Day 20 of Summer in the Year 514 AV

Oh, petch, this was a bad idea…

Kel Tempest staggered through the woods just outside the city of Riverfall near the coast where his ship lay waiting, the sun having just risen two bells prior. He clutched his side painfully with one blood splattered hand, his trident held loosely in the other, dragging listlessly behind him. Once again he found himself in the wilderness locked in battle with the unsavory type that haunted the forest. But as usual, one of the men managed to get a lucky shot in and, well, here he was.

The Svefra leaned heavily against a tree; his breath labored, taking a moment to close his eyes and rest a moment to regain his strength. A layer of sweat covered his brow, cuts and scratches peppering his body from the fight. A nasty wound sliced across his right side by the hands of one of the bandits that dwelt outside the acceptance of the Akalak. He had nearly dodged the blade but was simultaneously attacked by another man and chose to take the cut to the torso rather than the blow to the head.

At least I’ll die a slow, painful death, alone, rather than surrounded by those petchers as I black out.

A wry chuckle escaped his lips but quickly turned into a grimace followed by a groan as the pain laced through his body at the motion. He didn’t know how bad it was but he assumed that from the pain it wasn’t good. Kel restrained another chuckle as a thought momentarily crossed his mind. Tydus was going to be livid at him if he died, having jumped through all those hoops with Caelum to get her to trust his dastardly brother.

The only reason the older Tempest was still around was because Tydus seemed to see a future in Riverfall and while he hated it here, he wasn’t quite ready to leave without his podmate just yet. It also made it a tad tricky for the former Greytide considering the whole city of Riverfall had his description and were ready to gut him if they saw him.

Kel lifted his middle finger in the direction of the city and grinned rudely.

“How do yeh’ like that yeh’ blue petchers, yeh’ can’t execute what’s already dead.”

In his eyes, he was unjustly accused of murder. Two men had jumped him and his acquaintance Chandray while they were walking alone together across the bridge in Riverfall. The men pulled weapons on them and tried to kill them, unprovoked. Kel had incapacitated his duel wielding foe while Chandray’s managed to escape.

The two attempted to…interrogate the captured assassin, but the unknown assailant broke off a false tooth filled with poison and killed himself before they could learn anything. The surviving escapee reported the attack to the authorities and now Kel was a wanted man.

As much as Kel would have liked to wear that as a badge of honor, he didn’t deserve it. At least, not that specific incident. If he was going to be accused of murder and become an outlaw, he would at least liked to have been responsible for actually killing the man.

And he hadn’t forgotten about the surviving man who managed to screw the Svefra over. He would find him. And when he did, there would be blood.

But first, Kel had to survive.

Syna’s light hadn’t even broken over the horizon yet and Alaia was dressed in a simple pair of white pants, a loose flowing tunic, and a pair of sandals. Over her shoulder was slung her backpack which only held her water skin, since she assumed she’d get thirsty in the hot summer sun. The backpack also held her suvai just in case but she wasn’t about to openly carry it around the city. It took her a while to reach the edges of the woods on the other side of the bridge, by the time she reached them Syna’s soft light was already hinting at how hot the day would become. The Konti’s lips tugged into a soft frown as sweat already began to bead along the edges of her hair, the sweat was worth it though if it meant she would find a few herbs or the likes that she wasn’t familiar with so she could study them back in the comfort of her room at the Pearl House.

Alaia pulled out her suvai and remained close to the forests edge so that she didn’t get lost as she didn’t know the woods. Her eyes scanned the forest floor and a soft, sweet hum escaped her hips – an old lullaby or something. She didn’t actually know where the tune came from but it was comforting to her and something familiar in the alien feel of the forest. Spotting a low growing plant she wasn’t familiar with she stepped closer and knelt beside it. She let her backpack fall off her shoulder to the side and she placed her suvai down as she rested her hands on her knees visually inspecting the plant to make sure that it wasn’t something she might not want to touch. It didn’t seem to hold any visual cues of plants she already knew to be poisonous – worst case scenario she could just heal it away, hopefully.

Just as she was about to reach out and begin digging around the edges of the plant so she could take the roots with her as well in case they were worth anything she heard a noise from a few trees in and out of sight. Her bright blue eyes shot up to stare in the direction of the sound; she could have sworn she heard a moan or a groan or something. Whatever it was it did not sound comfortable and she was alone out here in the woods with only her suvai which, if she was being honest with herself, she wasn’t trained in enough to actually be a match for much anything unless she was lucky enough to poison them with it.

Standing up she grabbed her backpack and the suvai and began to creep in the direction of the sound trying to give it a wide berth so that something didn’t just pounce out of the cover of its tree and attack her. Her heart rate picked up as adrenaline started to pour into her veins; it was as if every sound around her was just waiting to give her a scare. Her imagination kicked into over drive and suddenly she felt like she did when she was 12 on those ‘field trips’ with S’Essy back on Mura – absolutely terrified of what might happen but also to curious to no pursue whatever it might be that will most likely get her some type of trouble.

She heard talking from behind a tree and it allowed her to narrow down her search to a small grouping though she wasn’t entirely sure what had been said but the sound was deep enough that she assumed it was male. A few more steps carried her closer and suddenly she was met with the vision of a dark haired man slumped against the trunk of a tree clearly beat up, bleeding and in pain. The fear that had been building in her system was dampened as the healer in her pushed her forward without caution now. “Oh Goddess...Are you alright?” She spoke in common figuring that would be the best route to take – really she never thought she’d use common as much as Kavala insisted she would but so many people didn’t speak Kontinese here that she was forced into the language.

Her suvai was still in her hand but it was lowered and her blue eyes scanned his body as she came to stop a little over a foot away. “Of course you’re not alright ...” She answered to herself without thinking and she dropped her pack lower on her arm so that she could open it and put her Suvai away inside before dropping it off to the side out of the male’s reach. “What happened to you?” Her breath filled her voice as her eyes took in the numerous smaller cuts before landing on the one in his gut. “Oh …” She frowned in concern and without any thought other then the fact she needed to heal the wound she tilted her eyes up to his and bit her lip trying to assess him and the situation.

“…I’m Alaia … I can help.” She nodded to his multiple wounds though her main concern was the one in his side. Normally she would have just started to work on him while introducing him but well her eyes lit on the trident that was beside him and she didn’t want to spook him and get hurt herself. It was better for both of the strangers if she introduced herself. “I am going to help you.” The Konti asserted after a breath, she wasn’t going to leave him here to bleed. After introducing herself she gave the area a slow scan of her eyes looking for anything that might help her because his major wound was to much for her own healing abilities.

