Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Ah, acting, this time in warmer weathers.
Spring had just sprung, and Alia was fully ready to welcome the sunshine and flowers that came with it. Out with the snow, in with the... Rain.
In the first few days of spring, not only had it rained so much it seemed as if the skies had simply saved all the tears from the years before just to open the clouds and pour all of it down on the youngest days of spring, but both the upper and lower tiers of Riverfall, or at least what Alia knew of it, had been flooded.

Riverfall had turned into just that, a river. What was worse was that the path to the amphitheater Jorin had shown her so long ago had been covered in dark, sickly mud. It had been horrible marching through all of that just for the sake of a stage, and even then the semi-circle acting pedestal had been nearly overtaken by water. It was if the stage was an island, sitting in the center of a freshwater ocean.

Alia had bought high rain boots and a waterproof scroll case just for the sake of her acting, using the boots to, in theory, get to the outdoor stage without getting wet, plus the scroll case to carry her script. For once, she had left her inspiration notebook at home, not wanting to risk getting it wet. Had the book fallen in water, there would have been no replacement, and she would have never forgiven herself.

Wading through the water and hastily climbing onto the stage, Alia shook out the liquid that had sloshed into her boots. She hadn't bothered to wear socks that day, so her feet being wet wasn't the end of the world. However, she didn't like the fact that she had to constantly roll up the wide-flared Bryda she had worn in order to save the cloth from being soiled in the murky water. The rain had made the air extremely humid, and the cold winter days seemed years away from rainforest- like weather that Alia had experienced in the beginning of spring.
For the first time since she had left Wind Reach, the Inartan-turned-actor had worn her Vinati outside without a coat. Alia hadn't realized how much she missed the half-shirt, and it was a welcomed change to her bulky coat. Giving her boots one last shake, Alia slipped them back on and breathed in the refreshing smell of fresh rain, one of Alia's favourite scents.

Once everything was dry, or at least not waterlogged, Alia took the scroll case off her shoulder and opened it up, careful to step away from the stage - or more accurately, island - edge. She took out the first page of her freshly printed script, eagerly skimming over the lines. It seemed that she didn’t have many, with once again the majority of her lines being short, almost meaningless, sentences. It was if the stagemaster enjoyed placing her in a roll that was nearly important, but ended up dying halfway through the play. It was infuriating sometimes, though Alia suspected he didn’t do it on purpose. No one went to such lengths to be that annoying.

Laying down the scrollcase underneath her feet so it didn’t roll away, Alia shuffled through the papers and began at the beginning of the script, mumbling through the first lines but building up to a greater extent of emotion. It seemed her character, Islini, her name seemed to be (and a strange one at that), was a Reminancer, a fire one, to be specific. The woman had walked in on her husband, the main character in the play, with another woman. That was where the monologue started.

Alia chuckled softly, much of the scripts she had read seemed to have entirely or at least partially overdone personalities and reactions to what happened in the acts. A man dies? Murder. Someone disappears? Witches. Your husband cheats on you? Burn him on sight, of course. It was ridiculous.

Alia began her part at the line just after the beginning of the scene were Islini walked into the room, a few curses were exchanged, then the shouting began.
”Hear me, you snake! Have ye cheated thy wife before? Hear, Husband! I'll curse you, curse you with fire! May the eternal fire burn ye well!"

May the eternal fire burn ye well? Supposedly, this was dramatic. It sounded however, quite overdone. Then again, critiquing the play was not her job, even though Alia was expected to act in it.

According to the script, after she finished her lines, someone offstage would do something to make it look like Alia was actually reminancing fire. That "something", however, was unknown to the actress. Dropping out of the act just long enough to think over what her "Husband" would say during the silence, Alia pretended the man was next to her, reading his lines as well.
Curse me not, wife, for my heart beats only for you. Curse me not, wife, for I have eyes only for you. Curse me not, as you do not see what is really happening.

It seemed like the main character had less lines in this act than Alia. Wasn't the whole point of main characters that they talked a lot? Sure, Alia had the majority of the lines in this scene, but only that scene. In most of the other acts, Alia was simply thrown in the background. The main character, however, was supposed to speak the most, wasn't he?
Shaking her head, Alia continued her lines, "Do not bother me with excuses! You have eyes for others, and your heart is impure! Be gone, serpent!"

Swinging her arms out forcefully, as if casting a fireball, just as the script demanded, Alia concluded the scene. The story would go on to say that the husband would escape, but his lover and his wife both perished when the fire went astray and lit the house. This would be the first scene Alia had a lot of lines in, but it would also be the last one of hers in the play. Of course, she hadn't read all of her lines. Alia enjoyed reading the exciting parts first, to make sure she got a feel for her character. Anyways, trying to memorize only a few lines at a time was much more efficant than attempting to remember them all.

