10th of Winter, 514 AV

Earlier in the season, the Bronze Watchtower flared up a brilliant blue, signaling the beginning of the new season. It was a time for change, a time for reconnoitering. That is, if one had something to reconnoiter for. Jaymz had no reason for it, but still he enjoyed watching people, making sure he knew what was happening in his City. He had heard that Dyrens had fallen ill, but was not sure whether he could trust the rumors floating around. He tried not to think too much of it though.

Waiting patiently until the Windmount Track would be open to the public, Jaymz had been wasting the bells away with meditation in his apartment and praying in the Temple. This wasn't outside the norm for his schedule, even before he had applied to the order of the knights, which he was still waiting for the verdict for, this was what he would do every day.

When the 10th day of the season rolled around, he knew it was time to get up and go to the track. He ate a small breakfast, enough to fill his stomach, and did some exercises to keep his muscles limber. Yes, this was fairly normal as well. Even though Jaymz' face was stuck in a natural, permanent scowl, it wasn't because he was angry or tired, it was simply because he knew that smiling was just a formality and really just unnecessary most of the time.

He decided to put on his sandals today, knowing that it would be fairly cold outside. The scimitar rested on the top of his chest and he took two ticks to consider before deciding to leave it behind. Just as he was about to step out the door, he remembered his necklace, and went back to grab it. He would have to take it off when he got to the track anyways, but there was no way he would leave behind his mother's ring, it meant too much to him.

His apartment was deep in the Maiden district, so it was hard to tell how truly cold it was until Jaymz had woven through all of the hallways and outside of it and felt for himself.

Winter had definitely come. It wasn't drastically cold, but it made Jaymz wish he had at least a light coat. Crossing his arms over his chest, he began to make his way quickly to the Windmount District. He passed the Nettle district and the Main Gates, taking a quick glance at the new folk that might be around. The stores were busy as always, even this early in the morning, although Jaymz was not interested in any of their merchandise.

He walked past, getting some strange looks from people probably questioning his lack of a jacket, and glanced over at where the Illythian District was. He hadn't been there very often, maybe once in a while to visit the theater, but he wasn't too interested otherwise.

Finally he got the Windmount District. To his right were the stables, and he tried to sympathize with the other Equines being held there. Stables were so uncomfortable, being confined like that could make a previously wild horse go entirely feral.

Jaymz ignored them, knowing there was nothing more he could do for them, and went off to one side to where he could undress and put his clothes down without them being trampled. There were plenty of people here. Squires and knights jousting, others racing horses around the track, some bystanders just watching, shouting occasionally in a lighthearted tone. Jaymz went over and stood in a semi blocked off location. He was aware that nudity made some others uncomfortable, even though it did not bother him in the least, so he tried to accommodate to their preferences.

He got a few confused glances his way when he started stripping down, but they were quickly replaced with some sort of understanding when they understood what was happening. It only took an instant, he was engulfed in a quick flash of white hot light, and if one really paid attention they could see black sparkles and lines throughout it, and suddenly his view was two feet higher and all four of his legs were on the ground.

It was truly a wonderful feeling, not being confined and constricted in those clothes, which were now folded in a neat pile, his mother's necklace on top, on the ground.

He looked around again, feeling the air blow through his long mane and tail, then trotted over to where he would begin running. There were a few impressed glances, he was an impressive creature. His coat was so dark it shone a slight blue color. His eyes were the same dark color, and he looked completely at home at the track.

He held his head high as he trotted, and could look prideful depending on who was asked. He wasted no time when he got to his point where he wanted to start, and started off with a slow gallop. The wind was marvelous, the cold wasn't quite as harsh in this form, he felt invincible when he ran.

He kept this slow gallop for about half of the track when he suddenly picked up speed. He liked to challenge himself when running, pushing himself to the limit. It would only better him in the long run, so why not? Once around the track would equal about a mile, so he liked to go around the track at least 10 times, even if he could only gallop or trot for the last few. His muscles felt strong, and his eyes were very attentive. It would be hard to tell, but he paid very close attention to his surroundings even when he ran. He noticed the squires busy with their jousting, some of them falling off their horses and laughing it off.

He overlapped a few of the horses that were already racing, getting some surprised looks from their riders.

It really was a wonderful place to be, and he thanked his goddess that she had given him just the right amount of time in this world to grow appreciative of the smaller things in life. He was very young, so his intelligence was not incredibly high, but his patience and understanding were never ending.

[Windmount Track and Field] Along for the Ride (Katelyn)

Postby Katelyn Marks on December 17th, 2014, 5:20 pm

It was the twins' idea that she would like the field where the Squires and Knights trained. Somehow they'd convinced her to ride along with them and watch the proceedings. They said it would be exciting. She's scoffed but relented, and thus was how Katelyn found herself riding up to the grassy arena alongside her brothers' scruffy, lanky mounts. Her pony plodded along eagerly, urged on by the scent and sounds of new horses. She wasn't exactly sharing in his sentiments.

