Orin wiped the sweat off his brow. He didn't think the salt water coming out of him and dripping onto the plates below would improve the taste of the dish at all. Quite the opposite in fact. The kitchen, which had been so comfortable in the winter, was heating up quite quickly during the day now that it was spring. Even though it was the first day, the change was quite remarkable. Orin wasn't sure how he felt about it and he didn't even want to think about what it would feel like in the summer. He was on roast duty and standing in front of the hearth fire, which currently held an entire spitted pig, was basically the last place he wanted to be right now. However, he still never would question the assignments given to him by Remi or Rondo, since he was still just grateful to be employed at all, let alone doing a job he loved. So, he stood there carving knife in hand and cloth in the other as he spun the spit and cut slices off. As usual, he was plating. Aside from the pig, there was a mix of very early spring greens that Rondo and Remi had nearly wept over, since it had been so long since any fresh plants had been present in the kitchen. Orin had yet to taste them but he had salivated along with his other chefs.

A sudden shriek followed by a crash caused Orin to jump. Luckily, there was nothing for him to knock over in his vicinity or anything he could drop in his hands. Searching, Orin quickly located the source of the commotion. Rondo stood, finger shaking slightly as it pointed. There was a broken bowl on the floor that was clearly the victim of Rondo's clumsiness or shock.
”R-r-rat! There's a rat! In the, in the, in the pantry. There is a RAT in my kitchen. I hate this city!” Normally, the sight of the highly unpleasant man nearly in hysterics would've made Orin happy as a clam, but in this particular case, he was simply worried. Rats in The Rearing Stallion could be a very serious problem, especially if they started breeding. Remi was outside entertaining guests and it was obvious that Rondo wasn't moving, so Orin sighed, set his knife down and removed the cloths, then went to investigate. He moved around the center island that held the stove the oven and a table with the ease of long practice.

Entering into the pantry, Orin grabbed the broom propped up by the door. At least some good would come of this: the pantry was significantly cooler than the rest of the kitchen. Orin put it down to the lack of windows. Advancing cautiously, Orin brandished the broom in both hands as he kept his eyes open for any sign of movement. While waving it about in here, with all the easily breakable goods, Orin didn't really have a better idea. Suddenly, something almost overhead caught his gaze. As Orin watched, a rat poked its nose out and squeaked at him from the shelf above. Orin swung, trying to avoid the pots, pans, sacks, jars and other assorted materials.

He was successful in not hitting anything. Unfortunately, this included the rat itself. With a squeal of protest, it leapt at Orin. It landed on his shirt and its paws scrabbled for purchase. Orin squealed in a very undignified way and let the broom go so he could beat at his clothes. The rat avoided his fists dexterously as it made its way down his body and sprinted out the open pantry door. ”Get it off get it off get it off!” Orin yelled, his earlier bravado completely evaporated in the face of the rat menace. From outside, he could hear Rondo's protests. This was truly awful. Orin didn't know the first thing about rat catching! Maybe they could set a trap for it or something. Or maybe they should bring in a professional. After all, where you find one rat, you often found more. The thought of rats crawling through the walls of the tavern, stealing out to raid the food gave Orin goose bumps.

[Rearing Stallion] Rats and Cats (Sylvette)

Sylliras, a new place full of new smells and hopefully new flavors having only just come to the city Sylvette casually decided that her first objective would be to acquire a meal, after all, what was more important than a full belly and a nap?

Walking in the city was fun, smells of all sorts wafted through the streets, if there was one thing that she had not been prepared for it was the food smells it was like a pleasurable assault on her senses from all angles and with her cat nose, the experience was all the more potent. Making her way through the town Sylvette eventually came upon a place called the Rearing Stallion, and from it wafted especially good smells.

Having decided that the smell that Sylvette was smelling was the smell of something that would likely taste good she decided to go into the establishment.

Waiting until she spotted someone with the obvious intent of going into the place Sylvette watched until the older gentleman she spotted heading toward the entrance opened the door and quickly made her way in through the door he had opened by way of the space between his legs.

