[Rat Hole] Bad Habits

44th of Spring 515AV

Half-way through the season, the joy he'd felt at the start of Spring was starting to wind down. There was simply not much to do. Aside from the odd little job for Caelum, Kavala or Rosela even, he had plenty of spare time on his hands and no friends or family to turn to. Hands stuffed in his pockets, he sauntered through the lower part of Riverfall, looking for a distraction.

It was largely by accident that he stumbled across a familiar looking place. The grimey, beaten entrance to the Rat Hole appeared wholly uninviting to him. Dark, guttural laughter sounded from within. The wiser half of his mind urged to move on, but there was something peculiar about that place. He stopped and pretended to tie his shoe-laces, twinkling green eyes shooting a curious glance at the shady tavern. It had been a while since he'd done some exploring.

Feet scraped across the sanded floor, a thick waft of alcohol slammed into his nose. The inside was even darker than the outside. What few rays of sunlight were allowed in lit up the smoky air with vale, yellow colors. For such an unappealing looking place, the Rat Hole was well crowded.

Humans, Akalak, Konti, all sorts of races and species were represented in the tavern's assembly. Some were huddled together, exchanging low whispers. A broad Akalak with black hair like a mane was flexing his biceps at a malformed little imp, hardly tall enough to lift his chin above the table.

Timothy grinned. Hirem would hate his guts for going inside, and that was exactly why he liked it. The riveting thrill of doing something forbidden was too sweet a reward to resist.

He was about to sit down at the far end of the bar when his arm was seized by a puffy, wide-eyed Inarta. "Wah about 'im?"

Two other pair of stark blue eyes penetrated him. "Your choice Lyerdi,” the taller of the two Svefra’s replied coldly.

“Effselent!”

Timothy noticed a slight whistling in the fat, bare-chested man’s voice. His many chins dangled as he slammed a fat fist on the table and motioned for Timothy to take the chair next to him.

“What is-“

“Game! Good fffun!” Lyerdi exclaimed as he brushed a sweaty hand through his scraggly red hair. “They dek licking petchers have been cheating meh!”

“You’re just a sorry loser,” the taller, bald Svefra hissed, leaning closer.

Lyerdi made a broad, dismissive gesture. “Fe- fffew more rounds. Luck on me side now! Eh! Goosaboy.” He slammed his plate-sized hand into Timothy’s back, nearly knocking him out of his chair in the process.

“So what’s the game?” Timothy inquired. Seventeen golden mizas were stacked in the center of the table, there was a large caraf of ale too and a few mugs.

“It’s a drinking game,” the bald Svefra explained. The cold, calculative blue eyes of his smaller sidekick bored into Timothy. The Svefra sniggered quietly. “Last man,” he gave Timothy a look over “I mean, last person standing wins. We go in pairs. You against me, my brother here,” he swung an arm around his younger brother’s shoulders will take on the fat one.”

Timothy shot a glance at Lyerdi, half expecting the oversized Inarta to slam both fists onto the table this time. Instead, he seemed rather pre-occupied staring at nothing in particular; blood-shot eyes turning soft and hazy.

He turned to face the Svefra brothers again and arched an eyebrow at them. “That doesn’t really sound like a game. It’s a bit easy isn’t it?”

The bald Svefra chuckled, revealing vale, knackered teeth. “I like you. Now,” he snapped his fingers in front of Lyerdi, “you either beat us this round, or we’ll take the mizas eh?”

“Haha! Lyerdi always win!” The Inarta boasted, pumping his fist in the air for emphasis.

The mugs were distributed and filled to the brim with ale. Timothy wrinkled his nose at the scent. Now he understood the challenging bit. It was all about who could drink as much of the stinky stuff as possible.

“So if we win,” he started, “we get the money?”

If you win,” the smaller Svefra said with a curt nod.

And so the competition began. The Svefra downed their drinks with grace and expertise. Lyerdi shared in their expertise and speed, but lacked the grace. Timothy carefully sipped his drink until he found six eyes boring into him.

“You gotta do it fast,” the younger Svefra explained. He looked about twenty, light red blemishes littered his forehead. “How old are you?”
Timothy put his mug down to answer. “Twelve,” he burped.

The Svefra’s exchanged a meaningful look. “Fine age to start,” the eldest said, motioning for him to continue. Lyerdi had zoned out again.

Holding his nose, Timothy heeded the Svefra’s encourament and gulped down the nasty, bitter drink without complaint. After all participants had proven they could still stand, the game continued.