Pain laced up and down the Svefra’s side as he stood, leaning heavily against the thick oak tree. He could feel his body weakening from the loss of blood, the life giving fluid slowly dripping down his side from the wound. The bandits he left in his wake were in far worse condition then he. Collectively, the outlaws and himself might both be criminals by the Akalak standards but that didn’t make them cut from the same cloth.

Respect was earned through trial by combat in his eyes. If one couldn’t prove their merit through steel, they were only good for ridicule. He figured if people thought their lives were important, they would do everything they could to protect it. But how could one protect their life if they couldn’t fight?

Therefore, they did not find their lives to be very important. That was, at least, how he saw it. He knew that one day, he’d be cut down in a blaze of glory, but it wouldn’t be from any lack of effort on his part. The men he fought in the woods only moments before seemed not to care much for their lives, their attempts to fight were weak, seeing as how he was alive and they were dead.

But Kel was abruptly ripped from his reveries as a feminine voice pierced through the air. He jerked back, momentarily startled and lifted the trident up towards the sound. His eyes narrowed as his sapphire blue scanned the foliage around him for the source until they finally landed on a beautiful woman that emerged from the forest.

Wounded, covered in blood and ready to collapse from exhaustion, Kel’s first reaction was one that defined his personality. He mustered together the last reservoirs of his strength and lifted one eyebrow, smirking at her cockily, looking her up and down appraisingly. It had been awhile since the last time he had seen a Konti, having left Riverfall half a season ago and having only recently returning. Though his time in the city had been…short. Being an alleged criminal made navigating a city full of watchful Akalak difficult.

Her words registered in his mind and his smirk grew. He looked down at his side and held out his blood covered hand, shrugging nonchalantly. Sarcasm tinged his words as he grinned at her impishly.

“Aye, this? Tis’ just a flesh wound, mate. I’ve survived worse. Teh’ other guy just be getting’ a lucky blow in, tis all.”

Mischief flicked in his blue eyes as he watched the woman’s startled and slightly fearful expression. He could tell she had no idea what to make of a strange, armed man, alone in the woods and bleeding out. Glancing down, he noted the weapon she gripped tightly in one hand. She held it with a seemingly uncertain grip, as one who was not quite familiar with it. Having been in that place before and seeing others in it, Kel was able to piece it together fairly quickly that she hadn’t much experience fighting.

But if she stuck around him long enough, that might change pretty quickly.

Her question about what happened floated towards him and he rested his head against the tree tiredly, watching her in amusement.

“Eh, yeh’ know. Just be takin’ a stroll through teh’ woods, fully armed, covered in blood. Just ‘nother day, yeh’ know.”

He winked at her, a quick grin flashing across his face but quickly turning into a wince as he shifted against the tree. Lowering himself, he landed with a grunt on the ground, propped up by the tree before setting his trident down beside him. He stuck a hand behind his back and wrestled for a few ticks before pulling out a curved blade and setting the kukri down beside him as well.

Finally comfortable, he gestured Alaia over. If she pulled his black tunic up and probed the wound, she would sense no ill intent towards her, just mild interest. She would also feel a incredibly strong longing to be out on the sea, rather than in the forest. Meanwhile, as she approached him, Kel attempted to give an awkward half bow but let out a soft gasp of pain as it pulled at the open wound.

“Teh’ name is Kel. Kel Tempest. Yeh’ can help all yeh’ want but it tis’ just a flesh wound, as I be tellin’ yeh.”

He locked eyes with her, his dark blues peering into hers, dark, curly hair cascading over his sweat slicked brow.

“What brings yeh’ out here inna’ woods, eh? Nothin’ but bandits and trees inna’ this fer’saken place…”

He scowled in irritation, his dislike for the forest apparent, already missing the ocean where his casinor lay anchored. But he was stuck here for the moment so he might as well enjoy the company.

Alaia’s eyes were drawn back to the male when he began speaking, his sarcasm and his smirk creating a combination that the Konti found herself laughing quietly at. Whether it was because she found his chatter charming or stupid she wasn’t entirely sure but men were always trying to act tougher then they probably were. Her chuckle in his response quickly faded however when he mentioned the other guy, of course he didn’t catch himself with his own trident though it wouldn’t have been the first time she had to heal someone who accidently harmed themselves with their own weapon.
“Is the other harmed?” Her gaze didn’t leave his, he was her immediate concern since he was in front of her but that didn’t stop her from wondering if she could find the others in time to help them as well. Then again if she healed this male perhaps he would go and finish the job before she could heal those who had been injured by him. It was a sticky conflict in the healer’s mind but she shook her head and started to move towards him after a breath, he was here now and she could help him so that’s what she was going to do.

The next words to come out of his mouth made her give him a flat stare until he winked and smiled at her making her shake her head and roll her eyes at him with a grin. Her lips parted to speak but then her mouth shut as she watched him shift around to pull out a knife from behind him and place it with his trident. It was obvious to the Konti that she should probably be careful around this male, he was armed and not just for a casual stroll through the woods. She hadn’t realized she paused when she saw the knife but instead of moving closer to him like she planed she grabbed her backpack where she had stashed her Suvai. Pulling her own weapon out she glanced up just in time to see him gesturing her closer it suddenly occurred to her that she might need something to bandage the wounds and since her pants were all she had she was going to use her Suvai to help her tear through the fabric.

Alaia didn’t speak for now, instead she moved to his side and knelt beside him, placing her Suvai down she frowned at his gasp.
“Stop hurting yourself.” Her tone was firm but the hands that reached towards him were as gentle as Syna’s warm morning rays. Grasping the edge of his shirt and lifting she didn’t seem at all bothered by the blood, her eyes tilted to his when he spoke his name and finally she offered him a true smile that creased in the corners of her eyes “Are you a doctor Kel Tempest?” She teased him playfully, doubting he was but since he was intent on diagnosing his own wounds she couldn’t help it. Tempest. The name was one she was familiar with and as he own light blue eyes met the depth of his her smile softened “You’re a Svefra, in the woods … that’s like a fish on land…” she chuckled lightly and finally removed her gaze from his finding the svefra blue to distracting if she wanted to concentrate on healing him.

