Hot was the only word to describe that day.
Even for Alia, who had lived on a volcano for nineteen years of her life, could barely take the heat. It seemed as if the gods themselves had decided that, after the snow-covered winter, Riverfall deserved another beating from the elements. This time not from the clouds, but from the sun.

Even with the scorching temperatures, Alia had continued her newfound tradition of walking to the beach on her days off. Fortunately, from the heat, today was one of those days. Even the stagemaster couldn’t deny that it was far too hot to work, especially outside in the sun. Today had been the one day that Alia had been grateful for the man’s inability to work in extreme temperatures. She had an entire day to explore Riverfall, though, she didn’t get far.

Originally she had planned to go to the Sapphire Star, another business Alia had written into her To-Do list of places to explore, but the mixed blood had barely made it out the doorway of her home before realizing that it was much too hot for her plans. Instead, she changed her course for the beach, planning to wade in the water and cool down for the day. She had packed scarcely for the occasion, not even bringing her notebook, knowing that you could never predict the ocean and when it would steal away what may be left on the beach.

Or, Alia realized as she approached the beach, steal itself away.
The beach looked more like a desert than an ocean, with more sand than water covering the place. She had been visiting the beach for several days before, and, though she had noticed the lower tides, the water had never receded this far back. It was as if the very ocean itself was afraid of something, or someone. Curiosity peaked at the woman, so, after quickly adjusting the string that held back her hair, she walked along the beach to where it seemed the water was lowest.

As she strolled, Alia took inventory of what she had brought with her, making sure she was ready for this miniature adventure that she had chosen to join. The Mystery of the Lost Tide. Laughing briefly before returning to her list of possessions, Alia adjusted her bag on her shoulders. She had packed lightly, though her full waterskin weighed down the bag quite a bit.

Looking around, Alia found that the company on the beach was scarce, it seemed that only a special few had decided to brave the heat and explore the beach, much like Alia. The heat had to have been unbearable for the majority of Riverfall, especially those not used to the extreme heat. No wonder she had barely seen anyone all day, they were all hiding from the heat, like the ocean that had shriveled away to nothing. It was quite disappointing, really, going to the beach, expecting a cool ocean breeze and lapping waves only to be met with an infinite amount of sand.

Slipping off her sandals, Alia dipped her foot into the sand, expecting to be met by cold earth and soft sand, but instead found just the opposite. Though she probably should have expected it, the sand was burning hot. Once her foot touched the sand, Alia withdrew her leg hurriedly, as if she had touched a hot stove. In reality, that had been what it had felt like. Sighing, she slipped her shoes back on and continued her way down the beach, hoping to find a cooler spot to relax in. She settled in for a long walk, the tide had drawn back quite far away, leaving nothing but sand where the water had been just days ago.

Adjusting her sunhat and staring down at the sand, Alia found that there were many, many treasures to be found lying in the uncovered earth. It seemed that, with the drawn back waves, the ocean had abandoned tiny treasures to be found. Small, shiny stones, beautiful shells, old pieces of wood and jewelry, all sorts of things adorned the seaside. The small things fascinated Alia, where had they come from? Had they been washed up with the waves, or had they been there all along, just now exposed?

Crouching down to inspect a few glass beads that had survived the harsh tides of the ocean, Alia brushed her hand over the sand, hoping to scoop up the treasures. Instead, she only succeeded in uncovered a different kind of stone. Many kinds of stones, actually. Cobbles ranging from pebbles to large rocks lay under a thin sheet of sand, hiding from the world. The strange rocks didn’t stop there, though. As Alia looked around, she realized that there were many of the cobblestones lying around, as if arranged in a particular way.

Looking up, the red-haired girl saw that the stones led on in one particular direction, towards a part of the beach she hadn’t explored yet. Actually, as she thought about it, it looked as if she’d never explored it at all. There was sealife evident everywhere, from water plants lying baked in the sun, to small fish skeletons, burned white from Syna’s light. Looking even farther into the distance, it seemed that the sealife present on the beach intensified around one spot, where an old building, some sort of chapel with a rounded roof, stood.