Slipping the script back into the scroll case it came in, Alia took a break to dip her waterproofed feet into the flood water, splashing several drops of the murky water up onto the stage. A rest was definitely in order. The skies were clouded and grey, threatening to pour down once again just to make the already saturated city wetter, though the air still remained warm. Alia wished it wouldn't pour down on her while she was out. She liked the rain, but not when it flooded absolutely everything.

[The Amphitheater] Riverfall Acting (Now With Water)

Postby Natsu Nendo on April 30th, 2014, 7:57 pm

Natsu Nendo disliked the rain. Well, perhaps that was too strong of a word. He did not dislike the rain, in fact he quite enjoyed it. The smell of the droplets hitting the soil, the sound of them splashing off various surfaces, it was all stunning and beautiful. What he truly disliked was puddles, or more accurately the lakes. Clay was not the best material for clambering through the mud and smaller puddles, and Natsu-Nendo was unsure if he could swim due to the fact he had never tried. In conditions such as these, the Pycon was very much at the mercy of the elements, and this particular day found him rather unhappily stranded on the Amphitheater stage, where he waited anxiously for someone to rescue him.

As he lay on the stage, many small fleeting thoughts drifted through Natsu's mind. He considered the beauty of the falling droplets, the serene quiet when the rain had stopped falling, the gray clouds and warm stagnant air seeming to drift lazily above the semicircular acting space. As it was he had only gotten here by accident, chased from a makeshift shelter nearby thanks to a small flood of water, and now all he wanted was a warm blanket and a fire to curl by. He hated when he felt this way, helpless and pitiful, waiting to be saved, yet he knew that as a Pycon he was either destined to be a pet, a companion, or squished underfoot. A shudder ran up his small spine at the last option and he prayed silently to Harameus that he would not have his life wasted in such a way.

As the day went on, he noticed a female human making her was to the stage, and in an effort not to frighten her, Natsu scurried into the shadows near the back of the performance area, attempting to blend himself with the stones. He watched with curious eyes as she emptied her boots, grateful that he had no such issues excluding his small bag. Crawling around as silently as he could, he observed the female practicing her lines, and he took in her physical appearance as well as her stage presence. She seemed at ease, as though even with a crowd watching she would not break a sweat or become nervous. Her movements in relation to what he assumed would be a spell he found quite humorous, knowing mages would never be caught dead waving their arms as such. He found himself quite intently interested in her acting, the way she held herself, the air of importance with which she regarded herself, or at least her character, yet she seemed able to slip in and out of the role with relative ease. As for her actual appearance, her stunning red hair was the first thing which grabbed his attention, and the brief glimpse of her eyes which he had gotten left him rather amazed at the brilliant colors

When her lines and acting were done, Natsu approached slowly, walking near the edge of the stage and coming up from her left side. He kept his movements slow and steady, his small paws making muffled scratching noises on the stage. He was weary of the drop to his side, and of the water which seemed to fill the seating area below. He let out a small cough to announce himself while he remained a few feet away, mumbling gently "
H-Hello there. My name is Natsu Nendo" He remained back slightly, watching for a reaction from the female. If it was kind and welcoming, he would venture closer to her slightly, giving a small bow as was his custom to those he met. If her reaction was negative... well there really wasn't far he could run.

I wish to see the world, yes that much is true. It is also true that one such as myself will have a much better view on the shoulder of a close friend

"H-Hello there."
Whipping her head towards the sound of a voice, Alia looked around, startled at the presence of another. She hadn't seen anyone onstage before she came to the amphitheater, and if someone had climbed onto the semicircle structure she would have heard the splashing of water. No, there couldn't be anyone on the stage... Could there?

A soft scratching sound at her feet alerted Alia to the fact that there wasn't someone behind her, no, there was someone below here. Or, from what it seemed, something.
Pushing the hair out of her face and looking down, Alia realized that the voice that had startled her so badly seemed to be coming from a... Squirrel?

But... Squirrels couldn't talk, could they? Maybe her mind was playing tricks on her...
"My name is Natsu Nendo."
No, that squirrel was most definitely talking.
This was something new to Alia, and she did not often take unexpected new things very well.
Especially if they were talking squirrels.

Letting out a muffled yelp, Alia took a slightly-too-big step backwards. Unfortunately, the stage was slightly-too-small. Her foot landed on nothing but air, and before she could process what was happening, Alia was falling backwards into the floodwater.
Ironically, the only waterproof item she had brought with her, the scroll case, was the only thing of hers that remained dry. It landed on the stage, narrowly missing the squirrel creature.