The wound in his side was deeper then she could make go away and it made her sigh, her brows knitting together in concentration for a moment while she figured out her next steps in how to deal with him.
“I was looking to study some new herbs. I wanted to learn something of the woods here – I’ve not been living here long and I’ve never come out here before.” Alaia offered her words in a quiet tone, no need to talk loud when she was hovering over his body checking on his wounds. Reaching behind herself with one hand she grabbed her suvai and brought it forward, her eyes tilted up to his once more as she shifted to sit on her bottom “Why are you in the woods? I’ve met a few of you Tempests … always on or near the water.” She had met Adney and Tydus at least. Adney had been an absolute sweet heart, she didn’t really know what to make of Tydus and she wasn’t sure if she should put Kel on the Adney side or the Tydus side of the Tempest boys just yet. Most likely Tydus’s side as Kel seemed to have the same charm about him that she was beginning to associate with all Svefra’s, not just the Tempests. Kel didn’t seem pure like she thought Adney was, his eyes were to welcoming and his mouth smirked with his words as if he knew how to use his charms to get what he wanted. Yes, Kel was lumped in with Tydus – even Atoll was, though Atoll wasn’t a Tempest. Damn Svefra’s, damn their blue eyes and damn the scent of the sea that always seems to cling to them.

While waiting for him to answer she shifted the point of the Suvai to face her legs before using her free hand to hold the loose white fabric as far from her own legs as possible. Concentrating she pierced the cotton fabric as high up as she could on her thigh without causing herself to go pantless. A tick later she sucked in a gasp of pain when the fabric gave way to the blade quicker then she had anticipated. She had only pricked herself so she ignored the drop of crimson blood welling on the surface of her creamy skin and instead she ripped the fabric a little more with the suvai before she used her hands to do the rest. The ripping and tearing was jerky and haphazard, not at all pretty. She didn’t pick up her weapon again until she got to the seams where she wasn’t strong enough to tear through. Slipping the sleeve of her pant leg off her leg she placed it neatly off to the side exposing her pale skin and scales as well as the droplets of blood that had made their way down the outside of her thigh with her movement. The wound on her own leg was barely even trickling so she ignored it and turned to her other pant leg repeating the process only without harming herself this time.

Finally when she was done with her pant legs she broke them down into length-wise strips that she could tie together as a make shift bandage for his own wound. Pulling herself back to her knees beside him she quirked an apologetic smile before assuring him
“I’m not going to hurt you, it’s torn anyways.” Alaia used the sharp tip of the suvai to tear through the fabric of his shirt and get it out of her way and away from dirtying the wound. As long as he didn’t yell at her she’d help remove the scraps of, now useless, shirt from his torso. “That’s better.” She murmured allowing her own body to shift closer now as she sat on her feet and grabbed her backpack to fish out the water skin within it, opening it she sighed and pressed one hand against his chest more as a way to steady him. She had been careful about not touching his skin when she had removed the shirt, from his body but now, just like every other time; her mind was flooded with images she didn’t want to see. The barrage of images made her jaw clench and her fingers to unconsciously twitch on his chest – she saw his curiosity in her plain as day as well as his hesitations about her though she didn’t understand why he’d be hesitant over her. He was the one with the weapons. Most everything else, other than a few flashes of his boat, was as cloudy as a rainstorm. Normally there was more to tell about a person and the fact that there was so little he planned for the next couple days both settled her and made her antsy to understand him. Finally after a few ticks of her unfocused gaze she forced herself back into the present and her other hand brought the water to just over his wound as she spoke “I’m just going to flush it a little, the water might feel cold to you, it might even hurt but I need to do it so try not to wiggle….please.”

Her eyes watched his for a tick longer before she looked down at what she was doing, the water pouring out slowly over the wound making the blood thin and run pink over his skin to the ground. She used the water slowly and sparingly so they had something to drink still but she spoke as she used what she had to cleanse the wound. “Sorry about your shirt.” Biting her bottom lip a blush crept onto her cheeks and she stopped pouring water over his wound, it was still bleeding but she didn’t want to risk using all the water in the summer heat and she had just used a third of it. This was definitely not how she expected to spend her morning but she doubted he had planned on getting a wound in his side as well. Now that she had flushed the wound a bit it actually made the area around easier to examine as well and she was cursing herself for not bringing medical supplies. If she had the right tools she could have cleansed the wound and stitched him up and all would be dandy but he would have to settle for her make shift bandages and a little bit of cleansing from Rak’keli.

“Were you looking for trouble when you came to the woods?” She nodded to his weapons as she tried to make conversation. With a delicate hand she flipped long waves of gilded hair behind her ear to get them out of her face; her eyes were searching his face. As a rule she did everything she could not to touch people, it wasn’t right to pry into their lives and she didn’t want to know their secrets but the man before her was a little bit of a different story. His intentions other than finding out about her were so cloudy that Alaia couldn’t help her need to understand him and so she would take a piece of her pants and tear the slip in half with a grunt before she gently wiped clear the area around the wound, making sure to keep her other hand on him as she spoke. “I think you will need to rest for a few days, I don’t have anything to suture this with and my healing isn’t strong enough to do anything but cleanse the wound of possible infection. After I do that I’ll bandage you okay?” Looking up at him she smiled softly giving him instructions “You’re going to have to make sure to keep the wound clean, no more playing with bandits.” She smiled brighter than finding amusement in her claim that he had been playing with them as children play with other children.

The concern that the crouching Konti had for him, as well as his opponent, caused him to roll his eyes dramatically. He rarely cared about the well being of others and never took a moment to examine why exactly that was. He considered it to be a blessing, in some ways. If one didn’t care about others, he had nothing to worry about if they abandoned him or died. It was just another wall he threw up to protect himself it seemed.

Kel thought a moment about her question, staring right back at her, his gaze unwavering, not in the least bit uncomfortable with the prolonged eye contact. His opponents, both of them, lay in a pool of their own blood, eyes staring vacantly into nothingness. When his mouth opened, his unfiltered thoughts were the first thing to leave his tongue.

“If by harmed, yeh’ mean dead, then ya'. They be very harmed.”

He flicked his wrist brazenly in the general direction of where he had left the dead bandits behind with an air of indifference. Whether or not she disapproved of his activities, he didn’t really care. If she refused to help him because of it, it wasn’t any skin off his back. Well, it was more skin off his side than anything else, considering the current circumstances. He winced again, as the pain radiating from his side, made itself known.

Ever since returning to Riverfall from Kenash, the outlaw had, not surprisingly, found himself tangled in a somewhat complex plot that completely put to shame everything else he had done since his initial arrival in the Spring. Between his exile, Tydus’ deal with Caelum, an Akalak guard he had encountered in the dead of night and the hunting of the man who got the Svefra into the whole mess in the first place, Kel had his plate full.

Sometimes he needed to just escape it all and just…relax.

Kel watched idly as the woman moved to her pack and pulled out an interestingly shaped weapon that he had never seen before. He looked at it with a newfound interest. His eyes shifted from the sharp…thing towards her face and stared intently. A woman wandering alone in the woods filled with bandits, wild beasts and the unknown; eager to help a heavily armed stranger who was bleeding out and had just killed two men, possessed a bizarrely crafted weapon and still remaining unfazed in the face of it all.

