The Mizahar Nail Polish & Beauty Talk Thread

Hello. My name is DANI and I'm a Polishaholic.

Oh my days.

As if I have only just discovered this thread. I am so incredibly excited to see others on Miz loving nail polish and beauty etc. as much as I do. This is thrilling!

So my obsession with Polish comes out of being slightly obsessive, a perfectionist and having way too much time. I like intricate patterns. I like having to hold my hand so close to my eyes that I almost get high off the polish fumes, and my eyes go fuzzy from concentrating/sniffing so hard (solent abuse? hello!). Most of all, I love how my nails look having recently been painted, and seeing what they look like in different lights, different rooms and weather types.

Nail tattoos/wraps/etc really don't work for me. I have nails the same size as my 8 year old (I'm 22), and so I have to trim wraps down so small that I either ruin the pattern, or lose the correct shape. Same goes for nail extensions/false nails. It's a hard life, but I manage.

As for other beauty things, I have quite the passion for perfume too (I love sweet-smelling perfumes especially). I also enjoy make up and body/bath stuff, but my skin is pretty sensitive and quite pink tinted, so I gotta be careful with what I use otherwise I look like a lobster.

Finally, my passion for all things beauty has lead to me travelling across/under seas to visit Sephora. I live in the UK and there are NO Sephora stores here. I'd heard/read about the store before and so I MAY have visited Paris just to go to Sephora. Maybe. Is that sad?

Favorite Individual Polishes In Your Collection: Oh god. I go through fits and fads. At the moment I'm loving' Push and Shove by OPI (it's so shiny!) but my go-to colour has been Aquadelic by ChinaGlaze for quite sometime (the colour is similar to For Audrey, which I was what I was looking for when I got Aquadelic, but couldn't find it)
Collection Size: 200-300. My nail polishes live at 2 addresses because I move around a lot and I can never bring ALL of them with me.
Favorite Brands: Hm. OPI makes me feel like a classy lady, but sometimes you just can't beat hughstreet brands, especially for nail art where you might use a blob of one colour and don't want to fork out too much moolah. Essie is awesome, too, because of their wide brushes (though they're too big for my nails other than Tom Thumb)
Favorite Finishes: Matte always looks like funky, I think. But to be honest I like all. With textures nails I tend to spend too much time feeling them so they crack and rub away quicker.
Lemmings: Essie Shine of the Times. I have searched all over the UK for this brand to no avail. I ordered a bottle from Amazon and another colour arrived and I literally can't anymore. I just can't.
Finishes I hate: Gel. I've only had gel nails once and they didn't last long enough o warrant the money spent.
Polish/Beauty Blogs I Stalk: The Nailasauras is really amazing.
Favorite Other Beauty Products: MAC, LUSH, The Body Shop.

Welcome!

Glad to see someone loving this thread. :)

I have a bottle of Shine of the Times laying around and I see them all over the US. I bet I could snag you a bottle without much fuss.

The Mizahar Nail Polish & Beauty Talk Thread

PICTURE SPAM!!!

At last, I have finally gotten enough pictures to post!

So I've been tinkering a lot with various glitters, pigments, and flakies. They weren't all successful formula-wise but aesthetically they look pretty cool. Some are a bit streaky or chunky, while others can't seem to hold up the microglitters or flakies no matter how much suspension solution I try to squeeze in. That being said here are some pics:

Image

Image

Image

I made tons and I'm not at all satisfied with most of them, but they will pass for the second batch of guinea pigs. Definitely an improvement from my first batch, which was just poop. The only ones that survived from Batch #1 (as in I chucked the failed ones out of their bottles and recycled the containers) are the small bottles with white glitter and green w/gold glitter. I do really like the retro bottles I got from TKB Trading but I'm not sure if they sell those anymore. Too bad :( I would've definitely re-ordered!

Image

Image

So one of the things I was trying to do was make unusual multichromes. What I mean by that is really just weird combinations of base colors and multichrome pigment. For this green one I used a chameleon car pigment that changes from purple to orange to pink/gold and some minty green polish. The trick to these is not to use anything with too much white. White destroys a lot of the color changing effects so avoid at all costs!

Image

It turned out relatively successful...you can definitely see it on the nail at different angles but it's still soft and subtle, not in your face kind of multichrome. It got chipped too along the edges of my middle finger due to my inability to use a pick when I play guitar. I like to think I'm like Wes Montgomery or Seymour Duncan but who am I kidding. I do wish I could have somehow made the formula more vibrant/stronger but maybe next time. Too many things to try @_@

This last picture however does make a nice segway into the second thing I tried to do, which was make textured nail polish colors. By textured I don't mean bumpy to the touch or something but more like...stones or robin's eggs, if that makes any sense. What I did was put this very fine purple duochrome glitter into pastel colors to try and create a speckled effect. It worked quite well and turned out to be some of my favorites! This one here, which is also shown on the ring and index fingers above, is a rather simple slate/earthy greenish blue:

Image

This is an example of what I meant by not enough suspension. The glitter just all sinks down even though I've put a healthy dose of glitter formula in it. Ah well, just means I have to furiously shake it every time I want to use it.

