Alyra laughed. Unfortunately, that laugh sounded more like a wheeze than anything else. That, in turn, only made her want to laugh more. It was a vicious circle. Alyra would laugh, she'd wheeze, then she'd wheeze and laugh again.
"I'm fine," Alyra said when she was done laughing at herself. "Don't worry about it." That idea apparently didn't settle well with Hirem.
He hobbled over, struggling to lift her up. Alyra swatted at the air between them in a weak protest. Though she knew she needed help, she could see that Hirem wasn't in the best shape either. Alyra didn't want to be a burden on the already struggling man. "It's not your fault." Alyra began to protest as she sat up, pulling her bag around her shoulders as Hirem acted as a crutch. She initially planned on asking to walk on her own, but she dropped the idea as she was lifted off of her feet; Alyra was admittedly a selfish creature, and being carried felt far too good in her current state. "I've never really done this before, and I should've warned you bout that."
Alyra shrugged in response to his question. Initially, combat training was just a means to an end. Once the Eth became a Kuvan, then she would happily keep her distance from combat. Hirem did, however, bring up a good point. If Syna's will brought her to Riverfall, then it would probably go without saying that Syna foresaw combat in Alyra's future.
"I want to earn my place inside the city, and learning how to fight is the only obstacle in my way." Alyra shrugged as she added: "Well, that and my unemployment."
"Syna has brought me to Riverfall, the city of warriors and hard-workers. That must mean she is either trying to get me to become some kind of fighter, or she is commenting on my work ethic. I'd like to think it's the first one," Alyra chuckled briefly. "But you never know..."
Alyra turned her head, searching for Nash. When she found him dawdling a few feet behind them, she clicked her tongue loudly. It was a sound that Alyra had heard others use to call their dogs or speed up their horses, so she figured Nash would get the message. It wasn't done in vain, though the call didn't have the desired effect: Nash looked up excitedly, but he didn't catch up. Alyra rolled her eyes, and draped her arm over Hirem's. After Alyra playfully flicked her wrist, Nash began to bound towards her. He jumped up, grabbing ahold of her sleeve. The cat did what cats do best and scaled her arm. With Nash now resting in her arms, Alyra felt at ease.
"What sort of journey do you have planned?"
