Kechaiya watched as he drew that massive blade of his. Gods was everything of this Akalak race huge? She nodded back at him as he turned and left leaving her alone. Kechaiya was no stranger to being ambushed and chased in Sunberth, especially this crazy petching season. But she normally didn't go looking for it, certainly not enticing it. For a brief moment, she considered leaving the man to his fate, and using the coin she'd pay him to buy some other food for the children. But ten golds wouldn't go far with the shortage ravaging the city, and who would she even buy it from. All of her eggs were in his basket right now. And that meant sucking it up and doing the damnable job.

If past experience told her anything, being a woman was often enough to entice really bad men to give chase. In a brief moment of humor she had considered calling out an insult to them, much like Dor'gen had in the tavern. Once the purple man was out of sight, keeping her hood down so that the men would be able to discern her as female more easily. She began walking forward down the road, still unable to see what the man had seen. When she was within a stone's throw, she saw them around the box just as Dor'gen had said, and if she could see them, that meant they could see her. And she could hear them talking and laughing amongst themselves. Not able to make out the words, she tried to remember the insult that Dor'gen had slung.

In her broken Common, she shouted at the men, "I petch mother. You loose. Good lay. Thank." Nailed it.

And for a moment, all four men looked at her with the most surprised, confuddled visages. The leader walked up to her, chuckling, "Oy, you say you petched my mother? Cuz a pretty thing like you shouldn't be diving in skirts when there's plenty of fine swords for you to sheathe here. We'll be gentle, I promise, and like you say, I am in fact, a good lay."

They both had heard the roar from the alley, and were looking back at the other men. The leader had forgotten all about the woman in front of him, as he began drawing his blade, his back to her. But Kech's blade was already in hand, and she knew enough about the body to know not to stab high where the ribs might protect him from her feeble attack, as well as to not stab near the spine for the same reason. And she didn't want to kill, but had no problem with maiming. So with a tight grip, she stabbed forward, not aiming for any of the vital points, but rather the meaty flesh of the man's rump. The blade sunk into the meat with an upward angle, but was rather deep as it had not been expected in the least bit.

The man flinched forward, ripping the dagger from her hand, hollering loudly, turning toward her with extreme disbelief, "Who the petch stabs a man in the ass?! Who petching does that?!" Sword drawn, he limped toward her, his right leg not entirely useless, but nowhere near as strong as it was without a dagger embedded in it. Kech started backing up fearfully, as he continued limping toward her. She was not about to get anywhere near the sword, especially without any form of protection. But she did notice that he wasn't moving quickly in the least bit, and she wonder if the blade was impeding his hip bone. "I'm gonna petchin kill you bitch. Carve that pretty face good."

She removed her pack and held it between her, just in case he was able to close the distance, still backing up. Then she just turned and ran, realizing he couldn't catch her. But she wasn't leaving her companion. She remembered a stack of empty crates near the water's edge, likely waiting to be filled and loaded on a merchant vessel. "Oy, I'm gonna get you bitch, you can't hide from me!" Steering toward the crates, she suddenly slowed, and made pained noises, clutching at an "injury" she'd gotten in her leg. "Ha, stupid woman can't even run right."

Kechaiya ducked behind the crates, as if to hide from him. She peered out around the stack able to somewhat see him, and could hear his heavy breathing and dragging leg lumbering closer. She got her hands beneath the edge of the top most crate and began straining to push it up and forward. Being empty, it wouldn't take much to topple them, but she was small and rather weak. Grunting straining, she tried to boost it with her thighs before the stack pitched forward. "Argh!" was all she heard before they crashed in a cacophony of splintering wood.

Moving around the rubble, it appeared the man was unconscious, face down, sword no longer in his grasp. She pulled away some wood, digging in until she saw the hilt of her dagger. Grasping it firmly, she yanked it out as blood dripped around. She then started running back, to try and help Dor'gen further if she could.

It's About Sending a Message (Dor'gen)

The plan had gone off without so much as a hitch...at least initially.

