It was becoming atrocious. Now not only did Evalin have to contend with the sweltering heat and the dampening humidity, NOW the rain falls were heavier and more sporadic than ever. They came at Makutsi's whim, falling in sheets around them, drenching the greenery and dampening the ground to mud such that the nuit had trouble standing let alone moving about. It was terribly inconvenient, and really the Goddess should no better than to inconvenience others.
"Be damned all of this!" Evalin cursed as she turned, res flowing to her fingers as she jumped backwards, her back hitting the mud as she flung out her hand, electricity sparking and the leaping with a resounding BOOM as it arched into the trees. Sliding in the mud several feet Evalin quickly flipped back over, not bothering to clean the sludge from her arms and shoulders and simply ran into the trees. She wore only her torn rags this day, for she would not risk ruining the robes or cloak in weather such as this.
Her hand grasped the rough bark of a tree, swinging her body behind it and pressing her back against the little bit of protection, eyes closing as she clasped her hands together, res already beginning to gather around her from deep within. She could feel him. There was little Tsenrika could do now to mask his presence, so complete was their bond. She could almost see his actions as if they were her own, and in fact she found that more and more they acted in much the same way. He was gathering his power, preparing to strike. He, like Evalin, could sense her presence, and soon he would...
Opening her eyes Evalin crossed her arms over her chest, palms flat so that her right palm pointed to her left and vice versa. The res she collected flowed out from her skin, forming two curving pillars about as thick as her waist, and with a hiss they were transformed into glittering barriers of ice that curved slightly in front of her and over her head, giving her protection on 3/4 sides. It was only just in time too, for as she completed the spell there was the sound of shattering projectiles all around her as icy shards were thrown against the barrier and crumbled to glittering powder on the ground.
"Hide you not from this conflict, for the enemy shall never give you chance to flee."
Uncrossing her arms Evalin pressed her hands against the icy creations, pulling more res to fill the minuscule cracks she had intentionally added on the inner border. She lit small sparks of flame within, pressing res and filling the inner surface with air that pressed the hot sparks forward. The inner surface of the ice began to glow a slight red color as the cracks quickly widened from the combination of heat and pressure.
"Know you the difference between fleeing and tactical retreat?" Evalin called out. Just as she did the ice she herself had created shattered into chunks of various sizes and edges. The res she used to shatter the ice she now used to control it, adding more to the mix as she spun around the tree, floating chunks and shards of ice around her as she spotted Tsenrika on the other side of the small clearing, "If not, then learn you well!"
Thrusting her hands forward Evailn shot the icy chunks forward, gathering her remaining res around her as the projectiles sailed on under their own volition. She could already feel Tsenrika preparing a counter. But then of course he was. He was Tsenrika, the heart of her heart, her other half. He knew everything that she did, so surely already he had prepared--
A whoosing should and a sudden blast of heated air caught Evailn's attention as she blocked her eyes from the sudden light. Blinking away the surprise Evailn lowered her arm, starting at Tsenrika, cloaked in replicate form, standing in a circle of steam that hissed in the air. He had used a concussive blast of air and burning heat to shatter and repel the ice, and the heat in the cool rain had caused steam to begin to rise around him. With a curse Evalin began collecting her res faster. This battle would be quite the challenge...