Upon making her way in deftly dodging the glare of the aforementioned gentleman who had been startled by the orange blur between his legs, she made her way towards the smell which only grew stronger as she drew closer.

Upon entering the place where all the smells originated from she was met not with food but, chaos. The first sound she heard was the crashing of plates followed by exclamations about a rat, why would anyone be mad about a rat? they were delicious, quickly spotting the aforementioned rat Sylvette watched as a rather tall individual chased the rat broom in hand into another room, and from that room came more chaotic noises followed by what sounded like quite a battle.

Moments later the rat came running back out of the room that the man had run into, without the man, It must have won?

To Sylvette's surprise though, the rat wasn't particularly dangerous looking, in fact it was the fattest one Sylvette had ever seen, nothing at all like the rat's that lived on the farm she had grown up on, lean vicious creatures. this rat looked like a toy by comparison, or to Sylvette, it looked like an easy meal. without any hesitation Sylvette lowered her stance and stopped the rat right in it's tracks, the rat upon seeing the rather hungry looking Orange ca quickly turned about and began running in a new direction, but it was much to slow to get away, after all over eating leads to fatness, which breads slowness, just as the rat ran into a nook it was pulled out by it's tail and flung a foot away. with an indigent squeak it took off in the direction it was now facing only to get bludgeoned by a paw a moment later, left dazed it was quickly swatted about for a few more moments.

Sylvette's mom had said not too play with her food, but this was to easy, the fat thing never had a chance and had become Sylvette's toy though, all good things must end, the example in this case, the fat rats life as Sylvette sunk her teeth into it's neck letting it thrash for a few seconds before going limp. and with that, She walked into the pantry where the rat had defeated the man earlier. thus she walked over to the entrance to the room rat hanging from her mouth like a trophy tail held high. the man had tried to use an odd stick to kill the rat. when all one needed was there claws and teeth, maybe she could show him why she was doing it right.

Food Equals Love

Orin was having a terrible new year so far. First, Sayana’s party had gotten very close to becoming a full out brawl numerous times and Orin had been in the thick of it. It had been far from the joyous occasion it was supposed to have been; in fact, it seemed like it had been nothing but one piece of drama followed by another followed by another. It had been an incredibly stressful event, actually. And, to top it all off, Orin hadn’t gotten to sleep until much later he was used to the healers at Soothing Waters not willing to let him until they were sure he was fine. But he had still woken up at his usual time before the dawn. All that had combined to make him uncharacteristically cranky, exhausted, and unable to control his emotions as well as he normally did. Which was saying a lot, since Orin was fairly transparent anyway.

So, this incident with the rat had him close to tears, anger or hysterical laughter or maybe all three at once. As he retrieved his broom and sprinted to the front of the pantry, breezing past Rondo who had entered but still had done nothing to help the situation, Orin channeled all of energy into his pursuit of the rat. ”I’m coming you rodent!” tore its way out of Orin’s lips as he practically snarled. He caught two blurs of movement, one brown and one orange that melted into one another. Orin skidded to a halt, nearly crashing into a shelving unit. Thankfully he managed to catch his balance at the last second.

Chest heaving, Orin’s tired mind took a second to process what his eyes were telling him. There was a ginger cat, or maybe a kitten, before him, rat held delicately in its mouth. Orin carefully replaced the broom where it had come from. He knelt carefully, wary of the claws it had. Having grown up in a farming community, Orin had quite a few poor experiences with animals. Orin saw that the cat had an expression that he could only describe as smug. Like a cat that got the cream, he thought Or, more accurately in this case, the rat.

