Dravite's encouragement and acknowledgement that her skills as a hunter may yet bear fruit with the passing of time and practice, was a kind gesture; one keenly felt and greatly needed in her time of self-doubt. As their conversation continued to flow, Ethynia was consistently surprised with the ease in which she felt she could talk to the man and with how kindly he reciprocated. It was clear in the way the man held himself, his disciplined movements and sensitive nature that needed no effort in thinking of others - that this was a man of great honor. A man with ethics, Ethynia was beginning to admire.
As he spoke of the wandering history of his pavilion through out the Sea of Grass, Ethynia's imagination began to spiral with fantasised thoughts of the surrounding grassland - far beyond the borders of where even she had explored. She could see that Dravite had been sculpted from his broaden experiences, perhaps this was why he was so self-confident in who he was. Suddenly pulled from deep thoughts, she was not expecting for Dravite to suggest she also join the Watch. Her first thought of the notion was preposterous, she did not consider herself worthy or skilled enough to join their ranks.
However, as Dravite pulled back the fur mantle, Ethynia's gaze searched his stern, yet gentle features for a moment, gauging the seriousness of his suggestion, or whether it was just an off-handed idea. Then a single thought struck her - why was it such an inconceivable thought? They had always been warriors that had inspired Ethynia as a child. Tales of their bravery and adventures had always ignited a fire within her gut. A fire that always remained smouldering just beneath the surface, waiting to come to life.

As she followed Dravite's lead, she entered through the doorway first, bowing her head in gratitude for more than the simple gentlemanly act of holding the door. Crossing the threshold, Ethynia's chocolatey gaze took a moment before getting used to the dim lighting. Only briefly observing her surroundings, her curious gaze came at last to settle upon the imposing figure of the blonde male before them. Stepping aside so that Dravite may present himself to the man, she did her best not to attract attention while Dravite attended to his business.
When Aris formerly introduced himself, she then knew they were in the right place. As she gazed upon him, she'll admit, in slight awe, it became clear that all the stories her father had told her about him were more than true. It was only when Dravite made to introduce her after he had himself, that she suddenly realised she had not given him her name! Her cheeks tinted a pale rose colour in slight embarrassment, how rude he must of thought her!
Despite thinking Aris's snort to Dravite's request ignorant and uncalled for, due to hearing stories of the man, she did not find it surprising. She had to restrain the urge to jump to his defense however, as she noticed Dravite was taken aback by the question. Watching the conversation unfold she studied Aris's features intently with the intention of gauging his thoughts on Dravite, though it was impossible to tell for the man gave nothing away. She was perfectly content remaining unnoticed and playing the part of a spectator, witnessing the beginnings of a new life for Dravite come to life, when suddenly Aris turned his attentions towards her.
Left momentarily speechless, Ethynia had not yet had time to properly consider Dravite's suggestion. Although, within that simple, secret smile that was flashed her way, her heart's desire sung in place of her head before she had even time to realise what had come out of her mouth,

"I am Ethynia, daughter to Ahanu Folkvar of the Topaz Clan. The man that presents himself before you is an honourable one, with many skills beyond those of just the physical to offer and is someone you would do well to consider to swell the ranks of The Watch." - That brown gaze unfaltering from the sight of the Tavekh before her was afire with passion.

She could not help herself, despite the high standing Aris held among the Drykas, Ethynia could not forego backing up the man beside her she obviously perceived as her friend. Within a split second after, her heart voiced what her brain was too slow to realise,

"I am some-what skilled with a bow and sure enough I can ride. But what I offer is loyalty, passion and a willingness to stake my life and to do what is necessary to protect our people."

For the first time since leaving the bossom of her surrogate pavilion, Ethynia felt sure of her decision, felt strong in her own self, enough to believe she could make it within the Watch. Though, as her brain suddenly caught up to what was happening, a knot of anxiousness as to Aris's response made her stomach churn.

Ethynia was a kind woman. Her words to Aris in Dravite's favour saw the young horse lord bow his head. He stitched his fingers together in front of him and closed his eyes; never had he heard someone speak so kindly on his behalf, and the fact that they had been shared by a complete stranger somehow made it all the more endearing. Ethynia had nothing to gain in doing so, and yet she had done it all the same. An honourable woman, one he would be happy to know better and to work with alongside in the ranks of The Drykas Watch.

