Calters Basics Nickname: Cal Race: Akvatari Gender: Male Age: 20 Height: 6' Weight: 135 lbs. Birthday: 68th of Winter, 494 AV Birthplace: Riverfall Appearance: Calters has wispy grey/blonde hair and sky-blue eyes. His skin is naturally pale but becomes quite tan in the Summer because of his attire. Calters prefers to wear a large leather strap around his torso. Often he will wear colorful cloth articles around his neck and shoulders as decoration to help him fit in with the bright Riverfall atmosphere but prefers to go shirtless when acceptable. His most distinguishing features, of course, are his racial traits. His seal legs are fuzzy and of the same ash color as his hair. His wings resemble butterfly wings and are now a dull red/brown. They used to be a vibrant scarlet, for which he was named, but they have lost their color over time. The wings are large and take up much of his back, easily stretching from his ears to his wrists. As of Fall 514 AV, Calters has let his hair grow. It has become longer and though it is not drastic, the change is noticeable. His typically short hair now reaches well past his ears and he shows no signs of cutting it. Character Concept Calters would be more than happy to keep to himself for the rest of his life. Sadly, this is not possible and the Akvatari is constantly throw out into the public eye. It is common for him to hear questions or remarks about his wings and tail no matter where he goes. He has become self-conscious and guarded over time and has to prepare himself to talk about it each time he leaves his house. The only time he really enjoys interacting is during his performances. He has been a dedicated bard for many years and loves his work. He plays mainly the ocarina but also likes singing and carries a set of clappers at all times. Despite his joy around music, Cal can appear down or distressed much of the time. He describes himself as a realist and insists that he is only ever telling the truth. Even though he hides from people, it is possible for Cal to get lonely from his own isolation. He is an introvert, yet craves attention. This can make him frustrated and confused. Often, negative thoughts plague his mind when he is powerless to stop them. He mentions these thoughts to no one and is actively trying to find methods of drowning them out. During these negative times he is prone to drawing serious and sometimes chilling artwork. He hates these depressed works and gets rid of them very quickly. Although Cal himself has little belief compared to some, he prays habitually to Rhaus as his father did. Calters has never left Riverfall, but is determined to get out of his birthplace and move out into the world as a traveling bard. As it is, he is afraid to travel because of his awkward and clumsy nature. He is a natural flyer and swimmer, but is lucky to be able to stand upright on land. He spends most of his time sitting and stands as little as possible. Somehow, he still manages to fall over, crash into things, and just generally mess stuff up. Some find his clumsiness adorable and endearing while others (like himself) find it childish and annoying. Fall 514 : Because of the plague, Calters' personality will be changed to the polar opposite of his previous one. This means that he will become extroverted, inexplicably happy, graceful, and proud. The negative aspects of this change include a loss in his love of music and a tenancy to act before thinking. Where he may have lashed out with a smart remark or simply kept quiet previously, he could lash out with violence or become manipulative and cruel. Character History Pre-creation: Calters' past is a mysterious one. He does not know who his mother was or where she is now. His only clues are the descriptions his father Jouyos had given him. When Cal was 14, his father left him so that Cal could carve out a better life by himself. Before he left, Jouyos passed on a clay ocarina with the letter "J" carved into it to Calters. Calters plays that same ocarina to this day and makes his living doing so. Calters' Ocarina : Calters has stayed in his hometown but has never seen his father pass through again. He is unsure of where he went or what he did. Cal does not even know if Jouyos is still alive. In his father's absence, Calters was able to pick up languages from the natives and learn what he could from the thriving artist community. Most of what he knows, (which admittedly, isn't much) he owes to the streets of Riverfall. Post-creation: In the Summer of 514 AV, Calters gained a job at Alements in Riverfall. Becoming a proper bard is a dream for Cal, and he enjoys the work greatly. He plans to work there as long as he can. Before he settled down to work, Cal took a vacation to