When they came upon the track, Katelyn reined him to a stop and swung down from her saddle. Her brothers quickly followed--all smiles and laughter and excitement. It was a busy day despite the chill in the air, but most of the faces she saw were of some rank. Knights, Squires, Pages, but also common folk. Not many, but enough that the place seemed alive. She'd never been, surprisingly. She was usually attracted to anything equine like a moth to a flame. Kat couldn't be sure why she hasn't investigated the arena before, but it didn't help that she lived a day's ride away at the Outpost.

She came upon the track almost immediately as she unconsciously followed others making their way there--some on foot and others on the backs of impressive horses. A little crowd was gathered around the fence and watching the proceedings inside. Katelyn led her pony up to the fringes and peered over a few pairs of shoulders. A flash of black galloped by and her neck craned to try and get a better look. She could see a few mixed expressions of the people around her, and her curiosity was soon piqued.

Kat shoved her way to the track's fence, using the bulk of the pony beside her to part the onlookers. A few sour looks were shot her way, but she ignored them. Sebastian nickered at the horses inside while her eyes took in the riders. A smile crept across her lips as she watched them. Some rode very poorly--others phenomenally. It was a mix up of different experience levels, and it seemed the more confident riders were atop fine warhorses. When she picked up the approach of drumming hooves on the turf, Kat turned her head and had to double-take.

A horse was loose on the track--or so it seemed. A beautiful beast with fine hair so coal black it shone blue in the wintery sunlight. He was nothing but sculpted muscle. An onyx statue carved by a master artisan. His gait was graceful and his stride was long, with elegant head carriage and an alert expression. Katelyn stepped up onto the fence to get a better look, then glanced at a young woman observing beside her.

"Isn't anyone going to get him?" she ask as the black stud ran by again.

"Not sure," the woman drawled. "I haven't been here long, but no one's made a move toward him."

Katelyn watched the horse make another circuit around the track and swing back into the home stretch. She crawled up onto the top of the fence, swung her legs over, and sat down to wait for him to approach. Sebastian stuck his head up next to her, ears shove forward and nostrils flared as he smelled the activity in the air. She stroked his forehead absently, then dropped down onto the track when the black stallion came near.

OOCThanks for being so patient! It's not the best reply in the world, but my muse is currently shriveled.

[Windmount Track and Field] Along for the Ride (Katelyn)

Jaymz had made it eight times around the track now, and though it would be hard to tell, he was feeling rather out of breath. Though the cool wind helped keep his temperature stay low so he wouldn't sweat too much, and it cleared his mind for the rest of the day.

He had noticed the crowd gradually growing by the side of the fence for some time now. Every time he ran around there were more people than the last time. This wasn't uncommon, it was a rather strange thing to see an unoccupied horse at the field, but people who were here often knew that he was only here to run then he would leave.

He passed the fence again, starting on his ninth round. A flash of bright hair caught his eye but he ran by too fast to further inspect it. It should still be there the next time, he would pay attention better then.

When he rounded the last corner, starting his tenth lap, he paid attention to the fence. The person with the bright hair, a slightly orange color, was a woman and she was now sitting on the edge of the fence. As he ran closer she surprised him by jumping down and then standing in his path on the track. He quickly slowed to a full stop so he was standing right in front of her.

In this form, he towered over the dainty woman. In fact, he would probably still tower over her in his human form, but he was much taller than everyone anyways. He blew hot air out of his nose, snorting at her. What is she doing on the track? He thought to himself. Obviously the woman wanted something to do with him, as she jumped in his way in the first place. Did she mean to bring him back to the stables? That would be for an awkward situation when he had to shift back to show he meant only to run here.

He flicked his tail and watched her. Well, maybe dainty wasn't the right word. She obviously was a working woman. There were definite muscles along her arms and her skin was suntanned. She was very pretty, he realized. She had an attractive face, one with determination set upon it. Jaymz could appreciate stubbornness and motivation in a person. But what did she intend to do here?

If the other people at the fence hadn't been paying attention before, they definitely were now. Jaymz could here whispers and could feel a general sense of excitement. Nobody had stopped him like this before, feeling his appearance to be intimidating. A brave woman this was, what would she have done if he had chosen not to stop? Not that that would happen, he was far too protective of people to intentionally harm them. But what if?

