Orin smiled as Ginger padded in. Her silky fur waved slightly as she walked. Or stalked rather. She was obviously a skilled huntress, if her quick dispatch of the rat was any indication. Her sleek form spoke of a grace and dexterity that Orin envied. "If only I had your physicality, maybe I'd be in a completely different place right now. Not that I dislike my lot in life but it's fun to wonder about these things isn't it?" As Ginger came up the the plate and began regally finishing up her meal, Orin smiled wistfully. He took a bite of his own salad. It was incredibly fresh, the taste of greenery feeling incredibly welcome after the winter he'd had. It reminded Orin that this was supposed to be a joyous season, one of rebirth and growth and new possibilities. Yet Orin didn't feel any of that. He just felt tired. Although that might have more to do with his night than his actual perception of the season. Still Orin felt a lethargy steal over him as he sat there and let the cool of the pantry seep into him.

"Must be nice to be a cat. You're so self-assured. You know the world owes you respect. Not like me who is terrified of his own shadow and will probably be bowing and scraping to people my whole life. Maybe I should endeavor to be more catlike." Orin smile faded as Ginger finished her fish and rubbed against him. "See? Even you just want me because I feed you. You and everybody else." Orin sighed, this unusual melancholia refusing to lift. Not that Orin was trying that hard. It was easier to stew in self-pity than to get up and face the world right now. If I never left this pantry again, would anyone even care? Well Remi and Rondi would but only because it'd be harder to get to the stores

Orin was about to just close his eyes right there and then when a warm weight settled in his lap. Glancing down in surprise Orin saw that Ginger had climbed on him. Her fur almost seemed to demand attention. Orin stroked it, marveling once again at its softness. That easily, as if a spelled was broken, his depression lifted. Orin laughed at how a simple pleasure and the comfort of company could make such a difference in his spirits. "I guess I misjudged you. I'm sorry. You're a good girl. Don't know why you're sticking with me but I appreciate it. Orin scratched her head before moving back to rubbing her back. Slowly her slitted eyes closed as she drifted off to sleep. Orin smiled, growing drowsy himself as her warmth filtered through his body. Setting his finished plate aside, Orin began to drift off.

However, the slamming of the back door jerked him back to fully alert.
"Orin! Boy! Where are you? We need to clean this rat infested dump. I refuse to work in a place where such creatures are breeding. Chop chop! We've got lots of work to do." Orin groaned. Rondo was back. So much for making a statement about the menu. But Orin was patient and would bide his time. After all, he wasn't planning on being in this city forever. So, if he had to put up with unpleasantness to hone his skills and make enough money to set him up for his travels then Orin would do it. Setting Ginger aside, he came back into the kitchen, grabbing a bucket. Rondi favored him with a disdainful look but seemed placated by the clear sight of Orin preparing to scrub. Making a rude face at the man's back when he turned around, Orin filled the bucket with soapy water, grabbed a clean set of cloths, and got down on his hands and knees. One day, I'm going to be the one ordering him around and then we'll see who's smug.

Your Grades have arrived!

Orin

Skills:
  • Cooking - 1XP
  • Animal Husbandry - 2XP
  • Socialization - 5XP
  • Observation - 3XP
  • Hunting - 1XP
Lores:
  • Ginger: Female cat, accomplished rat-hunter.
  • Hunting: Hunting rats in the kitchen.
Comments: Sweet little thread and a nice introduction for the two. I can't wait to see what happens when Orin realises Ginger is actually a Kelvic and he's been nosing around her.. er.. lady-parts. Teehee!

Just a quick extra note for continuity's sake - you may want to tweak the beginning of the second paragraph as Orin should have woken up in Soothing Waters and still be suffering from headaches. It's good to see that Orin's itching for more of a challenge for his culinary skills though - can't wait to see what's coming up!

Sylvette

Skills:
  • Hunting - 1XP
  • Unarmed Combat - 1XP
  • Socialization - 1XP
  • Observation - 1XP
  • Tracking - 1XP
Lores:
  • Orin: Chef at the Rearing Stallion.
  • Hunting: Catching rats.
  • Tracking: Tracking rats.
  • Orin: Another of my adoring admirers.
  • Racial: Marking things as mine.
Comments: Very amusing to read - you've got the attitude of a cat down to a tee! It would have been interesting to see more of the rat tracking/hunting (perhaps there are more in the kitchen somewhere?). If you want to improve your writing even more then I'd suggest giving your posts a quick read-through once you've finished writing them to make sure your sentences all make sense.

The beginning of your third post would be good to practice on - some of these sentences appear to end in commas rather than full stops or have capital letters halfway through sentences. A useful trick for splitting up your sentences in the right places is to read them aloud and only allow yourself to breathe when you come across a full stop. You'll surprise yourself! :)

Let me know if you have any questions and don't forget to edit your post in the Grade Request Thread.

Happy Writing!
