46th of Spring, 515 AV
Afternoon

As he passed through the simple archway, few looked to him, used as they were to his frequent presence.  The scent of his body and the sound of his steps alerted the Dhani within long before his arrival, giving him a sense of invisibility when it came to the Coils Club.  Unlike his other usual haunt, the Velvet Curtain, Kaveh was never made to feel comfortable but instead, someone to be tolerated.  Sometimes, his behaviour would warrant him vicious looks from other Dhani, to which he surprisingly heeded, knowing better than to get on their bad sides.  Reckless as he sometimes was, the Chaktawe was not stupid enough to end up as an angry Dhani's dinner.  Despite this at times intimidating atmosphere, Kaveh gravitated toward the tavern, fascinated as he was with the dangerous race.  Perhaps it was their strength, which he has witnessed in more than one occasion when brawls erupted, or their cunning, which reveals an intelligence and tenacity that even Eywaat would be proud of.  The juxtaposition between their power and their unassuming, human appearances had captured Kaveh's curiosity and in a way, admiration, much like his own for the Akalak.  To be strong was simply yet another of the Chaktawe's many desires.

Finding rest at a table near the dance floor, Kaveh sunk into his seat as his head leaned against the chair's back.  Rubbing the bridge of his nose, the Chaktawe sighed heavily as drowsiness stole his vision, closing his eyes shut.  He had spent the better part of the morning restocking the specialty tinctures at Alements with fresh brews, particularly the hangover cure that was very popular in the late morning and noon.  This sort of thing wasn't a common occurrence, but simply the result of procrastination from the healer.  More and more, Kaveh was realizing that he would have to tone down his late nights at various taverns if he wanted to keep his job.  Let's try to sleep before dawn...and less late nights in general He promised himself, laying down the foundation of his new goal. Mentally, he grimaced with the thought of returning under Argar's wing, likely working his way toward a cushy position at the Wellness Center.  As much as he enjoyed helping others, the hospital seemed too formal and rigid, and would force him to divide his attention between too many patients.  Instead, he preferred the more social and relaxed atmosphere at Alements where, best of all, the other staff seemed to tolerate his behaviour.  At least, thus far.  When it came down it, as much as Kaveh would deny it to others, he did enjoy working at the job that his intrusive father had arranged.

As he slowly recovered, the Chaktawe began to look around the tavern in search of something to catch his attention, maybe an acquaintance to catch up with or a card game to join. As usual, music thick with the heavy sound of drums and light melody of the lute rang continuously through the tavern interiour. Dancers sparsely peppered the floor, moving in a way that resembled a fusion of both their snake and human forms. Perhaps even more than their telltale accents were the way the Dhani seemed to execute their movements, for they seemed to slither and contort as though they were already in their serpentine forms and simply puppeteering a human body to mimic their natural movements. Though it was not a busy hour, there were some regulars that he recognized, with a few of which relaxing in their snake forms while conversing in hushed hisses.

[The Coils Club] Dissscovery

Postby Ssezzkero on April 17th, 2015, 4:12 pm

It could hardly be considered night time, but it was immediately obvious that the Coils Club never slept. She hoped to come to the establishment before Leth covered the sky, when she was sure it would be unpleasant. But only eighteen bells had passed that day and the Dhani of the city were ready to socialize. Sezkero found her ears were not in fact assaulted as she walked in, as she would expect. A few musicians strung out a lively tune on their instruments and the pleasant and familiar hiss, rather than babble, of Dhani voices floated through the air. Few bothered with common or Tukant here, and although the Iyvess had little recognition of the Dhani dialect, she felt a little more at ease.

Maybe her cousins would not be as threatening as her mother had painted them to be. Maybe they would be similar enough to her own kind, or those few that she had found, that she could end her fear of the more violent snakes. Chocolate eyes grazed the movement of the room, unintentional wariness growing on her face as she took in the scene. The sun had just barely begun its descent and already there were drunkards in the corners. The tavern was not overly crowded, but the fact that some Dhani dared lounge in their Dhani or snake forms threw her off. Sezkero stumbled at the sight of a Dhani moving her hips sensually to the music, seizing the attention of the men around her and daring them to step forward. Confidence screamed from her cousins and Sezkero was just about ready to turn around and walk right back out and find a better use of her night. She was meaning to give Maddox a proper collar anyway...

