Silana can be considered attractive (for a Symenestra). Everything about her is soft; from her facial structure to her figure the heaviest part of her being her dark brows. As a young woman she has discovered and enjoys the use of makeup though for herself she prefers to keep it simple: kohl and dark lip pomades are her favorites. For clothing Silana enjoys dresses of the red variety. Her hair is never done the same way two days in a row and she adores jewelry as seen by her many adornments.
In her mannerisms Silana is slow and steady. Not gentle but firm. there is a grace she tries (and doesn't always succeed) in showing in all movements. Silana walks with her head high, back straight, and always with purpose. She is an open book facially. Smiles, crying, frowns, and so on come easy, hiding it is difficult which leaves her ducking her head in pretend shyness to hide things.
Silana speaks softly, carefully and when she talks there is an air of perpetual sleepiness as if half her mind is always somewhere else.

Silana is the middle child of the Hibiscus Web. As a son she would have been expected to take on the family’s religious practices, as daughter—she did it anyway. Throughout her childhood, Silana alternated between learning at school and learning at home. School at home was filled with her learning the ways of Viratas and her Web. Her free time was filled with play.
As she aged her free playtime evaporated into nothing. There was less school as her childlike years came to an end, more duties at home as she lead her family through prayers. It never worried her family that she would not priest, they hadn’t expected her to be one, but they worried she would not find her niche. Silana picked up skills but couldn’t choose one. It was to everyone’s great relief that when traders came, she discovered massage and cosmetology.
When she turned fifteen Silana finished school and moved out into the world. Her job was not a stable one but a fun one. She spent much of her time on home visits, dressing people up for weddings, dates or (if she was lucky) dance performances. It changed the moment she turned sixteen. Her sisters surrogate wanted a make-over and Silana volunteered to do it.
To the outside world, it was nothing; to Silana it was her first love. For the nine months that Kesley lived Silana would spend as much time as possible in The Nest, eventually prompting her to work there. After Kesleys death Silana has begun to petition for burial for surrogates and even burying some in the Temple of Viratas. In the meantime she continues to work in The Nest.
Personality
Silana is typical for a Symenestra. She holds strong ties to her family, loves her people and Viratas above all. There is parts of her that can be considered cruel or racist to outsides but as a whole she fits well within her community.
As an individual, Silana is genial, by-the-book, and passive. She enjoys company but is no rule breaker and dislikes confrontation. Her aversion to confrontation makes her passive in nearly all situations, if her bowing her head will avoid it then she will. In this manner she considers herself a coward, unable to stand up for herself when she should. Although, even if someone were cruel to Silana, intentionally or otherwise, she would forgive them redilly or forget the offense(as is usually the case).
Her ease with forgetting is usually cause by her lack of attention. Ever the day-dreamer Silana can be found lost in her thoughts or stories. And although being caught in a dream can embarrass her (as do many things) she is (for the most part) a confident young woman. However, she is still growing into a adult-hood, struggling with the day-to-day task of discovering who she is versus what she imagines herself to be.
Religion
As the second child, Silana is devout. She loves Viratas as she could love no one else, and finds always seeks to find small ways to honor him on a daily basis. The young woman gets plenty of eye rolls with her constant quoting of the Viratassa. Speaking of, she is never found with her copy of it.
While she is no priest Silana does lead her family through their daily rituals, such as:

