General InformationRace: Svefra
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Birthday: 81, Spring, 497 AV.
Birthplace: Suvan Sea
Current Location: Zeltiva
Appearance: Slender and small for a Svefra at 5'6" and 110lbs, Rena has a swimmer's build encased in lean muscle and tanned skin which displays the health of her lifestyle on the sea. Her blonde hair is mostly kept short and loosely tied back, with two long braids hanging down the nape of her neck and decorated with seabird feathers. Her eyes resemble the tropical waters of the southern Suvan Sea where she was born, a bluish green that is often bright with inquisitiveness and interest.
Rena's Gnosis mark decorates her left shoulder, surrounding the stylised Orca tattooed on her shoulder blade in a whirlpool-like spiral.
She is most often seen wearing a soft vest and green striped pants with a half skirt of red wrapped around her waist, though in colder weather she swaps out the skirt for a coat of the same colour. She can be convinced to dress outside of her norm, usually when it suits her purposes to not be treated like a Svefra by the other races, mainly when she wants to learn something they'd not willingly teach one of her people.
Character ConceptRena is a driven young woman chasing a very specific goal. Haunted by the incomplete image of a ship of unimaginable proportions and capabilities the young Svefra is determined to make it into a reality, with every scrap of knowledge gained slowly filling in the mental image that has inspired her. Some amongst her Pod think her crazy, others that she has been inspired by Laviku or perhaps Akvin in her obsession to create the vessel that appears in her dreams.
This drive has led her to discard a portion of her instinctive desire for freedom in favour of pursuing the knowledge and skill that she needs to complete her goal, making it easier for her to fit in amongst the other races of Mizahar for longer periods of time. Of course, much like the ocean from which she was born Rena is subject to 'tides' wherein her control is loosed and she returns to the sea to live as Svefra should, unable to handle the self imposed restraints anymore.
Beyond her passion for ship building, Rena is a friendly and cheerful young woman, willing to help others out when she can, cheer them up when they're sad, and spend time just socialising with whomever catches her attention (assuming she's not currently caught up in her obsession). However should she return to focus on her work she tends to disregard anything else.
Character HistoryRena was born in the South Suvan Sea to the Tideskipper Pod, and like any young Svefra she was raised by all the adult members of her extended family, including the pod of Orcas that travelled alongside them. She grew up as any girl would amongst such a people, learning the tricks and skills of her people as she matured, having no particular direction or goal in life she was content to pick up the common skills needed amongst the nomads of the sea and generally enjoy her life amidst close family.
That changed at the age of ten.
It started simply, at night Rena would dream of the ocean (not an uncommon thing for one who has grown up in such an environment) but soon enough the dream began to focus on something that she could not fully perceive, could not see properly. All she knew was that it was a ship of some sort, unlike any she had seen before. The young girl pestered her kin, trying to figure out what kind of ship she had been dreaming of, only to be told that no such vessel existed. It was then she realised that she was meant not to find it, but create it.
And so Rena began to work with the shipwright of the pod, learning the basic techniques that her people used in ship construction and design. It seemed that with each piece of knowledge or new skill picked up she could see more and more of the ship in her dreams, the slow growth just enough to encourage her to continue despite the very slow progress she was making. Still there was something that told her she was not entirely on track, and it wasn't until she stumbled upon some books on Animation that she realised what she was missing.
Learning magic amidst her kin was difficult, and much slower progress than her endeavours as a Shipwright, but this skill too brought her closer towards understanding her dream. Step by step, piece by piece, she knew she was 'sailing in the right direction' so to speak. Now instead of being visited nightly by the ghostly image, Rena would dream of the ship perhaps three times per season, encouraging her with her progress.
For a while this seemed to be enough to keep her happy, her knowledge growing to satisfy the odd recurring dream, but eventually it began to return with increasing potency as her skills began to peak amidst the ships of her kin. Rena tried to fight the inevitable for as long as she could, partnering with a slightly older boy by the name of Darius to bear a child when she was old enough, but even her son could not distract her long enough from her long held goal.
Once her son had been weaned she passed him to his father, requested a ship of her own, and departed her pod for Zeltiva where she could continue to hone her skills and maybe one day view the ship that had haunted her for so long in all its glory. Now her family makes the trip up along the eastern coast once or twice a year so that they can connect with her often enough to alleviate their own concerns and give her the connection with kin that all Svefra need to thrive.
TavanKeran is a young Sea Otter around 1.5m long and weighing 25kg, he is a relatively lazy creature, satisfied with sleeping throughout the day and feasting on whatever food he can find or scam out of others. Rena's more sedentary lifestyle compared to other Svefra doesn't bother him one bit so long as he can lounge about, swim when he wants to, and feed on the tastiest clams and crabs. He is somewhat foul tempered to anyone other than Rena, and can be very nasty when upset, though he can be appeased with offerings of food