Extending a cautious hand, Orin scratched behind the cat’s ears. ”Good kitty, very good kitty, you did perfectly kitty.” Rondo, clearly embarrassed by his earlier behavior, left the pantry, not willing to meet Orin’s gaze. The cat’s fur was soft and a rather vibrant shade. Orin kept petting, shifting from the ears and head to the rest of the cat’s body. If you want to keep that thing, you can. I certainly don’t want it,” Orin mentioned idly. It felt good and calming to simply sit here with no other people around. It had been one of the few silent moments he had recently. ”So kitty, who do you belong to? I don’t see a collar.” Chuckling, Orin realized he was holding a completely one-sided conversation with a cat. ”Not like you can understand anything I’m saying is it? Well, you’re the best company I’ve had in a while, so if for some reason you have any notion what I’m telling you and you’re looking for a new home, you can stay here. Plenty of tasty treats for you and it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if we had a few more rats lurking around. So, you could even earn your keep as it were.” Struck by a sudden thought, Orin scooted down, keeping up his running dialogue as he did so. ”Let’s just take a quick look to see whether you’re a boy kitty or a girl kitty, why don’t we?” Orin stated as he reached for the ginger’s tail, intending to flip it up to get a view of its private parts.

Upon exiting the pantry the tall man had a rather wild look in his eye tell he caught sight of what probably looked like a huntress fresh from the kill. Leaning down the man reached towards her and had it not been for his flattery he would have found that it wouldn't have been the rat in her mouth but his hand. but while stuttering his fingers where hitting all the right places. managing to stroke her most sensitive parts making her arch her back as he stroked her. As he did this he continued to talk to her telling her that she could keep her catch, well of course she could, she had caught it. He then moved on to asking if anyone owned her, though he answered his own question shortly after, which made begged the question, Why ask? Continuing to prattle on about her being the best company he had found Sylvette's only thoughts where of course, I am most likely the prettiest thing you have ever seen, before rubbing her head against his head letting him know that she liked being scratched behind the left ear he was toying with at that moment.

"not that you can understand anything I'm saying" Well that's kinda offensive earning him a momentary glare, though knowing how dense humans could be, she could only guess as to if he had seen it. Continuing with his petting and prattling he went on to offer her the right to stick around, well, can't complain about that. Though the deal was further sweetened with an offer of tasty things to eat, and If catching the fat rats that seemed to reside in cities was the only thing she had to do to earn her keep, well, that was easy.

”Let’s just take a quick look to see whether you’re a boy kitty or a girl kitty, why don’t we?”

???

Briefly confused by his question, Can't you tell, already that I am the most beautiful gal you've ever laid eyes on? Silly humans not able to tell things like that just by sent. Well, not like it mattered, getting her tail pet also felt good, and if he felt the need to visually confirm the obvious, well, whatever.

Definitely a girl cat Orin thought as he dropped the gingers tail. She was a gorgeous specimen and it was clear she knew it. Orin resumed scratching her behind the ears. ”Well you haven’t scratched me or bit me yet. And you caught that nasty rat. In my mind that means you’ve more than earned your place.” Orin shuffled forwards so he could put one arm around her. ”So, what are you going to do with that? I certainly don’t want it and I would appreciate it if you would be so kind as to dispose of it elsewhere. Or eat it. Although I think we probably have something more tasty for you in here.” Orin stood up a little shakily, head aching. Reaching above him, Orin pulled down a fish fresh from the market. He grabbed a plate and put the fish on it. Orin thought cats liked fish although he didn’t really know for sure. He filled a bowl with water and placed both the fish and the bowl in front of her.

”If you’re done with that mangy cur I need your help doing the real work Orin!” Rondo’s nasal voice was particular grating to Orin today. Orin gritted his teeth. ”She’s no more mangy than you are. And as I recall she actually caught the real pest while you did nothing. Oh wait, that’s not quite true. You did scream. A lot. And flap your hands uselessly. And drop a bowl.” Orin was kind of surprised at how good it felt to let his frustrations out. He’d probably pay for it soon enough, but maybe there was something to be said for instant gratification.

When there was no response however, Orin poked his head out. Rondo was standing there with his mouth wide open. Apparently Orin had shocked him into speechlessness. Rondo quickly closed it, his mouth forming a tight line. However, apparently Orin had shamed him enough that he would keep silent until his dignity recovered. Feeling the rush of victory, Orin gave him a cheeky smile. In for a copper miza, in for a gold Orin thought giddily. ”And don’t call her mangy cur! She’s a majestic creature. And her name is…” Orin paused slightly before blurting out the first thing that popped into his mind ”Ginger! Yes, that’s it. It’s Ginger! Isn’t that right Ginger?” Orin called this last bit over his shoulder. So maybe it wasn’t the most imaginative of names, given the fur color, but Orin could always tell people that it was really supposed to be about the spice.

