Appearance: Grad stands five feet and ten inches tall and weighs a little under a hundred seventy pounds. He has average sized, oval eyes that shift between a hazel and a dark green. His hair is a darker brown and Grad keeps himself cleaned up well, unless he is on a job that requires some form of disguise. As for clothing, Grad keeps himself in plain clothes so as to avoid sticking out in crowds, preferably something darker to make it easier to hide in the shadows.
Character ConceptGrad is a sneaking type with a mercenary background. He is incredibly cunning, and has a variety of methods that he has acquired that make him even more valuable as a spy. Due to his former spying Grad has acquired a few more traits to help him on his way: He is somewhat an acrobat, can figure his way around a lock, and knows some basics about sneaking. While in his mercenary work he encountered very few situations where he was personally endangered, Graderson is still mildly familiar with hand-to-hand combat and archery, mostly from training.
Personally, Grad is an interesting character. He is no one-way thief, and is not merely out for the upper hand in life. He, unlike most of his craft, choose the shadows because it was what he knew well, not out of laziness or greed. He, however, is no exemplar, and wonders if a righteous yet oppressive group is any better than one driven by less moral means. Grad values freedom and experience more than anything else.
Grad, first and foremost, has a strong feeling of loyalty to his morals and to the people close to him. He is, however, for the most part easy going, and has shown himself to be clever in dialogue, flirtatious, and empathetic to those he’s crossed. His loyalty also means he can be quite adamant, and, while it helps when he’s right, he has gotten himself into a few sticky situations because of his inability to shut his lip.
Character HistoryGrad was born in Zeltiva and was left on an orphanage porch the forty-second of Winter in four hundred eighty-eight AV. He was adopted by an old woman as a toddler and was raised by her until she died when he was six. Grad was then brought in by her nephew, a well-off knight in Syliras, who cared for Grad for the rest of his childhood. Grad squired with the city’s knights and was considered an exemplar student, a title Grad grew to resent because he hardly worked himself and often thought it was just luck that he stood out from all the other knights. Grad eventually rose to the point where he was being considered for knighthood, and was sure he would become a knight himself. It wasn’t until Grad was on the outside of the city walls the day of his Knightly Quest that he decided he wasn’t going to be a knight. He hitched a ride on a caravan out of town that was then ambushed. Everyone else had been killed, but Grad (who had sold off his equipment for the ride) had killed one of the raiders with his bear hands. Impressed, the mercenary leader offered Grad an ultimatum: Life as a mercenary, or death. Over the next few years Grad underwent intelligence training and became a skilled scout for the company. It wasn’t until years later that the mercenaries had been bought out by a larger faction. Afraid of what the takeover might be like, Galvin fled camp in the night and headed for nearby Sunberth.

Heirloom: A quiver Grad had made as a squire. It was originally meant to be for a Syliran Knight but the knight perished shortly before it was finished. Grad finished his project and it ended up being the only keepsake he kept from knighthood. As it was originally intended for a full grown man, the quiver is still useful to Grad to this day.
