This lazy agricultural settlement rests on the swampy shores of the Middle Suvan at the delta of The Kenash River. The River's slow moving bayou waters have bred a different sort of people - rugged, cultured, and somewhat violent. Sprawling plantations of tobacco and cotton grow on the outskirts of the swamp in the rich Cyphrus soils, while the city itself curls around the bayou and spawns decadence and sins of all sorts. Life is slower in Kenash, but the lack of pace is made up for in the excesses of food and flesh in a city where drinking, debauchery, gambling, slavery, and overbearing plantation families dominate the landscape.

Beds and Boxes

Resting beside Kenash's carriage services, a rather large warehouse rests. The foundation is good but old. Various flowers and plants line the front of the building, having once been groomed and looked after, this is not longer the case. Although the plants have not overgrown to clash with the elegance of the buildings architecture, one prominent flower seems to dominate the entrance, lavender. Although the architecture shows a Radacke's hard work, the building its is often passed by and overlooked, resting on the edge of one of Dry Island's bustling squares. Only when passing the front door, a Kenashians will see the small wooden sign that hangs over the entrance claiming to be 'Beds and Boxes' one of Kenash's only two furniture stores.

ImageThe main room is what is known as the showroom. Large windows line two of the four long walls, removing the need for candles during the day. The showroom gives of a comforting feel and a wonderful smell of fresh wood and cotton. Upon first entrance there will be a desk lined with papers and books meticulously organized and arranged to be neat. Usually the main slave Sander will be sitting here, ready to answer questions and guide the customers through the showrooms. Nondescript furniture and boxes are arranged to resemble different themes throughout the room. Sander and Matilla are constantly rearranging and cleaning as Jed adds furniture to the stock, so it is safe to assume that every ten-to-twenty days one will find a new pattern. Along the other two walls of the showrooms, one won't find windows but doors instead.

The first door one would see would be to their right labelled 'Storage'. Entrance is permitted upon request. As one enters the room their nose is assaulted with the scent of freshly stained or waxed furniture. Often there will be no candle lit, since the room is rarely used. The only light is provided by a single window at the very top of the room, which only let's sun in from the east. The customer would find that raw wood takes up most of the room. A small area is reserved for storing poor quality furniture and large pieces that need to be assembled on sight. A small corner is given to bookshelves containing years worth of records carefully organized and filed.

ImageAlong the back wall of the showroom three identical doors lay evenly spaced along the wall. Each door blends into the theme of the furniture surrounding it. Each has carefully carved letters claiming their purpose. The one farthest to the left is labeled 'Office'. It's identical brother in the center is labelled 'Spare Room', while the door furthest to the right is labeled 'Wood Shop'. This door is rarely closed and when the customer approaches it, they can smell the aroma of harsh stains and waxes along with the sweet scent of fresh wood. Although the door is open, the room does not welcome customers. Upon first glance one will see various axes and adzes along with other tools hung neatly along the wall. The floor will be lightly scattered with splinters and wood chips, although it is cleaned every othere night. Light is let in from the windows, the sun filtering through the dusty air that fills the interior. Four large tables line the edges of the room, each with its own purpose in the making of furniture. Although the room is so unorganized that it is nearly impossible to understand the madness that Jed works in. If one hasn't already been turned around, they might catch a glimpse of a project that Jed is working on. The sight is rather uncommon since Jed will never leave a project half done.

ImageThe second of the three identical doors that line the back wall is known as the spare room. This is where Jed's slaves find their living quarters. The small ten-by-ten room often smells of dust and lavender. Three low straw cots line the wall beneath a single window opposite to the door. Two chairs and a table rest in the corner to the right of the door with a few candles for lighting. All three of the beds have a small chest at the foot for whatever belongings Jed's slaves may have. Over the bed to the left, you find the source of the pleasant scent. Lavender blossoms, picked from the entrance of the building hang upside down. This bed is just slightly more comfortable than the other two, and more care had Ben put into the making of it. It is obvious that this bed belongs to Jed's favored slave, Matilla. Beside her bed, underneath the window is Sander's bed. There is nothing noticeable about this particular dwelling other than the ink stains that soak into the wood to one side of the bed. It is clear that many hours have been spent crouched under the moonlight pouring over texts and journals. The bed that is farthest to the right holds nothing personal. The bed looks new but not of good quality, this belongs to Timothy Mered. The window holds neither bars nor latches and the shutters may only be closed or opened from the outside.

The last door, on the back wall of the showroom is Jed's private office. The heavy oak door is always kept under lock and key. He keeps his office very secretive, only Jed's most trusted slave, Matilla has been allowed entrance.

Furniture
Jed only sells average quality furniture in his showrooms. He doesn't put poor quality furniture in the showrooms. If he messes up he will usually throw it out or scraps it. You would have to request to go to the backroom for poor quality furniture, and the selection is rather slim. As his skills increase, this option will disappear.

Services
There is an option for personalized furniture. If you cannot find what you need on the list or want something more, you go to Jed. He will work with you to build what you need and specialize it to your wishes. Walk-ins are easiest but should you need to schedule an appointment, there is a 5 gm placeholder. You give 5 gm when you schedule it and get 5 gm back when you show up on time.
Note: There is a 75% chance that your appointment will be irritating.

To schedule an appointment, you can simply PM me or post here.

Transportation
Customers are encouraged to bring their own forms of transportation, since Beds and Boxes does not currently have a solution to that problem. Most furniture made my Bed's and Boxes are not excessively large (excluding wardrobes, beds, tables and some chests/boxes). If it cannot be arrived are assembled on-sight. Although this does pose a problem, it is in the works.

Brief Bio & History: Sander is a quiet boy, although quite mischievous. Despite this, he is responsible. For not being born a slave, he has little issue with his position. Sander invests most of his interest in Jed's profession, despite it not being his purpose, trying to help out with the actual making of the furniture when he is allowed. His main job is to attend the sales and organize the shop to be more aesthetically pleasing, as Jed can't seem to be bothered do it himself. He goes through and cleans up after Jed, and is there to address any questions or requests of the customers. Most of the customers concerns will simply be directed to Jed, but he will try to answer nonetheless. Since Sander was born free, he doesn't possess the submissive nature of slaves, which can come as a shock to Dynasty members when he talks back or voices his opinions. But Sander doesn't speak up without a solid reason to do so, he may not be submissive, but he is respectful, which is the only thing that keeps him from getting into trouble. When he does his words are swift and witty, though not always knowledgeable. Its easy to say his tongue has surpassed his age, and Jed always reminds him of it with a quick hit or shove. If you ever witness and argument between the two, it would be quite comical. Considering Jed will just deliver a blunt smack if he finds Sander annoying, it is rare. Jed had gotten Sander when his business started, a few years ago. Though their history together isn't long, Sander was quick to learn the ins and outs of working for Jed and managing the parts of the shop that Jed neglects. (HD)
