Kechaiya was tired of boiled potatoes. She had decided to go and buy herself a small squab, already plucked and cleaned. She'd never made one before, but how hard could it be? Setting the bird in the middle of her table, she just sat there and stared at it, trying to decide how to cook it. She could try putting it on her fork and cooking it directly over the fire. But that would take forever, and she really didn't want to be holding it up the whole time. That just left her pot. Perhaps instead of using a lot of water, she could just use a little. Plucking the pot from its place, she set it on the table as well. Tipping her waterskin over it, she put a small layer of water in the bottom. Only about an inch. Grabbing a potato and her eating knife, she began chopping it up in terribly oblong, unevenly sized pieces, and tossed them in the pot with a flourish and a splash.

She pulled out some pouches from her herbalism kit, and began sprinkling in leaves from Batonal and Vyfox, and large chunks of Gigar root, along with some salt. Satisfied, she threw the squab in, and set the pot in the fire. She knew she had quite a bit of time to kill, so she grabbed her sewing kit and plopped herself down on her bed to practice her stitches and strengthen her hands. She liked to just stitch in random designs into her blanket that didn't look like anything to anyone but her. Grabbing a large needle, she threaded it, and after pulling out a hefty portion, bit it off and knotted it. She stuck the needle into the fabric, and brought it back up a small distance away. She pulled it all the way through til the knot caught, then she sent the needle back down through across from the first entry point, bringing it back up across from the first exit point. She did this several times until she had a bunch of tiny parallel, and occasionally, crooked lines.

She then began doing it the opposite direction, forming a conga line of X's across her blanket. She didn't know if this had a name, nor did she care, just enjoying it. Losing track of time, she stitched and stitched, until the smell of smoke struck her nostrils. Cursing in Tawna, something akin to a goat's mother being especially prurient during the hottest of days, she threw the blanket to the side and rushed to her hearth. She got the pot out of the fire and set it on the table as smoke started rising out of it, forcing a cough from her lungs. Rushing over to her door, she opened it up so the smoke had somewhere to go, curses still flying all over the room. Grabbing a plate and a fork, she stabbed into the dark pot over and over until it struck something fleshy. Pulling it out, she saw her squab was now as black as he eyes. Tossing it on her plate in frustration, she sat down in her chair and sighed loudly. She couldn't waste the food, but she was not looking forward to the chalky taste of burnt pigeon.

Bear Scratch Fever (Dor'gen, Firenze)

This day had turned out to be quite interesting.

What had begun as a simple jog to better understand the northern layout of the city had turned into a chance encounter. The Akalak, known as Dor'gen, happened upon a battle of life and death between a bear...and a tiger of all things! Compelled by his piety to both Navre and Myri, he intervened on the situation and assisted the tigeress against her foe...only to discover that she was not an ordinary feline. In a brilliant flash of light, she transformed before his very eyes; revealing the form of a human woman. The exchange between the two was brief, for the tigeress had sustained injuries in the fighting...injuries that were now in dire need of addressing. Time was of the essence, and Dor'gen took it upon himself to be her ferry into the city to seek help.

Thus, bearing her in his arms, the Akalak began to briskly move from the north until they had arrived in the city. (Fortunately, the tigeress was not exactly heavy in her human form.) For several chimes, he inquired from passersby as to where there might be one who could render medical assistance to the wounded woman within his arms. Some simply shrugged, others addressed him with the utmost rudeness, and a handful gave suggestions. One man in particular gave the woman a rather...lustful...look and attempted to steer the Akalak towards a supposed clinic located in the Slaver's portion of the city; yet Dor'gen sincerely doubted the intentions of this one. Instead, he continued along with his petitions for aide until a consistent name was dropped.

Kechaiya. The black-eyed woman. Kechaiya.

Apparently she was an herbalist of some sort who helped out at the Orphanage. This was a significantly better option that all those suggested thus far, so Dor'gen chomped at the bit. As quickly as he possibly could, he headed off in the direction of the Sunset Quarters until ultimately he was pointed in the direction of Kechaiya's residence. By now, the light of Syna was beginning to dip below the horizon; and only a handful of stairs stood between the tigeress and assistance. Taking them one at a time, for fear of tumbling, Dor'gen ascended the steps and rounded the corner upon reaching the top. He was then greeted by the smell of smoke and the din of curses hurled in a foreign tongue. "Please let this be the place." he prayed, braving the smoke until he gently rapped on the doorframe with his boot.