[Windmount Track and Field] Along for the Ride (Katelyn)

Postby Katelyn Marks on December 31st, 2014, 9:34 pm

Katelyn looked around at the bystanders watching. Some were giving her an odd look, and she returned their stares with exasperated curiosity. Why was no one near as interested as she was? Sebastian watched the two of them from the other side of the fence and snorted at the large stud, craning his neck for a sniff. Kat reached over and plucked up the length of rope she kept draped over the swell of his saddle and shook out the stiff coil, letting it loosen as she gathered a length of it in one hand.

She didn't hesitate to close the gap between herself and the stallion. He stood there watching her curiously with big chocolatey eyes. They were eerily intelligent she noted, seeming to see more than the long face let on. Kat offered her palm to the stallion--not wanting to just throw the rope right over him without warning.

"Hello there, big handsome boy," she murmured gently. "What does everyone think they're doing letting you run around out here like this?"

Honestly, Kat would have thought that the Knights had more sense that than. It was disappointing, really. Sebastian squealed softly and pawed at the fence, rapping the wood loudly with his shod hoof. He didn't seem to like not being the center of attention. She shushed him gently and waved her fingers at his nose when he stretched his head toward her, but gave him one soft stroke before pushing him away to try and soften his rejection. It didn't seem to work. He whined indignantly and tossed his sorrel head in what looked like disbelief.

OOCSorry for the length of this one, I wasn't sure what to do honestly!

When the bright-haired girl lifted her palm to his nose, Jaymz bent down to sniff it. She smelled like work, like hay and sunshine, even though the sun was barely shining. He had been even more concerned when she went to grab the length of rope off of the pony he assumed was hers. She must intend to use it to put around his neck. That wouldn't be any fun for either of them.

Jaymz looked down at her for a minute, inspecting the freckles all across her face, how her skin was a light color, probably because of the colder season. She definitely was outside the norm, a rough-around-the-edges kind of girl. Someone that could look out for herself and not have to heavily rely on a man to help her along in life. She wasn't small and weak either, she held herself like she knew exactly what kind of person she was. So obviously the girl wasn't a stranger to things like horses and ropes and dealing with them.

When she spoke to him with a soothing tone, he understood then what her thoughts were. That somebody had let a horse free on the track to run around and around in circles. The pony at the fence was demanding the girl's attention and she turned to him to shush him before looking back at Jaymz.

What was he supposed to do? Did she want to take him somewhere? He can't let her throw that rope on him.

After a few seconds of decision-making, he pawed at the ground and let out a soft snicker, before backing up just a little bit, out of range of the rope. He didn't want to off-put the stranger, as he was very intrigued by her. Maybe he should let her ride on his back? He would withstand a saddle for a few minutes if she were up to it. Although his size can be a little bit upsetting to those that are not skilled enough in that aspect.

Jaymz perked his ears up and glanced to the area that kept spare saddles hanging over it. Some of the squires and knights were hanging around that area, they should know how to put a saddle on a horse.

He didn't want to shift right there and really upset the girl, so instead he looked to her to catch her eye and then slowly started walking in the direction with the saddles, glancing at the girl occasionally to see if she would follow.

[Windmount Track and Field] Along for the Ride (Katelyn)

Postby Katelyn Marks on January 14th, 2015, 2:53 pm

At first the horse seemed nervous at the sight of the rope. When he backed away she didn't follow immediately. Kat didn't want to crowd him, frighten the stallion, and cause him to bolt. All everyone needed was an anxious stud running around. It could be dangerous. If he knocked someone out of the saddle or frightened the other horses they would have a whole debacle on their hands.

When the stallion turned and started to walk away, Katelyn hesitated, but backwards glance at her and the pause in his step made her frown curiously. That intelligent glint in his eyes was almost beckoning. The redhead waited an uncertain beat before following the large black animal. Sebastian meandered along the fence after them, stepping eagerly and watching the two of them closely.

Katelyn slipped the coil of rope over her shoulder and picked up her pace to keep up with the stallion's long stride. She moved up beside him and was baffled by the situation. His withers rose a few inches above the top of her head, and the muscles along his shoulders shifted and flexed with every heavy step. The strange urge to follow the horse seemed foolish if she thought about it, but the animal seemed intent.

He continued to glance at her occasionally as if to be sure she was still there, until they finally stopped near the collection of tack. She peered at the stud in confusion and exasperation.

"What do you want? A saddle?" she asked, then shook her head and folded her arms.

"I'm going crazy," she grumbled. "You're just a horse. This is silly."

Katelyn called out to a nearby Page and he turned to look at her, surprised by the sight of the massive black beast towering beside her with nary a halter.

"Do you know who's horse this is?" she asked, and he shook his head dumbly.

It’s too bad that this thread got abandoned. It could have been a really neat encounter with a horse lover such as Katelyn and a horse kelvic. Still, I awarded what I could.