Kenash, where he bought a new ocarina and met a doctor named Verena. He also met many others in Riverfall, friendly or otherwise. Those he met included a pycon named Natsu, a charming Ethaefal named Caelum (who is also his boss), and a fascinating Inarta named Briza, among others. Calters has developed a bit of a crush on Briza and has even gone so far as to kiss her. Another one he met in the Summer was Gwinquietruos. This was a revelation for Calters because this was the first Akvatari he met who was not related to him. It was also the first female Akvatari he ever saw and remembered. She promised to travel with him in the future, but no plans have been made yet. 100 Q&As General Information : What is your Name? Calters Do you go by a nickname or pet name? Cal. That's what I use most of the time but I'm not opposed to personal nicknames. How old are you? 20 What is your height? Uh, with wings and tail or...let's go with around 6 feet. What is your weight? Maybe 130 pounds? Aesthetics : Describe yourself as you see yourself. Hai, I didn't know there was gonna be a test. So I'm light-haired, pale skinned, and usually bruised up because life hates me. My wings are too big and my tail's too small. It's all very awkward for everyone, I think. Describe yourself as others typically see you. I don't usually go out where others can see me. Ha! But, uh, I guess the one I hear the most is about the Akvatari thing. Y'know, "Wings? Oh, so beautiful! Do they break a lot? A tail? Is that comfortable?" What the petch kind of question is that? Of course not! What is your favorite body feature? My wings. And maybe my hands. They're both relatively functional. How physically fit are you? Fit enough to carry my own weight. I'm not visibly muscular, but I can hold my own. How do you typically dress and what is your style? I call my style "Blind man in Sunberth". Bascially, it looks like I've been robbed and have no way of knowing what I'm wearing. Heh. I wear a single leather strap across my torso. Occasionally I'll throw in a neck decoration, but only when I'm feeling really crazy. Family : Who are your parents and what are they like? Jouyos is my dad- that's joyous all jazzed up- and I have no idea who my mother was. She just kinda...up and left. But Dad's all good. He raised me just fine. Taught me the ocarina, so he can't be that awful. Do you have any brothers or sisters? Not that I know of. But with what I know of my mother's history, it's likely. What is your extended family like? Hai if I know! Dad wasn't too eager to bring the family into my life and I didn't care enough to fight for it. Do you consider close friends as important or more/less important than family? More, without a doubt. Now, I don't have many friends, but of what I've seen, they seem pretty special to me. I'd like to have a friend that's more important than my mother was, at least. Do you treat animals like family? Ah, I don't have any animals. Never have. It would only be right to respect 'em though. I mean, they're living too. Location : Where were you born? Riverfall. Where do you live now? Riverfall, sadly. If you could live anywhere in Mizahar where would that be? I would like to go to one of the Charodae cities. But that might be better as just a visit... Do you have a favorite place to vacation or spend leisure time? Does the bar count? I think it does. If you get the right kind of ale you can go a lot of places in one night! Haha! Where do you fear to be? Stuck. Anywhere. In a cave, in a cage, in a collar, or even in somewhere as big as Riverfall. I hate being tied down. Traits : Do you have any physical weaknesses (disease, scars, and missing limbs?) Well, there's the obvious lack of legs. I would consider that a weakness if ever there was one. Are you right handed or left handed? Left. What languages do you speak? What do you sound like? Do you have an accent? I speak Common on a daily basis. I know Tukant although my vocabulary is lacking, and I can understand most Konti despite the fact that my speaking is atrocious. My voice is fairly low- which I like. It's intimidating. I don't think I have an accent, but since I can never manage to leave Riverfall I s'pose I don't really know. Do you have any odd mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics? Well, there's the fact that I swear all the time. And I tend to keep my lips busy. That means coughing when I'm nervous or embarrassed, biting my lips when I'm feeling down or stressed, or whistling if I feel happy. Do you have (or want to get) any tattoos or piercing? Why do you have them (or will get them) ? I would absolutely love a tattoo. I mean, wearing art? Who woulda thought! I would like a tattoo for each of my Gods, or at least a