"Hello? Hello! Is there a Kechaiya here? My friend is wounded and needs help, please!" he said aloud.

Firenze felt horrible. Smacking her tongue against the roof of her mouth, trying to rehydrate the inside of it. She wasn't sure when she'd passed out, only remembering Dor'gen lifting her up into his arms and then walking away from the woods. The lull and rocking of his arms, mingled with the pain from her wounds, she'd passed out as he carried her back to Sunberth.

Waking after they'd already entered the city, she tried to move her head a little to see where they were and what was going on. Dor'gen had approached a man dressed in black and was asking directions to someone that might be able to stitch her up. Although, she wasn't paying much attention, she moved her hand under the cloak wrapped around her, trying to keep pressure on her side. A slight hiss escaping her lips as her fingers touched the raw flesh surrounding the wound.

The scratches were somewhat deep, about an inch or so, jagged and ran along her side, starting about the height of her belly button and running like a bright red crooked gash, in the same fashion that a stream might make a crooked path through a forrest, down to the top of her thigh and curving around to the front of her hip.

Looking around, Fire noticed Dor'gen approaching another man, he was rather dingy looking, his clothes somewhat tattered and you could smell the stench of him from a few ticks away. Dor' asked the man the same question he'd asked all the others, where to find assistance. The man smiled darkly and was looking at Firenze. She pulled the cloak tighter with her free hand and tried to get closer to Dor'gen, hoping they weren't going to go with the man who was trying to take them to a clinic over in the Slaver's area. She did not want to go that way.

Thankfully, Dor'gen declined his offer and walked briskly away, smart enough to realize that the man was just trying to take them to make himself some mizas. They continued down their path of questioning, until she realized he'd stopped asking people where to find someone to stitch her up and actually started moving at a quicker pace in the direction of some housing. He started to climb some stairs and the movement of being jostled up and down had pains shooting out from her wound, causing her to grimace.

Once at the top of the stairs, she could make out someone talking, though she couldn't understand what they were saying. Dor'gen moved toward the door with her in his arms and she heard him whisper under his breath, "Please let this be the place." She was hoping it was the place too because she wasn't sure how much more blood she could lose before something really bad happened.

Hands full, she felt as he tipped her slightly when he lifted his foot to boot the door in a mock sort of rapping noise, trying to catch the attention of whoever might be inside. "Hello? Hello! Is there a Kechaiya here? My friend is wounded and needs help, please!" Dor'gen bellowed and she prayed that it was indeed the correct place.

Kechaiya was about to cut into her piss poor meal when she heard a knock at the door followed by an unfamiliar voice calling out her name. They claimed to have a wounded friend, but it could just as well be some vagabond that spotted the open door and decided to try his luck at robbing her. Quickly finding her dagger, she made her way along the wall toward the door. Her footsteps were trying to be sneaky, but her floorboards had other plans. Much of the smoke had escaped the house by now, as she crept closer and closer to the door, dagger in her right hand. Keeping it close to the wall, she was fully prepared to stab whoever or whatever came through the door.

But nothing did. And she waited for several long moments, before peering out with a single black eye. At first, all she saw was what appeared to be a cloaked woman with a purple arm floating in a sea of darkness. Looking a little closer, she saw that the purple arms didn't belong to her, but the massive being carrying her, whom she assumed was the one who had called for help. Petching Hai was he tall compared to the barely over five foot tall doctor. She hadn't the slightest idea as to what race he might be, but it sure as petch wasn't human. And at his size, she soon realized that the dagger in her hand would be next to useless.

Glancing up at, way up at the man's eyes, and then stepping into the doorway fully. The woman was after all, probably a patient, assuming they could answer the most important question. "Have mizas?" The harshness of Sunberth had made it so the woman gave no treatment without first receiving payment. In her early days, she'd given out treatment, costing time and supplies, only to have the person flee after, leaving her stuck with the cost of replacing them. But she'd learned her lesson, and was not about to let them in without at least proof that they could pay for it. He could crush her, barge in, do as he pleased, but he couldn't force her to fix his friend.

Assuming he had the coin, she curtly replied, "Come." She quickly began clearing the table, tossing her ruined food into the fire, and dumping out the contents of the pot. She moved all the supplies that occupied the table either to the mantle over the hearth or into her various kits. When the table was cleared, the woman could be laid across it. Kech began pulling out the supplies she would need first. Bandages, clean rags, the grain alcohol, and snips to cut away any clothing that might be in the way. Maintaining her professional calm, she looked at the man, "What happen?"

