"Man, this place is scary." Kusuri said as she strolled through the streets. Avoiding bums and shady looking people on the way through town was imposible when bums and shady people were all that was in it. Espically now that it was midnight and the town was sending shivers down her spine. She was slightly out of it while walking after all she had been traveling for awhile now. She could use a very long nap not to mention a meal.

"Only places to eat here are bars, and it stinks here too. Maybe I should have head to Syliras instead." She pulls her hood over her face to hide how pale she is. She always wished she was human. Then she could eat sweets and candy. But no she has to bite her food and wait for it to liquidfy then drink it. This thought made her sick. Why can't I eat solid things! she thought.

So she headed into a ally way, took off her sandles put them in her backpack, and begined to scale the wall of a building. When she reached the top she put back on her shoes pulled out her sketch book and started to draw the scenery around her with a small peice of charcoal she fond. Sunberth was dangerous but the rustic edge around it made it attractive. She yawned then countinued to draw. The cool air crept along her skin. It's chill was nice so she took of her jacket revealing her scar. She traced it with her fingers. It was still there unlike her memories. "My past has left me but it leaves all it's feelings for me. These feelings make me miss it and my past knows that yet it doesn't return. So I get revenge by living in the moment. Such a life for me........" A small tear trips from her eye. She throws the peice of charcoal out into the street her eyes full of rage. As she calms down she sits there in the cold feeling abandon and alone.

Keres found the cool night air to be invigorating as he sat silently in the shadows of a main street. Even though he had been getting out during the day, he was finding it more and more difficult to sleep through the nights. After all, he had spent years living the nocturnal life of a Zith family, a few days couldn't overcome that.

This was his second time to venture out into the Sunberth night alone, but this was certainly the city for the creatures of the night. After the sun went down all the people on the streets changed. From anywhere in the city one could hear the raised voices shouting in excitement or anger or the sounds of things being broken a few streets over. The idea of chaos almost seemed right, but there was a definite pattern to it and a certain way this city had of not showing the wounds from the night during the day.

What drew Keres out tonight wasn't curiosity or fascination though. It wasn't even the restlessness of a sleepless night. It was food. Simply put, he had survived for weeks now on rations of dried meat, another oddity that his previous lifestyle didn't mimic. He had grown accustomed to fresh meat, no matter what kind. Besides that, his stock of dwindling rations was starting to turn bad. He had considered simply purchasing raw meat at one of the butcher shops that he'd seen, but then the thought struck him, Why pay for food when there are so many animals roaming the streets?, and had certainly seen several.

It didn't concern him overly about which meat he got: cat or dog, they both had their distinct flavor. Thus he sat quietly with one of his Tamo Daggers in one hand and a small piece of dried meat from his spoiling rations in the other just waiting for one of the curious feral pets of the night to come by.

The chill in the air slowly grew from pleasent to chiling. Kusuri has been drawing nonstop pictures of the city, but only from one view. Now she needed different views to get more pictures of the city. So that she would always remember it even though it was scary and smelly. Now the chill of the air has turned deadly, Kusuri was freazing. She put on her jacket looked around the building for a good spot to climb down. Being seened scaling walls gives people a dead give away about your race. She settled on a spot threw her sandels down swiftly climbed down. Put back on her sandles and was off to find more scenery.

She settled on a small bench pulled back her hood and searched the shadows for anything intresting. And then she saw It. It looked like a bum, but he was holding a dagger. Kusuri stared at him blankly pulled out some of the charcoal she had before and drew an outline of it. It was slightly frightning, but certianly a unique part of this town.

So while Kusuri sat there drawing him she started to think about her past again. After all he was like her past. Dark and mysterious. Kusuri looked up from her book at him again. Was he dead? He was probably dead just like her past. Still Kusuri sat there and drew more pictures of him.

After a time of sitting in one place, Keres saw in the dim light the outline of a young woman move down the street nearly silently. Not only was she silent, which seemed odd for the area, but she was obviously of small stature. He motionlessly watched as she settled onto a bench on the far side of the street from where Keres was sitting. He couldn't make out much detail aside from her general shape, after all, his eyes were better than a Human's in the dark, but not that much better.

After she settled onto her bench she took something out from her satchel and began to move her hand across it repeatedly. He was also struck by the impression that she was acutely aware of his presence, which bothered him slightly. She'll soon enough loose interest, he thought to himself.

After a moment or two another movement drew his attention away from the woman. He could make out the shape of a small cat lurking down the street towards him. No sooner did he glance at it than it stopped in its tracks.