It wasn’t until he’d gulped down four mugs that he started to tire of the game. The world was piss. In fact, whoever had put the table together was a lazy excuse for a carpenter, the thing wobbled and stood at a strange angle.

“Empty,” he heard the Svefra’s muffled voice. Timothy blinked lazily at the caraf. Funny word ‘caraf’. He lost his train of though when the Svefra continued, “why don’t you go get some more?”

Leaning heavily on the table, Timothy grabbed the caraf with both hands and set out on his perilous journey for a refill. Zig-zagging through a sea of legs he finally arrived at the bar, hoisted himself atop a chair and smacked the caraf down with an air of finality.

“Please sir,” he looked up at the one-eyed man behind the bar, “I want some more.”

[Rat Hole] Bad Habits

Postby Zephari on May 7th, 2015, 1:52 am

Dreadful, that's the only way to describe today. It started out like any other work day; getting up early and heading to the mines. It all went downhill from there. Firstly a man was badly injured early in the morning, so the great lift was delayed for hours. After actually getting down into the mines, Zephari ended up trapped by a small tunnel collapse for almost four hours. Only after a couple of reimancers where able to find the collapse and dig her out was she able to leave. After that event Zephari called it a day, quitting early. After heading back to riverfall, she went looking for something to improve her day. Eventually wandering down to the lower levels of Riverfall, she stumbles into the Rat Hole, tired and irritable.

The sounds of laughter and arguing filler her ears as she sits down at the bar, her energy to walk completely spent. "Double shot of whiskey please.." she mumbles to the barkeep. Upon being given the drink, Zephari pauses for a second, memories of the last time she got drunk shooting back to her. Thought the memories are largely unpleasant, the annoyance at the day overrides it. After downing the whiskey she stood up, walking over to a wall to sit down against, the effects of the alcohol starting to take effect. Sliding down to the floor in a corner her eyes wander around the room. Two Akalaks arm wrestling, a couple cuddled behind a table in the other corner, and a boy. "Wait what?" she thought, her eyes quickly looking back to the boy, who was drinking with an Inarta and two Svefras. "Yahals mercy what is a boy of his age doing in here?" asked herself, as she stood up, slightly tipsy now.

Curious about the situation Zephari moves closer to the group, trying to listen in on them. Unfortunately due to the noise she only here scraps of sentences "get some more" and drunk giggling from the 3 adults, as the boy stumbles towards the bar. "Who could possibly even think to let a guy that young in here?!" she thought, now concerned for the boy, who was obviously very drunk now.

“Please sir, I want some more" the boy asked the barkeep, barely able to keep himself upright against the bar. Tapping the boy's shoulder, Zephari asks the boy "What on earth are ye doing in here buddy?". Her vision starts going a little fuzzy as she asks this. "Maybe that double shot was a bad idea..." she mumbles.

oocHello Zephari! Just to clarify, this is a bit of an experiment for me. I am ~250 in-character posts into writing this character and never tried this before. I am curious to see where it will go. Since the thread is marked as open, more people may jump in along the way. We'll see.

Someone tapped his shoulder, though it felt more like he was being hit with a hammer. Timothy flinched. Without the mind the unlatch his fingers from the caraf first the wretched thing followed his wild, flailing turn, shot up in the air and shattered on the floor. Confused, Timothy stared at his trembling hands for a good while. He’d tried to catch the caraf, vase, whatever it was but he didn’t find anything in his hands. Strange. His fingers felt funny though, as if he’d sat on them for half a day.

“Huh,” he mumbled.

A woman, with sparkling eyes betraying her as a Benshira, said something to him. He shook his head. “No thanks.”. She had asked a question, hadn’t she? When in doubt, it was always better to say no.

Forgetting entirely about the game he’d been playing, and the stupid caraf, he leaned casually against the bar and blinked sheepishly at her. “You look terrible,” he sniggered. “What did you do? Cut yourself?” Far beyond being capable of embarrassment, Timothy waddled forward and traced her forearm with his finger. Her scars were rough and dirty. “You should be-“ he hiccupped, “you should b-be more careful with knives and stuff…”

All the stupid people in the stupid room were still chattering about their stupid stuff. Couldn’t they just shut up for a chime? Was it really that hard?

"Heeeyy," Lyerdi whined, "you need to come back..." Timothy promptly ignored the fat Inarta. This new woman, whoever she was, was far more interesting.