Bear Scratch Fever (Dor'gen, Firenze)

No sooner had the words formed and fallen from the Akalak's lips that a brief silence befell the corridor. There was no sound which came from the inside of the apartment before them; nor any other door on the floor for that matter. However, Dor'gen held out hope that this was the right place. Looking down to the injured woman within his arms, a reassuring smile was given. He even cradled her closer to his form, as if to offer some sort of comfort in the midst of her pain. "Just hold on." he said softly, "This has to be the right place. It just has to be." Indeed, the Akalak desperately hoped that this was the case; for Firenze had lost quite a bit of blood during the trip over. He was no doctor, but even he knew that if she continued to bleed like that, it would lead to her demise.

On baited breath, Dor'gen stood in the hall...until the creaking of floorboards gave away the presence of the doctor just behind the door. Hope immediately manifested itself within his eyes as the sound of creaking footsteps grew louder and louder...until a single, black eye peered forth from the door's opening. There was a tick of apprehensive looking up and down on the part of the eye, before the door swung open to reveal a woman. She was shorter than the Akalak (but who wasn't?) and was characterized by a darker-than-average skin tone. While it was not the same as the Myrians of Taloba, it was indeed similar. At once, she addressed him in an accented, broken form of Common that spoke volumes of where they all stood.

This was Sunberth. Money was the foundation of everything.

"Yes, I have money. I'll pay your price. Please, help her." he said quickly. To this, the woman responded by allowing the Akalak to enter her domicle. It was not much...but then again, neither was the vast majority of the sordid city. For a few ticks, Dor'gen simply stood and watched as the doctor cleaned up her space enough for the procedure to begin. When prompted by the clearance of the table, the Akalak took a few steps and gently laid Firenze down upon it. He then reached for her hand and gave it a confident squeeze, beaming ever so slightly. "See? Told you this was the place." Upon hearing the broken Common once more, Dor'gen turned to face the woman. His arms, as per his habit, folded as he responded with the short version.

"We were north of town and got attacked by a bear." he said, convieniently leaving out the vast majority of the details. After all, the doctor didn't need to know that Firenze was a shape-shifting Kelvic. She also didn't know that the bear was beaten within an inch of its life by Dor'gen's timely intervention. In his opinion, his answer was sufficient. "Will she be alright?" he inquired, asking the most obvious question right off the bat.

As Dor'gen set his foot back down, Firenze could feel him pull her closer to him. The warmth emanating from his body through the thick fabric of his cloak and seeped into her, warming her a bit. Shivering, she snuggled her face into the crook of his big shoulder, almost completely hiding her face. She felt safe and warm and was glad that this man had found her. She had just learned his name only a few bells ago but she felt that she could trust him. He did safe her life after all.

"Just hold on." he said softly, "This has to be the right place. It just has to be." It made her feel closer to him that he was so concerned about her being hurt. It also made her wonder why he was so concerned with a complete stranger? What did I do to deserve such kindenss?

Lost in her thoughts, head resting on Dor'gen's shoulder, her ears perked as she heard the creak of a door. Turning her head slightly she watched as black eyes peeped out at them. Black. Eyes. She had seen some strange things today, and the Gods decided that it was going to become stranger.

The woman opened the door wider and then spoke, Firenze noticed that her common was kind of broken and realized that she must not be from Sunberth, "Have Mizas?" The woman eyed them skeptically as if she were ready to close the door on them, irritated at something Fire was unsure of, but also not happy about the unexpected company... at least while there was still the possibility that she might not make mizas off of the intruders.

"Yes, I have money. I'll pay your price. Please, help her." Dor'gen replied to the woman standing in the door way, he seemed eager to get her into the house. Firenze knew it was bad, but she really couldn't see much and wondered if he was seeing something she wasn't aware of and if it might be worse then what she thought it was. Fire knew how she was feeling, it was not good, the thought of it being worse then how she felt scared her.

After Dor let the black eyed woman know that she would be getting paid this evening for her services, she pulled the door wide, letting them into her home. Firenze's relief at finding someone that could help her dumped her into a crash of emotions. She wanted to cry, scream and hug the man who'd brought her here, she couldn't breathe in deep enough to scream, and she couldn't stand up to give him a hug, so she gave herself up to crying silently. The tears running down the sides of her face, she made herself a promise to repay him when she was feeling better.

