Make your own lunch
Timestamp: Day 30 of Spring 515 AV
Location: A farm on Sharai Peak
Continues from : Pulley inspection
The "informal lunch" turned out to mean they were going to cook it themselves. The farm provided boiled rice but the fresh vegetables were raw and unprepared and required the guests to sit at their own small cooking fires and peel, chop and stirfry their own lunch. Every cooking fire had an assortment of kitchen tools and there were plates, cutlery and mugs.
"I haven't done much cooking" Ornea informed Edward. "It's chiet work. In Wind Reach I mean. But I'm sure it's alright that I cook here in Lhavit. If you say so."
Edward smiled. "I say so".
Ornea looked at the utensiles, picked up knife, and started to slowly peel a carrot. Edward had picked a knife too, and it was obvious that he must have made this kind of lunch many times before, because he worked much faster and before she had even finished peeling her carrot he was already chopping thing into beautiful and even little pieces. It looked nice. The half peeled carrot she was working at just looked mediocre.
"You can slice the mushrooms" Edward suggested, when she finally was done with peeling the carrot. "Let me take care of this one ..." He snatched the carrot and started to chop it neatly. Ornea had planned to just cut it to pieces, but her employer made long thin sticks of it.
She took the mushrooms and sliced them. They were soft and it was a very easy task. Ornea felt content to be able to contribute and do her part of the work, so she felt alright with doing the absolute beginner things. When she was done with the mushrooms she chopped herbs. After this she tended to the fire; she was at least not a novice at tending to fires.
"It looks like we're ready to cook" said Edward. "Put the pan over the fire!"