Sweeping past Rondo, who sniffed haughtily, but remained silent, Orin resumed his place by the hearth. After all, lunch wasn’t going to serve itself. He picked up his carving knife and started carving. However, Rondo has bustled off to another part of the kitchen and because of the disturbance, there weren’t any plates waiting. Knowing Remi would be in here soon demanding another set, Orin walked towards the truly enormous bowl housing the fresh greens. Remi and Rondo hadn’t let Orin near them, too afraid that his unskilled hands would ruin the first batch of fresh greenery they’d had in a season. So, Orin wasn’t entirely sure what was in it. Still, that didn’t prevent him from serving it. He took two spoons and adroitly maneuvered some onto the waiting plates, abandoned by Rondo. Orin would’ve normally been worried, but the man probably was having hysterics somewhere in the kitchen. Honestly though, the kitchen was feeling a lot more pleasant without the irascible cook.

Snagging four plates with the ease of long practice and balancing two carefully on his upper arms, Orin carefully stepped over to the table by the hearth. Setting his burden down Orin finally managed to get the slices of roast pig on the plate where it was supposed to be. It might not have been as aesthetically pleasing as some of the plates Orin had made but that didn’t really matter to the clientele of The Rearing Stallion. They favored quantity over quality.

Almost as if on cue, Remi appeared. She immediately came to Orin’s station and took up all four of the platters.
”Bless you son! Just what I needed, keep up the good work. Everything all right back here? Where’d Rondo get off too.” Orin smiled at Remi’s care and warmth. ”All good, we had a bit of an incident but it’s all fixed now. Ah Rondo…stepped out for a bit, not sure where.” Remi snorted, almost as if she knew stepped out was code for had a fit. She bustled off, give Orin one last grin as she used her back to swing open the door to the common room. A burst of noise came in but was shut off when the door closed. Orin figured that should cover the food for a bit. He should probably clean up the broken shards before he forgot. So he returned to the pantry to once again take up his handy dandy broom.

An offer that beat rat, well, It had Sylvette's attention to say the least the man went over to the tables and Shelves that she could not see over, rummaging about before placing a plate with a rather delectable fish on it, well, that certainly did beat rat, no matter how fat it was, rat was rat ad their were plenty of fish in the sea, speaking of rats anyway. well, he fish it was, Strutting over to another door slightly ajar letting a breeze in Sylvette took the rat to said door and tossed it into a nearby bush before cattily making her way back into the kitchen to enjoy her treat, managing to take a bite before hearing someone refer to her as a mangy cur, Not nice. The man who had given her fish had had the decency to praise her calling her an exquisite specimen, which was of course true, she was indeed exquisite.

Until he informed her that he would be calling her ginger, though he did have the decency to ask, her opinion, which received an answer of a rather displeased Mewl, that should at least show some color of distaste.

Without much further ado though the man busied himself with other things that She couldn't see from where she was though after a few moments he left the room burdened with several plates only to return moments later without them but a smug look on his face. before he retrieved the stick he had at one point attempted to use to assault the rat, What could he need it for now.

Well It didn't matter much, Wandering over to one of the hearths Sylvette took her place next to one enjoying the residual heat it emitted, and preceded to give herself a much earned tongue bath. beginning with her orange paws and flanks.

Orin watched Ginger, as he was already referring to her in his mind stalk to the doorway. She tossed it out the back door in a way that Orin could only describe as dainty. It was funny, but Orin could’ve sworn that Ginger understood every word he was saying. ”You’re a clever girl, aren’tcha Ginger. Good job getting rid of that rat, we don’t want Rondo to see it now. He might have another hissy fit.” Orin giggled. He’d cherish that memory and bring it out and polish it on rainy days. It wasn’t often he got to see the incredibly polished and impeccably well-mannered man break down like that. And honestly, his reaction hadn’t just bordered on the ridiculous; it had crossed the border and set up a small town that was in the midst of some major celebration. Seeing that Ginger had taken up residence by one of the hearths Orin frowned. She seemed to have forgotten her well-deserved feast in the pantry.