harp for Rhaus. Bards aren't quite rich enough to just go out and get all fancied up whenever though. Maybe during that Spring Ink Festival or whatever. Occupations : What is your occupation? I earn money as a bard. Not sure you could call it an occupation. Do you like/dislike your work? Why? I like my work alright. It just gets...depressing sometimes. I wish I could be out on the road instead of trapped in Riverfall. If you could be anything you wanted to, what would you be? A traveling bard. And I would play a mandolin instead of the ocarina. What occupation do you admire the most? Why? Dancers, by far. I've always loved music, but I just can't seem to manage the grace that they can. It's like they make silent music. What occupation do you least like? Why? You know what? I'm not a big fan of fortune-tellers. It's strange, since it's a performing art, but it just seems like something isn't right about telling others their future. I feel like that's the Gods' work, not ours. Childhood : What sort of child were you? What sort of child? How many kinds are there? I was a young Akvatari. I played music and fell down a lot. Dad loved me and nothing else mattered. What is your favorite memory from childhood? I don't have many memories. I mean...maybe when Dad handed down the ocarina to me because that's when I felt the closest to him but that was also the day he left. What is your worst memory from childhood? Same as my favorite. Bittersweet and all. What sort of relationship did you have with your parents? It was always "Good ole Dad" and "Petching shyke of a mother". What more can I say? Who was your most influential rolemodel? I had a lot of role models growing up. There was the beautiful, peaceful Konti women who taught me to be a little more kind. And the Strong Akalak men taught me to protect what I love. Dad taught me to enjoy what I have and the bartenders taught me to get what I enjoy. It's true. Takes a village to raise a child. Ahem. That got a little sappy.... Education : What sort of education do you have? Not much of one. All I know is how to play the ocarina, how to sing, and how to read and write. Only know what I need to know, sadly. Do you like/dislike learning? I don't really like learning, but I like knowing things and it's hard to have one without the other, no? Where or how did you learn most of your skills/abilities? Honestly, on the streets. I learned more practical things in taverns and on street corners. I learned everything that Dad wasn't willing to share with me. How do you learn best? By screwing it up the first time around! That would be funnier if it weren't true. What are your educational goals for the future? I don't think I really have any. I want to learn, sure, but nothing specific. Relationships : Do you form close bonds with people? Why? Why not? I don't know if you've picked up on this or not, but I don't like people. That makes it kinda hard to develop "close bonds". Do you trust people easily? If not, why not? I tend to trust people pretty easily. It's a bad habit, but I always assume that, because I'm 100% honest about my feelings, others must be too. Do you consider yourself straight, gay, bi, or something else? Hard to say. I'm not a big fan of people in general so I never really considered it. Neither a man nor a woman is entirely out of the picture so I guess that's bi. Have you ever been kissed? If so, describe the first time. Yeah, there was a sweet Svefra girl visiting Riverfall for a season back in, oh, was it 510 now? I don't remember. Anyway, she was almost taller than me and real muscular. Not really my type but she was pretty good when it came down to it, if you know what I mean. Have you ever had sex? If so, describe the first time. It wasn't really dreamy or anything. I took the Svefra chick (Salla? Nalla? Something like that) back behind one of the old bars. She was pissed at me for being a depressed, hormonal teenager so I figured there was only one thing to change her mind. She was still mad, but hey, it got me laid. She left after that but I didn't mind so much. Kind of a little shyke anyway. Drugs and Alcohol : Have you ever been drunk? If so, describe your first time. Have I? Ha! Have I ever breathed? First time wasn't so bad. Dad was around and he was drinking heavily on one of his bad days. He let me try some and I drank the whole bottle. Purely on accident, of course. Do you like to drink on a regular basis? Whenever I have a free hand, I make sure it has a pint in it. What sort of alcohol do you prefer? The kind that gets you drunk. Heh. Anything strong really. Have you ever tried drugs (mood altering substances)? If so, which kinds and what did you think of them? I haven't really gotten ahold of any