General Information
Race: Human, Drykas
Gender: Male
Age: Twenty
Birthday: 52, Fall, 494.
Birthplace: Endrykas
Appearance
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 194 lbs.
Build: Life in the grasslands of Endrykas is not for the faint of heart. It is not a place for one to live a peaceful existence. It is a place that breeds the strongest of men, without strength there is only death that awaits those that roam the grasslands. He never forgot that lesson even when he left the grasslands for Syliras. With that mentality burning in his heart he grew to be healthy young man, chiseled with a tanned muscular build of a swordsman, promising a strength that was meant for the survival in the grasslands. A body conditioned for the taxing toll of a battle on his body.
His
windmarks were etched onto his torso and spread out to both sides of his shoulders.
Hair Color: Bright straw-colored locks.
Eye Color: Dark blue of a raging ocean.
Distinctive Features: During one of the many times he spent being tormented by the elder brother from is adoptive family, Torrhen Crownsgard, his brother went too far. Playing just outside the protective walls of Stormhold Keep, Torrhen found him. Once ensuring that Jackson, Torrhen's elder brother, was no where in sight Torrhen began taunting Henry, poking him with a stick that he had retrieved. Soon the tormenting became too much the lad to handle so he lashed out at Torrhen with his fist and connected with his jaw.
The burning fire of triumphant glowing in Arthur's eyes as he stood up for himself was quickly stuffed out when Torrhen returned the blow with a swing from the stick he was holding. Henry was left with a scar as reminder from the bottom of his left ear that traveled across his cheek to his chin.
Character Concept
Passionate, that is one word that anyone that knows Arthur would call him. Everything that he does is done with this unfaltering drive with him not knowing the definition of going easy. Everything he does, let it be the physically demanding stress of his swordplay, or the mentally straining work of cartography, is done with one hundred percent of his entire being. His philosophy is that every task, no matter how trivial or essential it may appear, should be done with the fullest of an individuals abilities, because every task has a reason behind it.
His passion does not only stop at the tasks that are placed in front of him. That passion of his can be found at its prime with the love and affection he holds for those he cares deeply for. This passion of his for them causes him to trust them with his entire being, placing even his life in danger if they asked him to do so. He existences to further the dreams of those that he cares for, and is there to make sure that they safely achieve those dreams of theirs.
As the adopted son of the family, the thoughts of him ever becoming the leader of the Crownsgard family was impossible. This had allowed more freedom in his childhood than his elder brothers, who were the eligible heirs to obtaining the position of patriarch of the Crownsgard family. He took every advantage of this freedom and mingled with the children of the smallfolk that served his family, so unlike many nobles, he does not have this sense of superiority over the common people that runs rampant throughout the nobility. Though he realizes that he has responsibilities that beyond the simple smallfolk, he still finds a kinship with the lowest of the social hierarchy.
Naturally, like any handsome, brash young lord, the lad is not the one to be the wallflower in any situation he finds himself in. Let it be a banquet held in the presence of nobility, or at a seedy pub downing a mug of ale with smallfolks, with that charismatic smile of his and silver tongue Arthur can enjoy every moment of his life no matter where he finds himself. He is an extroverted individual; always at the center of attention he never seems to run out of anything to say.
One of his most favorite pastimes is swordplay; yet, it is not just simply something of a life or death situation to him, it is like a song more than anything. Each step, pivot, stab, slash, and dodge are all beats to the song of the battle, and its the one who missteps first to the song that loses his life. There is no pattern in the way Arthur fights, everything is done with the flow of the melody of the song. Along with his martial training of the sword, he has adequately developed skills in archery.
No matter how closely Arthur seems to embody the qualities of those true knights in children fairy tales who save the world from evil this is the real world. No man is perfect, no matter how much they wish it. Arthur is known for his strong steadfast to his ideology. It is nearly impossible for him to accept facts that are contradictory to his beliefs, no matter how clearly they prove him wrong. The Crownsgard lad is also unbelievably brash. He is known to throw any care of his own well-being aside and rush into the heat of battle.
