60th of Summer 514AV
The sun was going down, and Leth’s light would soon be shining down upon him. He couldn’t believe he’d been here all afternoon. Work had just been tough. He’d found himself so out of it, and had managed to jab himself with the needle far too many times, and he’d made a lot of clumsy mistakes. He did love his work. It was surprisingly artistic, making garments. Especially for women, they could get away with so much more. He’d crafted a simple long sleeved Shirt that he’d left hanging on a rock while he’d swum earlier. It was too simple for his liking, but he didn’t really want to wear anything that would make him stand out. But the fabric was beautiful and soft, and it breathed. It was lightly reminiscent of what he used to wear when he was with his family, if a little duller.
His bad mood wasn’t because of anything in particular. He just had bad days. Everyone he worked with knew this, and were fairly nice about it, as long as he did eventually get the work done. Sometimes he could just picture his pod members, or his Tavan swimming up to meet him. The illusions were so real that they actually brought tears to his eyes.
His hair was still wet from swimming, and he still had his shirt off. He sat in the mouth of a shallow cave while he dried off and watched the sun go down. Swimming was always nice, but only when he could be alone with Laviku. He’d command small schools of colorful fish to swarm around him and swim with them. Sometimes he’d just face his back to the bottom of the sea and float there. He used to swim everyday with Yarrow. It was his face he remembered most from his last few days at sea. He had faith that they were all alive. Laviku wouldn’t have let them die. Afterall, He’d saved the most useless of them all.
It was exhausting, remembering all of this. Meredith could feel himself slipping away against the cool cave wall. He was falling asleep, where he could be with his loved ones. But dreams turned sour for him most every time he fell asleep. He was the only one he knew of, apart from Ana, who cried while they were unconscious. The skinny young man looked so pitiful laying there in the cave, tears leaving trails down his cheeks.
His scars were on full display because there was no one to gawk at them. Laviku’s mark was on his right wrist and seemed to be moving in time with the waves that crash upon the shore. In his dream, all he ever saw was the moment everyone he loved disappeared. He never dreamed of when they were alive. So he was restless when he slept, crying, clenching and unclenching his fists, grating his teath, and saying things like “Laviku… save me… Laviku…Save Yarrow…I love…him” Then later, when he dreamt of Ana, his face grew angry “How could you… just give up…”
These dreams were going to be the death of him, and they were getting worse again. Though in this case, it might just be the place he’d decided to fall asleep was too reminiscent, and far too uncomfortable. “Save me” He muttered in his sleep. The sun had gone down completely now, yet still he slept on.