Instead the snake found herself stepping deeper into the Tavern, attempting to veer away from the dance floor. She was much smaller than most, which was something she has grown very used to, but the lithe Dhani that mingled before her seemed u willing to allow her to slide deeper into the club and further from the ease of escape. "Exxxcusssse me." Sezkero murmured in common, attempting to slip around a muscular coil that could only belong to a constrictor of some sort.

"I think I'll stay here." Sezkero could hardly pick up the hissed reply, but she could feel his hot breathe As he turned to her like lightning. She knew their snake-words were not meant for this humanoid mouth, so hearing the harsh hisses on the tongue of another sounded different and wrong to her. On top of that his dialect was similar enough that she understood but distant enough to be hard to understand. As he turned, her eyes fell on a bare, tanned chest with golden and black scales creeping under his ribs. She knew she was short, even for her kind, but she tried not to notice how far she had to look up to meet the Dhani's eyes. She caught the slight scent of alcohol on his breathe, which could only add a frown to her already descending eyebrows. When his own eyes dipped down to take in what he could see of her short stature, she crossed her arms. Clearly he felt little need to listen to her, finding no threat in her height or human form.

He managed to switch to common as he leaned down closer to her. Someone may have told him once that invading a woman's personal space would make her feel threatened, but it only angered her. Sezkero was not one to really defend herself, although she would prefer to not put herself in these situations to begin with. Maybe coming to learn of her cousins was not the greatest idea. Sezkero worked to compose her face for a tick before clenching her jaw. These snakes were so rash! With a spike of emotion, likely a shadow of her surroundings, Sezkero placed one hand on his chest. The snake pushed with a fair amount of force, shove the Dhani back a few inches, but only barely. "I think you won't. Try not to sssspill your drink, you fool." She growled, eyes darting to the glass of wine in his hand.

Oh she was growing to dislike her cousins and their lack of manners. Maybe her mother was right to warn her to stay away nearly half a century before. Apperantly nothing has changed. Before spinning on her heel though, Sezkero felt an impulse to knock the glass from his hands. Surely someone would react, even if this particular Dhani's reflexes were too slow. She wasn't sure if she wanted to draw attention to herself in a place like this. But something must have stayed with her from the seasons' past, and before the small Iyvess had thought the action through, her hand shot out. The tips of her fingers grazed the glass, but it was loose enough in his hand to fall loose, making it's descent to the floor.

This time, Sezkero let her impulse take her away. Before she could hear the shatter of the glass on the floor, she had turned around, her colorful skirt flowing in her wake and she slipped behind another, taller and more exotic woman, to try and remove herself from the scene. It took little effort to harden her face, wiping it of emotion. Little effort because she was unsure to be giddy with her odd brashness or furious with the daytime drunk for simply crossing her already condescending path. She wove through the dancing bodies, not paying as much attention to the movements as she should have, and ended up bumping into a few people who shot her half-heated looks if they bothered with irritation at all.

A few ticks later, the snake had reached the bar, falling in beside one of the few people who were actually seated. Hooking a foot on the metal footrest on the bottom, she grabbed the edge of the bar to give herself a height advantage. That was another thing she did not have in common with the main Dhani races, they were all so tall! It only gave the Iyvess more reason to dislike them as she scanned the sparse crowd, which had seemed so dense when she first walked in. There seemed to be little interruption to her relief but she did see the ride Dhani's eyes glaring round the room, likely looking for her unless someone else had angered him in the past chime.

A small huff of relief flew from her lips and she let herself sit at one of the high-stools. "Damn sssssnakes." she muttered to herself ironically, before realizing she hadn't really chosen a prime section of the bar to be talking to herself. He head whipped to the side where a black eyed man sat. She was sure he had heard her and was trying to think of something witty to write it off as, but only managed to swivel her chair the other way out of embarrassment.

As his gaze continued to wander, Kaveh felt the creeping sensation of boredom tickle at his mind. He should have known to come at a later time, simply due to the usual crowd that occupied the club at that bell. The Chaktawe was not in the mood to mingle, to test the waters with new Dhani. The last time he did, it resulted in more than a few hits exchanged. If he weren't somewhat knowledgeable in the healing arts, Kaveh might be sporting a new scar right about now.

