She has an even complexion, high cheekbones and elegant eyebrows giving her a cool, regal air. What is most striking about Chione, however, is the bilateral vitiligo that cuts across her skin in pale, high-contrast swatches and distinguishes her from those who share similar skin tones. Unfortunately the vitiligo-affected skin is far more susceptible to sunburns, so it is not uncommon to see her with a sheer scarf or shawl draped across her arms and shoulders to protect herself. The Eypharian stands at 5'6, and after one notices her vitiligo the next most striking thing is the fact that she has six arms. Despite the multiple limbs, her vitiligo is still fairly symmetrical on them all. She is usually seen with painted lips and kohl'd eyes, opting for simple white clothing instead of vivid, shocking tones. Rarely does she wear jewelry aside from the rope garrote around her low left wrist, if it could even be considered jewelry. Her hair is wavy and falls past her shoulders, normally worn loose or elaborately braided if not wrapped up in one of her two brilliantly-colored scarves. Character Concept A common joke about Eypharian women is that they are born with elaborate designs on their skin. For Chione, that is true. Her vitiligo, once seen as an abomination and a disease, became a source of pride when she discovered that men (and the occasional woman) enjoyed the sharp contrast of her skin tones. After being rejected from Semhu training due to being deemed unsuitable for the art, Chione turned to other professions. Sex work was not an option; she preferred to keep her body to herself. She was hopeless at dancing and the arts in general. Massage, however, she enjoyed and excelled at. When she realized this, Chione pushed herself to achieve and surpass her own goals. Six hands were useful when they could be coordinated to relax her client. However, since she is still young she has much to learn. Being an Eypharian in Kenash, she is the victim of open disdain -- though it rarely goes unrequited. She is a proud woman and holds her head high, though she recognizes that she is at a disadvantage in the city and her racism is thinly veiled when she happens to begin a conversation with one of higher status than she. Character History Chione was, like most Eypharians, born in Ahnatep. Her father was a moderately influential businessman with many connections and her mother was born into wealth that she maintained through careful words and calculated transactions. Being Gilded, Chione was subject to many luxuries those of lower status didn't have access to. However, she was also subject to criticism if she failed to reach and surpass the goals set by both herself and society. When she was rejected from Semhu training it took a toll on the child, who turned her back on the arts and refused to speak to those outside her family for nearly a month. It was in her eighth year that her mother bore another infant, a baby boy. He was named Shoshan and, like his sister, was submitted to begin Semhu training at the age of five. However, Shoshan was accepted and became a source of pride for the family. Even Chione was happy for him. Unfortunately as Shoshan flourished and excelled at his chosen art, resentment formed in the elder sibling's heart. She became distant, partly due to him not having inherited her vitiligo and partly because she viewed herself as a failure. She threw herself into her massage work, pressured to become one of the greatest. Shortly after she turned sixteen she realized that the taunts and half-whispered sneering insults had transformed into soft, almost awed murmurs of sabine. She was beginning to be recognized for her beauty and the exotic patterns her bilateral vitiligo formed. Though they were supposed to be complimentary, Chione couldn't help but feel unsettled by the sudden change. Her mother could sense the discomfort of her daughter and gifted her with a rope garrote, beautifully adorned in various colors. She kept it around a lower wrist or around her neck (usually the former) for safety, in case one of her clients or a stranger on the street decided to be a bit too friendly. More than once she has had to threaten someone with them, though there is no blood on her hands so far. It was on her nineteenth birthday that she departed from Ahnatep, leaving to journey to Kenash. It was there she found some sense of purpose, though she noticed the predatory glances in her direction and suspected that some wanted her for themselves and hoped she would neglect becoming Freeborn so her foreign beauty could be bought and used. She was not some airheaded human, however. She was an Eypharian, and as such she knew that some things should be taken care of sooner rather than later. Within a week she bore the mark of a Freeborn and took the brunt of disdain for her people with a face that held little emotion. She knew that Eypharians were openly disliked, but she was determined to make something of herself despite the many obstacles that lay in her path.
