This lazy agricultural settlement rests on the swampy shores of the Middle Suvan at the delta of The Kenash River. The River's slow moving bayou waters have bred a different sort of people - rugged, cultured, and somewhat violent. Sprawling plantations of tobacco and cotton grow on the outskirts of the swamp in the rich Cyphrus soils, while the city itself curls around the bayou and spawns decadence and sins of all sorts. Life is slower in Kenash, but the lack of pace is made up for in the excesses of food and flesh in a city where drinking, debauchery, gambling, slavery, and overbearing plantation families dominate the landscape.

The dance floor was filling up. Adelaide danced first with her Uncle, who left not long after to discuss business with a member of the Radacke Dynasty, then with Novak Draer (who had dressed himself up as some sort of King of Cats... she rather liked it and likewise liked his compliment to the supposed realism of her ship hat, which she supposed he knew much of in his capacity as Svefra) then with a slightly drunken Paille then, in order to drag him away from a potential fight with one of the few freeborn in attendance, a handsome Konrath Akalak who left her blushing.

Breaking away reluctantly, the young Sitai was about to announce one of the more extravagant entertainment acts of the evening when she was called over by the doorman to deal with an issue of a Freeborn trying to get into the party. A tick later, and ten mizas richer (Adelaide wondered if she should have asked for more) the Freeborn and his wild costume had made a discreet entrance and Adelaide was able to present the first all-around entertainment to her guests.

"Ladies, Gentlemen and those who are still undecided," she laughed, "You may think a man, or a woman, can not fly. Tonight, I hope you see many things that challenge notions of what is and is not possible so I will start with this act. And I hope you will agree that their activities will prove you wrong."

With that, the lights dimmed slightly and lit up one of the central trees. A dozen acrobats dressed as birds leapt out and immediately started tumbling and swinging around the trunk of the tree. Only to the keenest eye did their tricks look like anything other than magic, the act of human beings floating and swooping through the air, since only the keenest eye would be able to see the thin lines attached to the birds' ankles and waists. After the initial bursting out of the tree, they settled into a fast, rhythmic sort of aerial dance. First, they coupled up into pairs and pretended to ballroom dance through the air before breaking up and performing a series of impressive acrobatic tricks... six women cartwheeling, somersaulting then jumping as six men dived between their legs in an elegant line, before they all lined up and moved into one huge circle, holding hands around the trunk of the tree like a spinning star.

"Where did you find them?" whispered one awed woman with the face of a bear and a figure-hugging red dress, as her eyes remained fixed on the spectacle above

"They're a travelling troupe from Alvadas." Adelaide smiled at the unknown woman before excusing herself and moving away. It was all going very well but she wanted to make sure that no-one felt like they had to watch the whole thing. They were free to move and continue smoking or drinking, even dancing, while watching at their leisure. The young woman was about to settle herself absent-mindedly on a divan but then, remembering that she was supposed to be the hostess, shook herself, picked up a drink and walked gracefully over to a winter day complemented by a starry night - two people whom she recognised even with their costumesl: a childhood friend and a Konti detective.

"Good evening Edmund, Miss Konrath. How are you? I hope you're enjoying yourselves thus far."

Adelaide Sitai's Surrealist Soirée

Glasses clinked and signified a special kind of reunion, one grown from childhood to adulthood, the other returned from a journey of learning and epiphanies. Estrellir didn't seem different at first sight, not in a sense of wrinkles on her skin or weary bones, but she had obviously changed in habits and behavior. Compared to the Konrath of ten years ago, she'd ripened into one who knew what she wanted and wasn't afraid to take it with both hands.

She thought it amusing how his words rang true, not only concerning the Askara, but also the entire party and its theme. Absurdity grounded in reality... Indeed, if that was what Adelaide had been going for, many details stood explained. Her lips curled in appreciation of the Sitai's success.

The man in the starry suit seemed all too happy to lead her around the dance floor and towards the desired tables. Estrellir shot him a glance of knowing. While his words sounded innocent enough, his motivations were clear from his tone. He'd submit to whatever wishes she voiced for the rest of the evening... a true Morealis. This time, however, she wasn't the host or otherwise obliged to play to his words. "You'd be surprised how many weaknesses can be eliminated through practice," she offered, followed by a meaningful glance of violet eyes. She was merely playing with meanings while struggling to get an overview of various pipes and their contents laid out across the table.