Orin shuffled back into the cooler and darker area, again feeling that blessed relief it brought him. If he could, he might spend all day in here. But, he had a job to do. Bending over, Orin grabbed the bowl and the fish. Huh, look at that, a fish out of water! As Orin straightened up, he felt a rush of blood to his head and the room spun. He swayed from side to side a bit as he tried to recover from the sudden head rush. Finally, everything righted itself. Orin walked much more slowly now. For one, he didn’t want to spill the water. For another, that dizzy spell had frankly terrified him. Orin didn’t like not having control of his body. That vulnerability was something he was unused to.

Setting the feast down before Ginger, Orin gave her a quick pet as she washed herself. ”You don’t have to worry about losing control of your body. You look like you could take on an army singlehandedly. Or, single-pawedly? I’ll work on that and get back to you.” Finally free to sweep up, Orin meandered over to the ceramic shards. Luckily, it hadn’t been one of their nicer bowls, just a mixing bowl. Otherwise, Remi would have been pissed. Rondo would no doubt find a way to pin the whole incident on Orin. ”Probably try and convince Remi it was all my fault somehow, tell her I tracked rats in.” That sounded about right. This time, though Orin wouldn’t stand for it. After seeing that he could stand up to Rondo, Orin would give as good as he got. ”You’ll defend me, right kitty? There might be some catnip in it for you if you do!” Actually, Orin didn’t know if they had catnip in stock. If not, he would buy some in the Bazaar.

Sweeping the last few bits out of the door, Orin peered about. He was intrigued as to what Ginger had done with her prize. Finally, Orin spotted it under the bush growing by the door. He supposed that was as good a place for it as any. The bush probably needed the fertilizer. Orin debated shutting the door. However, the breeze it created was much too pleasant. Leaving the broom by the door where Orin could grab it more easily. At the rate he was using it, he was sure it would come in handy at least one more today. ”You sure you don’t want the rat or the fish? They both look scrumptious to me, although personally I’d go for the fish. Although I’d probably cook it first. Fry it up, add some salt and pepper, with onions and potato, mmmmm…” Orin trailed off as he began imagining the delicious food he could be making. Unfortunately, he was stuck doing what he was coming to think of as grunt work. He wouldn’t mind it so much if Orin were also trusted to make some of the actual menus instead of being assigned menial chores. And it would be nice if the other chefs, especially Rondo, did their share of the prep work. Orin was grateful for his job, but it was starting to chafe, especially since Orin was feeling as if Remi and Rondo were completely failing to acknowledge that Orin was no longer the simple assistant cook he had been when he first arrived in Syliras. As Orin resumed his task of setting up plates for Remi to take out, Orin commented to Ginger ”Maybe it’s time for me to start looking for another job, one where I can exercise my talents and be appreciated more.” Once again, the incongruity of conversing with a cat, albeit a highly intelligent one caught up to Orin. ”You’ve got it all figured out, haven’t you, I’m jealous. If I did leave would you come with me? Rondo would probably chase you out first chance he got without me to protect you. C’mon, give me a sign here!”

”You’re a clever girl, aren’tcha Ginger. Good job getting rid of that rat, we don’t want Rondo to see it now. He might have another hissy fit.”

Of course I'm clever, Sylvette was certainly raking in the compliments today, and she was quite enjoying it, though she hadn't gotten rid of the rat for the rather unpleasant human called Rondo. Sylvette disliked the notion that anything she did was for some benevolent purpose she just did as she pleased. After all catching rats was just in her nature, she didn't have some motive for doing it other than food.

”You don’t have to worry about losing control of your body. You look like you could take on an army singlehandedly. Or, single-pawedly? I’ll work on that and get back to you.”