He had no idea what to make of her.

Her rebuke had a hint of command in it as well as a glimmer of humor when she told him to stop hurting himself. He grinned ruthfully in response and snorted. He let her do her thing, not really sure what she was up to but knowing he had nothing to lose by allowing her to work undisturbed. He watched as she worked diligently.

She seemed to possess a strong spirit, unafraid of anything, her mind set on the task at hand while at the same time making her patient comfortable. He could tell she was very talented at what she did. When she asked him, what he assumed was a playfully rhetorical question, he responded in kind, a hint of mischief in his blue eyes.

“I like teh’ think I’ma what’ch ya’d call a Master of All Trades. Splash a lil’ salt water in it, good as new in me books. Seemed ta’ work inna’ past.”

Small, jagged scars dotted his torso near the wound where she worked, injuries from past battles and incidents the Svefra typically found himself in. He won a fair share of his fights, lost more than he’d like to admit but always managed to come out with some kind of new wound. This time was no different.

He wasn't really listening to her but her talk of herbs and the woods was soothing; he liked the sound of her voice as it floated and curled around him like the breeze that swept through the woods. It was calming. Relaxing.

“Well unless yeh’ got teh’ few herbs ta’ make me hair blonde, I ain’t got no use fer’ such things.”

His words were rough, as was his accent, though it was not his intention. Kel had few interests outside of combat and the sea. He was not known for his subtly or to mince his words in social settings. He said what he thought; blunt as the butt of his trident, blast the consequences. He knew he pissed off more people than he could count; making enemies was what he was good at. And he thought it was hilarious.

It wasn’t until she mentioned having met other Tempests did she catch his attention. His eyebrows shot up and he stared at her, trying to read her thoughts. He wondered what she thought of them. Regardless of what she knew about the others, she had no idea what she was about to get herself into. They might all possess the same pod name, but Kel was nothing like his brethren.

“Yeh’ met Tydus, eh?” The Svefra snorted again and rolled his eyes. “Yeh’ better watch out fer’ that ‘un. He’ll be tryin’ ta’ steal yehr’ heart, ‘n a few others things.”

Half a smile tugged at the corner of his lips. The warning didn't come from the goodness of his heart, he actually said it so the next time she saw him, she would be a little hesitant, wary even, hopefully robbing Tydus the opportunity of "getting to know her better".

She had no idea what she had gotten herself into. Tempests were trouble. She would either come to hate them or love them. Usually it was an odd mixture of both. And once she discovered what they were really about, she would come to a cross road: run for the hills or throw her lot in with them. Either way, she would most likely find herself unable to stay away, irresistibly drawn to the adventure and danger that followed in the wake of the Tempests.

That’s how Kel figured it to be, at least. Who’d want to live a boring, mundane life when one could have adventure? He never understood those who didn’t make the most of life. Being alive didn’t mean shyke if one didn’t live it.

Kel looked up at her innocently as she asked about what brought him into the woods. As hard as he tried, a small light glimmered playfully in his eyes as he responded.

“I told yeh’. Went fer’ a walk. Gotta stretch yehr’ legs don’tcha know.”

As much as he enjoyed toying with her, he still didn’t trust her. She was Konti. Part of Riverfall, the ones who were after him. For all he knew, she could have been looking for him and intended to turn him over to the Kuvay’Nas first chance she got.

Once again, Kel found his Laviku blessed eyes gazing at the woman’s lovely form, watching as she began cutting the fabric of her pants. He was about to make a sarcastic comment when a bout of dizziness hit him and he reeled slightly in discomfort. The loss of blood was making him feel light headed. It wasn’t until she lifted the blade to slice through his shirt did he protest.

“Aye! That’s me shirt yehr’ cuttin’ woman! I only got one…”

He grumbled, not really upset about the shirt but complaining for the sake of being dramatic. He allowed her to cut through the black material with her bizarre shaped weapon though, still watching her face as she worked. The concentration and focus continued to intrigue him. He wasn’t sure why.
The shirt came off, revealing the swirling black and blues of his Oceanus tattoo, the design shifting and moving slightly across his pectoral. Another tattoo, depicting octopus tentacles wrapping around a time piece was curled around his forearm, showing his relation to the Tempest pod.

Her question surprised him and he looked at her in confusion.

“What do yeh’ mean, lookin’ fer’ trouble? Yeh’ mean ta’ tell me, yeh’ don’t walk around armed? Tis’ stupid not too mate. Yeh’ can’t trust people. ‘Ery ones out fer’ themselves, gotta’ watch yehr’ back.”

Kel shook his head. He didn’t understand why one wouldn’t go about their business unarmed. It was foolhardy. One never knew when trouble would arise. He was painfully distracted from his line of thought as the Konti began probing at the wound and Kel withheld a grimace from appearing on his face. He could feel himself growing tired and sleepy. He just wanted to lie down and take a nap. But she kept probing the wound and causing sharp, stabs of pain through his side.

Even though she was inflicting even more pain on him, he wanted to figure out why he was so intrigued by this woman who felt the need to help those who were in pain. Even when it meant risking her own life for those she didn’t know.

Maybe getting cut up wasn’t so bad after all.

The news that fell from his lips about the bandits he had encountered didn’t surprise her, in fact it surprised her that it didn’t surprise her. He seemed like the type of man who would protect himself at all costs – if the weapons were any hint towards this anyways. She worked between the words shared, her eyes occasionally flicking to his when he said something that intrigued her and made her want to ask him more about it when she wasn’t working on his wound. It was the comment about the sea water that made her smile and nod
“Sea water is very good for wounds, I’d prefer to use that but we don’t have it because you’re a beached Svefra.”

She didn’t miss his comment about wanting blonde hair; did he want to look more like Tydus? That wouldn’t happen, their jaws were all different. The dark hair seemed to fit him as well, darkness was meant for those who were mysterious and really what was more mysterious then coming up on a man wounded in the woods? The Konti didn’t comment on it for now, instead she chose to address his next statement that was directed about the blonde Tempest
“That won’t be happening …” her words were a bit harder then she had meant them as she watched Kel’s face. Alaia guarded her own heart more than probably was natural for someone who had never had a romantic relationship but none the less she added after a tick to soften her previous statement “…thanks for the warning though.” It was odd to her that one Tempest would speak of another the way Kel just did but maybe her assumptions on their little families was wrong? She wasn’t sure.