As soon as her mind processed that yes, she had fallen off the stage, and yes, she was absolutely soaking wet, Alia managed to sit herself up, still in a sort of shocked state. Not only from the freezing, muddy water, but from the squirrel creature that was now eye-hight with her sitting body. It seemed to not actually be a real animal, but a figurine made of clay.

But how could that be? Squirrels didn't talk, especially not squirrels made of clay.

[The Amphitheater] Riverfall Acting (Now With Water)

Postby Natsu Nendo on May 25th, 2014, 5:04 pm

Natsu's small wings flared open in surprise at the sudden loud yelp which the female emitted. As she tipped back off the stage, the Pycon just narrowly avoided being hit over the head with the scroll that the actress had been holding. He froze in surprise and shock, his small form shaking as he tried to figure out if the scroll had been an attack or an accident, and more importantly if the now-soaked female was alright.

After a few moments of staring face-to-face with her, the clay figurine opened his mouth and stammered out "
I-I-I am so terribly sorry, I f-forget sometimes that my a-appearance can be surprising" he gave another short bow of apology, stepping a little closer after doing so, though his small frame still shook visibly. Natsu felt terrible that he had been the cause of her fall and subsequent soaking of her clothes. It seemed that in his search for help he had done nothing but the opposite.

It was a drop of rain which broke the tension for the small creature, a single orb which landed on the tip of his nose, catching him so by surprise that he let out a yelp of his own, skittering back away from the edge and tripping over his tail. Natsu landed with an almost inaudible thump on the surface of the stage and began to giggle like a fool, his four small legs waving in the air.

[The Amphitheater] Riverfall Acting (Now With Water)

Postby Lyn'nice on May 27th, 2014, 1:12 pm

Lyn'nice had been passing through the area thoroughly enjoying the flooded parts of the city. She had missed the water and seeing a chance to enjoy the rain, she had. Leaving her shoes at home she went about some errands for the Sanctuary.

She had been happily humming and going about her business, stopping every so often for a rest. She placed a hand on her slowly expanding belly. She was just starting to show a bit, as the child inside wished to make itself known. "You are not going to make this pregnancy easy, are you?" She asked her belly.. Well, you were the one who volunteered a child, so it's not my fault. You knew what you were getting into. The imaginary voice Lyn made up in her head retorted. Yes, that's what her child would certainly sound like. She chuckled to herself and was about to continue her errands when a woman's voice stopped her.

I'll curse you, curse you with fire! May the eternal fire burn ye well!"

Then a scream of sorts and a splash.

Lyn'nice took off toward the noise in the Amphitheater only to find a red haired woman in the water. While Lyn'nice didn't know how deep the water was in some parts she walked on down toward the island that was a stage, she had gills after all. "And I thought I liked the water! Diving off the stage... Somehow even I don't think that's a good idea. Not that my advice mean much." The Konti smiled her bubbly smile and offered a had to the soaked woman.oochope you don't mind me jumping in! Natsu your PCs pic is so cute.

The day kept getting stranger, not only was a squirrel was talking to her, but it was laughing at her. Not to mention it was made of clay. Clay squirrels did not talk, nevermind laugh, yet here she was, being laughed at by a squirrel. On the bright side, at least it was only a squirrel, not an actual person...

"And I thought I liked the water! Diving off the stage... Somehow even I don't think that's a good idea. Not that my advice mean much."

Of course there was an actual person took standing behind her, probably amused at Alia's clumsiness. Standing up and brushing herself off, even though brushing oneself off doesn't do much for water, Alia turned to face whoever had walking in on her unfortunate encounter...
...with a squirrel.

"I- Uhm... Fell. I fell. Off the stage... I didn't dive." Embarressment flooded her cheeks as the woman continued to stare. "...I'm going to get back on the stage now. To dry off, I mean."

Clambering onto the stage, Alia shook her hands, attempting to get some of the murky water off of her. She only succeeded in spraying mud in a tiny rainstorm down onto the clay squirrel-like creature. Speaking of which, Alia bent down and peered at the statue. What was he? She? It? She might as well ask. There wasn't much she could still lose.

"...Excuse me for asking... Uh, Natsu, was it? But... If you don't mind me asking, what are you?"

Natsu ceasedhis giggles and flipped back over onto his paws, looked on in wonder as the second female approached the stage, his ears perking and twitching at her gentle voice, the teasing tone which filled her words stirring something within the creature. This voice... it reminded him of his family, the tone with which his mother would laugh at his natural mistakes. He zoned out slightly, his mind recreating better times, memories from a not-so-distant past.

