To kill a Jamoura

Postby Bor on December 4th, 2014, 11:56 am

Few simple questions:

1. What kind of damage would a normal sword cut (enough to need a doctor to close the wound for a normal human) do to a Jamoura if it landed on his/her arm/chest?

2. What kind of damage would a weak sword cut (enough to make bleeding, but could be healed with simple bandage and some care for humans) do to a Jamoura if it landed on his/her arm/chest?

3. What kind of damage would strong sword cut (enough to lose an arm for a normal human) do to a Jamoura?

Now before anyone starts screaming from the top of their lungs that I should read the lore, yes I know that Jamouras are gentle giants. It is just that other people don't usually know this and see them as nothing more than a another beast to be slain.

To kill a Jamoura

I imagine a sword would do damage based on the skill of the person wielding it, not the quality of the sword itself. To call swords "weak," "normal," and "strong" isn't much of a judge; if an iron rod has a sharp edge, it could cleave someone's head off if the person swinging it was strong, skilled and fast enough, unless your Jamoura is wearing armor which is a different story. If a sword is so "weak" that it can only cause bleeding to someone without something going wrong, then it can hardly be called a sword. Is it weak because it's too soft? To brittle? Badly folded metal?

There are ways to make "better" swords; special processes, cold iron, magecraft, etc, but those are expensive and the improvements don't seem like they would make much of a difference if the way you're asking. A "weak" sword could take your arm off just as much as a "strong" one could, if the person using it was good enough.

As for how the injury differences would be for a Jamoura, I expect the biggest factor is the size difference. This isn't a topic I'm familiar with, so I hope the STs stop me if I'm wrong, but a Jamoura would probably suffer less damage from a typical sword cut than a normal person. But again, you have to consider who is using it, and what kind of strike it is, and at what part of the body; a downward slash to the crook of the neck would do more damage than a downward slash to the side of the arm. With that being said, Jamoura are physically larger and would therefore be easier to hit, so it is probable that they would sustain more injuries altogether, even if those single injuries don't affect them as much.

All of the above information is based on assuming a Jamoura is unarmored. If the Jamoura is wearing armor, the material, style and quality. If your Jamoura has any combat skills, those should be factored in as well.

All in all, use common sense. Look at real-life sources to research what you intend to write about. If you want to write about sailing a ship, then you need to research everything that goes into it so that you know exactly what your character needs to do. If you want to get your character into a fight, research the weapons and armor that are going to be involved.

To kill a Jamoura

Whoops, my editing seemed to remove the ''cut'' part from most of the questions! So yeah I didn't meant to say ''weak sword'', that would be silly :P What I meant to say was ''weak sword cut'' as to reflect how skilled the user was/how well the hit landed, like you said. And yes these all would be done on an unarmored Jamoura.

Now where could I find reliable source for sword wounds...