Asking about his weapons and him being in the woods again made her laugh softly when he responded
“I am walking around armed …” she nodded to her Suvai as she finished cleaning the area around his wound with the scrap of cloth, she might not be the best fighter but she knew a few moves “… but I am not the one who is laying here at my mercy.” She smirked then and pulled her hands away from him to use a clean corner of the cloth she had been using to wipe off the blood on her own thigh finally. Sitting there for a moment she took the time to actually look at his tattoos, unabashed by staring at him as she did so. “Those are beautiful.” She offered after her pause glancing between the pair before looking up into his eyes “Why do you want blonde hair? You look … just fine with dark hair.”

Shifting her weight to sit more comfortably she reached out to touch him again, this time closing her eyes as she did so. Healing did not require her to close her eyes but she found it easier to concentrate when she did, it was that or stare at him and that would be rather distracting, so eyes closed it was. Her chest rose with the deep calming breath she took and then it fell again as she let it out and began her silent prayers to Rak’keli. Her gentle touch against his wound would be feather-light but the warm glow that began to form from the center of her palms would be more comforting then harmful as she worked. She could taste the depth of his wound almost on the back of her tongue and if she had at all questioned what she could heal for him before she would know in that moment that it was far too deep for her to do anything but cleanse.

Subtly she bit her bottom lip not at all uncomfortable with the silence that fell as the glow from her hands washed into the wound pressing warmth into the deepest parts with her magic. While silence was something she typically preferred she did seem to find that most patients would rather talk when she worked. So many people were comforted by talking and she didn’t really understand it but she did it anyways.
“I can help you back where you want to go after this if you’d like – I can’t just leave you here in the woods.” Her voice faded for a few chimes whether he responded or not she’d keep her silence as she cleaned out the wound until finally she pulled her hands back and opened her eyes slowly. “Where will you be in a day or two? I have to come make sure it’s healing alright.” She wasn’t asking him if she could see him again, she would look for him whether he wanted her to or not just to make sure everything was okay. It would just make her life easier if he told her where he’d be.

Finally she’d pull the strips of pants closer to her and she’d look at him, her gaze sweeping from his face to his waist and back up again to see how she could bandage him while causing him the least amount of pain. She could move him, that would make her job easier to get him to lean away from the tree but that might cause the wound to stretch and the bleeding seemed to be slowly clotting. It would be the hard way she supposed. There was enough space between him and the tree that she could weave her small hands in the spaces as long as he didn’t mind her being so close to him.
“I’m going to bandage you now, try not to move please.”

Grabbing the first piece she leaned up on her knees and laid the fabric slowly across the wound allowing it to fully cover the bleeding area, blood already staking a claim in the fabric when it was placed. She was a rather short person so her pants legs weren’t exactly the ideal length for what she was doing. Holding one end a few inches past the wound on his stomach she used her other hand to weave behind his back causing her own body to awkwardly try not to touch his so she didn’t hurt him but still her chest would brush his arm as she tried to maneuver the fabric.

Her own arms were too short to easily flex around the back of him in her current position but an idea came to her and she nodded to the part she was holding on his stomach.
“Can you hold this?” She offered him a sheepish smile and carefully avoided eye contact; in fact she was avoiding all looks to his face now with the proximity of their bodies while the faintest of blushes even dared to grace her cheeks as she worked. If he held the end like she asked she would lean across his body, one arm in the space between his back and the tree while her torso was hovering over his so she could grab the end with her other hand and hold it in place again.

The first piece of fabric only ended at the curve of his ribs and she held it in place there so that she could grab another piece of cloth and she’d tie a small simple knot with the two ends so they were less likely to come apart when he eventually stood up. She would make the bandaging tight and as secure as she could with the pieces of fabric tying each end to the previous piece. If he cooperated with her she’d eventually surround the wound four times before she ran out of fabric and she’d tuck the loose end snuggling it into the top of the bandage so that it held in place.
“There.” She’d murmur looking at her make-shift bandage for a moment before she adjusted her weight on her legs to put a decent amount of space between them. “I’m sorry I can’t do more than that.” Her lips held a subtle frown, slightly frustrated by her inability to do more, while grabbing the water skin and offering it out to him. She was thirsty so she assumed he might be and he would need it more than she did.

Everyone Likes A Bad Boy [Alaia]

He was mildly surprised at the lack of reaction the Konti expressed when he openly admitted to killing the outlaws that lurked within the forest. He initially took her for an uptight stickler who desperately needed to follow all the rules, but now, he took a second look at her and began to reconsider his opinion.

He cast aside those thoughts though as she began to tease him. Kel Tempest wrinkled his nose and made a face at her at the comment about being compared to that of a beached whale.

“Bahh, bein’ considered a ‘beached Svefra’ as yeh’ so politely called me, means I can’t be gettin’ back inna’ water. I’ma quite capable thankee very much. I don’t know if yeh’ noticed these bad boys but,” he slapped one of his thighs and smirked at her slyly. “They be more than able ta’.”

He wiggled his eyebrows at her, purposely trying to make her uncomfortable.

As a Svefra, he was more than comfortable with his semi nude body. Upon the sea, most Svefra, male and female, sailed with little to no clothes upon their bodies. It wasn’t considered to be impolite or embarrassing; it was just how they lived. But he had also discovered since arriving in Riverfall, some did not feel the same way. So being the considerate man he was, he went out of his way to make others feel uncomfortable.

To add onto his discomfort, Kel glanced down at his kukri that lay on his right and his trident that sat on his left, taking comfort in the fact that they were within reach. He typically felt uneasy when he was unarmed. Being a warrior, one learned to let their weapon become an extension of their bodies. To not have the familiar weight in his hand or at his side always made him feel ill at ease. So when Alaia mentioned being armed he scoffed.

“HAH! Yeh’ might have a blade on yeh’, but it won’t do yeh’ any good inna’ yehr’ bag…”

Before she could respond, Kel snatched up his kukri with his fighting arm and flicked the edge up towards her exposed neck as she glanced over at her Suvai. He snapped his wrist to a stop before the sharp steel could touch her, instead letting it hover there.

“Yehr’ blade doesn’t do yeh’ any good in yehr bag, mate. How yeh’ gonna get it out if yeh’ get attacked? Always need ta’ be prepared, yeh do. ‘N trust me, I ain’t at no one’s mercy.”

If she looked up at him, all she would see was his passive face, his sapphire eyes unreadable as he looked at her. He was a wild card. Not even he knew what he would do. But as unpredictable as he was, he was also dependable in a pinch. As long as one stayed on his good side that is.

He knew she would either freak out as he held a large dagger to her throat or become angry at him but he didn’t really care. He was teaching her a lesson she would do well to learn. It could save her life one day. She might be angry at him for now but it would do her good in the long run. She had a very useful set of skills; he didn’t want to see such talent wasted because of a stupid mistake.

