23rd Fall, AV 510
Artos had the foresight to change into his human forms a few miles back up the road from the gate. It would give him time to reallocate to the weight and form of the body he'd be using for a time. Coming up to the gate he felt out of place, the few times he had entered it had been as an escort to a merchant. At the time he got in without having to really say much, the merchant talking for him as had always been the normal manner.
Taking a deep breath he would look up at the sky a moment, it couldn't be past 14 bells and there was still plenty of day for him to find lodging and food. With his right hand he would lightly brush the hilt of the survival knife on his belt. While it might seem an aggressive gesture it was really just a mental security of being prepared. With a bit of a stretch he would walk up to the gate and give a nod to the guards.
Both of the guards had seen him a ways off, which in reality would be a difficult thing not to do at his size. They had both an interest to take a closer look at him if not for his size then for his rough appearance. Though who wouldn't be rough after traveling the wilds alone, even if they were a bear.
"Afternoon, name and purpose?" The tone was friendly enough but the eyes were very clearly in a state of concern. The way the hand shifted slightly on his equipment told more of his thoughts that his words had.
"Artos, food, supplies, a bed and work," the tone came out flat, and his face remained almost uninterested.
The guard who had asked the question cocked an eye at the monotone reply. Without saying anything he'd point at the bag Artos carried in his hand rather than using over his back. Without any need to ask meaning he would open and hand the mostly empty bag to the man.
While looking in the bag the man commented in a way Artos' hadn't expected, "Kelvic huh?" Without looking up he answered the question lingering from coming out of Artos' mouth, "It's the eyes. Don't worry though, your kind have no natural issues here as long as you follow the rules."
The guard would receive a nod in return for the words when the bag was returned to its owner. The man would then give him a quick jot of instructions on how to arrive at areas that would possibly lead to fulfilling Artos' purpose in coming. Artos' would place a hand on the fellows shoulder and give him a gentle smile before walking through the gates and with luck into a new chapter of his life.
