Appearance With long, dirty blonde hair and a decently muscled build, Heddar stands at 6’2’’. He walks with the characteristic gait of one who spends a vast majority of their time in the saddle. Character Concept Once a confident young boy strengthened by the love of a father, Heddar is now tempered with the sobriety of loss and suffering. Though still possessive of his youthful optimism, Heddar takes his ambitions and his duties very seriously. With three siblings and a father taken from him as a child he carries no illusions as to the harshness of the world he lives in and disdains any in others. To survive, however, he has developed a rigid self-discipline when it comes to respecting his elders. Character History Hiokan the father The last son of a last son, Heddar is one of the few remaining sons of the Nightspear family. His father, Hiokan, once had five children to his wife Unda. Due to disease, combat, and childbirth he lost his two eldest sons and his eldest daughter. Embittered by this bad luck, Hiokan and Unda kept trying to bolster their family. Eventually they had a daughter, Yamas. Her birth was welcomed with much celebration by the extended family and her parents. But Hiokan needed a son. A year after diligent attempts, Heddar was born. By that time his father was older and they had moved out of Hiokan's brother Artan's Pavilion. The father doted upon his son, making sure he wanted for nothing. He was so happy that he shared more love with his wife and daughter too. The birth of his third and final son made Hiokan a loving father again. Heddar was raised on the history of his family and the pride of the Diamond Clan. From boyhood he learned of the prowess of Nightspear ancestors and reveled in the tales his father told him of their ventures. Heddar made such a good student of the spear and the horse thanks to having his father's undivided tutelage that Hiokan began patrolling with his two remaining brothers Artan and Hinnas again, confident that his line would live on in Heddar if anything should happen to him. When Heddar was eight years old Hiokan and Artan were slain by Zith on a patrol deep into the Sea of Grass. Hinnas and two of Artan's sons brought the news back to Unda and her children. The death of Hiokan unraveled the family. He had been the force that protected Unda, Yamas, and Heddar. And Now he was gone. The Topaz Clan After much heated debate Unda took her two remaining offspring and returned to her father's pavilion amongst the Topaz Clan. This theft of one of their primary heirs caused a heated conflict between Hinnas and the other dwindling Nightspears and Unda’s brothers Michas and Mopar of the Highpaths. Their feud has lasted the majority of Heddar and Yamas’ life. The fighting between their uncles Hinnas and Michas was viciously spiteful and caused both Yamas and Heddar to feel aloof from the rest of the pavilion at times. Unda's eldest brother and Ankal of the Highpath Pavilion, Michas, taught Heddar webbing, knowing the troubled youth would need the skill in the future. Though he was a member of the Highpath pavilion now, Heddar was still one of the only descendants of Helban Nightspear. Michas was well aware that with only Hinnas and two sons of Artan, the male line of the Nightspears was dwindling. Heddar may be an Ankal one day and needed the skill. Heddar worked for years at the magic, slowly become familiar with the intricate webbing that connected the Drykas across their world. Michas emphasized the Topaz Clan's purpose in protection by encouraging Heddar to pursue the Watch once he came of age. Heddar for his own part found the idea a pleasant medium between his father's wishes for him and his uncle Michas's. With that thought he threw himself into his training more vigorously with the other boys of the pavilion. Strider & Windmark Once he became of the age to care for and ride his own personal mount, Heddar's mother and her brothers took him to the Amethyst Clan to find a worthy mount. After searching for nearly a day, a young roan mare seemed to take a liking to the Drykas boy. Her name was Ventac, and she brightened Heddar's life substantially. Heddar was put to caring for her in every instance and punished harshly if mistakes were made. It became the norm at the high path Pavilion to groom, feed, and rest the horses before one takes for themselves. Heddar and his cousins took pride in their success in these chores. When the Windmark came it was painful, but Heddar was old enough to know not to show pain. He knew that nothing worth taking pride in came without pain. Now Heddar aims to make himself a candidate for the Watch, both to escape his feuding family and to earn himself a bride and possibly his own pavilion. Family Tree :