Taking on an entire army? Well, she was quite a fine specimen and huntress, It might not be such a stretch to assume that she could take on an entire army, If she felt like it that was. Continuing to groom herself enjoying the Idle scratch on the ear she received from "Orin" rubbing her head against his hand, a show of mild affection that he should revel in. Giving her coat a few more licks she finished cleaning herself but didn't feel the need to relocate and happily continued to lay next to the hearth. Sylvette was mildly confused as to what would make one lose control of their body, she didn't know anything about that.

”Probably try and convince Remi it was all my fault somehow, tell her I tracked rats in.””You’ll defend me, right kitty? There might be some catnip in it for you if you do!”

Defend you? Looking at Orin, Sylvette wasn't quite sure if he wanted that to really happen or if he was just Idly chatting, Not that it particularly mattered, she was here because there had been food, and she found the company of the one called Orin oddly pleasant. So if she had too she supposed she could defend him, though what exactly he meant by that was an enigma. A fight maybe?

”You sure you don’t want the rat or the fish? They both look scrumptious to me, although personally I’d go for the fish. Although I’d probably cook it first. Fry it up, add some salt and pepper, with onions and potato, mmmmm…”

Letting out a rather long Meow in response to his description of the food. As for why she wasn't eating well, she would eat when she pleased after all, here there wasn't much competition for food so she could take the time to eat if she chose to. Though perhaps it would be wise to at least show some interest in the food. So Sylvette stood and Arched her back by way of a yawn and made her way to the fish and ate a half of it in short order, at least showing that she did indeed, have an interest in the meal proffered.

”Maybe it’s time for me to start looking for another job, one where I can exercise my talents and be appreciated more.”

Another job, another thing Sylvette was curious about, she had never had a job or anything like it, in fact she had yet to even use any of the Money she had brought with her to the city, that she had hidden in a hole she had dug upon entering it. She was also rather unconcerned about being appreciated, not that she had to worry, after ll with a body like hers, who with good taste wouldn't appreciate her?

”You’ve got it all figured out, haven’t you, I’m jealous. If I did leave would you come with me? Rondo would probably chase you out first chance he got without me to protect you. C’mon, give me a sign here!”

Of course Sylvette had it all figured out, she was a smart kitty, she had always been told so by her mother, and she had never lied. Thus his Jealousy wasn't all that surprising, after all she could understand her life was pretty decent at this moment, a free meal for catching easy prey and piles of praise both were indeed welcome and things to be jealous of. Walking over to the man who again seemed to be becoming distraught rubbing herself against his leg for a moment letting out a short purr to let him that she did indeed appreciate his existence along with the things that came with it before looking up at him and giving a short,

Meow?

”A meow? What am I supposed to with that? It’s not exactly the most eloquent of responses.” Orin rolled his eyes. ”Then again what was I expecting, asking for life advice from a cat. Tell you what, as soon as you learn to speak common or I learn to speak cat, we’ll continue this conversation where we left off. How’s that sound?” Chuckling, Orin shook his head at his own folly. Although, it’s not like there was any harm in talking to Ginger. While it might be complete and utter nonsense to her, it helped him order his thoughts and steady his nerves. And one could do worse than have a confidant that couldn’t spill any of your secrets even if they wanted to. And, she had soft fur. And was a pretty little thing. So that was several points in her favor.

Peeking in to the common room, Orin saw that the place was emptying out. That meant his job was almost done for now. Setting his knife down with a sigh, Orin grabbed a cloth and dabbed at his temples. Sweat had continued to be bead on his forehead this entire afternoon. Luckily, Orin could find some shade soon. He had four plates set out. The rush of people had ended as the normal lunch break had ended. There were a few customers who were likely out of work or between jobs still lingering over their meals or, more likely, their mug of ale or goblet of wine. Orin had those last plates out in case there were any last minute stragglers. If none showed then Orin would eat one, Remi would snag one for her and Ser Kevith, and Rondo would likely mutter something about how inferior it was, but eat it anyway. It was their typical afternoon ritual.

Orin threw the now damp cloth into a bucket with other dirty cloths. Mostly they were from when there was a particularly stubborn grime-streaked dish that needed to be scrubbed. Orin didn’t think anyone would notice an extra cloth in there. And besides, if anyone asked him about it he could always tell the truth. One extra cloth needing to be cleaned wouldn’t add anything to the kitchen’s expenses. And Orin felt reasonably justified in saying he didn’t want to get sweat in the food served. Orin went around the kitchen, banking the many fires. That would definitely help with the heat. And it would save them firewood at the same time.