The clay mouse was shocked abruptly out of his remembrance by a shower of freezing mud-water, and he let out a muffled yelp of surprise as he ducked his head and covered his eyes. Once the impromptu rain had ceased, he found himself in a surprisingly close proximity to the actress whom he had first come across. "
...Excuse me for asking... Uh, Natsu, was it? But... if you dont mind me asking, what are you?" Natsu's wings fluttered shyly as he turned to face both women the best he could "I am a Pycon, a creature of the clay. Natsu is indeed my name, and though I happen to love pranking I do apologize for the scare and splash I caused " he addressed the second part towards Adi, giving a small bow before grinning shyly

"A Pycon, clay creatures born out of magic..." Lyn'nice mused. "I saw a few when I went to the Labor Office. Don't you have a hard time getting around this big city, Nastu? I mean I've seen Pycons almost crushed buy doors." She had climbed on stage and knelt down closer to the clay creature's level.

She took in every little detail of the Pycon and giggled when he wiggled his tiny sculpted wings. She put her hands together and placed them in front of Natsu, offering him a higher vantage spot. "Won't all this water sweep you away?"

The Konti turned to the soaked woman, "Are you okay? You didn't cut yourself on anything when you fell in the water, did you? I'm a healer... My name's Lyn'nice. I guess I almost forgot to mention that." She smiled, "You must also be the one cursing people into eternal fires as well? Seeing as you're standing on stage... I assume you were running lines?" She attempted to pet Natsu. "Sounded pretty good to me, good volume."

Alia, now standing on the stage, offered her hand to the woman who had seemingly appeared out of nowhere, inviting the stranger to stand up on the stage with her. Even though she’d much rather be dry and quite a bit less muddy, she wasn’t going to let others come to the same state she was in. Her fall had kicked dirt up into the water, which was now floating around the woman’s ankles. The flooding hadn’t seemed to help anyone.

Especially, now that she thought about it, Natsu.

The creature he had defined himself as- Pycon, it was, seemed to be made entirely out of clay. Clay, Alia knew, did not mix well with water. But in that case, what was the rodent-like creature doing on the island that the Amphitheater stage had become?

Alia put aside her questions while Natsu apologized for scaring her, in which Alia replied with a short, mumbled ’No worries’ before turning her attention back to the new woman. She was speaking to the pycon, ignoring her all together until she offered her hand to Natsu and turned her attention to Alia, who still had her arm out, feeling like an idiot.

When the new woman expressed her concern, Alia shook her head. ”I didn’t land on anything sharp, I’m sure, and the waters’ really not that deep. It was the shock that got me more than anything else. It’s cold, the water is.”

As the woman, Lyn’nice, she was, introduced herself, Alia brushed some of the mud off her clothes. It was going to be impossible getting the stains out, but for the time being she tried not to worry about it, instead listening as Lyn’nice commented on her acting. Alia laughed a bit as she mentioned her lines about cursing people into eternal flames.

”Yeah, a lot of the plays we do are quite old, and therefore quite cheesy.” She trailed off for a bit, thinking. ”Thanks for the commentary, though, it’s much appreciated. I was practicing for an upcoming play, for the Amphitheater. That’s where I work, where I’m going to perform this ‘cursing’ thing.” She tried to shrug off the act as silly, which it definitely was, but Alia had to admit, she liked the idea of playing a reminancier.

She remembered back in the spring, with Palla, they had messed around with magic, and though it had seemed interesting, they had never followed up their one-time fling with the elements. She never learned much from the short time she had studied the topic.

Reining in her wandering mind, Alia continued speaking to her new audience. ”If you’d like, you could watch the rest of the act. It’s the last part my character appears in, so I promise it won’t be long.”

Natsu shook his head slightly, glancing up at Lyn'nice and mumbling up to her "
impossible... as far as I know there are no Pycons in Riverfall... not anymore. And yes, the water would probably wash me away, I haven't really tried it yet" he bowed his head slightly, twitching his tail to acknowledge Alia's acceptance of his apology. Without warning he found a soft hand brushing the top of his head. With a small murr he arched his back into the stroking touch. He had never been petted before but if it felt like this he could quickly get used to it.

He noted the curious and slightly confused look on Alia's face and connected a few dots in his mind "
I was caught by surprise in a small flood of water... this was the only place I could make it to" he gave a small chuckle, closing his eyes and letting out anpther soft murr. His ears twitched at the mention of acting, and he let a broad smile split his face. He had always fancied the idea of performing, but being so hard to see didn't much help his career chances.

Opening his eyes again he nodded up at Aria from beneath Ly'nice's hand, very much interested in seeing more of her acting, though he did feel another pang of guilt at the state of her clothing. It was strange, for however much Natsu detested being seen as helpless or a pet, the stroking made him feel safer, more... at home. He shook the thought from his head, not wanting to be taken by sorrow at the thoughts of his family. Instead he remained perched on the gentle hand which cupped him slightly, giving him a good view of the stage.

I wish to see the world, yes that much is true. It is also true that one such as myself will have a much better view on the shoulder of a close friend