Groaning loudly from weariness, he rubbed his aching, closed eyes, elbows resting on the edge of the table. It was then that a shattering of glass caught his attention, dragging it deeper into the club. A short woman, short-haired and apparently short of temper as well was walking in his direction, leaving behind an increasingly angry and empty-handed Dhani behind. Boisterously, he laughed, uninhibited in volume or energy. It was ridiculous to see a large predator like the Dhani be made a fool of by a small, human girl, a sight rarely seen in a club frequented mainly by the tall, snake race. Even as his laughter subsided, it tickled at his throat until the moment came to pass. Instead, he refocused his efforts to following her path, curious of what else this woman would do.

For a moment he lost her in the crowd, though from his angle her dodging movements were fairly easy to spot, his gaze catching hold of the colourful fabric. Her dress was vibrant and heavily patterned, a dizzying sight for the fatigued healer that nearly caused a physical response. Crawling up the length of her dress, Kaveh eventually reached the stony expression she wore, though he was quick to doubt her indifference to the encounter when she began bumping into others as though her thoughts were distracted. Amused, the Chaktawe continued to observe the small woman who was now seated at the bar, just barely catching the end of the words that slithered from her lips.

Momentarily, he was confused, not by her words but the juxtaposition between it and her delivery. Familiar as he was with the Dhani, Kaveh instantly recognized it as a snake's accent, yet there was something odd with that as well. Was it simply a dialect difference he was hearing? Perhaps, but none as distinct as this, especially not when coupled with those words. The Chaktawe did not think long on his questions, preferring action over constant mulling over of information. Pushing himself from the table, the healer approached the bar, taking the seat beside the snake woman. Then in typical Kaveh fashion, he went straight for the source of his confusion.

"But aren't you Dhani? Your accent's different but I'd recognize it anywhere." He paused, only to take in the rest of her appearance in search for any clues to her heritage. Her eyes, should she offer him the view, were brown and unchanging, her blinks somewhat forceful or purposeful. The Chaktawe was not one to be easily unsettled despite their fixed appearance, partly due to the similar feeling that his own race's eyes express and partly due to his interactions with the Dhani. Instead his eyes were challenging, strong, as though he anticipated a withholding of information from her and dared her to continue doing so. Should the woman hesitate even for a chime before speaking, Kaveh would pick up from where he left off, his thoughts out loud. "Unless you grew up elsewhere, far from other Dhani maybe...No, the accent is from your snake tongues right? Then you're just a different type of snake. Viper?" The Chaktawe was aware that vipers were the smallest of the Dhani subraces, throwing out the idea as soon as it dawned on him. However, he wasn't quite satisfied with the answer, recalling vaguely that the last Viper he met was quite a bit taller than the Dhani before him. "But you're smaller than a Viper. What type of snake are you?"

[The Coils Club] Dissscovery

Postby Ssezzkero on April 19th, 2015, 5:25 pm

She should have known her avoidance of the man's curious gaze would not last long. Although her heart was ready to pop from her chest from the adrenaline, it spared enough blood to darken her cheeks considerable as she turned to the man. Although she had no reason to be, she was a little embarrassed that simply knocking someone's glass out of their hand was enough action in a day to make her feel as if she had stolen a coin purse or punched a Kuvay'Nas guard in the face. Sometimes she was so childish with her actions. The man was quick to assume that she was Dhani however, likely familiar with her cousins enough to recognize her accent. She opened her mouth to reply to him, but her own words were quickly stolen by his as he continued.

Closing her mouth once more, she listened to the man and his million questions. He shot some ideas at her, and she was tempted to take them. Instead she waited until he finished speaking. Unconsciously, her brows furrowed slightly, and she leaned back a bit. While he talked she took the time to try to observe the man before her. His eyes were pure black, which was unsettling and unusual, but Ker had learned of the Chaktawe a few seasons before, so now the man simply looked exotic rather than scary. He was clean shaven and his hair cropped short, just about at her length. The clothes he wore were simple and she couldn't help her eyes drifting down slightly as she noticed that the clothes clung to his muscles tight enough that even under the folds she could tell that strength was not a foreign concept for this man. She dragged her wide chestnut eyes back up as he finished talking, forcing herself to blink a few times to wet them.

