Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

It felt cool outside today as the brothers decided to get a little bit of fresh air, so far their visit here in Riverfall has been more or less interesting as the both of them managed to spend four nights here. Byron swore to himself that it was more or less surviving as they'd yet to officially poke around Riverfall just yet, he was rather quite paranoid about the fact they were still in a new place he'd yet to fully learn or understand. Yet the fact they still managed to be breathing at this point proved that they at least had no enemies, even so that still didn't stop the older brother from worrying so much. They felt the need to think and hence the desire for fresh air brought them out today, after they had a decent breakfast to get them going anyways. "You know, this whole sleeping in one night thing is getting pretty easier. I doubt I'll ever be able to sleep the way we did back home, not for a long while at least." He mused as he watched the gardens as several locals wandered the pathways, Tailen laid on his belly picking a few of the flowers from the garden as he would look at them and pick the petals off one at a time.

"Do you think... we'll ever go back?" He asked quietly as he was lost in thought, the older brother looked over his shoulder to notice something, his younger brother looked distantly sad at the moment. "I mean that was our home, its the only place I can think about and feel safe in. Here I just feel... lost."

"I promise you Tai, that's all going to pass. Soon enough you'll feel used to be out on the road, for now we're wanderers in search of answers. Eventually, we'll come across a lead. There has to be something that'll direct us on the right path." He encouraged as he hoped that would make the little brother feel better.

"I still can't remember anything... if that's what you've been wondering. Not our home, not the life we had, and not even mom." He whimpered somberly as he tossed aside a flower with the petals picked clean.

"I know. I don't expect it to come back to you so easily, otherwise this quest would've been pointless in the beginning. Somehow, we have to find a way to restore them." He looked forward once more with a silent sigh. That is if such a way exists. He had to work hard to keep the thought out, as he didn't want to believe such a possibility existed. He wanted to think that there were answers, answers he would find soon once they started their search here. He believed there was a way, that there had to be something that could work. Otherwise he'd have a little brother with no real memory as to who he grew up as, and in turn live with the doubts of knowing what he had been told was all lies. Byron didn't want this, if anything he wanted his little brother back. The answers were out there and that's all he knew, and he had to figure out the best way to seek them out carefully.

Settled in amongst the flowers was the ethereal Konti. She had chosen a space by particularly flowerful dahlias. The tubular petals were so abnormal that they kept drawing her thoughts out, to the oddities of the world and nature in general. White legs crossed at the ankle beneath, as she sat in the little resting area.

A swift Autumn breeze was finally overtaking the heat of summer and the beautiful cacophony of colors the flowers offered were joined in symphony with the Fall golds and reds. Across the sky three seabirds circled and flew out down to the coastline.

Remembering the trio of avians that had brought her to Hirem, the seer began to wonder on the nature of birds and fortune telling. Would all birds mean the same thing? What made the meanings different by bird, perhaps it was an association with divinity. Eselle made a mental note to find the library she had heard of, it was time to expand her knowledge. That was a matter for later.

In the loamy scent of later blooming flowers and dying petals, the seer closed her eyes and looked inward. She had once taken the time to explain the interconnectivity of all things, that fortune telling was the knowledge to look into these connections to understand what may be or has been. Never before had it been necessary to give voice to these ideas but the more she examined the more true it seemed. Relaxing her limbs slowly, one at a time. Then her emotions, she pushed away confusion and doubt banishing them slowly down to her toes. There where the disruptive emotions couldn’t touch her core and mind. Eselle tried to pull her essential identity to the forefront. Why was it that she could believe in signs for faithfully? Omens were the rules of her life, all of the pathways her boots treaded were filtered through these signs.

There was truth there somewhere. She knew it like she knew the Chavena existed, it was intrinsic to the world. Somehow the signs held connected to all things, that was what she was reading. The Chavena connected all people alive, perhaps this was how the signs could present themselves. The Konti had never wondered until now, how it was that she could differentiate the Chavi. Now though, suddenly, it mattered. Who did she know before one was picked that it would be correct? Was that a characteristic of Divination?

Her gift tugged against her mind, snapped all of her emotions back to the forefront. Her meditations ended she looked about to see two young boys. Without a doubt this was the source of her gift’s urging. A pale hand rose and beckoned the boys over, “Are you looking for something?”

The older brother bit the tip of his thumb then as he tried to think a little more, his thoughts spent on more possible routes they could take. Sure they could find a healer, somebody who might have the power to restore the mind? But where would they find such a healer, or someone with that kind of power even? Tailen's mind wasn't damaged as far as he knew, but then again nobody just went to suddenly find themselves with a case of amnesia all of a sudden. There had to be something seriously at work here, something like this that involved magic or something. It was possible granted that there were harmful Personal Magics out there, but which of those magics could actually allow one to steal or wipe the memory of a child? He scoffed at the idea then, disgusted to think such a thing was used, if that were the case then they were going to be looking pretty hard for an answer.

They had no clues as to what erased Tailen's memory, no real knowledge in how to undo whatever damage had been done to him, and to top if off they were both looking for pretty much anything that could help them at this point. Yet as he thought more about it Byron felt as though he were spending more time avoiding it all together, when he felt so damn determined to see the goal achieved the moment the two set out on this quest. What is it about this place that has me so damn backwards? Its like my mind isn't straight anymore. He shook his head in utter frustration then while the younger brother noticed somebody, a woman who pretty much looked the same as Lynx. She had to come from the same background or something, granted she had similar qualities in terms of appearance. Blonde hair and scales that gleamed in the sun just a bit, that was enough indication for them to be able to make the connection.