The initial moments of the Akalak's bold charge had taken two of the five Snakes out of the equation. The first was unfortunate enough to have been propelled to the earth by a solid thrust of Dor'gen's shoulder; backed by the momentum of a sprint and over three hundred points of solid purple. The collision had sent the man to the ground so hard that his head thumped upon the stone rather hard. While this was not enough to slay the man, it was more than enough to leave him in a near-unconsious daze. The second entered into the same world of pain as his comrade; although this time it was much, much worse. Moving by way of the same momentum, the Akalak caught the man's chin with his shield; driving steel and spikes into the flesh of his face.

With a broken jaw and severely punctured flesh, the second aggressor fell to the earth; thereby leaving three Snakes to contend with.

Almost straightway, the surprise of the onslaught eroded and Dor'gen was beset by a trio of opponents. By wielding his divinely-gifted Prowess, the Akalak was able to defend himself against the wild slash of his third opponent. Sparks flew as his bastard sword blocked the attempt at rending open his torso; and for a tick the two men struggled. Stepping forward, Dor'gen backed his blade with his weight and shoved, thereby forcing a retreat on the part of his third foe. While he would have liked to counterattack, the offensive of his fourth opponent forced him to raise his shield. There was a solid thunk as steel met steel, and once again the Akalak shoved back. While this tactic proved effective in creating some breathing room, Dor'gen was beginning to realize that the numbers were going to make this difficult...

Until a shrill yelp filled the night air.

Curses and shock spewed from the lips of the final Snake, who was the boss of the entire operation. Apparently he had been stabbed in the arse by Kechaiya; and the subsequent anguish momentarily provided an opening. His comrades, distracted by the noise, did not realize that steel began to fly in their directions. With as much strength as he could muster, Dor'gen slammed his sheild into the torso of one of his remaining opponents. Its spikes drove deep into his flesh, making painful punctures...but they would not kill him, thanks only for the leather which laid between steel and skin. Crying out, the man collapsed into a painful heap beside his fallen comrades, thereby leaving Dor'gen to contend with one, final Snake.

"So, you think it's fun to prey on children eh?" he growled, taking a hulking step forward.

The man, noting that the monster before him had taken down the majority of his comrades, retreated back a few steps. He brandished his sword before him, attempting in vain to muster some sort of nerve in the face of the Akalak. Dor'gen, however, would not be denied. He would not kill him, for that was apart of the job description, but he would surely send a message. Raking his blade across in a strong, horizontal slash, Dor'gen intentionally clashed with the man's sword. The tremendous force behind the blow knocked the weapon free of his grasp and sent it skidding upon the floor. Now unarmed, the final Snake raised his hands in surrender...only to be met with leather. Raising his leg, Dor'gen launched a solid kick to the man's middle, causing a solid "ooof!" to escape his lips.

Doubling over, the thug fell upon his buttocks...only to experience a fresh source of pain. Taking a tick to reverse his hold on the sword, Dor'gen then drove it down; impaling the man's exposed palm. The weapon sliced clean through his hand until its tip burrowed into the dirt ever so slightly. By now, Kechaiya had finished subduing the leader of the Snakes by means of wit (and luck) and was beginning to rush back to Dor'gen's side. She would arrive just in time to witness him sending the message that the Orphanage's food supply was not to be petched with. Raising his foot, Dor'gen firmly stomped on the man's chest once. He, of course, held back the majority of his weight so that he did not crush anything and inadvertantly slay. No, this stomp was meant to hurt...but not maim too much.

"Do not." he began, raising his boot. "Ever." Stomp. "Petch." Stomp. "With." Stomp. "The. Stomp. "Orphanage." Stomp. "Again!"

Concluding with a final stomp, Dor'gen then removed his foot from the man's chest. By now, the poor sod had been reduced to a blubbering, wheezing mess...who would remember well to pass on the message. Never petch with the Orphanage, lest a Mountain's wrath be incurred. Taking a moment to retrieve his sword from the Snake's hand, Dor'gen then turned to face Kechaiya. Obviously he had not intended for her to...face as much risk as she did...and he sincerely hoped that it would not impact his payment too heavily. "None dead, fish retrieved, and message sent. I think those were the terms, yes?"