The woman started to clear off the table making room for Dor'gen to place Firenze. Once the area was cleared and the lady of the house started gathering supplies, Dor'gen gently laid Fire on the table top. The jostling of her body from the movements caused more blood to weep out of her semi-fresh wound and pain to shoot out, down her leg and up her side. "See? Told you this was the place." She turned her face toward him watching him as he spoke. Panicking for a moment she wondered if he was going to leave, now that he had taken care to get her to a place that would stitch her up and send her on her merry way.

As Dor'gen went to move away, Firenze reached out her hand and grabbed his, not wanting him to leave. Two of his large fingers wrapped in her palm, she held as tight as she could to make sure that he would notice that she wanted him to stay. "What happen?" the woman asked from behind Firenze, moving about the room, finding supplies that she needed. Fire turned her head slightly trying to see where the woman was and what she was doing.

"We were north of town and got attacked by a bear." Dor'gen told the woman and Fire nodded her head in agreement. She wasn't sure if she should tell the woman everything that had happened or not. Fire didn't know if she could trust to tell her that she was a Kelvic. She felt that it was best to just keep that information with herself and let Dor'gen do the talking, since he was a bit more aware then she was.

She turned her head back to Dor as he spoke to the woman, shivering under the cloak as the cold from the table took the heat that she had gotten from being tucked into Dor'gen's arms. She felt really vulnerable at that moment. She didn't have on any clothing, which normally she didn't worry too much about, but she also didn't have any of her things. No dagger to protect herself, not even her locket. Oh! My locket! more tears leaked out of the sides of her eyes as she thought about how her locket and all her clothing must be gone by now. She made a mental note to try to figure out a different way of hiding her things in the future.

The woman came to her side, Firenze figured she might want to see what she had to work with. Not letting go of Dor'gen's hand she used her free hand to pull back the cloak. Her naked flesh exposed for everyone to see, the bright red marks shone with fresh and drying blood, it was smeared down her side and soaked into the cloth where it had been covering the wound. New blood leaked slowly out and the raised red flesh trailed from about where the top of her hip was, but not quite as high as her belly button. It ran like a bloody river down the length of her until it came to the top of her thigh and then it curved around to the front of her hip.

Firenze tried to prop up on her elbow to see how bad it was. Staring at the actual damage of what had happened, she watched as a stream of of blood trickled down and ran to the crutch of her legs. Nausea hit her and her eyes rolled back, arms going limp, her grip leaving it's place around Dor'gen's hand she slumped back on the table. Her head thunked onto the table top and rolled to the side. And a blissful blackness over took Fire.

As the large purple man laid the woman upon the table, the cloak falling away to reveal her naked and bloodied form. Where was her clothes? She was sure even the mightiest of warriors would run rather than fight a bare naked. She cast a look of pure accusation and suspicion at the large man. After all, he'd been the only one to speak. For all she knew, he'd assaulted her physically and sexually, then brought her here to make the poor woman someone else's problem. It wouldn't be the first time this happened in Sunberth, nor would it be the last. It didn't help that the woman had tears in the corners of her eyes just now forming, clearly not older ones caused by the pain.

But it was not her place to worry about reasons and motives. She did this for coin after all. Looking to the man who claimed to be paying, "One gold for exam, four gold for stitching. Put coin on table." Kechaiya would only begin her work when payment was received. She never collected it until after, but she at least made sure they had the required amount. And she now got a really good look at the wound, and it wasn't pretty. There were four jagged lines running from just below her navel, down to her thigh, then cutting back across her hip. Thankfully, they didn't appear too deep because the flesh wasn't turned outward, and weren't real wide. Still, it was a lot of work ahead of her. It would take a fair amount of time to stitch her up. But that wasn't the most pressing issue.

The woman had lost a lot of blood, and was only alive because no organs or major veins had been hit. If they had, the man would've delivered a barely warm corpse. Kechaiya moved away to grab a jar of Brinetooth paste, to restore some of the woman's strength and vitality, when she heard a thunk on wood. Petching Hai, she'd passed out! If she was passed out, she couldn't get the herb she needed. Scrambling through her pack she grabbed a pouch that had a thick, dried root in it known as Flametoe. Waving it beneath the woman's nose, she knew it would revive her. Tossing it back in the pouch and back into the pack, she finally got the jar of Brinetooth paste and passed it to the purple man. "Make her eat all. Make strong, help fight lose blood."

