Name: Alichino

Race: Human

Born: 493 AV

Age: 17

Physical Description: Alichino has a soft, androgynous face accented by wild eyes and a large forehead. His cleanly shaven face is generally decorated by his wide, dimpled smile. His hair is short and wavy and its style changes depending upon his mood or what particular character he is impersonating. He stands above most men at 6'2” though few notice because he rarely stands up in a perfectly straight fashion due to his attention to contrapposto. He is lightly muscled, he has the physique of an acrobat, not of a serf.

Character Concept:

Personality: Almost always smiling, Alichino appears as a happy if unsettling individual. However, in reality he is a haunted and broken man. Beneath the facade he lives in a mental agony of twisted philosophies and a pale-horse resolve. If you asked why he makes a fool of himself he would tell you, "Life's a big joke, and I'm laughing at it." In other words, life is absurd and nothing matters, so he chooses to ironically show it as the joke it is. Unfortunately, he cannot deny the possibility that the world may in fact have a purpose, but then he would have wasted his life and rather than a genius he would be the greatest of fools. As such he seeks that purpose, as all men do, but for different reasons.

Ethics: Alichino is a moral nihilist. There are no ethics, only whims.

Likes: He loves people with a good sense of humor, especially if they're willing to laugh at themselves. He enjoys impressing and entertaining them with his performances. He also has a great respect for other artists, especially if they are of great skill. He likes a man who can die laughing. Alichino is also an adrenaline addict.

Dislikes: The clown absolutely hates serious, devout, and busy people. One who does not laugh at the world does not see it as it truly is (or as Alichino sees it). One who follows a religion and puts it above their own wants is cheating and lying to themselves. Busy people always have goals that are in the end meaningless, so if they're too busy for a good laugh what good are they? Alichino will actively seeks to vex or even kill these people.

Character History:

Pre-Creation: When Alichino was young he played the part of the young Franz Samsa Esq. He was never truly a squire, but when news of his potential job as an arms bearer for a Syliran knight spread through his small village everyone was so excited for him that they would call him this. They continued to call him this even after the knight had never returned for three years. At first his father was proud of him and young Franz would have been able to pay off his father's mounting debts, but when he was never requisitioned for the duty his father displaced his misfortunes onto little Franz via fist and switch. In truth, the small boy never wanted to be a squire or even a knight, but rather a writer or wizard. These wishes were spawned by his avid reading, but were stifled by his father's wrathful incineration of any book discovered in the boy's possession. The resulting angst was precisely what threw him into the Cult of the Mind's Eye.

This was a group of individuals who would meet in secret, perform meta-religious rituals, and discuss philosophy. The unifying belief of this group was that if a self aligned into perfect philosophical understanding of the universe it would transcend humanity and reach apotheosis. A popular sect of the Cult was the nihilistic group to which Franz became a member. His induction ceremony was the ritual of The Abyss in which the group would lead his mind through a series of absurdities and attempt to have him resolve that nothing has any form of inherent value. Unfortunately, when he came to the conclusion that there was no purpose in life he was possessed by an errant madness. His rage was such stabbed all nine members of the small spin-off group to death. He shed no tears from this as they were not truly his friends. They were always saw themselves as above all others in terms of philosophical understanding due to their out of control narcissism.

He could not quell his fury and indeed did not try. He kicked down the door to his small cottage and grappled with the object of hatred in his life. He stabbed his father in the throat and watched him die. However, he felt no triumph at this atrocity. Before him he did not see the oppressive patriarch that was the source of all of life's sorrows. Rather, he saw a sorry, decrepit old man weakened by illness who had the same feelings towards Franz as Franz had towards him. He began crying profusely and stabbed his father in the face four more times both to end his father's agony and out of general rage at the world. He cried more, but saw himself as the most despicable bastard in existence. A vile, sniveling tumor on the face of the world. He resolved that he did not deserve to cry and recalled the idea of the world being absurd. He found comfort in it and laughed. How could a dastardly stain like himself live and die? Where is the divine punishment? "OH GREAT, POWERFUL GODS, WHERE IS THE RETRIBUTION FOR THIS?" he mocked, "SMITE ME!" he cried, "SUFFER NOT THIS DEVIL TO LIVE OR THERE IS NO GOOD IN THE WORLD!" There was no response from the heavens. The silence crept into the room and crawled over his skin. He viewed the situation around him and began to laugh once more. He set fire to the house partly to mock the universe for not slaying the sordid monster he was and partly because he did not find the form his father was in dignified. As the wooden frame smoldered away, so too did his humanity.

Since then, Franz has picked up the pseudonym Alichino, the harlequin devil from his folklore. He has traveled, living his life as a representation of the world's being a cruel joke. He loves art because he views it as being beautiful without having a real purpose. He performs for people in order to entertain and occasionally pay the cost of living. As part of his satire he will assassinate people at will. Either because they are too exemplary of good and killing them exemplifies his principle of the amoral universe, or because he simply does not like that. However, he chooses to assassinate rather than outright killing people because that would be trying to hard to let civil authority win and evidence the lie that is righteousness.
