Solo Nightfall: The Rise of the Underworld

Journey to the Underworld's criminals.

This lazy agricultural settlement rests on the swampy shores of the Middle Suvan at the delta of The Kenash River. The River's slow moving bayou waters have bred a different sort of people - rugged, cultured, and somewhat violent. Sprawling plantations of tobacco and cotton grow on the outskirts of the swamp in the rich Cyphrus soils, while the city itself curls around the bayou and spawns decadence and sins of all sorts. Life is slower in Kenash, but the lack of pace is made up for in the excesses of food and flesh in a city where drinking, debauchery, gambling, slavery, and overbearing plantation families dominate the landscape.

Nightfall: The Rise of the Underworld

Summer 39, 514

Nightfall. Darkness. The end of a hard days work, for most, yet not for the inhabitants of the underworl. Filled with all kinds of people, whom loyal citizens of Kenash would call "The Scum of the Earth!" these criminals frequented the dark alleyways at the dawn of nightfall. While all loyal citizes were sleeping, these had just begun their working hours. Using moonlight as their sunlight, they had adapted to stealing, murdering, and thievery in order to make a living. They only feared each other and the consequences of failing a job. In short, Kenash was not a good place to be in the darkest hours of a day.

Yet, Jacques found himself commiting the worst mistake any seasoned citizen of Kenash knew, never venturing into the slums of Kenash at night and rarely during the daylight hours. Because a source had told Jacques that he would find information regarding the deaths of his parents, Jacques had left te safety of his house in order to meet an infomant who supposedly had information. Walking along a road deeper into the city, Jacques observed men sculking in the shadows, women parading their bodies at the street corners, and the eyes of each person watching his every move. Soon, shadows seemed to look as if they would jump out and ensnare Jacques at any moment. Not a coward, Jacques would never back down from a challenge, even if it meant risking his life. Gripping the hilt of his dagger even tighter, Jacques was tense ad prepared for anything that might go awry.

The women on the block began strutting over to Jacques; sashaying their hips, and leaving little to immagination they approached Jacques. At first, they seemed shy, ironic because of their assumed profession, when the first lady spoke up. Dressed in a dress filled with lace and ribbon, her ebony skin glistened in the moonlight. Dropping down barely to her hips, Jacques feared that at any moment the dress would come undone and slip from her shouders. Standing at barely five feet, the woman was gazing up at Jacques with lust in her eyes.

Addressing Jacques, she whispered while she winked, "Sir, are you in need of our… Services? We are always interested in, err, new customers."
"No thank you, ladies." Jacques replied trying not to stare, when out of the corners of hia eyes he saw two men advancing towards him.

Nightfall: The Rise of the Underworld

"Boy, Hwat you doin' wit' our girls?" the first man yelled in a drunken stupor at Jacques."Get away fom my girl. Now. Or we might have us some trouble on our hands! Whaddaya say Nash?" the drunken man said to his partener.
"Oh. We gonna 'ave us some trouble. Right here." Nash replied beginningto clench and unclench his fists into tight, little balls.

Jacques stood there still determining his course of action when suddenly, the first drunken man ran forward. He was obviously bent on causing a ruckus in the course of "defending" his lady. His dagger was out in a flash and the men either were too drunk to see it, or they just didn't care. Although Jacques knew he could easily fatally wound these men, he decided that it would be better just to knock them out with as little pain as possible. Dropping the dagger in his sheeth, Jacques began channeling Djed from other parts of his body directly to his fists in order to get as much power in his first two punches as possible.

Energy mixed with pure adrenaline ran through Jaques's veins. His body was tense, muscles relaxed, as he prepared for anything that might be thrown his way. Nothing was going to stop Jacques from finding the man who supposedly had info about his parents. Jacques relaxed his mind, eyes searching from side to side alert about any move about to be made by his "opponnents" Crouching, Jacques shifted his neckfrom one side to another as if motioning to his opponents telling them to come at him.

Advancing on either side of Jacques,he knew that now would be the confrontation. His fists were at his side, knees crouched, eyes watching the drunken men like a hawk. The first man who was either courageous or stupid struck first. Attempting to pummel Jacques's face with a variety of uppercuts and punches, Jacques deflected the first punch and knocked the man off-balance by rolling to the side with the man's arm locked between his two arms. With the first man laying on the ground, Jacques quickly pinned his arms to the ground. Writhing beneath him, the drunkard began yelling for his fried to come to his aid.