good drugs. I'd like to try and find something to make me feel a little...warmer but so far, nothin'. What do you think of drugs and alcohol? Be specific. I think they're valuable resources and should be used to their full extent. I don't understand why people don't like them. I mean, yeah, addictions happen, but only because it's working! When you feel better, you wanna stay that way! Likes and Dislikes : What are your hobbies? Playing music, writing music, singing to music, listening to music...should I list a few more? Do you like to read? Not just for fun. Maybe if I'm learning something useful but that's hard to find in books. What annoys you more than anything else? Loud people! I don't understand why people feel the need to be so obnoxious all the time. What do you find the most relaxing activity to do? The most relaxing thing I can do is sit in a warm bath and polish my ocarina. I don't get to do it often, so it's kind of a treat. What kinds of things embarrass you? Why? it embarrasses me when i'm made to look stupid or end up being clumsy. Unfortunately, that happens pretty much every day. Favorites : What is your favorite color or colors? Dark blue and dark green. What is your favorite time of day? Twilight, when neither Syna nor Leth is visible and you are all alone. What is the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen? What do you like to eat? What do you hate to eat? I don't really like eating anything. Fish is easy and it fills me up so I tend to have that more than anything. The only thing I don't like is wasting a bunch of time on a meal when you could have just eaten it and been done. What is your favorite type of weather? Does any kind scare you? I like rainy weather because then I can stay inside and no one questions it. I don't like when the sea gets too dangerous though. It scares me a bit when the waves get high. It looks like maybe Laviku is angry with me when that happens. Outlook : Are you optimistic or pessimistic? Neither. I'm a realist. I tell the truth how it is. People think that that's pessimism, but in reality we just live in a petched-up world. What are your religious views? I'm not sure about any of the other Gods. I know that they exist, and that they watch us but I don't always agree with their values. I praise Rhaus, Leth, Syna, and Akajita. That's all I need. Would you be able to kill? Mentally, yes. Physically, no. What are your views on sex? I think it should be enjoyed and not hidden. I don't understand why people are so squeamish about it. What, in your opinion, makes a successful life? That's a hard question. I'm not sure I know the answer. I've never met anyone who I thought had a successful life. Actions : What is the worst and best thing you’ve ever done? What is your greatest regret? What is your best/worst memory? If you could change one thing about your past, what would it be and why? What are you the most proud of doing in your life? Are you generally introverted or extroverted? Are you generally organized or messy? I am organized, but everyone I have met insists the opposite. The system goes like this: each of my things has a space. That space might be generic like "on the floor" or specific like "under my pillowcase". If a thing doesn't have a space, I either find one or make another share. It's simple! Beliefs : What God or Goddess do you find most appealing, if any? Rhaus is the greatest of the Gods, in my opinion. That may be a bit biased though, on account of my job and skills. Which God or Goddess do you fear, if any? Do you have any Gnosis Marks? If so, how did you receive them? No. I pray that Rhaus might bless me like that some day but so far he has not. What lengths would you go to to please your deity? Anything for Rhaus! And perhaps, if Syna or Leth asked I would serve them as well. But my true loyalties lie with the God of Music. Where do you draw the line at pleasing your deity? What is too much? I would not kill or steal for him, although if he were to pick a thief I cannot imagine him picking me in the first place. I wouldn't be able to do it very well even if he asked. Life & Death : What do you absolutely live for? My music. Ocarina especially. What is the best part of life? Art. Any kind, be that music or acting or drawing or magic, it's all art to me and it is all beautiful. What is the best part of death? The silence. The peace. The finality and closure. If you could choose, how would you want to die? I would like to die doing what I love. Not that I could kill myself with an ocarina, but maybe I could get assassinated or something. What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death? Nothing. I hope everyone in Mizahar forgets my miserable existence the tick I'm gone.
