Two different Spy incomes??

Postby Yisanareysin on September 18th, 2014, 3:54 pm

I noticed there were two occupations that are both labeled Spy. One, Spy/Information Broker, has the description
A spy's work is varied. They get paid per job, sometimes higher and sometimes lower. The value of the information often determines the value of the payoff. However, work is not steady, so average pay is lower.

and pays 3 GM per day

The other one has the description
There are always people wanting to gain an advantage over others. Some merchants wish to learn more about their competition and perhaps sabotage them. Governmental figures do the same. Whoever the target, when one employs another for the purpose of spying they are trading in information. (While a number of skills can aid here, Intelligence is rquired to gain access to this occupation.)

And pays 6 GM per day

Is there a difference between the two, or is it a mistake? If so, which one is correct?

Two different Spy incomes??

I will try and clear this up, if I can. I've held the second type of spy job before, and will say there is a difference between the two.

In the case of the first one, note it is called Spy/Information broker. These people for their job are mostly directly dealing in information.

Someone wants to find something out, and you either talk to the people involved, pay someone for the info, or watch them to gain it. In general its doesn't have high requirements, and about anyone could pick it up and do it, perhaps even just by listening in on conversations at a bar.

Someone might want to know who so and so's mistress is, or where X person keeps their money, or something similar.

---

In the second case though, the 6 gm base Spy job, its much more involved. Note for starters it requires intelligence xp to hold said skill. That job would involve things mentioned on that lore, amongst other things.

These people could be spying on someone over a long time period, learning their habits and actions. They could be directly interacting with these people, or around them, setting up planned meetings and testing them and their reactions, all without being noticed or it being found out said person is spying on them. They could be spying on a household, or business, ferreting out weaknesses and when it would be best to sneak in or attack, or try to rob them.

Or they could be sitting across a bar listening in on them, or becoming their best friend, or commiting counter-espionage to mislead another spy or to protect a group from being spied on, or any manner of other things.

I think the biggest difference between the two is the involvement level of the action, and the time frame in general of said jobs. I'd think with the second one, it'd lean more towards longer single jobs, than the average job in the first info broker job.

But of course that's just my take on the two.
-You can't truly appreciate the light, until you spend some time experiencing darkness...

-The more you know, the more you learn how little you truly know, and how much there is left to learn.

-Only when you truly understand the darkness, will you not fear it.

Oh, I see, that makes sense.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.