Slowly, the other drunk walked forward, obviously surprised by the speed and agility with which Jacques laid his friend out on the ground. Before he could reach Jacques, though, Jacques had already knocked the fellow drunk out with a punch directly to the forhead. Wanting revenge, the other drunk named Nash, stumbled forward in a slow, haphazard fashion.

Swaying from side to side, the man said, "Now. If you leave slow and quiet-like, then I might have a little mercy on you. Jus' walk away slowly now."

In a brief bout of courage, the man pointed his fingers at Jacques and made a motion with them that seemed tosay, "Come at me!" Jacques did just that. Before the man could react, Jacques was right up beside him prepared to knock him out in an instant. He momentarily lapsed in concentration when he saw the women walking on,away from him. In that second, thedrunk punched Jacques in the gut, doubling him over

"Why the hard way?" Jacques yelled in the man's face. He was in shock after being pummeled with the mans fists, and his stomache hurt. Gasping for air, he felt like a fish out of water. Blinded with pain, Jacques struck with his hand, no object in sight. Sensing his opponent behind him, he launched his fist. Like lightning, it flashed before the drunken man's eyes, but instead of thunder, all that could be heard was the sound of flesh upon flesh. Dropping like a bag of rocks, Jacques turned around realizing that he had overcome his opponent.

Running from the sight of his ambsh, Jacques feared that he might miss the meeting. As a Competent Morpher, Jacques was used to morphing into various animals forms. With this well-honed skill and his need to not be late, Jacques transformed his legs into those of a horse, Galloping full-sped ahead,Jacques was positive that he was either Waking people up or he had already. Racing into the seedier districts of town, Jacques still saw people watching him from the shadows..

The meeting was planed to be at the corner of an avnue in the center of Kenash. Jacques was already there, waiting in human form, when he heard footsteps behing him. Whirling around Jacques saw nothing but the shifting shadows.

Shadows. Deep Dark Shadows. Neither moonlight nor starlight could penetrate shadows this deep. Jacques had no idea what was going on. It seemed as if some sort of Magic was at work in this place. Evil cackling filled the air, at least that is what it seemed like to Jacques. Fear flooded his system. His breathing became laboured. He found it hard to even keep his eyes open. All he wanted to do was run. Hide. Get away from this terror inside of him, yet there was nothing he could do. Every step felt as if he were lifting twice his weight. His muscles felt like jelly, and there was nothing he could do about it. No sort of combat training classes had prepared him for this.

Suddenly, Jacques began to sob. From the brute terror that was rising up from within him. His body was screaming run, but his mind and his muscles were saying otherwise. Falling to the ground, Jacques began to hear a voice in his mind.

"You shall not escape me this time! Consider this a warning! Leave now, and never come back!" he eerie voice cried in his mind.Jacques was frightened. Never before had he experienced the affects of hypnotism. As suddenly as it had started, it ended. The mist cleared, and the moonlight returned, illuminating the alleyway. Still, Jacques saw nobody inthe alleyway who could have hypnotized him.

The voice had terrorized Jacques. For the first time in his life,he had truly feared something. One day, he hoped to delve deeper into his past and find out about the fate of his parents

I'm sorry, but this thread cannot continue as is. There are a number of key points that show me that you did not properly read the codex to learn about the city you're playing in.

I'll list them one by one :)

  1. First of all, there are no slums in the city of Kenash. All of Kenash proper is very nice as a whole and frankly, not very many people live in the city proper, which eliminates shoddy housing.
  2. What's the 'underworld'? There is no underworld in Kenash.
  3. Prostitutes do not congregate in the city. There are pleasure slaves, but they are confined into buildings such as the Caged Sun.
  4. You made no mention as to where the djed from the Flux is being directed from. While not directly related to the city, this bothers me. While you're reading up on Kenash, please read on the Flux again. Feel free to ask me questions, if you'd like. I play a Fluxist PC :)
  5. "Jacques was already there, waiting in human form, when he heard footsteps behing him. Whirling around Jacques saw nothing but the shifting shadows." < - This confuses me. In human form? Is Jacques a Kelvic? Your CS states that you are a human.

Please consider these and edit the thread before posting further.

Thank you,

Vice.