Staring sheepishly at his newfound partner, Timothy considered that the best way to drown out the noise was to get some more of the smelly stuff. It made no sense, but that was why it would work. He thought. Maybe. Thinking was difficult.

“Here,” he fished a coin from his purse and put it on the bar. “A coin f- I mean a drink for me and thingy here,” he gestured at Zephari. “Who are you again?”

Kyo was staring up at the stars was staring up at the ceiling.
No.

He was staring up at the ceiling. The stars were in his eyes. In his nose.

There had been something that happened that had... had put him on the ground and put the stars in his face and his face towards the ceiling.

No wait. That was the wall, wasn't it?

The young man flopped over onto his side and struggled up from where he was lying on the ground. Nearby --right next nearby-- was a table and a couple locked together there. He looked over at them with red-rimmed eyes, the stars in his nose bursting as he moved.

Ah yes. He remembered?

The couple... the man. The man had been the one with the stars in his fist and his fist on Kyo's nose. The girl... Kyo had talked to. Just talked. And then she had wanted him to sit at the table with her and he had, since that was nice. And then she had called for the flame-water and that had burned all the way in the mouth and in the throat and down the throat all the way to the belly. And that was also sorta nice. After that they'd called for some more, and then more.

The flame-water was special water that filled up Kyo's head instead of his stomach, and so with every drink his head got it all sloshy like a waterfall. He'd started thinking about something, like falling, and then couldn't figure if up was up or that other way and he'd leaned and his head had touched on the girl's shoulder.

That was when the man had come and his fist had made stars with Kyo's face.

And so now he was on the ground.

'On the ground' was a little confusing in his head still, though it had made him see which way was up at least. But 'on the ground' meant... it meant coyote, right? If he was on the ground then he must be coyote. He had thought he was human before, with the girl, and he didn't remember the flicker-flash of shifting. But ground meant coyote.

As if to check his form, the drunken Kelvic looked down at his hands. They didn't look like coyote paws. He didn't know why they wouldn't if he was in coyote form. And he had to be a coyote right now, yes? Yes.

Only this wasn't a place for being a coyote. How would he talk to that star-fists man and tell him he was a friend and didn't need to be hit? He couldn't talk if he was coyote, no, he couldn't. So he would just turn... just turn human like this...

There was a reflection of dim white light against all the nearby glasses, and then there sat a coyote in a tunic who thought he was a man. The coyote couldn't figure out why his clothes weren't fitting right and why he was still so short on the ground. Maybe he'd fallen? That made sense.

He tried to walk up onto his hind feet --no they were his human feet, yeah-- but something was wrong with the balance. He ended up on his very toes and that made him flop-hop-dance forward across the sticky ground, trying to make his legs work like how they always did. His feet scrabbled against the ground and he fell onto his face next to some legs. Uh. And more legs.

When the coyote looked up, it was to see one he knew and one he didn't. He smiled a crooked smile and sat up and waved a paw --no, a hand-- at the one he knew, the boy-one from the thing the other day. Then he swiveled and waved at the other just to be nice.

OOCWriting drunkenness is hard. >.>

Hopefully it's clear enough, but in case all that was as confusing as I fear it was... Kyo is confused as to his forms. He's currently in coyote-form but he thinks he looks like a human. Hehe!

[Rat Hole] Bad Habits

Postby Zephari on May 8th, 2015, 3:46 am

After a few moments of confusion after tapping his shoulder, the kid stammered a "huh?" while simultaneously quickly turning and dropping his mug, which shattered on the floor. After grabbing at it with a confused look for several seconds, he looked up at Zephari. "You look terrible" the little boy giggled, obviously drunk. "What did you do? Cut yourself?" he asked as he ran his finger along Zephari's lower arm. "You should be more careful with knivs and stuff..." he said, leaning on her arm now. One of the people he was drinking with called out to him, though he seemed to be ignoring them. "This is just messed up..." Zephari thought looking back at the boy.

Zephari tried to speak again, but the boy quickly cut her off, asking the barkeep for another drinking, and one for her. "Wow this kid is pretty smooth for a drunk 10 year old..." she thought, letting out a small laugh. The boy then smiled and said "Who are you again?"

"My name is Zephari, and you are WAY to young be drinking" she said, this time with a stern an forceful tone. Once the barkeep brought the 2 drinks, Zephari grabbed both, making sure to keep them out of reach from the boy."You must be totally smashed by now at your size..." Zephari mumbled, rolling her eyes at the kid. Turning to walk over to a table, she was greeted by the most unusual sight in her entire life.