Aris stood up from his seat and smiled. "So you can shoot and ride, and this one can ride and manipulate the web."

Dravite lifted his head to watch the man, keeping a stern face, brow creased and lips closed together as if to stop himself from speaking.

"I could use a man of your talents. We are still making a lot of repairs to the webbing right across the Sea of Grass after the storm of 512, and general breakdown," Aris explained, "But webbing is a dangerous practice, leaving your physical body unhoused until your safe return."

The taller Tavehk with dirty blond hair paced back and forth slowly as if he were contemplating something unforeseen, at least by the pair that stood in front of him. "I don't usually accept members who fall under the requirements."

Dravite felt his heart stop and sink into his gut from where it had been housed in his throat temporarily. What would he tell his family, how would he deal with such rejection?

"But in saying that," Aris smiled, or made some hardened gesture with his mouth that could have almost been a smile, "I think the two of you would make a good team and as we prefer teamwork to senseless acts of heroism, you two might just make the cut."

The Tavehk scratched the tips of his burly fingers over the rough smattering of facial hair across his jaw and nodded, sure that he had said all that he intended to say. He gave the new recruits a black wrist band each interwoven with a white strider across the band. "Take these, they let people know that your work is of The Watch, but give you no authority otherwise. I'm counting on the two of you to work hard and earn the title of Ra'athi by the end of summer."

Aris pinned each of them with his gaze as if to say that nothing good would come of disappointing him. "Windborne."
"Yes, sir?" Dravite spoke up having slipped the black band onto his right wrist.
"Your webbing ability is a gift, treasure it and promise me you will never share it with an outsider."
"I promise."
"Good," Aris nodded. "I will task you with teaching Ethynia here what you can in the coming seasons, but I expect both of you to hone your weapon skills in that time, starting today."
"Today?" Dravite asked after glancing at Ethynia quickly.
Aris laughed. "You're of The Watch now, I expect you to work if you mean to collect a wage."

Dravite moved his hands behind his back and nodded, it seemed he had found courage in front of a man who was at times hard to read. Aris seemed cold and yet, there was a warmth about him fringed with a dark sense of humour. "We will get straight to that," Dravite chose to speak on their behalf.
"Good," Aris waved a hand to the door. "Our training facilities are open to you both. Beyond this camp you will find our setup. Familiarise yourself with the place and the people, I expect you will both be spending a lot of time there."

Dravite closed his right fist against his breast and took a shallow bow before making his way to the door. He pulled back the leather flap and waited outside for Ethynia in case she had any words for Aris that she wanted to state in private. The start of a new adventure, Dravite smiled at the thought and looked out across the city of tents with a positive new outlook on life..

For a moment Ethynia was sure the Tavehk's stern expression, could only mean one thing and in that moment it was then she realised, just how much she found herself wanting him to say yes. She surprised even herself at just how much she realised she wanted this. She could feel the same emotions churning within Dravite's chest as she quickly stole a glance at his marble-etched features.
As Aris continued to point out the pairs shortcomings, Ethynia had to bite her lip - hard - to prevent from speaking out of turn. She yearned to fight for their dreams - ' their ' dreams, not a moment ago it had merely been his dream - yet the Watchman then suddenly came out with that ' But ' and her stomach fluttered as though a million butterflies had hatched inside all at once.
Her feminine features, remaining stoic, placid when Aris addressed them, yet as soon as his gaze faltered to pick up the black wrist bands, Ethynia couldn't help but slip a momentary childish and beaming grin towards Dravite. A rush of excitement, of adrenaline at the new possibilities, the life that would await her as soon as she left this tent flooded Ethynia with a new sense of purpose - something she had been lacking not only this morning. Yet she could not feel even more happier than she did for the man that stood beside her. She had only just met him, but she could tell that joining the Watch meant a lot to him and it swelled her heart to see his dream become a reality.

