Don't let his nickname mislead you: Mathieu, as know as "The Reaper", isn't some kind of crazed killer or blood-thirsty mercenary. As a matter of fact, he likes to depict himself as a Flame Weaver - whether it is dancing with flaming weapons or breathing fire, his trade is entertainment first of all. His grim nickname comes from his skills with his twin-scythe which he is most proficient with during his shows, although he can do quite well with his many other tools. He is a traveling artist and lives off the profit he makes with his shows, although most of his income is spent for food, shelter and material needed for his next performance (such as a large quantity of alcohol).
Note that while his entertainment tools are quite unfit for any kind of sparing - the material gets too weak after a while due to the coating - he does own an entirely functional weapon for each of them that he mainly use for training (training with fire is way too expansive for him to afford doing so, and using his show weapons too much might damage them).
(wip) Mathieu travels the world on a cart pulled by his trusty horse, Dusk. While Dusk is neither fast nor young, he is strong enough for this task and Mathieu never even thought about buying another horse, even when offered by a particularly pleased lord. The cart is quite large and is stuffed with Mathieu's belongings, from his tools of trade to chunks of wood or strands of straw - yet there is still room for passengers if needed. Only on rare occasions will he leave his cart unattended, for most of the time he sleeps next to it - not to mention Dusk is quite whiny when not handled by Mathieu.
Due to his appearance and pseudonym, Mathieu is often feared at first. However, he isn't a bad person - while he doesn't speak much and isn't very social, he's neither cold nor mean. His clothings and style is only here for the show, for he knows people are more likely to remember him if he strikes them with something unusual. Furthermore, it also protects him from bandits and highwaymen from time to time, since attacking a grim looking black robe wearing individual rarely seems like a good choice (especially with a twin scythe on his back). He enjoys entertaining all type of people, be them poor commoners or rich merchants, and is payed by his audience in quantities they can afford.
Although he is perfectly fit for combat, he is rather pacifist and prefer to solve his problems in a diplomatic way. And contrary to most artists, he is very humble and do not like to tarry too long on stage after his show is finished. That doesn't mean he has low esteem in his skills or in his art though, he is proud of what he does. He just doesn't like trouble, and Mathieu knows well how being cocky is just asking to get knees-deep into it.
