Vequil Alieare
"I did not choose to become who I now am. I merely wanted to keep on living." - Vequil 001. Appearance The Alieares' Azure blue eyes. Age: 19 Gender: Male Race: Mixed - Human, Isur Date of Birth: 63rd, Autumn, 496 Height: 180cm / Above 5'10 Weight: 91kg / Around 200lb
Fluent: CommonVequil is a Human-Isur male, his hair a light shade of honey and his eyes a deep azure. He is lean, taut and of a slightly larger than average frame. Though his appearance may suggest otherwise, Vequil is considerably heavier than a human of the same build due to his half-Isur heritage.
One of the most notable features upon first coming into contact would be his left arm, the skin a light shade of carmine. The arm, in addition to his left hand being his dominant hand, has earned Vequil an alias of "Redhand" in the lower streets of Sunberth. Upon close inspection, one would also be able to spot a very subtle blue tint to Vequil's otherwise tanned complexion.
Furthermore, Vequil has a distinct way of speaking. His roots leave him with an elaborate arsenal and manipulation of diction while the latter half of his life had taught him to speak in a completely different manner suiting that of the street urchins in Sunberth. As a result, his speech is a mix of words both courteous and criminal.
"Only the dead have time to think about right and wrong." - Vequil 002. Personality Cold and uninterested more oft than not, Vequil is a man of few words and even fewer friendships.
Vequil's experience surviving in Sunberth from a young age had left him with a generally nihilistic perception of the world, especially so in regards to morality. Pride, honor fame and name have no leverage towards him; his only belief is that of survival - to him, the right choices lead to survival, while the wrong ones lead to a meaningless demise. Also contrary to the impression he may give, Vequil views human emotion as something dear - it is what he survives for, to experience joy, laughter, bonding, pain and suffering. He will however not hesitate to detach himself from said emotions in the face of survival.
That being said, Vequil is not apathetic. He enjoys his food, derives pleasure from bedding women, and experiences pain and hurt just as everyone else does. He sees things as others see them, with the only fundamental difference being that he has the understanding that in the end, everything is of little meaning. In the past Vequil has lost much, and as a result he now finds solace in adopting this majorly nihilistic world view.
Quite often he contemplates this aspect of his mentality, leading his thoughts somewhere in a vague direction but in the end always failing to reach any definitive conclusion about himself.
"I can't stop now. They'd all have sacrificed for nothing if I stopped now." - Vequil 003. History A young Vequil and his beloved pet hawk, Chir. Vequil Alieare was born to the Alieare family, a family of merchants situated in Ravok. Once wealthy and influential, the family's wealth and power have been in decline for the past few generations. Despite the obvious signs, the pride of the family was strong. The Alieares clung onto past glory, oblivious to the weakened state of their position in Ravok.
By the time Vequil reached twelve years of age, his family had planned to send him off to Zeltiva for his studies at the University. He was accompanied by the family aide, Horun, and a sellsword to protect him during the journey.
A week into travel, the sellsword suddenly turned against them and ended Horun's life by thrusting a dagger into his neck. He told Vequil of a rival family's plans for the ruin of the Alieares, and his distaste for killing a child. Thus he rode off, leaving Vequil to his demise in the wilderness.
Fortune smiled upon the boy, for a merchant's caravan had been travelling along the same route. The merchant answered Vequil's desperate pleas for help and granted him a place on the caravan. Distraught, afraid and alone, Vequil drowned in his own anguish. A child but not a fool, Vequil procured an alias and travelled with the caravan all the way until Sunberth, far away from the reaches of Ravok.
Sunberth was not welcoming. Upon reaching the chaotic city, Vequil spared a beggar a few of his remaining Mizas out of his kindness. Little did he know that said beggar would then proceed to inform his friends of the juicy target and rob him clean, leaving him a beaten up child without a single miza in the back of an alleyway. To add insult to injury, even the street urchins there made fun of him.
With tears rolling down his cheeks, Vequil pawned whatever he had left for a few meager mizas. His silks and velvets, torn and dirty, earned him close to nothing. No choice left before him, he tied down his pet falcon and sold it on the streets. He cried again as his adored pet falcon left him side, now leaving him truly alone.
At that moment Vequil vowed to do anything it took to survive.
Seven long years later, Vequil is now a man roaming the anarchic city of Sunberth, surviving within the chaos. |