A coyote. A coyote in cloths. A coyote in cloths, trying to walk towards her and the boy, while waving its from paw at the two of them. Simply standing there in shock, she observes the coyote trying to walk on it's hind legs like a human. "What on earth did they put in that whiskey!?" Zephari exclaimed, not believing her own eyes. After rubbing her eyes a couple times, the coyote was still there, still standing in cloths, waving. "Well this day just keeps on giving..." she sighed, irritated at the entire day thus far.

"Heeey," he slurred, "that's mine!"

Nails clawed at nothing but thin air as he tried to grab Safari, or whatever she was called. He spun around to alert the barkeep to this violation. "Can't you-" but the barkeep had already turned around to tend to a sleazy looking Akalak on the other end of the bar. Timothy clenched his fists at his side. She was a nasty thief! Telling him what to do? Who did she think she was? Stupid cow...

Somewhere in the background he could hear Lyerdi and the two Svefra bickering. The bouncers were already edging closer, ready to intervene-

It was then that his eyes fell on a somewhat familiar coyote. "Kyo!" he exclaimed as he shouldered his way to the animal. Struggling not to trip over his own feet he finally made it to his furry companion and, without warning, dropped to his knees and pulled the coyote close as if they had always been the best of friends. A giggle bubbled from his mouth as he withdrew from the spontaneous embrace. "You've still got your clothes on..."

Nid-nodding, Timothy scooted over to the nearest wall and rested his head against the rough stone. One hand, heated by the alcohol pumping through his veins, rested on Kyo's head. He felt so warm and fluffy...he would make for a really good cushion. He would have closed his eyes and dozed off if Zekari, no, Zephari hadn't been gawking at Kyo. Gods, that woman was starting to get on his nerves now. "What're you staring at?" Encouraged by the spirit in his drinks, his voice came out rather violent and challenging, though it hardly made any heads turn in a tavern as Shady as the Rat Hole.

Things were going fast like it was hard to keep track, though not that many things were happening. Or maybe too many. There was a lot to look at in the big big room. Lots of people doing lots of things.

Like the boy --Timothy! that was his name-- and the other-one, the one-other that was taking... steal-taking the boy's stuff! The flame-water.

The coyote would have growled but then Timothy said his name and a warm feeling --warm-different from the flame-water-- rushed over him with the boy's hugging arms. He felt his tail wagging and then was confused because he didn't even have a tail. Or did he...? As soon as the boy let go the coyote turned to try to look behind and ended up spinning a circle. Someone nearby laughed --Timothy, or someone else?-- and Kyo spun again just because. He couldn't see anything. But it still felt like he had a tail. Had... he had grown another one? Even when he stopped it felt like he was still spinning and maybe he was. Nothing like was like how it was usually. Even Timothy, who pointed out that he was wearing clothes. Of course, of course.

At some point through the spinning he found that they had moved and were near an empty table right next to a wall. The coyote was next to Timothy, that warmth like the hug before on his head now, and when he looked over at the one with the drinks he remembered... he remembered the what Timothy had said, about thief. The coyote nudged his nose to Timothy's cheek to promise he would get the drinks and then he went to get them just like he'd said.

How did he get so short, though, was he still fallen on the ground? The lady-one stood up over him like a tall tree, her hands far out of reach. The coyote said some stern words to her that didn't sound quite right but still made perfect sense to him, and then he stood up taller, on hind feet reaching up with his hands, and made to snatch one of the drinks to bring it to Timothy. When that didn't work, he began to jump and hop around her in a stumbling sort of way, still trying to get the prize for the boy.

Halfway through he sort of forgot what he was after, but it was fun to bounce around with his head all swirling and sloshing so he kept doing it anyway.

Secret :

This is what a coyote's barking sounds like.

[Rat Hole] Bad Habits

Postby Ashar on May 9th, 2015, 9:29 am

44th of Spring, 515AV
The Rat Hole

It was the one of the last establishments Ashar had ever wanted to visit. The Rat Hole. Even the name reeked of something disgusting, like roadkill that no one had bothered to remove. Just thinking about the place made the Akalak want to spit reflexively, as if such thoughts filled his mouth with bile rather than saliva. A den filled to the brim with cheap liquor and information on nearly every kind of activity occurring in the city, there was many a time when the young Kavran dreamed of managing to put it out of business for good.