It was strange, the building was so low down and out of the way, where had it been before the waves had withdrawn? Alia abandoned her inspection of the cobblestone road in favour of an inspection of the building. It seemed she hadn’t been the first to find it, as there were footprints all over the otherwise untouched sand, but it was relatively late in the day. Of course she wasn’t the first to find it.

As she began walking towards the building, Alia wondered where it had come from. After all her visits to the beach, she had never seen a building that far out to sea, or even near that part of the beach. The new, lower tides must have uncovered them when it stole the water away. Curiosity overtaking her worry at the possibility of the tide coming back, Alia adjusted her sunhat and began strolling down to the newest addition to the Riverfall beach.

Secrets in the Sand (Adney)

Adney woke up and began to stretch. He got out of his casinor and began to walk leaving his casinor. He noticed that there were not many people out today. "It is mighty quiet over here in the port." Then he noticed it was really hot today. "I can see why now man it is hot here." Adney then gave a smile. "Well then I am going to the beach." Adney began leaving the port and walked towards the beach. When he got there he noticed that there was hardly anybody over here maybe a couple of people but not a lot of people. "Where is everybody you would think in the heat like this there would a good amount of people here at the beach." Adney just ignored it and ran towards the water. He jumped in and began to swim around.

While Adney was swimming, he noticed a female on the sand walking through the beach. Adney decided to go and introduce himself and maybe make a new friend while he was at it. He swam back to shore and began to walk towards her. He then noticed that she was looking at the sand and Adney looked to see what she was looking at and Adney was shock at what it was, different types of valuables were laying on the sand from shiny stones to different pieces of old jewelry. The Shiny stones caught Adney's eyes and began to pick them up and as he did so he put them in his pocket of his pants. What he noticed about the stones that each one was different and that made Adney happy.

Adney then noticed that the female was still walking and he began to follow behind her but as he did so he tried to grab a stone he liked and put it in his pocket. Adney had never been to this part of the beach but was really excited that he was pretty much going on an adventure. As he was walking, he noticed a building up ahead and Adney tilted his head in curiosity. 'Why would a building be out here on the beach." Before he missed an opportunity he walked over to talk to the young lady. He walked behind her and tapped her shoulder hoping that she would turn around. "Hello Miss my name is Adney Tempest. I couldn't help but noticed that you were walking on the beach alone and decided to come and see if you would like some company."

Secrets in the Sand (Adney)

"Hello, miss!”
Alia practically tossed off her sunhat turning around. It seemed as if a man about her age had appeared out of thin air behind her. She hadn’t been expecting company, especially not on that day, at that time. The beach was empty due to the heat, why was he there?

That was when Alia noticed he was soaking wet. He had either been swimming very recently, or had dumped a waterskin all over himself. And, though the former was more reasonable, it didn’t seem likely. The majority of beachgoers, or those who would even consider braving the heat, didn’t dare go in the water, be it from fear of the always changing tides or from the fact that the shoreline was forever away from the higher beach. The man must be a fast runner.

As the man- Adney- introduced himself, Alia looked him over. One thing that caught her eye was his pockets. They were practically overflowing with things, many sorts of things. She could see the tops of shells, beads, even rusted Mizas that probably weren’t worth anything anymore. It seemed the man had found an interest in the treasure trove that was the beach. Not surprising, considering the things that had washed up.

Once the man finished talking, Alia brought her eyes back up to Adney’s, wondering why he had just walked right up to her. If she was in his boots, she probably wouldn’t have walked up to a complete stranger, especially when there was no one around. This was Mizahar, after all, you never knew who would be your friend and who would get you killed.

Despite her thoughts, Alia put her hand out for Adney to shake, smiling anyways. He seemed nice enough, even if Alia wasn’t lonely.
”Nice to meet you, I guess…”
She didn’t want to offend him, but she had enjoyed her solemn stroll.
Then again, some company couldn’t hurt.