He was done with his questioning now, obviously waiting for an answer. While her heart took a few ticks to silence itself, she simply stared at the man. Her face was still a bit tense but otherwise emotionless. Flitting between his two colorless orbs, she sighed before placing one elbow on the bar to lean into it. "And what makes you assssume I am Dhani? My accccent?" She wanted to pull out the silence, keep the man from asking more questions. The very first thing he approached her about was the sole topic of discussion she always avoided. There was very little he could do now to redeem himself. She tried not to give the man enough time to answer her question, answering it herself. "Acccccentsss mean nothing. For all you know I've grown up under the Rajor family in Kenasshh." She brought up her short time in Kenash. She was not fond of the city of slaves, and the fact that one of the ruling families were constrictor Dhani's, only made her leave quicker.

"Anyway, mussst you interrogate me before you introduce yoursssself?" She huffed in annoyance at the man. He had caught her in a bad mood, and she was ready to be difficult for him. "I don't need to anssswer you."

oocI hope it's ok that I assumed Sezkero would give her name. Let me know if that's not the case and I'll change that part :)

A grin was quick to settle in the Chaktawe's features, half amused as he was with the mystery that sat before him, half pleased that he had not (yet) been threatened by this Dhani. Naturally, Kaveh was already thinking this interaction was going along nicely, which would bode well for his curiosity. People tend to avoid or find offense in his questions, be it the content or his manner of speaking. It really made no sense to the healer who would be entirely unashamed to speak the truth loudly and proudly should he be asked, unless of course it was to keep an edge over a competitor then that he could understand. Winning, did Kaveh love winning. It was due to this very addiction that in the face of the mysterious Dhani's difficult behaviour, the Chaktawe could only feel a rush of excitement. The desire to conquer now fueled his curiousity, lighting his eyes with intrigue.

"Kaveh, and you are?" He asked, only now following the conventions of small talk appropriately. Figuring he had to do this the slow, inefficient way, Chaktawe figured he might as well satisfy all her requirements before she went back to answering his questions. After her introduction, Kaveh could feel himself practically waiting for the correct amount of time before speaking once more, holding himself back from cutting her words short as he tend to do. Shifting to a more comfortable position, he placed his elbow on the bar counter and allowed half of his forearm and hand to dangle off the edge. "And yes, your accent, but also your name, your eyes. I don't know much about the Rajor or Kenash really, but I don't think there are many non-Dhani who would dare to give themselves a Dhani sounding name." As Kaveh spoke, one could hear a light fire behind his words as though he was already convinced of his suspicions. Honestly, that might be true for the Chaktawe as he tend to trust his gut and luck more than much else. Although her name was not as long or contained as many s's and z's as some of the others he had heard, it didn't really matter to him in the grand scheme of things. Small details he could deal with later, right now he was making a point.

"I haven't seen the deliberate blinking behaviour that you lot seem to do from any other races I've met. Unless the Rajor trained others to stare at others too?" He smiled, his gaze briefly letting up on their forceful appearance to appear playful and likely lighter than one would expect. The quick shift in intent may be a bit jarring for some since, much like his words, his emotions would often tumble out in rapid succession.

Continuing, but with less urgency than his round of questioning from before, he added. "And no you don't need to answer me, but why hide? You're among kin aren't you?" He inquired, leaning slightly forward as he spoke but not so much that it would intrude upon her personal space. Likely much to this Dhani's chagrin, Kaveh not about to leave her alone any time soon.

[The Coils Club] Dissscovery

Postby Ssezzkero on April 20th, 2015, 2:07 am

"Sssezzkero," She grumbled to the man. She would have rather not given her name actually, but it would only turn her into a hypocrite not to do so. In hindsight, she should have given him the nickname she used most commonly, Kero, but she forgot to think of it at the time. As he seemed to grow more interest, she only found him more irritating. In an attempt to seem disinterested in return, she turned her head to look out at the crowd. She was here to watch after all. Absentmindedly, she twirled her fingers in the short locks of hair on her head, as she listened. She really tried to tune the man out, looking for another Dhani she would like to approach. But in reality she wanted to approach no one. She was hear to learn of her kin and of Siku, but she was fearful of the results she may find. It was safer to sit and listen to the jabbering of the Chaktawe beside her. And boy did he talk a lot.

She couldn't help but snort at his comment on the danger of the Dhani, which only broke her resolve to appear uninterested. "Truly, you mussst give thesse barbarianssss lesssss credit." she mumbled under her breathe but otherwise did not interrupt the man.