Yet here he was, seeking out the Rat Hole, that den of thieves and spies.

To understand Ashar's violent reaction to such a place, one must take into account the Akalak's history. He was raised as a boy on stories of idealistic heroics and exchanges of honor, invariably favoring the upright and honest over the shadowy and deceitful. This translated into his very naive sense of righteousness that filled his head between his Rites of Trial and Passage. Even now, though cynicism was blossoming in his mind following the madness that had preceded the new year, he was loathe to accept the Rat Hole or that it was intentionally being permitted to exist with the Kuvay'Nas' knowledge.

There Ashar stood, weapon strapped to his back, staring at the dirty door to the Rat Hole. It was not uncommon for the Kavran to visit a tavern after a day of work, but visiting this particular tavern was a first. Nevertheless, he mustered up his wit and stepped through the entrance.

The sight that greeted him was vile. So many people of colorfully distasteful personalities spilling drink that was barely recognizable as ale, crowded around tables generally too small for the patrons and slipping on the muddied liquor that had already coated the floor. This being the third tier, the patrons varied wildly in race and sex, but all seemed similarly drunk in some way or another.

Wishing to avoid tarrying longer than was necessary, Ashar stepped gingerly to the bar as hurriedly as he could, avoiding as much of the disgusting puddles as he could manage. When he arrived at the bar, he made sure to sit at the very end, putting as much distance between himself and the filthier patrons as possible. He wasn't here to eat, he wasn't here to drink, he just wanted to talk with the bartender and then leave. A little information was all he required and he could be out of this shykehole.

Yet, in an uncanny streak of being roped into things, the sound of animal yelps from Ashar's left drew his attention. What he saw confused him, to say the least.

A woman holding two drinks - one presumably belonging to another - was being danced around by a coyote. A coyote. In the Rat Hole. Even with Ashar's low expectations of the establishment, it caught him by surprise. For a moment, the Kavran just watched the display before remembering that it was his duty to keep the peace. More than anything else, that was the real reason why he kept getting roped into these situations. He couldn't be a Kavran and just ignore these disruptions. Aside from duty compelling him to, it just felt right to help smooth such situations out.

If it was in the Rat Hole, the coyote probably had an owner who wouldn't appreciated losing their pet. So Ashar kept his weapon away as he approached the yapping canine, instead holding his hands before him in preparation.

"Alright, c'mere boy," Ashar said, the words of his native language rolling off his tongue. Crouching slightly, the Akalak held his hands out ready to pacify the animal if need be. Hopefully he could managed to intimidate it, but one always prepared for the worst.
Ashar is being renovated. Be patient!

"Do not try to fight yourself. Such is the road to chaos."

[Rat Hole] Bad Habits

Postby Zephari on May 11th, 2015, 2:52 am

Everything was going crazy, not even just drunk crazy, but things like this shouldn't happen crazy. Shocked to the point of being immobilized, Zephari simply took a second to try to process what was going on around her. Yahal, what did I do to deserve this day? Bringing her mind back to the real world, her senses again assaulted by the loudness of the pub, and the yipping of the animal.

The boy rushes over to the coyote, seeming to recognize it. Hugging it, the boy questions it as to why it's wearing cloths. After hugging the coyote for a few seconds he turned to Zephari and said with an irritated tone; "What are you looking at?". Wow he's hit that angry phase now. Hopefully he'll faint soon so I can get him out of here. Zephari turns to try to put the drinks down on a small table to her left, but she is quickly prevented from doing so by being rushed at by the coyote. Trying to back away from the animal, she almost trips over the leg of a drunken Akalak trying to stumble out of the bar. Steadying herself, adrenaline now pumping, she turns to face the coyote. Bring it on pup.

But the coyote wasn't trying to attack. It simply bounced up at her, trying to swat at her hands. Moving around the coyote as it yipped and jumped around her, the two of them almost in a weird sort of dance, she eventually gets one drink onto the table, not realizing its actually a different table, right next to the boy. Now she used her free hand to try to keep the animal off of her. The animal's movements where inexact and sloppy, making it easy for her to keep its head down. Is this coyote drink too? It seems to have forgotten what it was originally doing, now just bouncing around like a jester, only one with haunches.

