Midmorning, Sunette walked into Artfire Glassworks for another day of work. She was the second there that day behind Nimi, who was busy spinning glass on a rod in the furnace dedicated to blue glass. Sunette assumed she was working on a wine bottle. They always worked on wine bottles. She'd spent her first day on the job making glass birds, though. Azvan and Nimi had just wanted to see what she could do, so she made something easy for them. But since then, it was actual business. Sunette sighed, going to their order logs and running a finger down the page, attempting to find what to make first. She pushed out her lips and made a clicking noise as she read down the page, the handwriting all a bit sloppy for her taste.
Aaaand… Bottles. Sunette groaned, gathering all required materials to go about making more bottles. In the back of her mind as she made her way to the tool storage area, she thought about all of the other more interesting things she could be making, her own red glass pendant swinging around her neck as she grabbed all of her tools and lugged them over to the station, arms almost overflowing with the bundle.
From outside of the building, the Sweetday was in full swing. Children could be heard going up and down the street headed to and from the bazaar with with excitement. Sunette could smell the baked goods all morning, the entire town smelling of pastries and sugary sweets. Sunette had never gotten to try any of these herself, but she wanted to oh so badly. And, of course, the one day she would have the perfect opportunity, she was stuck inside the shop.
Sunette sighed, standing in the shop where she had a nice view of the street. She sighed deeply, realizing that she wouldn't really enjoy the festival, considering that she had no one to go with. She'd begun to accept the loneliness though.
Nimi spotted Sunette staring off, raising an eyebrow and calling out to her to bring her back to reality.
Sunette!
Sunette snapped out of her downward spiraling train of thought, her body jerking in surprise of Nimi's shout. The jacks (large tongs used for shaping) fell from the bundle of metal items in Sunette's arms, clanking loudly against the ground.
Don't get so distracted. We have work to do.
Sunette sighed, …Sorry. I'll get it in a minute.
Sunette waddled over to the station, quickly setting down everything before retrieving the jacks. She glanced up once more, a child eating a brown apple-shaped thing on a stick walking past.
Hey, Nimi? What do they over those apples in for this holiday?
Caramel. Now start working. If you get enough work done today, I might let you go see the festival. You seem to be distracted enough by it, maybe that will help you focus.
Sunette didn't know what caramel was, but it must have been sweet. She smiled softly, taking the tongs back to the station near the furnace. She placed it with all of the other equipment, replacing it in her hand with a hollow steel tube. She reached her free hand out to open the furnace, a wave of heat rushing against her face. She let out a deep breath, sitting the rod back down and tying up her hair before she began-- neck sweat wasn't something she enjoyed dealing with, but it was something she couldn't avoid when working about glass at over 2,000°F in temperature.
She scooped the rod back up, placing the tip of it into the furnace. She began to turn it constantly, slowly enough to grab up the molten glass in the furnace, but not too quickly as to prevent the molten glass from latching on. It slowly began to accumulate, much in a way she assumed the caramel was put onto the apple she'd just seen.
