This is Falyndar at its finest. Danger lurks everywhere - in the ground, in the trees, in the bush. Only the strongest survive...

What Bores The Boar [Neoma]

Spring 10, 515 A.V.
The blue sky above was clear as the Falyndar Region below was cluttered with life.

Xen softly pats down on his dark clothing, and the pitch black armor that layered over it. He also checks his false finger-gloves, making sure they too were secure, before he proceeded any further. The jungle air around him was dense with the scent of water, and the soil beneath his feet, loose. These things reminded him of the bog-like area of the jungle where he'd encountered a Vinumia, but the difference between the place he had been to before, and the place now was that this location had more water than mud. In addition to an extreme lack of plentiful vegetation.

Xen saw no problem with the excess water, but the area here would not provide him with much cover, which was particularly bad for him and his hunt. Xen relied on high undergrowth and large trees for cover, but here the trees were far apart and the undergrowth low at shin height. If he ran into a foe he could not handle here, it would be disastrous that Xen knew. He would have nowhere to hide, and since he did not bring his shield, he'd have to fight with a much higher chance of incurring an injury. Xen frowns at the situation before him, but knew he had to eat. It was either starving for a day, or eating with vital experience gained from success.

While accepting what life has given him to work with, Xen sighs. “ I'll have to lay my entire body flat along the ground to conceal myself entirely then, ” Xen thought as he slowly began to creep forward through the muck. He had a somewhat decent view of his surroundings, he could see a few good meters around him, but the distance was obscured by other taller plants and layers of vines. Xen, as he travels, does not see anything that captures his attention. Xen liked the mud beneath his feet, since it felt good and cool, but other than this, and the chirping birds in the canopy, nothing felt out of the ordinary to him.

But, Xen knew not to trust the clever ploys of the jungle, which is why he had his katana and two daggers with him.

He was a predator too, and maintaining this peaceful atmosphere was advantageous as naive prey seemed to enjoy basking in the peacefulness the jungle created. Xen did too, at one point, before he realized that it made him less wary of his surroundings. Now he doesn't as much, and after many experiences and errors, he plans to make use of his environments disarming nature for the hunt.

Now I have to get over this hurdle, ” He thought as he stops

Before Xen was a section of flooded jungle; he could see small fish swimming, and other small life near the bank. The water appears deep and possessed a small, flowing current. Xen wasn't entirely sure of how he would make this work in his favor, but decides he'd find another way round the flooded section. So, he walks along the bank, avoiding the deep mud that was close to the waters edge. His instincts were telling him to avoid getting close the water, until he gains a better understanding of this new territory. That he did as he proceeds to scout the area.

What Bores The Boar [Neoma]

Neoma picked delicately over the swollen, wet land of the jungle. But as delicately as she walked, her every move seemed amplified, as though it echoed in the emptiness. Her frail bones seemed to creak with each step and her long nails clicked on each stick and stone she encountered. Her laborious breathing from the thick air was heavy, and far too loud.

She would never catch anything this way.

The Symenestra sighed, and trekked onward, allowing her steps to slop into the mud and moss noisily for a few steps, before coming to a stop in an even wetter, more flooded area, so deep that fish could travel along the puddles. She briefly debated climbing a tree to look down upon her prey, but this thought was shoved to the back of her mind to save for later. She had no armor, and a jump from that height was more than likely to snap a few bones. But in this environment, her only other choice was the ground.

Neoma glanced toward the muddy waters in distaste.

It would be worth it, she reminded herself. She would catch something that not only she could eat, but the Dhani that now surrounded her in the tunnels, too. She would catch something large, something vicious, something that made the Dhani not only accept, but admire her! Neoma was going to hunt down something monstrous!

But first, she needed to find a hiding spot, and for now, the disgusting ground was it. Neoma threw her hands in the air in defeat before sighing and lowering herself to her stomach. The silk that covered her skin did no good; it was quickly soaked through and had dampened her underside. It might even have been ruined from the poking and prodding of various undergrowth.

The girl waited what must have been bells in the filth. In fact, she had almost stood up to brush the mud off of her when she heard someone approaching.

Hopefully not a Myrian. Please, not a Myrian. The mud should mask my scent, right?

Just as Neoma thought it, the most minuscule movement caught her eye from across the way. A blob of dark brown fur was approaching her slowly from a distance. A soft snuffling sound was heard, followed by a low snort.

Myrians aren't brown...And they definitely don't snort. Neoma thought to herself as she slowly lowered herself to the ground once more. This was her chance.

What Bores The Boar [Neoma]

Postby Xen on May 19th, 2015, 9:09 pm

Spring 10, 515 A.V.
Xen was scanning the area; he was searching for hidden dangers and oddities. He tries to tread silently through mud as he does so, but only manages to partially hush the squishing sounds his steps made along the way. Xen looks at the waters edge again to ensure the distance between him was great. If by some chance something was to burst from the water, he'd be prepared to move and defend himself from it, or flee, if he needed to. The path Xen had been walking did not change at all. There were no tracks, nor familiar smells; there was only silence and nothing.

I could be hunting in a bad area, again ” Xen thought as he stealthily walks through the mud. Xen knew he wasn't the best hunter and that he lacked complete knowledge on hunting game; his experiences of the past proved this. However, the knowledge he did posses made him suspect that something else had occurred, or was occurring and he couldn't sense it. Xen then narrows his eyes in suspicion and he slowly withdraws his katana from its sheathe. The weapon produces a soft ¨shinnng¨ sound before it was completely drawn. Xen was pleased now that he had his sword ready and drawn; yet, he still felt he was missing something.

He stops in the mud to attempt to think of that something he was missing, but a movement in the corner of his left eye catches his attention. When he faces the water he saw nothing on its surface, which made him assume that what had moved was now underwater. Xen couldn't see the creatures entire body in his peripheral view; however, he could confirm one thing, and that it was big. Xen backs away from the water with his katana held out in front of him.

He watches the surface of the water and the clearer edges near the bank. What he'd seen in the water was now hiding since he was currently aware of it. “Ambush predator, ” Is what came to Xen's mind as he maintained his distance. Xen was well aware of this stealth tactic; hide where you cannot be easily detected and move softly and swiftly while obscured by your element.

However, his time couldn't be wasted here.

Xen turns to face the jungle and notices something in the undergrowth. The lack of tall vegetation made the creature quite easy to distinguish. “That's probably a boar, ” Xen thought. He was somewhat familiar with boars; very big and bulky beasts, they were always found near mud and really sloppy places.
Yeah, that's definitely a boar! ” Xen thought after the beast snorts.

Xen sheathes his katana and crouches as low as he could. Today was the day he'd have boar! He unsheathes his dagger and then concentrates on concealing his presence. The element of surprise was on his side for once; it was now he had to wait for his prey to get within range. Xen could not see or detect Neoma; his mind was too focused onto the thought of food to notice her properly concealed form.