”My names’ Alia. And… Yes, sure. I’d like some company.
Her eyes drifted down to his pockets again as a stray rusty bracelet nearly fell out as the man shifted positions. She laughed at that, albeit softly. It looked as if, with the amount of things he had collected, there was no way he could contain them all. Something had to escape.

”It seems that you’re quite the collector, Adney…” motioning down to his overflowing pockets, Alia continued, ”I haven’t picked much up from the beach, despite the opportunity.” It was true, she had been far too interested in the newly uncovered ruins to pay much attention to the other oddities found on the beach. They would still be here later, while the ruins might not.

Turning her head back towards the mysterious building, Alia wondered if Adney would decide to tag along. It seemed obvious, but she wasn’t sure if he would be interested. Not everyone enjoyed adventures, although many loved them.

”I’m going to investigate some things the tides left when they pulled out. Would you like to tag along?”

”Nice to meet you, I guess…” Adney smiled and put out his hand to meet Alia's hand for a shake. "It is nice to meet you as well." Adney put hands behind his back. ”My names’ Alia. And… Yes, sure. I’d like some company." Adney was really happy she said yes and gave a huge smile. "Cool." Adney then noticed that Alia was looking at his pockets and he gave an embarrassing smile. She laughed at something Adney didn't know what, he looked down and noticed that a bracelet fell down. Adney picked it up and wore it on his wrist so it wouldn't fall down again. "Well that was embarrassing." Adney made sure that his items didn't fall off his pockets. "Ok good nothing else is falling." Adney looked up at Alia and laughed.”It seems that you’re quite the collector, Adney…I haven’t picked much up from the beach, despite the opportunity.”

Adney gave out a chuckle. "Yeah well I wanted to grab some of these items and maybe give them to some of my friends and keep some for myself but you should get some of these treasure I mean this stuff seems priceless and if not they would at least be good to collect." Adney smiled and stayed quiet looking at the building. Adney was really curious wanted to take a look inside but he wouldn't hang around if Alia didn't want him. Adney saw Alia turn around and look at him.”I’m going to investigate some things the tides left when they pulled out. Would you like to tag along?” Adney gave a huge smile. "Um... sure I would like to tag along. I do enjoy a good adventure." Adney walked ahead of Alia and began to slowly walk towards the building. Adney turned back to Alia with a smile. "Are we going to explore the building or not?"

Secrets in the Sand (Adney)

Postby Alia Beaudouin on June 27th, 2014, 12:04 am

It was time to get this adventure underway.
Alia had a new companion, and now she felt even more inclined to investigate the ruins that stood atop the beach, covered in what seemed like century old sealife. The building was absolutely caked in it. That was probably how it went unnoticed for so long, it must have looked just like a reef. No one would question a reef in an ocean, so no one would question the building. It was simple as that.

As Adney ran on ahead, Alia soon followed, staring down at the sand. Not because she didn’t want to look around, but because of what was in the sand. The amount of hidden treasures unearthed by the low tides seemed to increase here, as if the ruins were their origin. In all reality, they probably were. So many treasures, so little time. The high tides would probably return the next day, washing away the tiny jewels forever.

After a few ticks, Alia caught up to Adney, deciding to make conversation as they walked.
”So… What do you think is in… There? If there’s anything at all..?”
It seemed quite probable that their adventure had been for nothing, and that the ruins had already been cleared out, albeit by sentient or natural causes. It wasn’t as if they could do much with it, anyways. A ruin was a ruin, there’s no way to make it spill it’s secrets.

Then again, it could bring some good fun.

As the pair approached the structure, Alia could see a courtyard of sorts, not different from those in Riverfall. It was strange, seeing something so similar in an unfamiliar place. As if her memories of a building had been copied and placed into a location where she wouldn’t understand them. In which case, she definitely didn’t understand. The closer she got, the stronger her senses rejected the place. The scents of salt and sea were almost unbearable, despite how much she usually liked them. Sometimes, too much of a good thing was very, very bad.

