Four Leaf Clover [Pt.1]

69th of Spring 514AV

The Pig's Foot Tavern - what was Sunberth without it, just another decrepit hole that some deity or royalty forgot to cover when they were done cleansing their bowels - Seng digressed as he sat amidst the embrace of the tavern, a tankard in one hand and all his problems in the other.

It was the copious sounds of the this place that drew in even the most prominent of patriots, the clatter and madness of it all brought about a great warmth and fervour that only Sunberth could create. Yet it was the drunken sounds of one individual that drew attention, and the whores at his sides weren't doing much but bring about more attention to him...

"Gods!, Yer should hav' seen it, gold the size of mountains, it gleamed and spoke 'hat evening as I stood there guarding it" the perish said with knots of spit and mead spewing from his mouth vehemently -

As the irritable strings of the dark skinned warrior strung he stopped his wandering, his eyes moved with a subtle inquisition towards the figure of the man that had entered a bell before him. His table was littered with food and drink, winking miza's by him - It was a burly man, his features were rugged as if he'd been ravaged by winter and battle, a stocky figure adored with chain mail and leather armour. A great auburn beard rooted from his chin and fell as chunks of meant and the glitter of alcohol winked in the candlelit tavern.

To Seng he was someone he'd either find roaming the outskirts of Sunberth or in cities like Nyka doing mercenary work. At his lap, two of Brega's girls exalted his arrogance and lust as they caressed, laughed and giggled at everything he said.

It wasn't the older mercenary's actions that had actually drawn Seng's attention, the mountainous pouch that laid sprawled out on the man's table what had, from its depressed mouth coins seemed to be vomited out as very bulk of the thing bleed gold at the sides, even the stitches that kept it together strained from the amount accumulated.

A feigned giggle from one of the girls drew the Vilhjalmr's attention as the mercenary kneaded her cleavage drunkenly. Senghor turned and looked around the tavern and looked as the other men and potential thieves salivated at the sight before them, surprisingly nobody had tried to snatch the parish's gold, maybe the giant axe poking slyly into the table had something to do with it.

"BASTARDS the shit lot of em but 'hey sure do pay! - Yer know, Am from Nyka myself but I sure got paid, I've be sittin' pretty for bout the whole season now" the said again with a roar of excitement. This seemed to cause Seng's very ears to twitch in intrigue, a guard job that paid like this.

"I wonder who's hiring" he spoke to himself as he watched the mercenary entertain himself with Brega's Girls. Senghor had to admit, he needed the work and whoever was hiring and paying such a large sum of gold just to guard a place was surely his type of employer and he was definitely the right employee.

It didn't take long for the brash mercenary to stand from his seat, his tankard still in had as he walked up to the simulated guard.

"A drink, to your earnings" deeply the voice of Senghor slipped from his tongue as he kicked up a chair and sat before the older man. A great silence hung between them as he looked at Senghor cautiously, confusedly, intriguedly...

"Gods man!, what'd did yer parents feed ye!" he asked taken aback by the tall, lean stature of Senghor who only seemed to lean back into the shadows, the effect of them seemed to play a smirk on man as he replied.

"Steak... And babies" he said with a dark baritone to his voice, he watched at the three figures before him eyes opened slowly before the guards expression turned into a great big grin, than a smile and than laugh that echoed deafeningly within the Pig's Foot.

"Hahahaha! It done yer good than boy!" he said to Seng's joke as he stretched out his hand towards him, "Elrich! Elrich Gerulf!"

"Nassor, Nassor Vilhjalmr" Senghor lied as he told the name of his predecessor, the man's eyes shifted with uncertainty before they turned soft and he laughed, "Nice to meet yer Nassor!"

"Likewise..." Senghor said as he looked down at the table before him, he could see why the man was so easily fooled. After a dozen tankards of ale, it was miracle that the old bastard was still on his feet, but that also meant that his tongue was wet and he'd be 'gladly' willing to share some information with Seng...

"So Elrich... Let's talk"

Four Leaf Clover [Pt.1]

"The sheer size of it man!, this big!!" Elrich said with his arms outstretched, a clear exaggeration of what he might of seen, his giddy movement almost causing one of the girls on his lap to lose balance and fall on her head.

A furnace of laughter burst from the perish as his meaty hand fell onto a whole chicken, his teeth and beard tearing into the tender flesh of the food as he looked up at Senghor, "Eat yer Sunberthian bastard, Eat, hahahaha!!"

"No thanks... Now, who did you say was paying for these jobs?" the inquiring Senghor asked with a lightened mood as Elrich tore barbarically once more into the chicken, his greasy hand back onto the tankard and down it seemed to go.