He slowly moved the large knife away from her neck, letting it rest between them.

Kel closed his eyes and leaned his head against the rough bark of the tree. He waited patiently as she continued to wrap his wound with the fabric cut from her pants. Her question about his hair caused him to grin slightly. He opened his blue eyes and looked back down at her, smirking.

“Think I look good, eh?” He wiggled his eyebrows at her again before shrugging. “Tis’ too distinguishable. Need ta’ blend in fer’ a bit. Not many Svefra have black hair, t’will make it easier fer’ me inna’ long run. Sadly I not know how teh’ even dye it.”

He began to grumble slightly as he finished speaking. If he were able to dye his hair, it would allow him to sneak in to Riverfall a little easier. He’d be forced to leave Jenkins and his trident behind since the Akalak had his description, but sacrifices had to be made if he wanted to hunt down the man who screwed him.

She began to do something to his side and he could feel a heat smoldering there. He didn’t know what was happening but he chose not to question it for the time being. Shortly after, the Konti began to wrap the wound with the strips of material, binding his wound and stopping the blood flow. She began to talk as she worked, but he tuned her out.

Something had caught his attention.

Kel’s eyes narrowed as he looked past her, into the dark forest around them. His sharp ears caught the sound of branches being broken, as if something was moving through them. It was out of place from the usual sounds that took place in the woods. But it wasn’t just the rustling of branches that caught his attention.

It was the lack of bird song.

Their cry seemed to come to a stop. And his experience, when the birds stopped singing, it meant that something was disturbing their peace. And that didn’t bode well for them.

Kel gripped his kukri tightly in his hand, watching for movement. His body tensed in anticipation, sending a spike of pain through his side. He was exhausted from his battle earlier and the wound was draining his energy like none other. If it came down to fighting, he didn’t know how it would turn out.

But that was all a part of the adventure.

Alaia seemed to have finished and she sat back with a satisfied look on her face. He heard her talking to him again and he mumbled something incoherently in response. But he was still blocking her out, waiting.

Suddenly two armed men burst from the foliage, stumbling into the small clearing the two sat in. One had a short sword at his belt and the other a large club. Both looked gruff, as if they lived in the forest. The look on their faces was one that only those struck by the bloodlust possessed.

They locked eyes on the two sitting by the tree and traded hostile glances with one another. Kel watched as their eyes moved from them, to the weapons at his side and back to them again. Fury gleamed in their eyes. One stepped forward aggressively; hand on the hilt of his sword as he challenged them.

“Hey! Little petcher! Yeah, I’m talking to you…you have anything to do with the two men dead in the clearing just over there?”

Both men advanced towards them, faces bright red and fire burning in their eyes. They were out for blood that much was obvious. Kel slowly moved the kukri so it was concealed between Alaia’s form and his own from the men. He looked over at them lazily, a goofy grin spreading across his face unconcerned. He cocked an eyebrow up at them, purposely trying to egg them on.

“’N what’s it teh’ yeh’, hmm?”

The bandits he killed not a bell before must have been discovered by some of their friends. Petch. He hadn’t planned on sticking around this long. Now he had to deal with them. He just hoped Alaia knew how to wield that weapon of hers…

The rough looking man looked stunned for a moment as the Svefra refused to be intimidated and responded so nonchalantly to the threat. But he quickly shook it off and stomped towards them, sword half pulled from its sheath.

“Why you little shyke…I’ll show you 'what’s it to me'…”

The bandit growled as he crossed the clearing towards the two. Kel gauged the distance as the man grew closer. Waiting, waiting….waiting.

And then Kel struck.

The kukri slashed through the air as the angry outlaw stepped within range. Kel spun the blade on the palm on his hand, reversing his grip so the point faced the ground and drove it through the man’s foot as hard as he could, spearing it into the ground underneath.

A shriek of pain pierced the forest as the blade sliced through leather, bone and earth. Kel took advantage of the distraction and snatched up his trident, grimacing in pain as his injury cried out. He ignored it and staggered to his feet, blood rushing to his head and almost sending him crashing back down to the ground. The Svefra managed to gather his wits about him and stay upright. The Tempest cast a glance at Alaia, a small smirk dancing across his face.

“Hope yeh’ know how teh’ fight, girly. Cuz yeh’ don’t got much choice now…”

Alaia’s smile was sheepish when he quoted her calling him a beached Svefra, her eyes of course being drawn to his thighs as he slapped them making her blush and frown looking up at him. He had succeeded in making her uncomfortable as the blush on her cheeks clearly revealed, she avoiding his eyes then for the moment. It wasn’t until he brought his blade to her throat did her entire body freeze except her eyes which shifted to his, fear reflected in her own. Her heart pounded in her ears but she made no move for her own weapon, whether it was the smart choice or not she wasn’t sure but he could press that blade into her throat before she wrapped her hand around the Suvai so she didn’t see the point. The blade wasn’t even the worst of the moment, it was the look on his face and the fact that even though she wasn’t touching him now she had been a second before and she hadn’t seen it coming. He was unpredictable, the thought settled into her mind like ice sliding down her spine and she listened to his words with apprehension.

What could she say? Nothing, there was no response she knew to give to his little lesson before and instead she followed his blade when it was laid on the ground between them, it wasn’t until then that she decided to change the subject and work back on his wound. Her motions were careful now, as if she was dealing with a beast rather than a man, waiting for his actions to catch her by surprise again.
“I said you look fine with black hair.” She corrected him as he tried to tease her though a faint smile found its way to her lips, unbidden, when he wiggled his eyebrows. Shaking her head to herself she finished up his bandage and it wasn’t until she was done did she note his intense silence.

Before she was able to digest the glare from his eyes pointed directly behind her into the forest the sound of men barreling out of the cover of trees made her turn her head and look at them with nothing less than shock and wide eyes. They spoke and the pulse in her neck kicked up a notch though she slowly tried to get her expressions under control, perhaps she should have paid more attention to Kel when he said he killed two bandits. They were past her ability to care for them when they were dead, unlike him, she her dismissive nature about them had been done without much thought. She felt the shift between their bodies as he moved the kukri though her eyes stayed fixated on the men who were approaching.

The Konti remained silent during all their banter, she rather appear meek and unimportant and have them think that Kel was the threat – she wasn’t the best fighter and though the poison of her suvai would probably do most of the work she still rather be a surprise then an expectation. The bandit’s scream as the kukri plunged into his foot made Alaia jump, she didn’t have time to contemplate what to do instead she grabbed her suvai which was still sitting where she had left it with his discarded shirt and she stood a second after Kel had pulled himself up.
“I guess we’ll see.” She murmured to him though her eyes locked on the bandit who was not pinned by a blade, her grip on her suvai a little too tight for a proper fight so she forced herself to loosen it.