She knew it would take a handful of chimes for the woman to feel it, but when she did, the grogginess would leave her, and she'd feel a bit more attentive and aware. Since staunching the slow oozing blood was fairly pointless now, she set to work on preparing the healing poultice. Grabbing her waterskin, she poured a few draws of it into her cooking pot, a shallow pool in the bottom, and hung it over the fire. Returning to her supplies, she grabbed four pouches. Judging on the extent of the wound, she would need all of the contents. She dumped the Belltor leaves, powdered Jile bark, and Vyfox leaves into the water. Reaching into the fourth pouch, she grabbed a handful of the Jile berries and squished them in her fist over the pot, squeezing out all the juice and meat, before discarding the skins into the fire. It didn't take long for the small amount of liquid to boil and grabbing a wooden spoon, Kech stirred the substance. She kept at it until the water boiled off leaving behind a sticky poultice. Scooping it out into a bowl, she carried it back to the table and wiped her hands off on a rag.

Kechaiya opened her grain alcohol and splashed her hands with it, rubbing them until dry, to get them clean. She then dunked most of the rag into the clear liquid, and looked at Firenze, "This hurt," then looking at the man, "Keep her still." Unnecessary movement, especially pained thrashing, could cause the wounds to tear further. Starting with the outer most slash, Kechaiya pressed the doused rag firmly into the top of the exposed flesh. It would burn and sting like fire, but after several agonizing ticks of it, her body would adapt to the pain. Slowly she worked her way down the wound, scrubbing firmly, but not so hard as to cause further damage to the tissue. She repeated the process for the rest of the slashes, but as she did it for the inner most one, she felt something strange in the wound, something hard, that wasn't supposed to be there. Setting aside the rag, she grabbed a pair of tweezers, and spread the wound slightly with her fingertips. She saw something smooth and brown lodge within there. Head steadily moving forward, she plucked at it, and it came loose easily. Holding it up to the light, she realized that it was about a half inch of the tip of a claw. Perhaps she was wrong, for there was no way this belonged to the man.

Setting the claw fragment on the table next to the woman, she went back with the cleaning rag, finishing the last wound. Cleaning her hands once more, she dipped two fingers into the warm poultice and began spreading it inside each of the valleys of the flesh, making sure to coat the entire interiors of them. The Vyfox would stop the bleeding, the Jile berries and bark would help prevent infection, and the Belltor would help the wound to heal and lessen the scarring. Now that the wound wouldn't bleed further, the woman was out of the woods. Giving the poultice time to work, Kechaiya began cleaning the skin of the blood around the wounds, "Soon I start stitch. Will take long. Danger pass."

She would need to use several vertical mattress sutures, corner sutures, and simple interrupted sutures, estimating at least two bells to do them all. Taking the coin, she left one on the table, and looked up to the man. "Go buy food. Bread, honey, any fruit can find. She need, I need keep hands steady." The food would keep her from cramping up during the suturing and would help her patient stay awake and keep her energy up. She still had several chimes before the poultice would allow her to get to work, so she sat down preparing herself for the long process ahead.

Bear Scratch Fever (Dor'gen, Firenze)

Although the Akalak was not a stranger to seeing medical work performed, it was a new experience to accompany one who obviously needed his presence. His own body, a living history characterized by countless scars, had been the recipient of stitching work time and time again. In those days, he was always told to suck it up and fight through the pain; for he was a soldier of Myri. Weakness was not to be tolerated! However, the woman he had carried all throughout Sunberth was not a soldier. She was somewhat of an enigma to the Akalak: strong, yet vulnerable. The women of Taloba were endlessly strong, for theirs was society to lead...yet here, on the other side of the known world, women such as Firenze existed.

While this perplexed Dor'gen to no end, the simple fact remained that he could not bring himself to abandon her. There were many who would have seen delivering the woman to a medical practitioner as the conclusion of their assistance; for through that act her survival was guaranteed. However, the Akalak felt differently. For reasons utterly beyond him, he felt compelled to stay until he was absolutely certain that she was alright. Perhaps it was because, for the first time in so long, he felt needed...and that sensation reminded him of a happier point in his life. Eventually, the squeeze of the woman's fingers about his own snapped him from the train of thought which occupied his attention. Turning, he offered Firenze a confident smile before being addressed by the broken Common once more.

Coin. She demanded coin.