"Ja.. Jac.. Aye, some arse called Jacobs!" he howled with a rattle of the table as his fist fell onto the wood, emptied cups and half eaten plates scattered as he brought up his hand and shouted.

"Barmaid!, Over here yer fussoc!" he flagged one of the barmaid, presumably Elisa. Seng furrowed in wonder as he looked at the mercenary before him.

Jacobs - the name had a bit of a ring to it but it was probably an alias and from what what Elrich had told Seng, the bastard had stockpiled on valuables in some warehouse somewhere. A puff of air left the confines of Seng's lips as he turned his head to the side at the looming figure of one the barmaid, a tray with food and ale.

"I admire your stomach Elrich, you feed it all this food and you're still standing" complimented Seng, the older man's featured turned into that of a child as he lit up with joy and blooming laughter.

"First I eat, than it's off to fuckin' for ol' Elrich" he said with pride in his voice as his hand kneaded onto one of the prostitutes rear mounds, an giddy giggle left her lips as she swooned the man, probably gonna suck him dry later - both ways too.

"Where can I find this Jacobs?" he asked with a gulp of his own tankard as his eyes pierced the greyed globes of the mercenary before him, "Nev' seen the man miself, but his right hand man's the one yer've gott's to talk too" Elrich replied with another unceremonious burp.

"And where can I find this right-hand man...?" he slurred his words inquiringly as he watched the drunkard compose himself, "Yusis!, that's the bastards name... Fuckin' arse spends most of his time at Brega's" he said vehemently as he teased himself with his muses for the evening.

"Yusis... These 'arses' affiliated with anyone we know?" he asked, whoever these thugs were it seemed that they were sitting on gold and promptly giving it away, easy pickings for work it seemed but with the current events with the Daggerhands, Senghor had to remain as cautious as anyone else these men would be former, or allied Daggerhands and Senghor wasn't willing to go up against a general... Yet.

Elrich paused on the question for a moment and seemed to shake his head "Nye, not that I know of..."

Senghor seemed a bit at ease by the idea of the man's position, his future employer was already sounding like someone worth working for...

Seng was liking what he was hearing from Elrich, what the man was saying was settling too well with him and that was what he liked with his work, working for men that put gold in his pockets and didn't ask questions.

"I'm liking this man already my friend" said Seng, "Cheers to that!!" Elrich howled as he raised his tankard in a drunken stir that caused the whores on his lap to fall off.

An uproar of laughter left that the foreigner when he looked down at his investment for the night and back at Seng, the tall mercenary leaned back in his seat and drank his own tankard. With the information that he'd gathered at that moment it seemed that his soon to be employers were sitting on a payload that came from someone or somewhere, where they'd found this payload was a mystery in itself at that piqued the desert borne mercenaries interest and with ol' Elrich there spilling secrets like a drunk informant, it could hurt to probe a bit more into the men's sordid wealth.

"So Elrich, before I leave..." he said, watching as the large man pause with his escorts for a moment and turning towards Senghor, "Where'd you say these men got all this gold?"

"Blergh!, gods condemn me if I know!" he said with a shrug of his shoulders, so it seemed that that they weren't spilling any secrets, all they wanted were guards to do a job, sit around all day and night and guard a door.

"How many men are currently in their employ?" Senghor asked looking at the Elrich hound on his meat barbarically. It didn't take long for him to come up with a number of how much he thought they were, "Bout, 20... 20 good men, train'd to kill a man 'ithout a chime of thinkin'" the man wasn't clearly a mathemartian, but he made a good point.

Senghor estimated that they would be ranging in the 10-15 range, but 15-20 meant that the men were serious with whatever they were guarding. 20 men that were trained to kill without a second thought, Senghor had some stiff competition it seemed.

Turning back to Elrich with a smirk, the dark-skinned mercenary downed the last of his drink and held up the empty cup "Well my friend, looks like I'm out, cheers to you and all your ventures" he said as he stood up, "Aye!, yer fussock..." Elrich hissed when he saw Seng reach into his pockets.

"I'mma rich man now, I pay! - Hahahahaha" he boomed strongly as his hands dug into his pouch and gold seemed to slip from his meaty fingers like water. The smirk on Seng's lips was one both smug and envious, he couldn't contest with the man's wealth nor did he want too. If he wanted to pay for their little drink and he didn't mind, than so be it.

"Next time, I'll be paying" said the tall mercenary as he looked over at Elrich who steeled his gaze for a few ticks and than burst out laughing, Senghor soon followed with a chuckle and the men exchanged a subtle goodbye that way.

"Aye!, next time pay for me whores too!" boomed Elrich as he watched Senghor slip out the tavern. Senghor strolled down the streets of Sunberth once again with a new objective for the coming days.

First some sleep, than some work - he thought as he slipped once against into the ominous darkness that was the Sunset Quarters...
