18th of Autumn, 514 AV
The sun warmed the back of the colossus that currently passively stalked the streets of Sunberth, who set off that morning wanting to see the streets as any man would, although maybe a few feet above the norm. Previous to today, Thir had expressed a great reluctance to leave his abode aside from retrieving food or perhaps getting a feel for Sunberth as a city, and he seldom liked what he saw. Even in the calmest, the most serene of settings could he find some form of putrid injustice. On even this street, it was obvious. Men and women were looking at others with... With intent. Maleficent intent. As if they were... Possibilities. Not everyone, of course, but enough for Thir to be glad he didn't have pockets.
Thir, utilizing his walking stick,, made his slow and heavy way through the streets, noticing things that simply should not be. He noticed young boys following adults far too closely. He noticed the way people watched the stores, very obviously not window shopping. Thir sighed to himself, his left fist pounding against the street in succession to his walking stick. There were times when he regretted deeply his attempts to understand the darker side to any given situation. But it must be done. For the pursuit of knowledge, he told himself. For understanding, he said.
Sometimes, Thir couldn't believe how undeniably stupid he sounded, couldn't believe the lengths he would go to just for a little insight into the lives that others lead, an insight into the world around him.
He grunted to himself, doing his best to ignore the wandering eyes of those around him.
Stupid. he called himself. He knew it wasn't true. Or, at least compared to humans. Thir didn't indulge himself in knowing his own mental keenness, yet if he were to be completely honest to himself and his own mental capability, he was smarter than anyone in sight. The thought made him feel good. But the feeling didn't last long. The constant flaws of this city were seemingly apparent everywhere the ape looked. Just once, once, did he wish to find beauty in this city. Something pure of heart. Something, anything at all.