After they had gotten inside, Alia was speechless at what she saw. The stoned road still continued, but it didn’t seem to be made of cobblestone anymore. Now, it was built out of some sort of rock, the kind that almost mirrored your reflection, it was that clear. As Alia stepped onto it, she gasped at the result. The rocks her foot had touched were glowing.

The rocks were glowing!

Anywhere she stepped, the stones glowed. It was absolutely magical, and Alia had seen nothing like it before. Leaning down to get a closer look at the mirror-like stones, she found that simply pushing down on the rocks caused them to shimmer. Any weight at all, pressed upon the road made it glow like candlelight. It was amazing.

Alia tried to pick up one of the stones, only to find it firmly attached to the road it was part of. A shame, a glowing necklace really would have been cool. Then again, she could probably find hundreds of other treasures, scattered around the ruin. In fact, Alia had already followed Adney’s lead, picking up a rusted locket, with only one word showing. It seemed to be a name, though Alia couldn’t read all of it. The only letter visable was an A in the middle.

It was probably a possession of some long-dead little girl, but Alia found it special, as if the A meant Alia, not whatever name it had originally been carved as. Sure, it wasn’t worth much, if it was worth anything at all, but it seemed important. It probably had been important, to whoever had originally owned it. The locket wouldn’t open, as if it was hiding it secrets from prying eyes, only allowing a single clue to escape. That letter A.
Then again, it was only a necklace.

Luckily, the rusted clasp still worked, so Alia had clipped the chain around her neck, proud of the new possession. Yes, she couldn’t get half of it to work, and yes, she still didn’t know what was on the inside, but the locket was still quite pretty, and Alia was quite fond of it.

As she had explored the ruins, collecting tiny treasures along the way, she had found that the ruined courtyard was much more… Magical than it first appeared. Unlike the entirety of the rest of the ruins, there were some stones that were completely devoid of sealife. When Alia approached them, she nearly jumped back into Adney. The orbs were glowing.
Was there anything normal in this place?

It seemed unlikely; The entire place seemed to be a maze past two sets of doors. Not normal-looking doors, either, no. These doors seemed to be a choice, of sorts. Little could be seen past the two, but a lot could be told from them. They both seemed to lead to the same place, though nothing in this place was really as it seemed.

Choosing to not yet investigate the doors, Alia turned to Adney, still in awe of the place they had found.
”So… This place is…” Alia couldn’t quite find the words to describe it. Magical? Ominous? ”...Strange.”

Secrets in the Sand (Adney)

Adney kept walking to the building and turned to see Alia had caught up to him. Adney smiled and kept walking. ”So… What do you think is in… There? If there’s anything at all..?” Adney shook his head but was thinking of her question. "I am not sure but that is what excites me. The mystery that is in the building." As they got to the building. Adney saw that there were courtyards which gave him shivers all over his body. Adney walked inside and noticed the road they were walking on ended up changing from cobblestone to a rock that was as clear as a mirror. Adney watched as Alia touched the rock and it began to glow. Adney was shocked and began to grab the rock but realized that it was stuck and he couldn't pull it out of the ground. Adney noticed there were more treasures and began to pick out the treasures and put it into his already filled pocket. As

Adney picked up the treasures, he noticed there was a green gem on the ground and picked it up, as he picked it up. He saw that it was glowing a little bit and was in awe. He smiled at this gem and put it in his back pocket. He then went back to finding more treasure and was smiling with joy. As Adney looked around, he noticed that there were orbs and they were glowing. He laughed when he saw that Alia was startled by the glowing orbs and jumped back to Adney. Adney noticed that there were two doors which lead to a maze. This made him really curious. He looked at Alia as she turned around to look at him.”So… This place is…...Strange.” Adney nodded in agreement. "Yeah it is but I want to go see what is past those doors." Adney smiled. "You want to take a look?"
