The coloney
Ripp was born somewhere underground to a coloney on the smaller side somewhere in the Kaela region. To the shame of his mothers husband and his sons, Ripp was born a clumsy and runty Half-blood. He knew his mother as Vendetta, which later became Detta. She was the only Zith family member who somehow found it in her heart to attempt to raise him with his half brothers and sisters rather than leave him to die in the mountains. This was only possible because most of his family practiced the common tongue, which was the only way Ripp could communicate. They were fairly civilized, and lived in settlements with human slaves but his life there was brutal, and almost every day he found himself in the dirt spitting blood out of his mouth and trying to get up before whichever winged family member put him there finished him off. Most of his memories of his half brothers and sisters weren’t good ones. His memories of trying to hunt with them were worst. He was like a toddler compared to them. He could not see or hear as well as them, and he could not fly, and many times he was left behind to walk back to the colony in shame. The humiliation went on like that every day he lived there.

Vendetta
His only comfort was talking to his mother, who was, despite her race, a kind creature. It was probably only because of her that he survived past his childhood. She was overwhelmingly curious, and it was that curiosity that had lead to his birth in the first place. She left her mate and his other women often, and traveled sometimes for years. For some reason her mate always accepted her back, possibly because she had given him so many children already, and possibly because he knew she was never happy when she stayed in one place for too long. He certainly never acted like he cared for her, especially not in front of other males, but there must have been something there otherwise she would have found herself bleeding out in the snow a long time ago.
It was on one of these trips that she met the human man. She thought she must claim him for her own. The man tried to kill her at first, however somehow she managed to win him over and prime him until he trusted her. She told him lies about how she was an outcast who didn’t want to live with the monsters anymore. She flattered him and spoiled him until he had inevitably fallen for her. The man was young at the time, and Ripp’s mother, despite being a monster, had soft features very similar to Ripps, and her beauty, and her silver-tongue won him over.
Their affair did not last very long: after they became one, she left to return home again, and it was soon apparent that she was pregnant. When Detta gave birth she was on her own still far from home, and it was a miracle Ripp was even born. She told him a twin was born as well, but unfortunately she was forced to burry him not long after he was born. Weak she had no choice but to take Ripp back home with her. Detta became more unpopular than even the half blood amongst the family.

Lhavit
For 8 years Ripp grew up in that family, and by then he had been close to death twice at least. So his mother helped him run away. Lhavit wasn’t her first choice but it was the closest and she grew weary. She told him to beg them to let him in, choosing a moment where there might be sympathetic travelers around to hear his plea. When he got to the gates, he didn’t have to force himself to cry, for he was already terrified. He might be killed here. He saw all of their shiny weapons pointing at him, an 8 year old boy, and fell to his knees begging ‘Don’t kill me. Please Don’t kill me! I just need a place to live.’ Obviously his pleas tweaked a few heartstrings, and they discussed his life, rather than killing him on sight. It was the traveler that saved him. A kind and magnificent young woman who was far from her home in wind reach stood by his side with her eagle and asked them to let Ripp inside. This seems to tip the balance, and, still extremely reluctantly, they agreed to give him a home. He was only under her protection for the day while they found him a home, and he never saw her again after that. He learnt a few words in her language just so he could think her in it.
Somehow the little boy was in, but his life did not improve from there. A family took him in, reluctantly, and agreed to raise him until he could support himself here in Lhavit. That family were sailors, who swore a lot, pushed him round a lot and always smelled like fish despite how many baths they ran. They spoke Fratava around him most of the time, especially when they were arguing about their half blood foster child. It took him a while to learn anything, but he did eventually, which only made them all the more eager to kick him out.
Ripp grew up mostly in Lhavit where he couldn’t make a friend for the life of him. He was simply allowed to live there because his foster parents had vouched for him as a fairly normal child, meaning his presence in the city was the controversial hot topic growing on everyone’s grapevine. Luckily here very few citizens actually caused trouble for him with physical violence, however he became accustomed to being blanked on the streets, called names, sworn at and the like. He was determined to prove to them he could be just like them, so despite this he worked hard to become useful.

Kim
He looked for a job, any job. He was so desperate to be able to move into his own apartment that he would have taken anything. A seamstress named Kimberley gave him a job mending clothes, and he was so happy to finally have an income that suddenly he could put up with everything else. This woman was like a grandmother to him, and soon enough Ripp had put in enough effort to learn that he was ready to inherit the store for her. He loved making clothes, and he found he was very artistic. He began to become stronger. He took it upon himself to become an individual in this place and he desided he didn’t care about anyone but this old lady. He didn’t like people otherwise, and grew distant, started doing whatever he wanted, even making himself look scarier with facepaint and Kohl, and by experimenting with hair dye.
Ripp confided with Kim his past, his feelings, everything he would not share with a single other soul. Kim encouraged him to find his father, wherever he might be, she said family was important, and that, when she was gone, he should seek them out. When she inevitably passed on, Ripp left Lhavit.

Enter, Ripp!
He was now 16 and he had decided that he wanted to find his father after all. All he had was a drawing of him, his name, and the fact that he hailed from Zeltivia, a place that seemed a lifetime away. He packed his bags and refilled his heart with hope. He was going to track this man down. At least it would give some sort of meaning to his existance.