Restraining her features quickly, once more to that firm fixture as Aris handed them their official black wrist bands, Ethynia could not hide her joy from sparkling within her chocoate gaze. Swiftly Ethynia slipped the prized black band onto her left wrist, rubbing her thumb over the material for a moment in admiration, before letting her hands drop to her sides once more. Aris's intimidating gaze fixed onto her like a hawk on prey, yet after seeing a smile ghost across his expression before, she realised he was not as heartless as he seemed, especially when he paired her with Dravite for training.
She was just as surprised as Dravite appeared to be, when she exhanged glances with him, that they would begin immediately. Though again she was shocked to find that her gut was already itching to get started already. She had so much to learn before she would be anywhere near the skills of her comrade, but the very prospect of having something to work towards, of having a purpose, meant more to her than she could ever form into words. And it appeared that despite the two being strangers, Dravite knew her heart better than she had. It dumbfounded her at the sheer coincidence of their meeting and begged into question as to whether or not it was a coincidence at all.
As Aris mentioned that he would expect them both to be spending a lot of time in the training facilities, Ethynia followed Dravite's lead, placing clenched fist upon breast, "Yes Sir!" The amount of enthusiasm leaking through her voice, testament to how genuine both her and Dravite's pledges to train were. With bowed head, Ethynia thought to leave with Dravite as he made for the fur flap, yet found her feet firmly placed.

Waiting until the man had left, Ethynia raised her gaze to look upon the Tavehk, "Sir, my father told me many stories about you as a child. You were renowned all throughout our Clan."
Aris grunted with one brow raised as he folded his arms in repsonse, "Did he now?"
With the curl of a smile Ethynia nodded, "Yes Sir and it is an honor to serve with the man who brought such high repute to the Topaz. I only hope I can live up to your standards."

"Aye well you won't bring nothing to no one standing around here all day now will you? I didn't give you that band to stand around and chat, now get to work."

Although his features remained cold, stern, set in their ways, Ethynia could almost swear she caught a glimpse of a smile shining through those intense eyes of his and couldn't help but smile as she dipped her head in respeactful acknowledgment of his orders before turning upon her heal and disappearing through the fur mantle.
Squinting for a moment as her eyes readjusted to the brightness of Syna's light, Ethynia grinned childishly at the man waiting for her, "You did it, you're in! Now lets go make sure we keep you in and not get on the bad side of the Tavehk before we've even started!"

The Watch

“No, we did it,” Dravite smiled, how could he not? This girl he had stumbled into on his morning stroll towards Endrykas had found something she seemed to have lacked only thirty chimes ago. Purpose was a strong driving force in the Drykas people and now that the pair had found it, they didn't want to disappoint. “We have a hell of a lot of work ahead of us if we're going to make rank,” Dravite laughed, still a little baffled as to how they had been accepted on their word alone. Hopefully their merits would shine in the coming seasons and both would be able to impress the man behind the stern mask.

When they reached the training grounds Dravite felt a little underwhelmed by the sight he saw. There were tattered targets set up that had seen so much use the painted lines were all but faded. A rack housing a selection of training weapons was twisted and bent out of shape, bowed by the strength of Syna’s light. The fighting pit was reduced to a six by six metre square of mud and horse scat. Dravite took hold of a spear and compared the weight to that of his own, only to find the end was completely broken away. “It a good thing I brought my own spear along,” the horse lord grinned, scratching the back of his head through tangled hair.

He raised his spear and pointed it at one of the targets, lining up a shot he then attempted to make. As the spear cut through the air, it whistled, struck the target’s edge and went to ground. The man had not put enough force behind his throw, but he was willing to work on that to perfect it. As Dravite moved to collect his spear he looked back over his shoulder at Ethynia and smirked. “Perhaps it was not a good thing I managed to bring this along after all, for now I must spend the morning embarrassing myself.”

“Have you ever used a spear?” Dravite asked before slamming the sharp point of his own into the centre of the tattered target, still off the mark even at close range.

He was going to get frustrated with himself if he could not improve to the level Aris needed them to be by the end of summer. Going into winter without the proper training would do neither of them any good as times were hard then, and The Watch was ever vigilant of the plain and all those who tried to cross it. “You said you were good with a bow. I've never handled one before, I’d like to see what you can do,” Dravite encouraged, eager to find out what his assigned companion was like with her chosen weapon.

Moving to stand at Ethynia’s side, Dravite pressed the blunt end of his spear into the soft ground and leaned into the weapon, watching the target he expected the woman to shoot for if indeed she was going to. .