Reaching for his belt pouch, the Akalak quickly fumbled about for a moment until he produced the five, gold-rimmed mizas that were required. Setting them down upon the table, he then gave a nod to the doctor. At once, his blood-stained cloak was pulled back and the damage was revealed...to all three sets of eyes within the room. Two sets were accustomed to seeing such bloody wounds...while one was not. Firenze, upon taking a gander, passed out. The thump of her head upon the table coupled with the slacking of her fingers upon his hand was a cause of immense alarm for the Akalak, for a small part of him thought the absolute worst. However, the doctor knew what to do. She procured a plant that Dor'gen had never seen before and waved it over Firenze's nose...which miraculously brought her back!

"Oh thank Myri." he breathed, holding fast to Firenze's hand. "What plant was that?" he then inquired out of sheer curiosity. Yet, before he could so much as expect a reply, a container of...paste? was tossed to the Akalak. Catching it awkwardly in his offhand, Dor'gen then took a gander at it whilst hearkening to the woman's instructions. "Understood." he said, before placing the whole of his attention upon Firenze. Due to his lacking any sort of utensil to feed it to her with, the Akalak took a moment to improvise. Setting the jar upon the table, Dor'gen then reached for his waterskin and cleansed his fingertips with a few drops. Now free of dirt, sweat, and other such things, the Akalak stowed his waterskin.

This was gonna be awkward.

Reaching for the woman, he cradled her head up with his offhand before dipping his now-cleaned fingertips into the paste. He then shoveled out a modest amount before carefully ferrying the paste to her lips. "Fire." he said, "You have to eat this." With that said, Dor'gen set about the process of feeding Firenze the paste one bite at a time. He did not jam his fingers rudely into her mouth, of course, but waited for her lips to part of her own volution. He'd then slip his fingertips just past her teeth and await her tongue lapping the substance up. Once he felt the paste disappear, he promptly repeated the process. This went on until the jar was all practically emptied of its contents; and Dor'gen noticed immediately vitality returning to the woman.

He also noticed that heat had decided to rush to his face with every touch of her tongue, ultimately settling upon his cheeks. Wasn't anything like a blushing Akalak to make medicine even more fun.

As Dor'gen fed Firenze the paste, the doctor set about preparing the next step in treatment. The Akalak could hear the clang of a pot and the splash of ingredients being tossed within it. After the paste had been consumed, Kechaiya returned and cleansed her hand with a liquid that looked like water; but smelled vastly different. She then dampened a rag with the same liquid and instructed Dor'gen to hold Firenze down. Nodding, he took a moment to wipe off his hand upon his pants before gently restraining the Kelvic. His offhand came to rest upon her left shoulder whilst his dominant hand rested on her thigh. Through this, he prevented flailing or kicking on Firenze's part and allowed the doctor to set about working without delay.

All the while, Dor'gen's eyes never left those of the Kelvic's. He refused to look away, and simply said: "Fight through the pain Fire. You can do this." After a few moments of Kechaiya working to cleanse and treat the wound, she then addressed Dor'gen in the same broken Common. Apparently she was going to begin stitching soon, but there was a window of opportunity for the Akalak to procure her some food. This was, at least by Dor'gen's interpretation, a vital step in the process...but no further details were given on the matter. Reaching for Firenze's hand, the Akalak gave a confident squeeze and offered his signature smile. "Don't go anywhere," he joked with a light chuckle, "I'll be right back with something for you to eat."

With a hint of reluctance, the Akalak released the Kelvic's hand and backed out of the room...before bounding down the stairs as fast as his legs could carry him. Taking them three at a time, he then jumped over the last five and thundered to a halt at the bottom. Speed was demanded of his body in that instant, and he began to run. Bursting forth from the building, Dor'gen began literally sprinting as fast as he could westward. While he was not an expert on the layout of Sunberth yet, he did have enough of a clue to know where the Seaside Market was; and it was by far the closest of the two commercial centers. As such, he set his sights on this particular location and committed; running until his lungs demanded rest. Reluctantly, he slowed his pace to that of a brisk walk and set his hands on the top of his head. Long, panting breaths were drawn as he moved along...and as soon as he steadied himself, he resumed running as fast as he could.

