If a Kelvic had a complex braid in its hair would that cause problems in animal if the animal form had short hair.

No. But when he shifted back his hair would no longer be braided. Clothing and hair fasteners dont shift with the form. They remain existing so these things need to be removed or the shift will cause then to hold nothing and drop to the ground.