She waited a few more ticks when he was done. Chocolate eyes still drifting between the many faces in the bar, she made no effort to even acknowledge that she was listening. Like a game, he would shoot questions at her, and she would wait before replying. He must know what she was doing, her ability to fool others was unparalleled in its failure. If anything her silence only fueled him. If she told him would he shutup? "Who sssaid I wass hiding? If I wassss actually among kin, I would find no reassson to lissten to your quessstionsss. But I am not, and I'm unaware that Chaktawe were related to Dhani?" She posed the question, trying hard to distance herself from the other snakes in the room but also plainly pointing out that he was not her kin. It was true, she was not like her land-dwelling kin. She found her home in the folds of rivers or curled beneath the pitter-patter of Makutsi's rains. She was more sturdy than her cousins from the jungles, she grew up in the cold of the north, which she always mused was the reason she was so small comparatively.

Feeling the man lean even closer, Sezkero snapped her head towards him with one quick and fluid movement. Her brown eyes hardened as they landed on Kaveh's soulless orbs. She searched for an emotion, but wasn't versed in reading his coal black eyes, and so she was hard pressed to find anything in his light smile. He was just playing with her now, wasn't he? She did not want these questions asked of her, but would he want to be interrogated as well? Likely not. Why would anyone want to be interrogated. "What'sss it to you, ssnake-lover?" She hissed, trying to insult him, but only finding an ironic name to place upon him. So instead, she challenged him. "If you don't fear ssssitting in a nessst of Dhani, what do you fear? Being wrong?"

As he spoke, Kaveh noted Sezkero's wandering eyes, but only when he finished did the irritation begin. It warmed the center of his chest, heating the the rest of his body as it made its way up to his temples, a gentle burn when it reached. Though he had a tendency to flare up immediately, he kept himself under control for the time being, not wanting to chase away this Dhani before getting some answers. In hearing her question, the Chaktawe momentarily forgot his irritation, breaking into an incredulous chuckle which somewhat cooled his fire. "They're not, naturally." Clearly she was uncomfortable with his questions, defending herself with an uninterested act and attempts at distraction, but he could not understand why. Was her race something to hide even among her own kind, or did she really not belong here at the Coils Club? Kaveh paused on the thought, recalling his own childish feelings of favouritism of his parents for his brother. Despite sharing blood with his mother, Kahina was more of an Akalak than perhaps anyone. She is both passionate and focused, determined and strong of will. It would be natural for her to love the son most like her, the first born. That, more than being a Chaktawe in a city of Akalak, was the cause of his loneliness. It seemed that for the both of them, feel out of place was the norm.

When Sezkero continued to push, now with an insult that solved only to tug at the corners of his lips, Kaveh listened all the more carefully for what came next. He wanted to know how she would retort, to fight against him. Arguments, debates, battles, in the end they were all competition. Winning affirmed his persuasion and determination, while easily concealing his other weaknesses. An unhealthy habit, but just another to add to his growing list.

To her venom, he reacted with a playful smile. "I just want to know, is interest so terrible?" Kaveh leaned back to emphasize the fact, easing into a comfortable position on his seat with one finger supporting his temple. "Better interest than indifference I think. Questions are harmless, I don't understand why everyone gets so agitated when I ask a few." To her challenge, he considered with an audible hum. After a short time, shorter than she may have expected, Kaveh gave his answer. "Oh but I do, I'm very much scared sitting here. I rub people the wrong way" He paused, allowing the brief silence to add in the implied like you. "and Dhani don't like to be pet."

"No one wants to be wrong, but I don't fear it - more of an annoyance than anything." Now she was getting him started again, his words simply rolling off his tongue like water off stone. "I'm afraid...hmm. I'm afraid of commitment, and being alone. There's probably more but I'm forgetting." Kaveh waved the confession away casually, not because of the spotlight but because of the vulnerability that he suddenly felt. It was a secret untold to even himself, a sentence never uttered. The reality of his own words grounded him, the sound causing both a heaviness and hollowing of his heart. He consoled himself however, knowing how to do so better than anyone else. Like his truth, Kaveh spoke words of comfort aloud. "Fear is what keeps us alive." The Chaktawe looked to the Dhani with new eyes, his expression softening. "Kept you alive I'm guessing."