Stunned and completely weirded out, Zephari snaps. "You know what, screw it!" Zephari semi shouts, lifting the mug of ale to her mouth, downing it in one go. The burning liquid slipped down her throat, a familiar feeling. Her slight buzz turned closer to full drunkenness, her center of gravity now deciding that it wanted to be inside her head. Her current situation now seemed much less weird, her vision blurring, everything now on an angle. That coyote's a good dancer.... Forgetting about the boy, now standing up, and almost falling over, Zephari grabbed the coyote's front paws, and started to bounce up and down with him, dancing around in a circle. "Now thash how you dances!" she said, then releasing a small hiccup. Her dancing brought them close to an Akalak man with his hands out, almost crashing into him. "Weee!!!"

OOC NoteSorry for the long wait on this reply, got hit with some bad weather and had to deal with that. Also new template! And I'm trying something slightly different with how I write internal monologue, its a style I am stealing from Shahar Dwanwhisper, since I am tired of writing it as "Zephari thought"

The heavy plonk of a mug being put down startled him. Just a while ago the tavern had sounded muffled, as if he was underwater, but now he could hear everything. From the scratching of stools over the hardwood floor down to the strange noises Kyo made. It took him several more ticks before he realised the woman had given him his drink back. He stood up, fell, stood up again, grabbed the mug with both hands and began to gulp the bitter liquid down.

Every gulp scorched his throat and made his head feel light as a balloon. The feeling in his fingertips was all but gone, but he didn't lose his sight. So when he caught sight of the Akalak cautiously approaching the coyote, he paused to look over the rim of his mug. This one looked different from the other Akalak. More serious, concerned perhaps. Yet all of that was soon forgotten.

What unfolded before his very eyes far outdid any circus act or magic trick. The woman, Za-something, started to dance with Kyo. A convulsion in his belly was the only warning. Choking, ale sprayed from his nose and mouth as he burst into laughter. Already on a streak of shattering things, the mug slipped from his hands and burst into shards on the floor.

His laughter was soon cut short as a shadow loomed over him. It was the taller of the two Sfevras. Somewhere nesr the front door an enraged Lyerdi was bring kicked out by the bouncers. Two frightfully pale blue eyes into him. Timothy's sense of smell wasn't the best, but the air around the heavily tattooed, Rhysol-may-care looking rhino of a man smelled of perfume; something cool, watery, and soothing.

"Lyerdi always loses." His voice was deep and resonant, yet the words were spoken rather quietly. Timothy followed the man's quick glance at his brother who was looking around rather nervously. "Let's have a chat," the man continued as he started to guide Timothy to the furthest, darkest corner of the establishment.

There was no flare of defiance. The man just wanted to talk, if he got annoying Timothy would just punch him. He already smiled at the thought. It wouldn't be hard, he was sure he could trounce the man with his pinkie even. Right now, he felt he could handle just about anyone. Dazed by the effects of ale, Timothy hardly noticed he was being sat down on a stool, largely hidden from sight behind a thick, half-closed curtain that cut straight through the room. He imagined it was used to make two rooms out of one, for whenever that was needed.

"You're a talented drinker," the man began. His big round face was close enough to count all the little blemishes on it. Timothy waved his hand dismissively. It was a nice compliment though. He decided he liked the Sfevra.

"You with anyone?"

Timothy shook his head. "Not really." Kyo was there of course, but he didn't know the Coyote that well.

"Got any parents?"

He shook his head again.

"So you're all alone?"

"Yeah." He wondered why the man asked those questions; probably just trying to be nice.

He flinched a little as the man lowered himself to his height and stroked a thumb over his forehead, revealing the Radacke brand underneath. The man's eyes narrowed. Then his face changed again. His tongue flicked over his lips and he smiled, and so Timothy smiled back.

"You see, we have a sister just your age. She is quite beautiful but a little lonely and she could use some company. Elora is her name. She's back at our boat and I think she would very much like to meet someone as brave and strong as you."

"Elora is a nice name," Timothy chipped in.

"Yes, but she is a bit sad because she doesn't know anyone here and when my brother and I try to cheer her up she cries sometimes."

"Oh, that's quite horrible." A pained expression distorted his features. "Could I meet her perhaps? Maybe I can cheer her up...I don't have many friends here either."

Timothy failed to notice the curt nod the Svefra gave to his younger brother. All he saw was the round, somewhat reddish face in front of him light up.

"I think she would love to meet you! Just follow me...we'll be there in a tick..."

Having quite forgotten about Kyo and the Benshira, Timothy allowed himself to be guided towards the exit, wholly unsuspecting.