The second bandit roared at Kel when he harmed his mate but then he noticed Alaia stand as well, his eyes zeroing in on the suvai in her hand before a hoarse laugh escaped his mouth.
“Oye, yah got a pretty little lady here who thinks she can play?” His words coated Alaia in filth, the look he gave her wasn’t much better and it made her want a dip in the sea to wash away the feeling. “Let’s play doll, maybe I’ll even teach you a few things on how to please a man.” Taking a last look at his friend he figured the man could handle himself, it was just a wound and the trident baring man was injured as well. He wanted to girl. He moved towards her and she shifted her feet to carry them away from Kel, her steps backing her up as he pursued. Her eyes were wide, the mask of indifference she was trying to maintain faltering and her palm sweated making the suvai harder to hold. This was much different then training with someone, this was real and she either had to hurt or be hurt. She didn’t want to hurt anyone and part of her heaved at the idea of causing harm rather than healing it but she knew it had to be done.

He was speaking still, commenting on her bare legs or something – she didn’t hear it, the only thing she heard was her pulse in her ears and the crunch of her feet. Suddenly her back hit a tree and she let out a sound that only gave way to her fears causing him to laugh openly, he was toying with her and she hated that she knew it. Deep breaths Alaia, deep breaths.Within an instant he was on her, his dagger poised in his hand and she let him think he was going to, the closeness was an advantage to her because she wasn’t skilled enough to chase him around hoping for a lucky shot. Everything happened in a blur in Alaia’s mind, his body almost upon hers and then her suvai was coming up in a wild thrash of her wrist and her eyes closed in the breath of a moment. This was definitely nothing like a spar.

The bite of his blade stung deep across her collar bone, she didn’t know if it was her wild arm wave that made his blade not hit anything vital or if he was just messing with her. It was then that she opened her eyes and forced herself to face him; he was so close she could smell his horrid breath with every pull of air through her lungs. Oh what she would give to be in the water using her gills in that moment rather than tasting him. She saw her own fear reflected in his face and his blade coming for a second attack though this one seemed more aimed for something vital, annoyance on his face from her attempted defense.

Alaia’s arm struck out again, this time with less flail and more concentration on directing a hit to any part of him she could reach. Her suvai struck at the same time his blade found her ribs and claimed purchase in her skin making her cry out in pain only to bite the sound back a tick later. She saw the satisfaction in his face turn to shock when her blade cut across his cheek bone, not exactly where she was aiming, but the poison spread through his veins all the same. It took a few ticks and then he began to fall backwards and when he did his hand, still wrapped around his dagger, pulled from her flesh making her cry out again. With the bandit on the ground unable to move she felt her body stagger backwards into the tree and her hand came up to cover the wound in her ribs, putting pressure on it as the blood soaked through her white tunic. Her blue eyes shifted from the fallen man in front of her, he would be out for a while and she could heal him once she made sure that Kel wasn’t getting killed a few trees away. Her breathing was labored not only from her fear that was still spreading through her veins like venom but because of the pain lancing her every breath she took. She didn’t have time to make sure she was alright though – it was Kel she was worried about he had already been hurt at the start.

The bandit, forgetting about his sword at his side, crouched down towards his feet, moaning in pain as blood soaked his boot a dark brown. Wrapping his hand around the hilt of the blade, he whimpered as the metal shifted, slicing into his severed nerve endings, damaging them even further.

With a loud scream, he jerked the kukri free and tossed it aside. He leaned against the tree, putting his weight against the thick trunk. He looked up at the Svefra, face drawn, pain and anger fighting for control over his features.

Kel winked at him, face pale from the loss of blood. He looked down at bare torso where the red tinged bandages wrapped around his wound and then back up at the man. He snorted at the obvious agony the outlaw was in.

“Aww, stop bein’ a lil’ girl. Yehr' embarrasing, yehr'self. Tis’ just a flesh wound. But now tis’ a even playin’ field. Yehr’ friend cut me, ‘n I crippled yeh’. Wouldn’t want yeh’ ta’ be cheatin’, now would we?”

Kel’s normal flair in combat was minimized for the time being. But that didn’t stop him from making snide comments. He didn’t need the man to realize what bad shape he was in. His focus was keeping his grip on his trident and keeping the forest from spinning around him. At least his injury was bound and would hopefully keep it from bleeding too badly. He hadn’t even spared a thought for the Konti. She would either fight and live or fight and die trying.

That was a worry for another time though.

The black haired Tempest cast all other thoughts aside and advanced towards the man. The bandit’s eyes widened as he saw Kel move forward, trident in hand and he fumbled for the weapon at his side, trying to keep the weight off his foot at the same time. He managed to draw it and hold the sword in front of him.

Kel’s blue eyes zeroed in on his prey, a feral look coming across his face, his animalistic nature coming alive. Fighting wasn’t just something he did; it was a way of life for him. It was who he was. He lived and breathed it. Even injuries couldn’t keep him from it. Kill or be killed. And he’d be petched if he let some no life take it away from him.

The bandit swung his sword down as Kel came within range, trying to get a lucky shot in as he balanced himself on the tree. Kel batted the strike away with his trident, a stab of pain radiating up his side at the motion, but he forced it out of his mind. The man hastily brought his sword back around and attempted to stab his opponent through the gut, trying to force him back.

Kel sidestepped, grunting as he stumbled on the uneven ground, jarring his wound once again. He was usually much more observant to his surroundings when in combat, but his mind was clouded and he wasn’t thinking very clearly.

Before the bandit had time to retract his weapon and attack again, Kel grunted in pain and swung the butt of his trident up and around towards the man’s head.

The blunt end connected soundly with the thug’s temple, smashing his head to the side.

Right into the trunk of the tree.

The double blow sent the bandit reeling back and he lost his balance as his injured foot instinctively moved to catch himself, causing him to collapse when he tried putting weight on it. He hit the ground and lay there stunned, fighting unconsciousness, hand still gripping his sword.

Kel spat in distaste as he advanced once again on his adversary, his weapon held loosely in one hand, sweat coating his naked torso. The man finally came around, becoming aware of his surrounding and the approaching doom that took form as the tattooed Svefra. A look of fear sprung into the downed man's eyes and he tried scrambling backwards, dragging his bloodied foot behind him.