[The Coils Club] Dissscovery

Postby Ssezzkero on April 26th, 2015, 11:27 pm

"There isss a differenccce between being interessted and being intrusssive." She countered his point. He made it seem as if she was not the first to avoid his questions, and she didn't doubt it. Not many people in this day and age were so open to strangers, this he should have known. She watched the man's face harden at her words. It was so slight and so unnoticeable that, if she had not felt that same anger a few ticks before, she would not have noticed. Good. The snake's thoughts were satisfied as she concentrated on the man further, glad she had noticed that one thing and curious if she could pick up any more. I'm getting to him too.

"Oh but I do, I'm very much scared sitting here. I rub people the wrong way..." Sezkero didn't need exceptional deduction skills to fill in his blank. He was playing with her again. "And Dhani don't like to be pet." She wanted to snap at him. She was already grumpy and angry. The fact that she sat here and entertained this man with her emotions was so unlike herself. It wasn't unusual for the snake to get grumpy, but more often she went home, played with her new companions, and sulked about it by herself. Something tied her to this bar, where she was free to vent and snap at this black-eyed stranger. She would likely never see him again anyway. Riverfall was a big city.

Before he started his confession, Sezkero had a brief vision. She imagined, that if she actually was in her snake form, how quickly this man would die at her temper. She was not violent, she would never lay a hand on someone who had not laid a hand on her first, even then, only if she could not evade them. But the image was brief. She could only imagine him much smaller now. The world stripped of so many colors, but more senses would be added to her collection. Her scales and lack of limbs would grant her freedom from clothes and the ease of free movement. In an instant, she could have had the man in her jaws. It would be impossible for him to evade, he was too close. He could struggle, yes, but she would have calculated exactly where on his neck her fangs would sink into before she even gave warning of her attack...

Ker's heart sank. Last season had opened new ways of thinking for the pacifist, most of which she did not like. And so, as the tone of the strange Kaveh before her softened, she attempted to soften her own view on their conversation. She blinked a few times when he so easily admitted his fears, but couldn't dwell much on it. Someone who admits their fears so easily can't possibly fear them so. He was still playing with her!

"Fear is what keeps us alive." And although she could not quite follow the direction of his eyes, she could feel them land on her. Her chocolate orbs only narrowed in response. "Kept you alive, I'm guessing." And the snake rolled her eyes.

"Yesssss it hasss. And sso it did to jussst about everyone in this bar. I'm sssorry but where have you been the passt five hundred yearsss? Kaveh,--" She said his name as if to continue, as if to introduce a rant, but instead she paused. It wasn't fair for her to take such a dig at him, he had just went in a different direction. He wasn't being rude to her or playing with her, he had started on an actual conversation, but she was so caught up with being infuriated by the Chaktawe she only ignored it. Now she was turning into the jackass of the conversation. She blinked for a moment, reevaluating his question from the beginning. No, fear actually hadn't kept her alive. For the beginning of her life, she was content living as a simple snake until Makutsi showed up. Fro, then on faith had kept her alive.

Fear had only kept her running... but from what? She recently discovered that the knowledge of her race would not be the end of her life, at least not in this city. With that knowledge, she had happily settled into the city of blue men. She committed her life to this town and has prepared to even give over her care and love to the lost children that inhabited it. So why was she hiding it from this man? Was it simply an emotional vestige that made her think her existence was her own business and no one else's?

"Iyvesssss." Her answer was sudden. An answer to a question long past, the question that stirred her emotions. A strange calmness followed the rapid beating of her heart. A minuscule burst of adrenaline for finally saying it. Speaking the secret of her entire life, to a stranger she was already committed to hating, and the adrenaline of revealing her race was so easily erased once the word had been let out. She shrugged, deciding to elaborate on her word for the man to understand. "But not the kind this cccity met in Autumn. I come from Makutsssi'sss riverssss, not the sssea."

And then she almost wanted him to ask her questions. She knew that from this day forward, the sight or sound of Kaveh's name would furrow her brows and harden her lips into a thin line, but she had told him. He know knew. Even her closest friend, Hirem, was in the dark of her true identity. She wasn't sure what the Benshira thought she was, but she knew that Kaveh was the only soul who has ever heard the word Iyvess escape her lips.

As soon as he ended, she began, her irritation peaking. With practised ease, Kaveh steeled himself for a long rant, knowing it was only a matter of time before the Dhani would explode. Yet the fire never came, the flames snuffed abruptly after his name rolled off her lips, lifting his body to support itself rather than using the counter. The initial surprise then gently petered out, relaxing his muscles and mind, but not to the point of ending. Instead, he suspended his mood and thoughts, holding on to the last bit of the previous air as he waited for Sezkero to continue.