This process was repeated until he finally arrived at the series of stalls known as the Seaside Market. Sweeping his eyes frantically across the space, Dor'gen noticed a series of stalls selling fruit, breads, and other such vittles. His feet moved in a jog as he then engaged each of these merchants and purchased*-1 sm: Honey (Pint), -5 sm (Meal, Common) a few pieces of fruit, a half loaf of bread, and a pint of honey. Quickly stowing these in his pack, Dor'gen then repeated the process of returning back to Kechaiya's residence as swiftly as possible. Upon his eventual return chimes later, Dor'gen was a panting mess. He took a moment to stop outside of the building's entrance in order to catch his breath and compose himself; for he didn't want to stumble in like a panting animal.

Mopping his brow of sweat, Dor'gen finally caught his breath and then proceeded inside. He ascended the steps quickly before admitting himself into Kechaiya's residence once more; taking a moment to knock first and announce that it was him. After all, barging in would have been very rude...especially in Sunberth. Once inside, he dropped his pack and retrieved the foodstuffs; setting them on the table within reach of Firenze. Of course, he took it upon himself to take a piece of fruit and personally offer it to her. "Fresh from the stalls." he said, with a smile.

Nothing. There was absolute and blissful nothingness. Until all of a sudden there was definitely a something, and it smelled terrible! Her mind awakening, the horrid scent burning her nostrils, Firenze peeked open one of her lids. Pain shot up her side and she began to realize where she was again. Lying nude in front of Dor'gen and Kechaiya, on her table. Heat flushed her cheeks as she realized what had happened. Glancing over at Dor'gen, he was asking Kechaiya a question about an herb and what it did. Kechaiya's response to his questioning, was shoving something at him, telling him to have Fire... eat it?

Trying to lie as still as possible, she only moved her eyes to see what Kechaiya had handed to him. He had taken to cleaning his hands and then dipping them into the paste that was in the container that he was holding. "Fire," he spoke softly, "you have to eat this." She wasn't sure what it was but she was hoping that it wouldn't be as terrible as whatever it was that had woken her. As Dor'gen dipped his fingers in the paste, gently placed his hand under her head and brought his fingers to her lips, she hesitated for a moment. Debating on whether she should eat it or not. Kechaiya is the doctor (or so she hoped), I guess it's supposed to help me.

Opening her mouth, Dor'gen slipped his large fingers between her lips, and she took to licking them off, her tongue brushing against his skin, his fingers leaving her mouth with a pop. It tasted of... Brinetooth! She knew these berries! Savoring the now familiar taste in her mouth, she let Dor'gen slide his fingers back into her mouth with more paste. Firenze watched him while he fed her, a blush creeping across his cheeks caused her to forget her pain for a moment and made her smile a little.

So focused on the large purple man feeding her the berry paste that she didn't notice when the woman had come back to her side, until there was a rustling of cloth next to her. "This hurt," Kechaiya informed them, "keep her still." Hurt! More?! She was already hurting and the woman wanted to hurt her more! She started to panic a little as Dor'gen rested his hand on her shoulder, preparing himself to hold her down. Then he placed his other hand on her thigh and she completely forgot for a moment why he was holding her down. "Fight through the pain Fire. You can do this." He was starting into her eyes, silver watching gold, as Kechaiya placed a rag soaked with alcohol onto her wounds.

A scream ripped from her throat and she wanted to flail about, but the steady pressure of Dor'gen's hands kept her in place. After a few chimes passed, the pain started to recede some what while Kechaiya worked on her. For a moment Fire noticed that she had stopped and was pulling at something in one of the scratch marks. She watched as the woman held up a pair of tweezers to the light and squinted her dark eyes at it. Oh my Gods, it's part of the bears claws. She watched as Kechaiya set the tweezers and the claw piece down next to her.

She came back with another paste and started applying it to Firenze's wounds. "Soon I start stitch. Will take long. Danger pass." She looked up to Dor'gen, "Go buy food. Bread, honey, any fruit can find. She need, I need keep hands steady." Food didn't sound particularly good to Firenze at the moment but if she needed it then, she needed it. She was starting to relax a little bit on the table. She'd already been there for quite some time now and felt pretty comfortable around Kechaiya. Her common was pretty rough, but for the most part she seemed to know what she was doing, and to Firenze at this point that's all that mattered.

Not sure of how long had passed they waited for Dor'gen to return with the food. Kechaiya sitting in a chair nearby, while Firenze relaxed on the table as much as she possibly could. She'd pretty much forgotten that she was naked, so getting comfortable was only a matter of potential pain caused by her scratches upon shifting.

