Sasuna bears the ever-changing eyes of a Vantha, bold against her light brown complexion and wide with feigned innocence. Her face is soft, the roundness of her chin lending further youth. A pair of full lips, seemingly curved up in a perpetual grin that makes one believe she knows more than she lets on, sit beneath a small nose that crinkles with laughter. The Vantha's eyebrows arch smoothly and give her an attentive look, only adding to the assumption that she is young and inexperienced, but willing to learn. Should one look closer they would find that the petite girl's easy movements hold a heaviness that betray the hardships she's suffered. Her hair cascades down her back in dark waves that shimmer and glint red and gold, tiny braids hidden in the locks. Sasuna is often clad in a multicolored, pleated skirt with floral patterns and an off-white blouse, covered by a Lhavitian-style cloak -- though she hardly finds a need for it, her gnosis keeping her comfortable even in freezing and below-zero weather. Personality Music can repair what is broken in spirit. Kind, altruistic, attentive, motherly, protective, determined, fierce... All of these words can describe Sasuna. Though she may come off as shy, unassuming, even a pushover because of her size and sweet face she has no problem speaking her mind when the situation calls for it. She usually does so in a rather passive-aggressive way that digs under the skin of the target, making matters worse instead of improving them. Sasuna gladly helps out those who live in Lhavit, even when there is no promise of reward. She is kind to a fault, forgiving people for the times they've wronged her even when they don't deserve it. Sure, she will hold grudges for a little while, but in the end what is far more important are the relationships she forges. She has a tendency to gloss over falling-outs with friends and acquaintances to keep their interactions amiable, even if they are fake. Being born into the Snowsong Hold in Avanthal, she found her passion in song and spoken word. The moment her hands came into contact with the smooth metal of a flute, she knew she must have it. She poured her life into the instrument, learning from her father and occasionally her mother. History Life is one grand, sweet song, so start the music. Sasuna's mother was a Skyglow who married into the Snowsong Hold. She was a painter, determined to capture the essence of life in her art. He father was a musician who played several instruments, his favorite being the fiddle. He encouraged his daughter's pursuit of her chosen instrument, informing her of Rhaus and his Bards. The stories amazed the youngster, who by then was almost four. When Sasuna's birthday came around the family decided to pack up and move to Lhavit, where they figured they would find inspiration for their creations, both tangible and intangible. The city was breathtaking, especially for the tiny Vantha girl who had only known her birthplace. She couldn't help but stare at all the people around her, amazed at the range of sizes and shapes and colors they came in. She was accustomed to the dark hair and skin of her own kind, the aurora-touched hair and shifting eyes that eventually grew boring after seeing them over and over every single day. Of course, her family weren't the only ones to stare. Vantha had a bit of a reputation in Lhavit, and her father often stayed later than he expected due to his talent for storytelling. Her mother's art was particularly sought after, and Sasuna was adored by many for her wide eyes and face still chubby with baby fat. The family came in contact with another, the Leslies. They were dockworkers, though the mother had taken up art after the birth of their son. It wasn't unusual for the two children to be seen together, despite the language barrier, and they grew to be close friends. This proved to be somewhat problematic when they got older, people mistaking Atticus -- the son of the Leslies -- for being the elder child even though it was Sasuna. It was all because of his height and her softness, which made her eyes flash gold and then crimson depending on how far it was taken. Just before she turned sixteen, Sasuna and her parents travelled back to Avanthal for her coming-of-age ceremony. They managed to get there in time for her birthday and reconnect with family members before the she went through the rite, then returned home shortly afterwards. It was the spring of 512 AV that both children were orphaned. The Djed storm swept across Lhavit while Atticus' parents were out at sea, Sasuna's family unable to reach safety in time after heading to the markets. The teenagers were able to support themselves, thankfully, even though it was difficult. Sasuna's skill with the flute brought in enough revenue to keep the two afloat until Atticus could begin work as well. They left their respective families' homes and moved in together, the pain of losing their parents strengthening their bonds. Sasuna's eyes were lead for weeks, dull and cold. Not even songs could lift her spirits, hard as she tried. Her father's fiddle gathered dust, left in some forgotten nook while her mother's art supplies were destroyed. She had nothing left except her flute, which only made her sadder. More recently she has recovered, spending more time with her music and Atticus than she had before. Her eye colors became more varied and smiles slipped onto her face as she returned to her work. Now her eyes go through almost all of her emotions with the exception of a few rarer ones. |
