This lazy agricultural settlement rests on the swampy shores of the Middle Suvan at the delta of The Kenash River. The River's slow moving bayou waters have bred a different sort of people - rugged, cultured, and somewhat violent. Sprawling plantations of tobacco and cotton grow on the outskirts of the swamp in the rich Cyphrus soils, while the city itself curls around the bayou and spawns decadence and sins of all sorts. Life is slower in Kenash, but the lack of pace is made up for in the excesses of food and flesh in a city where drinking, debauchery, gambling, slavery, and overbearing plantation families dominate the landscape.

The Sailormen's Toil

At the northern tip of Blade Island is the shipyard owned by Craden Draer, called the Sailormen's Toil. Just off the path is the office where Craden handles orders and receives various construction supplies. On a large willow bar are scattered papers and, beneath them, a salt soaked ledger. This is where Craden keeps a record of all the ships he’s made, the supplies he’s bought, and who he’d sold ships to. On the path are copious stacks of lumber, waiting to be bent and nailed to take shape. Craden thinks himself to be a great shipwright, but in retrospect, there is little in Kenash to be done for a shipwright. He has settled for what business he gets, mostly wrought from Svefra from his own Dynasty.

The Sailormen's Toil is an amalgamation between swamp needs and catering to sailors passing through towards the northern Suvan Sea. It also has a small dock to tie up the boats of customers who wish to test out his products. This can often lead to a skewed first impression of the city, as Craden's smaller dock leads one to believe that Kenash may in fact be a small port city. Due to Craden's charitable nature, this is one of the few places in town a Freeborn can find work outside of owning his own business or mercenary practice.

The business also buys the wrecks of boats, taking their carcasses and reworking them with new materials to create a relatively low-priced but effective boat. These have created a unique quality of boat, nicknamed Bastard Boats by the populace. They are called this because they are of low quality, and lacking in beauty. Often what will happen is a ship becomes wrecked and Craden buys the wreck from the survivors. By the time it’s finished he gives them the option to buy it back from him at the bastardized price. Sometimes they buy it, sometimes they don’t, but none have ever called Craden unfair in his prices or practices.

Born not in Kenash like most of his Dynasty members, but upon the waters of the Suvan Sea, Craden Draer considers himself to be more of a Svefra than the rest of his 'pod', as he prefers to call the Draer. Insistent in his ways, and seeking to combat the decayed nature of the Draer's perversion of the Svefra culture, Craden is an oasis in the desert of lacking faith and isolation from the sea that Kenash has built into being. He offers sacrifices to Laviku in private, away from his family, for he has isolated himself from them. Craden Draer is a very lighthearted man in business scenarios, preferring to enjoy a glass of rum or preferably, Draer-made ale as he converses with his patronage about exactly what they want from him.

His service of bastardizing ships in the hopes of turning a profit is one of his many intelligent innovations in the city of Kenash, and while it produces sub-par product unworthy of Dynasty members, it is not them that he targets. Freeborn seeking to blaze their trail are. However, Craden has a very close relationship with Jal Draer and the Draer Shallows, supplying the man with his boats and their repairs, a mutually beneficial, symbiotic relationship that accounts for most of Craden's business. However, he also creates larger ships, easily acquiring the resources, but not necessarily the manpower to do so. When Craden, in the very rare instances that he does, acquires a large order, him and Jal close both of their businesses for nearly the entire season in order to properly construct the vessel. For both take a great pride in creating such ships.