Quite a few chimes had passed and finally Dor walked through the door, he laid his pack on the ground and put the food that had been asked for next to Firenze. He picked up one of the pieces of fruit and held it toward her, "Fresh from the stalls." She didn't know if she should take it from him, or if he was wanting to feed her again. Considering he'd already fed her the Brinetooth paste, she assumed he would want to feed her again. Holding her mouth open slightly she waited to see if he would indeed place the fruit into her mouth.

Bear Scratch Fever (Dor'gen, Firenze)

Kechaiya was a bit surprised that the Akalak hadn't taken the single gold miza from the table that she'd left for the food. But if he was going to spend his own coin, she wasn't going to complain, as she took it and slipped it into her coin pouch. While he was gone, she opened her sewing kit and took out her curved sutures needle, and the two clamps that she used with it. Grabbing the thread, she did a quick threading, managing to get it right on the third attempt. She organized her tools next to the woman's body on the wounded side. Her sewing kit was on the far left, scissors sitting on top. To the right of that was extra rags, followed by her jar of grain alcohol that currently contained her clamps. Continuing right was clean bandages and the remaining poultice.

She looked up at the raps on the door, as the purple man returned, food in tow. When he set it down, Kechaiya left the fruit for the woman, and broke off a chunk of bread and dunked it in the honey and ate it quickly. Looking at him, "You make her eat, keep still. No hurt much, but is care work." With that taken care of, Kech took a deep breath, focusing herself on the work to come. She splashed her hands with the alcohol one last time, and grabbed her clamps. With her right clamp, she picked up her needle, and dipped it into the alcohol, and decided to start on the farthest wound from her, at the top of the leg.

She needed to get the vertical mattress sutures done first to better close the wound. Eyeballing the jagged lines, she figured about six of them would be needed. Starting the first about two inches up from the end of the laceration on the woman's thigh, Kech pushed the needle into the skin from a little less than inch from the wound. She pushed it deep, roughly two-thirds of an inch down, before curving it toward the wound's valley. She felt it pierce into the emptiness, and could see the tip breaking through the layer of poultice. Using her other clamp she pulled it through, then pushed it in the other side directly across, and steered it upward after nearly an inch. When it breached the surface, she pulled it through, and then sent it back down halfway between the exit point and the wound. The needle went half as deep as it had previously, and she sent it across the chasm, directly above the previous line. Piercing the opposing side, she brought it up through the skin halfway between the starting entrance and the wound. Once through, she pulled it taut, watching as the skin closed itself at that particular point. She then tied a quick double square knot, and used her scissors to snip the excess. One down, many more to go.

She moved another half inch up the wound and began the process once more. These stitches were slow work, especially with the clamps, a necessity to help prevent infection. Each vertical mattress stitch took nearly two full chimes, and there were six in this small stretch of skin across the woman's upper thigh leading to her hip. It was nestled between the end of the slash and where it turned suddenly away. When the verticals were done, she began on the simple interrupting sutures that ran from the end to the beginning of the verticals. She used these because the wound was much shallower here and didn't need the double anchoring of the verticals.

Pushing the needle through the skin about a half inch from the wound, about a quart inch from the actual end, it sank a half inch before curving toward the valley. She drove it through and brought it back up a half inch on the opposite side. She then brought the ends together and tied them off with a double square knot. Kechaiya continued these sutures every half inch until she reached the vertical sutures.

She then moved on to the jagged corner. This one was a little trickier and was actually five sutures all together. She did the approach toward the corner itself with two vertical mattress sutures at a half inch and one inch from the corner, as well as on the departure. She then stuck the needle into the skin a quarter inch from the corner, on the approach side, and sunk it a quarter of an inch deep, and sent to the opposite side. From there, rather than bringing it back up through the skin, she curved it around, and sent toward the departure side of the wound, bring it up opposite the entry. She the tied off with a double square and snipped it.

Kechaiya continued in this fashion along the length of the first wound, using the verticals on the deeper areas, corner sutures where it ran jagged, and simple interrupted sutures on the shallower straight stretches. When it was finished, there was a stitch every half inch or so coming to a grand total of twenty four stitches. She could've easily done twice as many had she wanted to keep the scarring minimal, but quite frankly she hadn't been asked, and would've demanded twice as much payment. Kechaiya set down her tools, and rubbed at her forearms, cracking her neck, and prepared herself for the last three lacerations.

During her rest, she decided to ask the question she'd entertained earlier, "Why you naked when fight bear?"