“No p-please…don’t hurt m-me…we didn’t mean to hurt y-you…we…we just wanted to scare you…”

Fire flickered in the Laviku blessed eyes, the dark blues flecks of ice. Kel spun his trident so the three blades pointed towards the dirt and he jabbed it into the ground, pinning the retreating man’s baggy pants to the ground, efficiently immobilizing him. The rope, that tied the pants to the man's waist, was too tight to allow him to slip out of them. Even if he managed, the fabric would catch onto his injured foot and cause exceeding amounts of pain. The outlaw wasn’t going anywhere.

Kel nodded his head up and down slowly as he let go of the shaft of the trident. He moved over to his discarded kukri and gingerly bent down to retrieve it, a flash of pain causing him to wince. Blood rushed to his head as he bent down and he almost passed out but sheer willpower kept that from happening.

He was going to regret all of this on the morrow.

The injured warrior moved back over to the bandit, who had meanwhile been wrestling to free himself while the Svefra was away. Kel lifted the curved blade and ran a finger over the razor sharp metal, inspecting it closely, ignoring the man, his attention seemingly locked onto his weapon.

Finally he sighed.

“So yeh’ mean ta’ tell me, after yeh’ found yehr’ mates, dead in a clearing, yeh’ weren’t mad at all? Yeh’ thought teh’ yehr’selves, ‘we should just prance through ta’ woods and ask ‘ery one politely if they were teh’ monster responsibly for riddin’ the earth of vermin?’ And then yeh were just gonna ‘scare’ ‘em? Maybe even, ‘talk’ to ‘em?”

Kel shook his head slowly, tapping the tip of the blade against his chin, mockingly.

“Tis’ just doesn’t sound right ‘ta me.”

The Svefra bent down, eyes locked on the man, holding the shaft of the trident for balance and reached around behind him, placing the kukri against his lower back, under the black sash where it rested securely. Before the man had time to respond, Kel winced as he stood and jerked the trident free.

“But I think of me self as a decent guy ‘n maybe yeh’ were tellin’ teh’ truth. So I’ll be givin’ yeh’ one chance.”

The man looked up at Kel shocked, unsure whether or not the Svefra was telling the truth or not. He clearly didn’t trust the Tempest but he also wanted to escape as fast as he could. Uncertainty was written all over his face.

Kel just lifted one eyebrow, waiting for a response. A dark smile tugged at the corners of Kel’s otherwise passive face. He had no intentions of letting the man go. But he assumed the man wouldn’t go without trying to get his revenge somehow. And when he did, he might as well have just signed his own death warrant. It was a game to the Svefra. A very, very dangerous game.

Finally, the bandit came to a decision and he scrambled to his feet. He started to hop off, when he remembered something; his friend.

“Sven?”

The man looked around for the first time, casting his gaze about the woods for his friend, having realized he hadn’t been paying much attention to anyone other than his opponent. His eyes rested on the Konti before slowly shifting towards the forest floor where his friend lay unmoving.

Kel could see a turmoil of emotions work its way through the man until he finally settled on one: rage.

A roar burst from the man’s lips and he half charged, half limped towards Alaia, sword held high.

Grip tightening on the shaft of the trident, Kel prepared to intercept the enraged man and end his attack. But something stilled his hand. He wanted to see how the Konti responded. Maybe she would impress him.

Everyone Likes A Bad Boy [Alaia]

Alaia hadn’t caught the conversation between the Kel and the man he had been occupied with, the only thing she knew was one minute she was looking up to see if Kel was okay and the next the other bandit was roaring and charging right at her. His limp gave her time to think, barely but just enough that she pushed herself from the tree she had been resting upon and she faced him with wide eyes but her jaw set. Fear clawed at her intestines but she wanted to live more then she wanted to be hacked up by the man who meant to kill her over his fallen friend. There was no time to explain that this Sven was just unconscious and that he would wake in time, he wouldn’t listen even if she had to time to explain she was sure.

Alaia moved forward to meet him rather than look around to see if Kel would help. The man’s sword came up on a swing but his balance on his good foot faltered and she used her small height to dip to the other side at the same time. There was no intention other than avoiding the swinging arm and scraping him with her suvai to give him the same practically harmless fate as his friend. Unfortunately for her and for him her suvai didn’t strike his side where she had aimed because he had chosen that moment to lurch towards her mid battle swing and her suvai sunk into his gut up to the hilt.

The Konti’s eyes widened in complete horror and as the weight of the male fell and her suvai slid out of his flesh with a sickening slurp she watched the shock and pain in his eyes. His fear drenched her and she fell to her knees with him as she watched the life fade in his gaze unable to look away. The look in his eyes was like nothing she could have imagined, this wasn’t the look of someone sick accepting death but it was the look of fear and murder. She had just murdered a man, bandit or not he was dead because of her weapon and there was nothing she could do about it.

Stunned to silence the healer paused only for a moment before she leaned to the side and wretched the sparse contents in her stomach, throwing up into the blood soaked grass. Her body shook and the vomit burned her throat, the stench of the blood only making her wretch again and her pale skin growing even lighter in coloring. Tears streaked down her face, whether from the actual puking or from the revulsion she was feeling from her own actions it would be unclear even to her. With her eyes clamped shut she dry heaved again and again, her vision filled with the fear in the man’s eyes as he knew death was claiming him. What did I do? Oh Rak’keli what did I just do?
“Oh goddess…” she finally uttered and slowly she began to pull herself away from the blood and the vomit, the combined smells making it impossible for her to stop feeling her stomach contract with nothing to expel. “…oh goddess.”

Alaia forced her gaze away from the dead man and instead she found her suvai, she lifted it trying to wipe the blood off on her blood soaked tunic to no avail. The attempt was foolish, her dirty clothes were not going to clean the weapon of the damage it had inflicted but she tried anyways as it gave her something to focus on that wasn’t the man. She felt herself becoming numb, shock setting in and vaguely she was aware of standing up on shaking legs. Her blue eyes were rimmed with red from crying and the ends of her long hair were caked in the blood from when she had been leaning over the ground gagging.
“Kel.” She spoke in a hoarse voice and she looked up, searching for him until she found him “We should..” She paused, her eyes pleading him with her words “…can we go?”

Anywhere but there would be perfect to the healer, she couldn’t heal the man she killed and she couldn’t stay where they currently were standing. She needed to go, she needed to wash the blood off her and she needed to make sure Kel was okay. She took a moment to look him over and make sure he was no worse for wear then he had been before the men showed up, her heart hurt. She never remembered her heart ever hurting before and it was everything she could do to embrace the numbness that was flooding her veins just so she didn’t break down crying. Even with the knowledge that she ended a man’s life part of her was aware that Kel still needed tending and they couldn’t stay there incase more were coming.
“Please.”She finally added while moving to pick up her backpack with shaking hands, this time she didn’t put the suvai back into the pack and instead kept it tight in her hand.
