Slave backstory

I had thought of my PC having been a slave in her back story. I looked through the Lore, including Kenash which caught my interest. It has however raised a few questions;

1. It seems personal slaves need some sort of permission or actual roleplay. Is this true even for backstory?

2. I have seen other PCs that have escaped slavery, but have seen that in Kenash at least there seems to be a way to 'earn' freedom. Is this a possibility or should I stick with escaping?

3. Would another city be more appropriate for what I have in mind?

1. You only need permission for personal NPCs, slaves included. However, being an actual slave, in your backstory, don't require any.

2. I haven't found anything about earning your freedom in Kenash, but I haven't played in the city, so it might be. However, slaves there are branded on the face with the crest of the Dynasty they belong. This mean your PC will always be marked as a slave, even if she isn't one anymore. Which is an interesting thing for character development, but I don't know if this is what you are looking for.

3. I don't really know what you have in mind. However, other than Kenash I know of two other cities that have prominent slavery: Sunberth and Ravok. Ravokian slaves are generally treated well, and have more "rights" than non-citizens, but are still considered property. Sunberth is a lawless city, so it's whatever-suits-you style.