And here is another version paired with a very, very shiny and jelly mauve I watered down from the Essie color Warm and Toasty Turtleneck:

Image

Image

For this robin's egg one I applied a matte coat over it to make it look even more eggy in surface. It's cool and even has a purple duchrome sheen, but it does chip much easier because of the matte coat. Then again I used the 99 cent Wet n Wild matte polish, so maybe a higher quality would have lasted longer.

Okay last one! This was a combination of two polishes I made:

Image

The black one has a subtle amount of garnet microglitters behind the orangey flakies, but it wasn't bold enough so I added a coat of pure flakies over it.

Image

I did make the mistake of trying to paint more of the black one over the layer of flakies, but then it just killed a lot of the glam, so I re-added flakies over the halves that I had applied more of the darker polish. It kinda reminds me of Revlon's Autumn Spice, except the glitter has been exploded tenfold. I like it, very appropriate for fall. I shall have to try one with just the darker polish sometime and see how it does on its own.

Well that's all for now folks, I will be back with more in the future

~Just figured I'd participate a little on this...

Hello. My name is Zebra and I'm a Polishaholic.

Ever since I had gotten my nails done for my high school graduation, they were acrylics, with french tips. A dark crimson glitter filling, I absolutely loved them, although they costed me $70, so I couldn't exactly keep going back to get them done again.

Here is a photo, well the only photo that you can some-what see them.
Image

Afterwards, I got a job and was able to keep going back to get them re-done. I got some pictures, but most of them aren't all that great so I'll only post a couple of them up. But me and my nail artist enjoyed our sessions, cause I allowed her to play around with my nails and the designs.

Image

After that, I sort of left town, got a job on stations, working with cattle, so I couldn't exactly keep getting acrylic nails. but now I have decided to paint my nails, mostly to stop my nasty nervous nail biting habit, but I enjoy looking at my painted nails. It made me realize how much I am of a polishaholic.

The Mizahar Nail Polish & Beauty Talk Thread

So this is weird. Being a guy and all I don't really paint my nails, not that I haven't had it done before through female friends who wanted to see a new color or theater arts classes, but I have a bit of a problem with chewing my nails. I don't do it on purpose but I don't really pay attention when I do and I was wondering if any of you knew a secret to stopping? I heard there was this clear coat or something that made it taste really bad. But I don't know if that's a thing.

Also, I don't really want to paint my nails but wouldn't mind doing somethings to make them look better. I figured this is the best place to ask... Since its about nails and beauty. .-.

I haven't seen this in the thread, but have any of you tried Ruby Wing? It's nail polish that changes color in direct sunlight, and it's pretty awesome. I have a bunch of different colors, and they have a lot of colors available, so I thought I'd mention it in a thread full of polishaholics. :P

Akua- Just about any clear coat tastes bad. You can get this really great top coat called Seche Vite (buy it off ebay, not in stores because ebay has it for like 5.99 while in stores it will cost you 10-15 bucks)... and it will make your nails so hard that it will be really difficult to chew them - as well as it tastes foul.

Ruby Wing - I have friends that have it. It seems very cool to me. I just don't own any atm. :)

I got some fun new lipsticks from NYX for the season. Nothing like Olive Green, Metallic Copper, and Blurple that's a warm shade. NYX's Wicked Collection I believe is permanent and super outrageously cool. I ordered the forest green, gold, deep blue etc but unfortunately with my skin tone the only ones that really looked super awesome were these three (Betrayal, Trickery, and Wrath) and a black from their macaroon collection. Trickery looks like a sick color but its DROP DEAD GORGEOUS on the right skin tone (me!). I think the red will look great too. Its too bad Risque and Immortal were too cool. The gold I got, Mischievous, looks great too but more as an ombre highlight in existing lipsticks. It's not much in the way of a stand alone. They retail off NYX's site for a whopping $6 bucks a tube which I got at half off with a coupon and free shipping. Whoo!

If you want some better than average bold lip colors, go for it. I can actually wear the olive and copper everyday. The pictures are a bit 'dim' because I'm loosing the light here, but the olive is the one where I'm in my glasses, and the copper is the top right. Bottom left is Betrayal... a definite blurple.

The Mizahar Nail Polish & Beauty Talk Thread

Hi. My name is Nathalie and I'm a fashion vacuum.

No, really. I have no clue when it comes to beauty, make-up or cosmetics of any kind. Or clothes for that matter. Someone told me once that they were flying over to my country just to teach me to walk in high heels since it was preposterous (to them) that I never have. I still never have. Probably never will, either. :|

I do occasionally paint my nails, though. I cut them off a few weeks ago and they just grew out enough that I figured I'd (borrow my 9-year old sister's nail polish and then) paint them. I've been told more times than I can count that I have very beautiful nails, and they were the envy of my school class when I was younger. I never really saw it, personally, but... to each their own, I suppose.

Image

Image

I deliberately held my hand further away so you couldn't see how much paint got on my fingers. Just because I regularly paint my nails it doesn't mean I'm any good at it. I actually kind of suck at it.

Congratulations! Experience awarded! +2 Cosmetics