Yet when Tailen had been the one to notice that she'd addressed them, he crawled up to his knees and nudged Byron on the shoulder, a finger pointed to the lady as the older brother followed the direction. "I think she want's to talk with us." He murmured sheepishly as Byron stood to his feet with an eyebrow raised, he had a look of intrigue on his face as his curiosity soon grappled the better of him.

"You're right. C'mon, let's check it out." He motioned for Tailen to follow as he approached the woman shortly afterwards, he waited til the younger brother had caught up before he'd answered her cryptic question. "Well sorta. We're actually at a loss on what we're trying to find, but the more important thing we're wanting is a bit more difficult to obtain." He looked at his brother with a troubled expression on his face, a sad but hopeful look in his eyes as he returned his gaze to the woman before him.

"Are you somebody that can help us find things? I lost my memories of who I was, and we're looking for a way for me to get them back." Tailen explained as he suddenly showed interest in the lady, his curiosity about her piqued as he wondered if she might have some special thing she could do to provide them with some answers.

Their need for answers struck the Konti as the boys approached. “I can tell you what you have forgotten but that is not the same as knowing it. It will only confuse you.” The Seer shook her head. “Perhaps I can send you to someone who may help you though.”

Memories were not as simply as knowing what was missing. How could you ever believe what another person said happened when to you it never had? There were any number of reasons a memory might be gone as well. It could be an injury, or by choice. Even for the Seer who could see portents of the future in the flight of a bird or a splash of color on a card, the past meant much. The Chavena held all that a person had ever been in every life their Chavi had experienced. If she looked into this boys, she might only see metaphors though and that might be worse than no answer at all.

There would be a time for meditations later. It was hard to concentrate when he gift sent shivers up her spine. It was an indication of a question of significance. That was not to say she couldn’t also sense when her neighbor lost her shoes. The Konti couldn’t verify that the woman was losing shoes but it was something of little importance and it happened often, so Eselle had made up the story of missing shoes to entertain herself one morning.

She motioned to the grass beside her, “Come boys, tell me your story and I will try to help you.” The Konti was no renowned Seer but she had a passable ability and she was constantly working towards being better. Already she had a suspicion that the cards would be needed for these boys. If that was the case she would likely take them back to the Inner Eye. That could wait until she heard their tale though.

The two brothers only wound up glancing at one another with a bit of confusion already found, their thoughts already spent on the curiosity of who this woman could in fact lead them to. This person could probably help them out, though she wouldn't be able to do so in the manner they needed the help. Well maybe not the way Byron wanted her to anyways, but at this point he wasn't going to turn away what spare help could come along when it came to helping his little brother. Thus when she beckoned for them to reveal their story to her, they both had a bit of a troubled expression on their face. Both had their own separate versions of the story, and yet no matter what they came to the same conclusion. They wound up journeying together as Riverfall was their first choice in destination, granted it wound up being an odd one considering the circumstances they were in now.

"I only remember when I first woke up..." Tailen admitted as he looked up in thought, hopeful that something before that would come along to help them out. Byron of course remembered all he had to tell from his point of view, and it saddened him to reflect back upon that day.

"I remember the entire day. From the moment we started the new bell, to the last chime I found you." He glanced over to Tailen with a disheartened smile forced onto his face, the story then relayed to the lady that addressed them as he found himself hopeful that she could indeed help them out somehow. "That morning both Mom and Tailen were heading out for a little while, she had a few errands to run and asked if we wanted to tag along. Tailen went with her but... I stayed behind." He ground his teeth for a moment as he felt his heart grow heavy then, as the shame he kept buried within somehow felt ready to pour out so suddenly. "I wanted to study more, learn more about whatever magic I could. Though now I hate it, because when I chose to stay home that day, I soon found myself regretting that choice. Neither mom nor Tai came home several bells later, enough time had passed that I started to worry. So I looked for them, I looked everywhere I could within the city."

He clenched his fists as he continued on with the story, his eyes cast down to ground while Tailen watched him in awe. "I figured that maybe they went to the outpost or something, and went to look outside the city instead... And then that's where I found Tailen, right next to the springs as though he'd fallen unconscious. Mom was gone, and as soon as he woke up he panicked. He didn't know who I was nor how he wound up there, even worse he'd forgotten who he was entirely. It was because I chose to study that this happened, and why I hate magic to this day." He spat the word out with bitterness in his tone, as he finally found himself able to look back up to the woman that stood before them. "After that well... something happened. The waters of the spring has a sort of strange power you see, when the they were disturbed we both fell into a trance. It granted us a vision." He recollected as the moment of the event flashed across his mind, it seemed like the vision itself was but a hazy dream at this point, yet somehow he still felt it embedded in the reaches of his mind.

That vision was what led them to believe that they were capable of restoring Tailen to his former self, although there was great uncertainty about whether or not it could actually be done. Byron finally allowed himself a sigh as he mentally shook of the sudden state of depression he felt, as he didn't want to leave a poor impression on the good lady that wanted to actually try and help them out. "After that the rest is practically history, we pretty much went on a personal quest that led us here first." He glanced over to Tailen while he said that, curious as to what his brother thought about now even if he'd heard parts of the story beforehand. "So, do you know anybody that could actually help us out Miss?..." He trailed off with the thought of saying her name, only to realize that they had in fact not received it in the first place.