He feels almost like a tamed wild beast. Though he may now be locked up behind the walls of civilized society, he is still a Drykas at heart. He cannot help but feel a deep yearn in his heart for the rolling grasslands of his homeland. A yearn to let his wild side roam free.
Character History
Fall 494 AV: Arthur was the third child born to Ortian and Rae, his first wife, of the Stormdancers Pavilion of the Diamond Clan. Ortian is the first son of the Ankal and as such is the heir to the Stormdancer Pavilion. Arthur was the youngest of four children: Helm his eldest brother, eight years old, Farim his older half-brother, four years old, birthed by Ortian's second wife, Bles, and Lea his older sister, two years old.
Fall 495 AV: Arthur takes his first steps. It was then that his father was blessed with Zulrav's favor and was elevated in the Favored status in the ranks of Stormwardens. This brought much respect and honor to the Pavilion.
Spring 497 AV: It became obvious to the Pavilion that Arthur was a mischievous child once he started adventuring on the outskirts of the Pavilion by himself. He was known to go missing for bells, causing an uproar in Pavilion in the frantic search for the child. Many called the boy too troublesome for his own good. But he remembered those rare occasions when his father would take him aside and praise him for his adventures. Knowing that it was curiosity not boredom that caused the lad to explore the outside world.
Summer 500 AV: He began helping out in the daily routines of the Pavilion with the rest of his siblings. Though his siblings would always complain about doing the dullness of the chores, such as, foraging for food, weaving, sewing, and cooking, Arthur found a wonder about all these new things he was introduced. Driven by that curiosity to learn as much as he could he tried his best to do everything he could to help the rest of Pavilion. Once and while though, he would leave the Pavilion for a bell or two to explore the wilds of the Sea of Grass, making sure to keep the Pavilion within eyesight.
Fall 500 AV: Both Helm and Farbin bond with Cyphrus Striders for the first time. After the days work pasts, a large celebration is held for the two elder sons as they are marked with their own windmarks. Arthur was mesmerized by marking of the windmarks. They seem to come to life on the skin of his elder brothers as he watched them dance in light of the flames. To Arthur, the windmarks seem to tell its own story to him that only he could understand. After that night, he insisted that every member of the Pavilion would show him their windmarks so that he could see the story their windmarks would tell.
Winter 501 AV - Winter 503 AV: As the years went by, he was introduced to more of the tasks and activities that were common place within the Drykas culture. It was soon realized that the boy seem to have a natural knack at almost any task or activity he was given to him. This was especially noticed in the later days of the Winter of the year 451 AV when he was allowed for the first time to hunt. With ease, he was able to easily track prey with an almost uncanny ability for such a young child. Though most of the members of the Pavilion were bewildered by the child's abilities; his father seem to be the only one who was unsurprised. In fact, he was proud because he knew that to Arthur the Sea of Grass was his second home. A place that he knew well from his many adventures he took out as a young child.
Spring 503 AV: Arthur began spending more time with his elder brothers and father as his tasks were more focused on hunting than the other chores of the Pavilion. For the first time, he also was allowed to visit Endrykas with his father when they went to purchase goods. By the end of Spring, he was also introduced to a new passion of his, swordplay, along with wrestling.
Summer 504 AV: Arthur progressed at an incredible speed in his swordplay skills. By Mid-Summer, he was able to keep with Forbin in their spars matches, but it was in hunting that he really excelled. None of the children could even match him in his skills. On one of the last days of Summer, he was introduced to a foreigner by his father. The man was a mixed blood. Half Chaktawe and half human. Though his pitch black eyes sent shivers down the boy's spine, the man had a jovial spirit about him. The man was frequent to laughter and his large girth would jiggle with every laugh. He was a merchant that was part of a caravan that frequently visited Endrykas to trade their goods. His name was Khalifi the Jovial.