He slowly held out the hand in which he held the dried meat, and used the sounds he had learned while speaking Zithanese to mimic a cat's meow. Slowly, over a few minutes, the cat began to approach. When it was just outside Keres' reach it stopped and stretched its nose towards the dried meat, obviously wanting some. He took his time and slowly encouraged the cat to nibble the meat before drawing his hand nearer. When the cat was at his foot he reached his other hand out and stroked it affectionately, being careful to keep the Tamo from scraping its fur. He began to scratch behind its ears and it pushed itself against him as it continued to bite and pull on the shrinking piece of meat.

When just a few small bits of meat were left, just enough that the cat was still consumed by the wanting of it, he reached the dagger across its throat and pulled it forcefully back. He quickly dropped the dagger and the remaining meat and griped the cat firmly in place where it fought to scratch him and run, but slowly faded away from life. He had killed animals before and was always careful to make it as easy on them as possible, what he hadn't done before is have an audience while he did it.

No matter, he thought, whatever she thinks of this, I'll eat well tonight.

Grimancing over the thought of what he just did and shocked about what people in this city do when they're hungry, freaked Kusuri out. She then added cat ears on the picture of him that she drew. Justice she thought. Well he was hungry, and Kusuri was too. But she didn't sink so low as to kill a cat. Maybe he had mental issues. Kusuri then drew in the backround around him.

She liked how this was going so she fliped to a new page and started to draw him again in his new posetion. After she finished that she wondered if he would move again so she streached out on the bench and waited. Grining widely a few passer bys stared at her, well her fangs to be excat. "What do you want?!" This sent them away. Oh how she wished she was human people wouldn't give her weird stares and she could eat SWEETS! Yeah that would so make it worth while.

As the cat stopped its death twitches, Keres considered what to do about the young woman. He had paid attention to her, mostly out of anticipation that she would scream or run, but she had stayed mostly still. When she reclined on the bench, he was oddly troubled. He hadn't expected or wanted to encounter anyone, and now this woman was sitting rather casually in a spot that he was going to have to walk directly in front of or else go around several blocks to get back to his room.

He let those who were on the street pass by before standing up and letting the cat's body hang from his left hand as he began to walk. He kept his eyes on the woman as he approached and began to make out the youthful features of a girl roughly his own age, but there were oddities. Was it the starlight or was her skin a little too pale for a Human? That lite purple shawl she was wearing beneath her hood was actually her hair? Are those fangs?

Keres was very aware that there were many races in the world, but this must be one that he hadn't yet seen, which wasn't that strange really as he had only seen five others before tonight.

Keres noticed as he approached that her eyes followed him, she seemed intently interested for some reason. Perhaps its the cat, he thought, so he held it out infront of him and said in his best practiced, but still broken, common tongue, “Would you like some?”

Obviously this guy was foreign. Common speaking is just so common you know, yet what he said was hard to understand. And not to reconize what she is, how clueless he was was just sad. So Kusuri decided to have some fun with him. Give him a good scare maybe.

"No thank you. May I have your name instead?" She used her symenestra accent. Know that it sends shivers down some peoples spine. She quickly drew him again happy she could draw him standing up. She then looked streight up at him and smilled showing how big her fangs really are. She started to chew on one of her black claws. Foreigners are so much fun.

He watched as she made a show of her differences. With as close as he was now he didn't need the exaggerated movements to see her claws clearly, nor her eyes. Somehow this posturing felt familure to him, perhaps it was similar to the Inarta eagle riders flexing their bodies in the morning sun, or maybe it was the Zith smile as they spread their wings, he didn't know, but there was something familiar here.

He chose to break character. If this woman was flaunted her differences, then she should at least know his.

He reached his right had up and pushed back his hood so as to show off his dark red hair and let his hand fall slowly back to his side demonstrating his claws. He used the Zithanese vocal range to try and copy her way of speaking, the effect was not accurate, but accentuating the point, “Keres. Yours?”

Quite amused by him she pushed back her hood exposing her lavender hair. This will be entertaining. She decides to ask more questions. Dieing to fiqure out what excatly he was.

"Kusuri. So Keres were are you from?"

She moved to the side of the bench and gestured for him to join. Putting away her sketch book. Hoping he would not sit down with the dead cat.

"That's an intresting apetite you have. Then again I'm no different."

Recognizing the invitation as well as the expectation, Keres sat where indicated. He gestured towards the cat before laying it on the ground: after all, it won't mind, he thought before saying aloud, “Not preference, but is good enough.” He paused before answering Kusuri's first question, “Am from the forest. Mostly. But no more, I come here for time.”

Keres glanced at her for a moment. He considered asking her the same question, but decided that it was rather pointless because he'd likely not understand half of what she said. He, instead chose a different aspect of the same question. “Why is you in Sunberth?”
