Cream-colored fur barely conceals the fact that she's extremely underweight, especially since her coat is short. Brown stains her head, paws, and tail a deep coffee tone, lending the illusion that she's been walking in dirt. Her eyes are pale blue but intensely so, an oval of black interrupting that expands and contracts with the flow of light. The cool nose on the tip of her face twitches frequently when new smells present themselves, often accompanied by lengthy white whiskers surrounding her mouth and nose. Pink sandpaper darts in and out of her mouth through sharp canine teeth when she eats or drinks. Velvet-soft ears swivel around to face sudden sounds and are very sensitive to touch and other sensations. She is average in size for a cat, allowing her to slink unnoticed through the dusty roads that make up Sunberth.

Human

Chocolate brown hair reaches the middle of her back and is usually knotted or mussed. Her pale skin is often dusted with dirt or a smudge of mud due to the nature of the city she calls home. She stands at five feet nine inches tall and weighs a measly 101 pounds, not helped by the scarcity of good food in Sunberth. There is almost no curve to Elyra's body. Immediately recognizable from her Kelvic form are her pale blue eyes with vertical slits for pupils, accompanied by teeth which are ever-so-slightly sharper than a human's should be. Her movements are fluid, but she is almost completely motionless when sitting or standing still. She possesses an excellent sense of hearing but is totally colorblind, which means that she cannot identify colors-instead, she sees in shades of grey.

HISTORY

Born in the middle of Winter in the year 512 AV, Elyra's parents knew almost immediately that something was off with their daughter. Her eyes remained shut for several days after she was born before she finally opened them. She seemed to hear nothing around her for almost a third of a season. Concerned about their daughter, but without the money to visit a doctor or a healer, they felt there were only two options. They could wait and see if she got better on her own, or they could find another, hopefully better, place to raise their daughter. Her parents chose the latter and left her in the Sunset Quarters under the care of Calyn.

In the orphanage, she developed quickly, walking and babbling within the first season of her life. Different from all the other children left there, Elyra was an outcast and often ignored or taunted by them. She quickly learned to stay out of their way and keep quiet, as it was the best way to avoid any trouble. Only when she was completely and totally alone would she dare to shift into her other form. This went on until the summer of 513. She really hadn't intended to leave the orphanage before, but it was a bit of an accident. In her feline form, the young Kelvic had taken a relaxing nap in the sunlight outside and managed to sleep for almost two bells. By the time she woke up and realized that Calyn was looking for her, she panicked and ran off into the city, promising herself she wouldn't return. That began a brief phase of living off the streets, where Elyra managed to stay alive and unnoticed until the spring of 514.

She slowly began spending time in her human form again, stealing the occasional piece of fruit or loaf of bread to supplement the diet of small wild animals she lived on. If a person of interest caught her eye, she would sometimes challenge herself to follow them and see what they got up to. Recently, her time has been spent honing what skills she has in hopes of one day becoming a full-time spy. Sunberth, after all, has many gangs who would love to have information on each other...

PERSONALITY

Elyra is quietly observant of everything around her, always focused on the bigger picture unless there's a reason to have a target. Not much in her mind is urgent enough to scream, yell, or even interrupt someone with. She is patient to an extreme with an excellent memory for odd details that normally would go overlooked. Confrontation repulses her-if she's being yelled at, she will either find a way to escape or sit and absorb what's being thrown at her. She tends to take things very literally and doesn't quite understand sarcasm or jokes.

When possible, she avoids opening up to people. Ironically, she believes that her life story is hers and hers alone and shouldn't be shared with anyone else unless she deems them worthy of the knowledge. She knows the dangers of her line of work and won't keep records of personal history-a journal or diary is absolutely out of the question for her. On the other hand, the secrets of others are fair game to Elyra. She is filled with a sense of longing and loss and is driven to know why things do what they do. She struggles with the concept of Kelvics-why do they shapeshift? where do they come from?-and would give almost anything to know the story behind her history. Less major, but still important, is her desire to meet her biological parents one day and have the opportunity to talk to them.

As a cat, she is much more affectionate, often nuzzling those in the streets who she feels mean her no harm. This is especially done when the person in question has something to offer her, such as food. Though she can hunt for herself, and does in order to survive, it's much easier for her to beg than hunt. Elyra is often found either asleep in a tucked-away corner or patrolling the streets from above, looking down on the city and its inhabitants.
