AppearanceName: Ciro (s-eye-row)
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 20
Birthday: Spring 494, 33rd
Birthplace: Kenash
Physical Details: Ciro is not a towering individual by any means, standing at an acceptable height of 5'7". Not particularly large either, Ciro is composed mostly of the muscles that develops from years working the field. Like his strength Ciro can also thank his dark tanned skin to the fields as well. Taking more after the slim build of his mother than the blocky stockiness of his father, Ciro is a lithe individual with a good sense of balance and gait. With high cheek bones and feminine lips that, when coupled with Ciro's slim build, lend him an androgynous appearance that is especially apparent when his hair is grown long. Speaking of hair, Ciro's is a deep brown currently cropped short in an effort to make him appear more refined which is a large improvement over the jagged rough appearance of most slave's hair. Growing up a slave, Ciro has been able to cultivate an aura of obedience and subservience without actually having to do anything while at the same time giving the impression he is ready to move at a moments notice to fulfill the desires of his master. As for clothing, Ciro wear whatever he is told to; simple as that. Ciro's slave brand is prominently displayed on his right cheek, the once angry red scare now aged and faded to a certain degree
Character ConceptThere are few things in this world more valuable than an efficient tool. What would a blacksmith be without his anvil? A surgeon without his scalpel? A warrior without their sword? Without their tools these people would be undefined, the knowledge within them but unable to be used. Few people understand this concept as well as Ciro. Born and raised into slavery this young man has seen what happens when a tool has no purpose, when it breaks, when something better comes along. Ciro understands his lot in life is that of a slave but instead of rejecting it or resenting it, he embraces it. Ciro wants to be that slave his Master or Mistress couldn't function without, the only accessory that is always by their side. He wants to become a tool so efficient, so skilled, that a dependence is built and it becomes impossible to live without. Everything Ciro does is motivated by this underlying factor to set himself apart from the other slaves, to make himself a better tool for his owners.
Character HistoryThe past of Ciro is a simple one, common among slaves in Kenash. He was born the child of two slaves and was thrust waist deep into slavery for the Morealis family from birth. The child of a House slave and a Professional slave, Ciro was given a unique opportunity that most slave children never truly got: an education. Granted the knowledge was limited to what his parents knew, not much, but it was always just enough to set himself apart from the pack. The cooking taught to him by his mother as a young child, the late nights spent learning mathematics and organization from his father would come to be essential skills to set Ciro down his course.
Such a gift is a double edged sword in the world of a slave though. In a world where community and homogeneity were king, being different was a sin. The skills that made him attractive to his owners were considered repulsive to his peers, they viewed him as a lapdog of their abusers or a sellout. Ostracized for crimes he never committed, Ciro began to return the resentment of the other slaves and began to believe he truly was different from them. However, Ciro did not come to believe he was worse than the other slaves but better. Not nearly as good as the Masters and Mistresses, but better than the slaves who were content to work the fields, better than those who chose not to play the game.
Ciro's parents saw the path he was going down, they'd seen countless other go down it before, and tried to lead him away but the damage was done. They only succeeded by pushing Ciro farther away and leading him to cut ties with the two people in his life that loved him. Truly alone in a world not known for kindness, Ciro was forced to change in order to survive. The child who had once wanted nothing more than the kindness and acceptance of his peers hardened his heart to their plights.
As he grew older and stronger Ciro was tasked to work the fields, inevitable given that was were most of the strong young men and women worked. He quickly developed a reputation of, if not outright hostile, unfriendly. The other slaves developed a system of favors and trades in order to make their time in the fields more bearable, a way to take care of each other and escape the whip of the task masker. No such thing existed for Ciro so he made due on his own. Instead of relying on his popularity among his fellows, Ciro gained the favor of the task maskers. He became an informant to the Overseer about the goings on with the slaves, becoming a snitch on the very people he was apart of. By doing so Ciro was able to earn enough favor to survive through little things; extra rations of water or a little extra food, just so happening to work areas that were less strenuous. By doing this Ciro was able to eck out a life for himself in the fields for years, waiting for an opportunity to prove his worth.
Of course, Ciro wasn't stupid and realized that any preferential treatments were sure to be noticed by those around him. He circumvented this by requesting extra beatings on occasion or actually asking to be given the hardest jobs. The other slaves were none the wiser and Ciro was able to gain favor with the people that mattered. Of course such a system would not work forever, eventually his ruse was discovered and his fellow slaves responded . . . poorly. The result was a brutal beating that just about killed him and resulted in several broken ribs. As a lowly field slave, Ciro didn't earn enough attention to warrant a doctor but it was lucky for him that a parents love is one of the strongest forces in the world. Ciro's parents, in a last bid to show their son how much they loved him, called in all the favors they had to get him looked at by one his father's professional acquaintances; an assistant to a local doctor.
While this slave was able to save Ciro's life, his knowledge wasn't enough to ensure he healed properly. The result was that Ciro's ability to work the field was crippled. Unable to do prolonged physical labor without extreme pain in his sides Ciro's efficiency plummeted and with the other slaves so distrustful that they refused to speak around him, Ciro was quickly looking at a short future. However, luck or fate or perhaps even some bad meat intervened on his behalf. One of the house slaves, an older woman who had worked in the house for decades, became sick with a gut disease that quickly worsened until her body could no longer take it and passed away. With her death came a promotion of sorts for Ciro. The Overseer, remembering the way Ciro was able to deceive his fellow slaves, recommended that instead of the family wasting money to purchase a House slave at auction they elevate from within. Whisper to whisper it was passed along until it caught the attention of one of the caretakers who decided that such an idea would be quite acceptable.
During a short interview in which Ciro was forced to jump through hoops like a dancing pony, Ciro was evaluated. His dedication and loyalty to the plantation and the family alongside his quick mind paired with a unique skills set made Ciro an easy choice to fill the vacancy. With his new lot secure Ciro turned his mind to moving farther up the ladder.

Heirloom: A wooden chip carved to resemble a gold miza.
This wooden coin is the last of a set carved for Ciro by his father in order to teach the boy the basics of mathematics and accounting. A token from the days of his childhood and the memories of the good times spent with his parents, the coin is the last remaining ties he has to the time where every day wasn't a fight for his life. However, as Ciro grew older the coin would come to represent the power of knowledge and setting yourself apart, serving as a constant reminder of Ciro's goal and motivations. Each day that passes erodes a little bit more of the memories and the coin becomes a physical representation of his ambitions.
HousingLocation: Blacksuger
Quarters: Ciro lives in the shantytown along with the other slaves in communal housing. Despite his elevated position as a house slave, not much has changed for Ciro in terms of living arrangements. He still sleeps on the same mat that he did before and experiences the same ostracism from the other slaves. It is not uncommon for Ciro to find what little he can call his own to be vandalized or destroyed in some manner. A favorite is soaking his sleeping area in urine.