Without warning, she spoke once more, the word so sudden and foreign to his ears that he nearly missed the sound. "Iyvess..." He repeated in a mutter, shutting himself up quickly when he sensed that she was willing to divulge more. Sezkero referred to the strange creatures that arrived just the past fall, an event that Kaveh had nearly forgotten. To be fair, he did not actively seek information on the strange creatures as he was preoccupied at the time with other matters, namely Jasna's secret. In recalling those dark times, his body froze with fear, stopping his heart with a painful grip. Ah, this was fear. As much as Kaveh played, there was no hiding from your base emotions, your instincts. Though it may have sounded like nothing to tell Sezkero his truth, or what the Chaktawe believed to be the entire truth, it was simply a defense mechanism. If he could say it so nonchalantly, perhaps he could learn to find it insignificant, unworthy of attention. Better that than to admit that perhaps he didn't know himself as well as he thought.

When it looked as though she finished, the Chaktawe began his questions once more but this time, forcing a slow approach as though it were a reward for the Dhani's honesty. "So the Iyvess are water snakes? From the rivers and the seas...what is the difference between those two types then?" He paused, half for an answer and the other for another question to surface. Allowing time in between each question for answers, the Chaktawe continued. "Are the Iyvess also Dhani? A subgroup maybe? Or is it just a similar race?" She pulled him toward her with each word, so much so that he expressed it physically once more, producing a slight forward lean. Then, in remembering the mention of Makutsi, Kaveh added. "Did Makutsi create the Iyvess then? It sounds as though she is your patron god much like she is for the Chaktawe, along with Eywaat."

[The Coils Club] Dissscovery

Postby Ssezzkero on May 9th, 2015, 4:51 pm

"Well, to sssstart. One of usss comes from the Ssssea, and one of usss exxxisst in the riversss." She rose a finger to motion at nothing in particular once he had finished speaking. She was going to answer each question, the excitement of revealing a secret, that no longer needed to be hidden, was gnawing at her. However, the small woman was not above trying to make the man seem stupid in his own ears. The question was not stupid, but since the Chaktawe didn't ahve enough information to prove otherwise, she would treat it as such. To tell the truth, there were quite a few differences between the two sub-races. More than just the physical, but the mental and the faithful differences between them has kept her kind from revealing themselves to even their closest kin. "But yessssss. We are Dhani, we have three formss and all the jazzzzz that goesss along with being Dhani. My kind are venomoussssss, the ssaltwater variety are only sssometimess."

But at his last question, she paused, brown eyes searching Kaveh's black ones. She wished that Makutsi had made her race, thus she wouldn't feel so obliged to be here. To attempt to understand Siku and Laviku, of who created her kind. Although she had no qualms with not attempting to understand the sea-God. She'd never touched the salty water of his domain, and had no reason to pay him tribute. But she was Siku's daughter. A snake in the truest sense, which was why she was here to learn of the Alvina, to understand her heritage in more than what Makutsi could give her. "No."
She sighed. "No, I am only hear because of Sssssiku and Laviku. But those two never claimed me. They've done nothing for usssss in the riverssssssss, they let uss run and hide and nearly die off. Makutsssi took usss in. She taught usss to integrate into cccivilizzzzzzation and keep our racccce alive." There was a bitter tone in her voice, even as she praised her beloved Goddess. Surely this Chaktawe knew and like Makutsi enough to know that there was no way the the snake could have that bitter laced voice at the Goddess herself. Her sour reaction was to her parental Gods. The ones who abandoned her. But, as she was surrounded by the children of Siku, Sezkero closed her mouth. She had come to give an open mind to the Alvina who abandoned her, not badmouth her in front of her children.

"But I've never ssssspent a breathe on the Ssssssnake Goddesssss, sso I would be wrong to ssay sshhe hasss abandoned me and my kin." Sezkero lowered her voice towards the end. She still refrained from saying anything bad, but she still would have preferred if no one over heard the conversation. She only pushed us out of her home, and then Laviku pushed us from his seas. Sezkero added to herself. There was no point in getting into it. "I don't sssupposssse you have any tiesss to Sssiku or Laviku?"