When Kechaiya returned to the scene, she saw several of the men in various states of defeat. And all were moving, albeit barely, alive and in awful pain. Meanwhile Dor'gen was stomping heavily against one of their chests, his words complementing the tempo of his foot. Each stomp elicited a wince from the doctor, but she couldn't deny its effectiveness. The man was just laying their sobbing in pain, barely able to nod his understanding at the warning. Yes, this man was well worth the ten golds. Especially since it seemed he had the self control to follow the job exactly as she'd wanted it, minus the involving her bit. It was easy to find someone to kill for you in Sunberth, but to find someone to show restraint was a rarity. If she ever needed a job done in the future, she'd try and find him at Pig's Foot once more.

Her face showed the signs of a person who was impressed, and maybe a hint intimidated, by the beast of a man before her. She knew he'd be a powerful ally if needed, so she would of course keep her end of the deal. Besides, he could just rob her if she squelched on it. She moved over to the box of fish, and opened it up peering inside. There still appeared to be a large number within it, perhaps the men hadn't had a chance to getting around to eating or selling them. The terms of the agreement had in fact been met. Fishing into her coin pouch, she grabbed ten golds, and offered them to the man.

Then bending down to pick up the box, she found it to be a lot heavier than expected. Bending with her knees, she gripped it tight, and lifted it with a grunt. Looking over at him, "You need doctor, find me. Give you cheap." Back and arms straining, she turned to head southward toward the orphanage, stopping one last time, a stern look on her face. "In future job, no use me bait. I make pay you do."

Turning away, she continued along the docks slowly, struggling to keep the box from dropping. Several chimes of travel and she eased her way into the side door of the orphanage. It seemed the children were already in bed, and the staff had left, save the caretakers that stayed within. But no one could sneak into the orphanage on Jillene's watch. "That for us Doc?"

Kechaiya deposited it on one of the mess tables, "Yes." Giving her a skeptical look, which Kechaiya always found surprising considering she was blind, she moved to feel the fish. "That's a pretty good haul. How'd you do it?"

Deciding to tease a bit, "I take by force." Jillene just guffawed as she took the box to the kitchen, "That's a good one doc, you have a good night. And thanks." Kechaiya smiled and left, weaving through the dark streets to her home, satisfied with her purchase and possible investment.

After the words had formed and fallen from the lips of the Akalak, there were a few ticks of silence between client and employer.

Dor'gen could only rationalize this silence based upon the expression that the woman wore upon her face. By his estimation, which could have been vastly incorrect due to the available lighting, her face was contorted into the unholy bastard of two emotions. On one hand, there were the tell-tale signs of intimidation, which was not a surprise considering what she had walked up to. On the other hand, Kechaiya was also impressed by some degree. Of course, the Akalak was only drawing these conjectures based upon what little he could see, and thereby decided not to comment on it. Instead, he waited in silence for some end to the quiet assessment that his employer was giving; only to be satisfied once action was taken on her part.

His eyes fell down to the motion taken by her hands; for she began to fumble for the coin purse which hung at her waist. Once her fingers had successfully dived within the depths of the purse, she procured for him the sum that they had agreed upon. She then held the coins aloft, and Dor'gen promptly received them into his grasp. A glance down afforded him the knowledge that she had not docked any payment off for his earlier tactic; a fact which came to a relief for the Mountain. However, the broken Common that soon addressed him did not forget to address that particular choice...in addition to extending an offer that caused a smile. "An affordable doctor? he thought, grinning, "I'll be certain to remember that."

Taking a moment to deposit his earnings within his belt pouch, Dor'gen first addressed the woman with a respectful nod. "Thank you for the offer Kechaiya, I'll be certain to seek you out if I'm injured." he began, before offering a reassuring smile. "And no worries. If ever you need my blade again, I'll be sure to keep all the attention on myself. No bait..." Turning, he took a moment to make sure he had everything. Sword. Shield. Pack. Money. Good Looks. With everything secured, Dor'gen began to head out on his merry way...before pausing to say one last thing. "If you ever have a job that'll help those kids out, come find me. The kids get a discount." With that said, the Akalak strode off with a serious desire to fill his belly with liquor.