If Orin weren’t currently in Rondo’s bad graces right now, Orin would suggest sitting down with everyone who worked at The Rearing Stallion to discuss a change in fare now that it was spring. The corridors and streets of Syliras, which had been bitingly cold during the winter, were turning into a furnace now that the temperature was heating up. Orin didn’t want to even think about what it would be like during the summer. The stuffiness had turned into mugginess now that the air was more humid. Orin would have thought that perhaps roasted meat wouldn’t be the best food to be serving. Maybe cold cuts or some type of chilled beverages would go over better. Orin made a note to bring it up with Remi at some point. It would probably be best to do so when Rondo was absent

As if Orin’s thoughts summoned her, Remi swooped in from the main room. Orin opened his mouth to speak of his ideas, but Remi beat him to it.
”Just sent the last of the lot off, I’m going to be eating with Kev today! Would you mind watching the kitchen while I’m gone? If Rondo’s not back soon, feel free to start preparing for dinner. But first, take a break and eat something! You’re skin and bones boy.” With a cheerful wave, she grabbed two plates and went off to eat with Ser Kevith. Remi loved her husband with a passion and he returned her regards just as fiercely. Orin wouldn’t interrupt one of their rare moments together for anything. Calling after her, ”You can count of me!” Orin grinned. Maybe he wouldn’t need to get his way in such a convoluted manner after all. If Orin showed Remi and Rondo how popular his notions would be with their patrons, they’d accept it. Since Remi had basically give Orin free reign until Rondo came back from wherever he had gotten off to, Orin could put his theories to the test right now.

But first, Orin would do as Remi suggested and grab a much-needed bite. He hadn’t eaten breakfast this morning, having been much too nauseous. The thought of anything heavy was abhorrent to Orin right now. That was why he had left the meat off of one of the four plates. A light salad sounded just about perfect to Orin right now.

Food in hand, Orin hesitated. He didn’t want to leave Ginger unattended in the kitchen. But the thought of staying in the too bright and roasting kitchen while the lure of the dark and inviting pantry was just steps away was too much to resist. Orin scooped up Ginger’s fish and water. He noted with approval that she had started to work on the fish. ”I hate to move this again, but I’ll be in the pantry for lunch and…” Orin paused, that odd feeling of intelligence emanating from her again. ”I would love the company,” he finished, instead of the ”I don’t trust you to behave while you're on your own” he would normally have ended with. Stepping into the pantry for what felt like the hundredth time that day, Orin pull his back to a shelf and slid down gratefully. Setting Ginger’s food aside, he began eating slowly, wanting to prolong the amount of time he could justify staying in here.

Following her new companion into the pantry where Orin had gone, and taken her food as well. following him into the room the change in temperature was obvious the room was far amount cooler and the feel was indeed quite refreshing. Walking over to where Orin sat rubbing up against him again in what humans usually took as an act of affection but was really just a cats way of marking things that were theirs, not that there was no affection involved, merely that it wasn't the focus of such behavior. After that Sylvette made her way to the plate that contained the second half of her fish Sylvette set to quickly cleaning the meat from it's bones before leaving the barest traces of a fish skeleton in the wake of her hunger.

Fish eaten and hunger sated Sylvette was rather content with the current state of affairs and thus decided it was a good time to reward the person who had treated her to such decent fare, and what better way to reward him than to let him stroke her lovely fur? Stepping onto his lap careful to avoid his food as even Sylvette knew that nobody likes a hair in their meal Sylvette contentedly curled up in his lap and allowed her eyes to close, allowing herself a moment to doze while them man finished his own meal. Sylvette had never quite understood what her mother had meant about liking humans, but she felt like this was a rather comfortable and safe person to be around, and with that she allowed a light nap to take her, not that cats ever really slept heavily, but with some food in her belly, and a warm lap under her, well sleep was't very hard to find.