I have some strength, I do massage work and there are times when The Nest has…uneasy visitors. 5. How do you typically dress and what is your style? I love dresses, especially red ones. Any kind is fine, could you imagine wearing anything else?
Family :
1. Who are your parents and what are they like? My mama is a weaver and my papa is a dancer. They’re both good people, they don’t leave the city anymore or their houses much anymore. I don’t know what else to say… 2. Do you have any brothers or sisters? I have both a brother, he’s younger, and a sister, she’s older. My sister is a Harvester and she already had her first child! My brother is still to young to do anything yet; he’s still in school. 3. What is your extended family like? We’re all very close, some of them could be farther away. Most of them are good Symenestra. I shouldn’t say too much about them, they aren’t here. 4. Do you consider close friends as important or more/less important than family? Friends are like family so…I think they should be equally important, you know? At the same time, we cannot abandon our blood. 5. Do you treat animals like family? I’ve never had an animal, I couldn’t say.
Location :
1. Where were you born? I was born in Kalinor. 2. Where do you live now? I still live in Kalinor, I can’t imagine living anywhere else. 3. If you could live anywhere in Mizahar where would that be? I think, I already answered that but I will answer again. I would live in Kalinor, nowhere else; this is where my family is, my friends too, there is nowhere else for me to be. 4. Do you have a favorite place to vacation or spend leisure time? Oh, um…I like to sit my roof and star at the opalgloams. They look just like stars and sometimes I can even see pictures and the stories they tell… 5. Where do you fear to be? I don’t…that’s a bit difficult to answer. I suppose I’d fear being alone, I’ve never been alone before, not anywhere.
Traits :
1. Do you have any physical weaknesses (disease, scars, and missing limbs)? I don’t, thankfully. 2. Are you right handed or left handed? I’m ambidextrous, make-up requires both hands so I taught myself. 3. What languages do you speak? What do you sound like? Do you have an accent? Hm, let’s see…besides Symenos I can speak Common and Vani. Common and Symenos are normal for any Symenestra, I learned some Vani from a surrogate who offered to teach me.
I’ve been told I have a softer, medium voice. As for accents, I suppose anyone speaking a language would have one when someone else hears it. When the Inarta trade with us their Symenos sounds strange…they speak it through their nose. 4. Do you have any odd mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics? Um…I can drift off in conversation, and I say I suppose a lot. My mama says I read the Viratassa too much but the words are comforting. It’s impossible not to quote it and…what was the question again? 5. Do you have (or want to get) any tattoos or piercing? Why do you have them (or will get them)? I have four of tattoos, papas uncle does them. I have a Hibiscus flower on my right foot, a spider for each of my family along my left collar, um, what else…a compass rose on my right forearm and phases of the moon on my right thigh. There’s one more I’m forgetting...oh! Right, the one on my back, it was my first. It’s a constellation from a story my uncle was told by some traders. It’s beautiful even if I can’t see it.
Occupations :
1. What is your occupation? I’m a groomer. 2. Do you like/dislike your work? Why? I…I like it. It can be, hm, depressing sometimes but most of it is wonderful. I get to dress people up, what could be more fun? 3. If you could be anything you wanted to, what would you be? I don’t know…I mean, I’ve thought about every profession but I—I don’t think I’m suited for anything else. 4. What occupation do you admire the most? Why? The Harvesters and the Gleaners. They keep us alive, I can’t imagine anyone who does anything greater! 5. What occupation do you lest like? Why? I suppose every job has a purpose, I can’t say I dislike one.

1. What sort of education do you have? One normal for a Symenestra. I just graduated last year, did you know? Mama bought me a new pair of sandals as a present. 2. Do you like/dislike learning? I love learning, there is never enough you can know. 3. Where or how did you learn most of your skills/abilities? My family and school, although, some of it was just me playing around. 4. How do you learn best? I think for me…reading then trying something. Having someone write instructions to follow makes it much simpler. 5. What are your educational goals for the future? To learn as much as I can in my trade and I’d like…this is…I’d like to learn more about astrology and dancing.
Relationships :
1. Do you form close bonds with people? Why? Why not? We are a closely tied city, of course I do…it’s not always easy but it’s important to not be alone. 2. Do you trust people easily? If not, why not? I think…well, people aren’t bad. I should try to trust them. 3. Do you consider yourself straight, gay, bi, or something else? You shouldn’t ask that…I’m…that is…I don’t dislike guys but they aren’t…women. 4. Have you ever been kissed? If so, describe the first time. This is our next question? Okay, well…I…yes. It was…soft—I can’t answer this! 5. Have you ever had sex? If so, describe the first time. I—no! Viratas preserve me, why is this a question?
Drugs and Alcohol :
1. Have you ever been drunk? If so, describe your first time. I’ve never drunk alcohol. 2. Do you like to drink on a regular basis? I’ve never drunk it before. 3. What sort of alcohol do you prefer? The same as said earlier. 4. Have you ever tried drugs (mood altering substances)? If so, which kinds and what did you think of them? I haven’t, and I wouldn’t. 5. What do you think of drugs and alcohol? Be specific. If someone else’s wants to do them, okay…well, not okay, they shouldn’t do it. I don’t like them but I’ve never met anyone using them.

Kalinor House: Permanent Homes are made from stalactites or stones that hang from the cavern ceiling. There are no glass windows, and rooms inside are separated by hanging cloth. The home is roughly 20x20 in size, pear shaped, and includes a hearth, bunk, chest, chair, and small table.
The houses in Kalinor don’t look anything like what you are used to. They aren’t square, they aren’t angular, and they don’t stand on the ground. Instead they are roughly pear shaped or shaped like a drop and hang from the ceiling. They don’t have windows, and the entrance is located at or near the very top of the house. From there a silk rope usually leads down, towards the living quarters. Symenestra homes usually don’t have a lot of rooms, but niches in the walls where the individual members of a Web store their things or sleep behind curtains. The houses are made of stalactites or stones, and they are connected to each other by thick cords of silk.
