Jacqueline "Jax" Charter

Gender: Female

Age: 21, born on The 60th of Winter, 492 AV

Race: Human, of Vantha Ancestry

Physical Description: Jacqueline is a female human who is 5"10' and weighs 140 lbs. She has long black hair and green eyes and her hair is most often tied back. Neither in incredible shape nor out of it, Jacqueline usually finds herself being only of negligible use in a contest of strength and hasn't won a fight in recent memory. However, her long legs and broad torso do lend themselves to her ability to run, an ability she definitely has practice in. Jacqueline steers away from makeup and jewellery as she finds them to do little more than draw attention to herself.

Jacqueline has a rougher face than most, with a scar here and a bruise there. They aren't necessarily indicators of abuse, but rather telling signs of someone who can get themselves out of trouble and unfortunately, find themselves in it more often than not. Her eyes are soft and her nose petite, and she can quite readily summon a smile to embellish her looks if she so desires. Jacqueline's jawline is not very pronounced and her face can seem small at times, but that quickly changes if she's in a bad mood.

Fashion like cosmetics, was never a real concern for Jacqueline and rather than purchase a brand new outfit, she prefers to find something that is used. She's been known to wear clothes that would have been more at home in a trash heal than on someone's person but like she always told her mother, "It's whatever gets the job done that works!" Generally though, Jacqueline wears thigh length shorts and loose fitting blouses for ease of movement. She will wear footwear if it's available but will cheerily go without if need be.

Home Region: Sunberth, Syliras

Character Concept: Since the day Jacqueline stood on two feet, she loved to run. Whether it was away from bullies or criminals or even her parents, Jax excelled at making a clean getaway. She became so adept at running that if she didn't like what someone was saying, then before they finished their sentence they'd be eating her dust. Jax never really got on with her folks but they were the ones who fed her. She loved both of them dearly and even in the chaotic bosom of Sunberth, the family managed to chisel out a meagre life for themselves.

It should never have, wouldn't have happened if not for Jax. She had only been sneaking out to go get some fresh air when she saw the Kelvic. She never figured out why the animal-person had been so stupid as to just waltz into Sunberth, only that it had. She couldn't have known it was a Kelvic in the shape of a cat, mangy enough by stray standards but decrepit for a human that could think for itself. Her first thought had only been to help the thing in its time of need. She couldn't have known. The ragged thing had leapt up into her arms and Jax went back to the house. Her parents welcomed the animal with open arms and they examined the strange collar on its neck. Just as they were prying it from the cat's neck, the door burst open. Men with weapons came in, made no statements. Jax's mother used her last breath to give one dying command; "Run Jacqueline! Run away!"

It took Jacqueline years to piece together what happened that day, and years more to reconcile with herself that the whole incident wasn't her fault. Still, she found that no matter where she went or what she did, the terrible day remained imprinted in her memory. And so, robbed of purpose and haunted by her past, Jacqueline did the only thing she could. Run.

Character Merits and Flaws:

+ Jax has become very good at resolving conflicts, as her whole life has been filled with them. Taking on the natural position as a mediator, she has developed a calming aura that makes people come out of their shells around her.
+ Jax lives for the thrill of life. She can't get enough adrenaline rushes in one day and if something promises to be exciting, you can count her in.
+ Jax is perhaps the most welcoming individual in Sunberth, willing to take in anyone who needs a hand. She also has next to no qualms with magic, another side-effect of her exodus from Sunberth.

- When things look bleak, or there seems to be no solution Jax will still resort to her old standby, and run from her problems, fears and threats. It takes her a long time to face things that overwhelm her.
- Jax can sometimes love adrenaline rushes, but there is a line that ought not be crossed and she still hasn't figured that out. Only time will tell if she bites off more than she can chew and discovers risk the hard way.
- Jax realized her folly in being too trusting when it came to her parents deaths but the result was a horrible indecisiveness about whether to trust strangers or not. This leaves her in a strange in-between where she will sometimes spill her whole life story or be very vague.

History: After Jacqueline lost her parents, she went on something of a pilgrimage. She spent four years in Avanthal with some extended relatives and lived in relative happiness. Eventually though, she realized she was an outcast and left wihout any goodbyes. Her time among the Vantha had borne many good things despite her sour departure. Among the most prominent, she inherited a whip that her mother had entrusted to Jacqueline's grandmother. She also gained a rudimentary understanding of Vani and she became quite comfortable with the cold.

Jacqueline surprised even herself when upon leaving Avanthal, her wanderlust struck again. She hopped from city to city until eventually she arrived in Eloab among the heat and desert sands. The Chaktawe harboured her for a time and she was in the midst of learning their customs when a heat-stricken messenger collapsed at the gates, clutching a missive in his sunburnt fist. While the native people nursed him back to health, Jacqueline read the message. It was apparently written by her father's cousin and detailed a terrible plight. He had a debt with a nasty gang of anarchists and they were to kill him in a month if she didn't return to Sunberth. Jacqueline had never met her second cousin, nor was she particularly convinced by this message but something made her leave Eloab anyway. It was as though if someone was in trouble, she couldn't help herself.

And so in the Summer of 514 AV, Jacqueline returned to Sunberth, a totally different person. Disguised in the rags and cloths of the Chaktawe, she masqueraded as "Jax" a childhood nickname of hers. The message had said that her cousin was staying at her parents' house and so she went. Ever cautious, she entered the house from the back to find exactly what she suspected. An unfriendly group of thugs and thieves were staying in the dishevelled heap of her old home. What's more, she realized that they were the Kelvic slavers of old who had slain her parents in cold blood. Ice filled Jax's heart and she moved to strike at them and...knocked over a vase.

It was with quick steps and hasty twists and turns that Jax evaded the slavers. She almost wound up in a dead end but thankfully, there had been a narrow alley to duck through. She gathered herself and began to make for the outskirts. It had been a fraud after all, and she knew that the Chaktawe would welcome her. For the second time that season, what seemed the height of folly consumed her. Jax had an idea. If perhaps, she could find a warrior strong enough to root out the slavers could she regain her home? And, she thought even more boldly, gain revenge on my parents' killers? So far, her coin purse remained unmolested, and thus began the search for a mercenary to aid Jax. Little did she know what trouble she would find in her quest.