Spring 505 AV: Out of nowhere, Ortian had brought a third wife and adopted her son into the Pavilion. A foreigner named Selina. No one in the Pavilion had any idea who or where this mysterious wife came from; however, one thing was for sure. That when this new woman became part of the Pavilion the favored son of the Ankal, Ortian, changed. He became more confrontational with his father, claiming that his father should step down from his position as Ankal. Though much chaos was occurring within the Pavilion, Arthur found peace in his hunting and swordplay. He also came to know Khalifi more as he was given responsibility to buy goods from him.
Summer 505 AV - Winter 506 AV: As the days past Ortian became more volatile than ever before, and grew to care less for his other wives and children, focusing more on Selina and her child. The reputation of the Stormdancers Pavilion soon became one that was cursed. It was a cold, chilly day when hell rained down on the Pavilion. One night the argument between Ortian and the Ankal was so intense that the members of the Pavilion could not simply ignore it. Forbin and Arthur were left in their own rooms as the rest of the members of the Pavilion went to try to calm down the situation. Forbin tried to keep Arthur preoccupied from the arguing they could still hear raging in the Pavilion.
Then suddenly the shouting was gone, only leaving an eerily silence left in the Pavilion. Both of them stopped talking as they just waited to see what happened next. To Arthur it felt like the silence before the storm. Then like the crack of thunder screaming erupted within the Pavilion. The rest was a blur. A very bloody blur. And Arthur had found himself alone, his tunic ripped and soaked in blood, in the Sea of Grass in the end. His body curled up next to the flank of a horse. His Cyphrus Strider.
In the end, it was due more to his Cyphrus Strider's sense of danger that he was eaten killed out in the Sea of Grass than due to his knowledge of the land. It was Khalifi's caravan that had discovered him out in the Sea of Grass.
Fall 506 AV: It took quite awhile for Arthur to even start talking again after Khalifi rescued him from the dangers of the Sea of Grass. And it was longer before he would even start getting out of bed. Slowly, with a lot of patience on Khalifi's part Arthur eventually was able to work up enough strength to start acting normally again.
Fall 506 AV - Fall 508 AV: Khalifi the Jovial reputation with the Drykas Clans were ruined along with the Stormdancers Pavilion. As such he had to move his routes to entire new region if he had any hope of selling his goods. Arthur stuck on with the caravan doing odd jobs here and there wherever he was needed. After the first robbery attempt though, Arthur provide himself as a competent enough swordsman and was hired by Khalifi as one of the hired guards for the caravan.
Life almost became normal again for the young Drykas lad. He was even able to have his own windmarks etched into his own skin by a scarred Drykas who was hired by Khalifi. Arthur began look up to Khalifi as a father figure to him. Soon after Arthur turned sixteen though Khalifi's health took a turn for the worse. Knowing that he did not have much time left in his life Khalifi met with his father when the caravan was near the city of Sylrias.
Khalifi was the bastard son of Henry Crownsgard, a well-decorated knight within the ranks of the Sylrian Knights, who slept with Chaktawe commoner, a rare beauty in the city of Sylrias. Though Henry loved Khalifi, his wife would never accept Khalifi being recognized as a legitimate son of Henry, so the knight did the best he could do by setting up his son with enough funds to pursue his dreams. So Khalifi made one last request to his father, to adopt Arthur as his son.
Winter 509 AV: Khalifi passed on peacefully in his sleep a few days after visiting his father. Keeping to the promise of his dying son's last wish the elderly knight adopted Arthur into his family. And just like that Arthur was given a new life. A chance to start all over as Arthur Crownsgard.
Winter 509 AV - Winter 514 AV: Though it was strange at first, Arthur soon adapted to his new privileged life. With his insatiable curiosity in full force, he jumped into his studies and lessons with a vigor that impressed the old knight. Arthur eventually started to act like his old sociable self as the years past. He soon looked to Henry Crownsgard with great respect. Though he may not get along with his adopted mother and brother, Torrhen, he still thanks fate for allowing him to find himself at where he is now in life.