Before she came to a decision, however, the lights were dimmed and the next attraction announced. Looking up with the other guests, Estrellir couldn't help but smile at acrobatic wonders that seemed to have leapt straight out of legend. "Indeed, question your reality," she whispered, words that popped up in her mind from who knew where and escaped her lips. "I'm beginning to think all of this is more than a pretty metaphor. What do you say, Mr Morealis?"

Just as she picked a relatively modest pipe spitting out opalescent smoke, the hostess appeared before them. Estrellir broke into a smile as she observed the realistic ship on Adelaide's head once more. "Here is the culprit! Let me compliment you a little... The way how you mold your attractions into the theme and create this surreal air is extraordinary. Surely, all guests will walk away enriched and enamored by this evening." She left it to Adelaide to notice the subtle edge to her tone... or not. Some who, like her, guessed the inspiration behind the theme would be tempted to judge more harshly.

Her hand curled around Edmund's arm as the other put the pipe between white lips. The first drag burned down her throat like a good shot of rum, the second was gentler. It tasted like a bag of candy and glitter.

Blue eyes met green with a gentle smirk that matched the Konti's own knowing smile. Truth be told, Edmund could hardly say that he knew Estrellir to any great degree. A decade of time had washed away parts of his memory, and it had no doubt changed them both in ways that were not physical. What better situation to be in, though, so that they may be reacquainted?

"I have firsthand experience with such circumstances," Edmund replied, taking her to the table of pipes. "If such is your inclination, then it would be my immense pleasure to practice for your sake. Perhaps for next time."

Even if Edmund's keen words were meant to sweeten further their saccharine encounter, they were not meaningless fabrications. In truth, he had intended to procure a dancing tutor for some time now, for it was an activity that would no doubt bring him nearer a few important figures. Estrellir's pleasure would be a rather rewarding additional benefit - even finer if she would learn with him. The more they saw of each other, the happier Edmund would be. Not to mention the possibility of introducing himself to other members of the Konrath family.

Once more Adelaide made an announcement, though Edmund felt that it might have perhaps been to soon since her last. Allowing guests to partake in what was offered was important, after all. There was no denying, however, that the Morealis was learning much from Adelaide's first hosting, not least of which was how much she was willing to invest in entertaining her guests. The acrobatic troupe was mightily impressive, though it did not astound Edmund as perhaps some other dynasts in the crowd. It did contribute to the flair of the theme at least.

Oh, there was most certainly plenty of metaphor within such an absurdly decorated hall. Edmund did not know which Estrellir was alluding to, however, amid the forest of meanings.
"I say that this is Adelaide being Adelaide," was his response, keeping his deeper thoughts to himself. He let the Konti withdraw her arm to retrieve her pipe of choice while he deliberated upon his own decision. "What she says here may be indicative of her desires for the political scene as a whole. I would be surprised if I were to find this all to be impersonal."

Then the hostess herself deigned to chat with them, seemingly cutting through the crowd toward them. She did not look entirely comfortable, but Edmund would not fathom the reason behind it in the interest of allowing her some sort of relief. She was no doubt under much scrutiny from her family for this event.

Letting the two women converse for a second, Edmund selected one of the pipes within the display that was slowly trailing a lightly-colored smoke into the air. The decision was based on absolutely nothing at all, since he did not know well enough which color indicated which flavor. Sitai products always seemed to be randomized. Still, one could always trust them to be sweet, for that was the flavor which induced a state of mind that fit within a party. First puff brought with it an almost sickening amount of candied taste, so much so that Edmund nearly - nearly - grimaced. The subsequent puffs were more palatable though, and even acquiring a hint of a tang that aided Edmund in keeping his mind awake if nothing else.

"You have my congratulations," Edmund offered to Adelaide once Estrellir paused to take her puff. The Konti laced her hand back into his arm, and Edmund embraced it fully. "Arranging all the components to this soiree must have been difficult, a logistical nightmare. It must be rewarding to see your guests react so positively to your efforts."
Edmund is currently suspended. Apologies!

"There is nothing to fear. You can trust me."
