Aranta smiled as he felt the cool dusk breeze blow through his fur as he flew; he'd left Kalinor behind a little ways ago, and while he would be returning there later, for now, he wanted to explore. He hadn't seen much of the world outside of the immediate surroundings of his family's colony and Symenestra, and that was nowhere near enough to satisfy the curiosity awoken by the slaves his family had kept. They'd told stories of the outside world, and Aranta had found himself growing desperate to see more of the world they'd spoken about, despite the fact that his parents-- and pretty much every other Zith who knew about his desire-- warned him that outsiders did not welcome Zith. They feared Zith, in fact-- in some places, they said, Zith were openly hunted.
That had not deterred Aranta, however, and his first stop had been Symenestra. The spider-people were interesting, but Aranta wanted to know even more-- he wanted to know everything.
Focus, Aranta reminded himself, opening his eyes and focusing on his flight again, looking for a place to land. Must not let guard down.
He found a place to land, and bared his teeth in a smirk when he saw that a small herd of mountain goats had taken up residence in the clearing for the night. Circling overhead to pick out his prey-- Aranta was no experienced hunter and he didn't fancy the look of some of the horns on a few of them-- Aranta hesitated for only long enough to draw his hunting knife to use in addition to his claws before diving.
His intended target was a young kid-- situated closer to the middle, but with space enough that Aranta could swoop and grab, taking off with it before the rest of the goats knew what was happening. That was exactly what happened, and Aranta was quick to silence the soon-to-be-food's terrified bleating with his knife. He circled overhead while the herd ran about in terror and confusion before finally taking off out of the clearing, and then Aranta landed, and then frowned at the kid. Killing it had gone successfully, but he hadn't exactly planned on how he was going to eat it-- he didn't fancy picking fur out of his teeth.
