History: Jara is the second eldest son on the Ankal, born just three years behind Akenna. Though he always knew Akenna would be the Ankals' heir, it never created a divide between the two brothers. Their upbringing caused them to become inseparable and Sicaras' intolerance of petty squabbling strengthened their bond.

History: The Earthsongs have been skilled webbers for many generations. They were never a big family though and recently two ill fated forays out onto the sea of grass have seen their number shrink to almost nothing. Ead was the Ankal for more than a decade. But he was lost to all knowledge when he went out to investigate a disturbance in the web. That left his younger brother Latham as the new Ankal. But he too suffered the same mysterious fate, along with his son and heir, Faenn. That left Ead’s only son, Cynelaf, as Ankal. His great grandmother, Sen’net still survives and helps care for Latham’s widow’s three little girls (ages 1, 3 and 4). Their mother, Bebbin, has hastily married again – to her former nephew by marriage, the new Ankal, Cynelaf. It’s a marriage of convenience and one which hasn’t been, and probably will never be, consummated. Cynelaf only did it to prevent Bebbin’s former “admirer” from claiming her as his second wife.

Physically, the pavilion itself is rather small. There are segments of the tent separated off by cloth walls, so that Bebbin and her three little girls have a “room, as does Cynelaf (the one he used to share with his cousin, Faenn), and his great-grandmother now has the “room” Ead used to occupy. Besides that, there is simply a common living area and a set up outside for cooking.

Sen’net came originally from the Ruby clan, from a family of skilled carvers and glyphers. She married a webber of the Earthsong Pavilion, and bore several children. Only two survived to adulthood, and when her husband died, she remained with the Earthsongs, tending for grandchildren and then great grandchildren. She has outlived many of her descendants, most recently her grandsons, Ead and Latham. Now her great grandson, Cynelaf, is the only surviving male of the pavilion, and thus has suddenly and unexpectedly become Ankal.

Sen’net spends her days tending to her greatgrandaughters and also still does some carving, mostly of bones, although her hands are twisted with arthritis. She also still performs glyphing, primarily with the items she carves, which are predominantly special totems for the tent poles that hold up pavilions. Her glyphs imbue the poles with strength, flexibility and durability.

Bebinn’s father is a highly respected Ankal whom many regard as a very wise man. As Ankal of the Riverborn Pavilion, he is often sought out in matters under dispute, and his judgments are usually accepted as final. When Bebinn was around 16, one of her father’s companions (Ranulff) began courting her. But he had a bad reputation. It was rumored he actually killed his first wife in a fit of jealous rage. Bebinn did not wish to marry him, although her family thought it a good match. They did not believe the rumors. Eventually, Bebinn “eloped” with the man she truly loved, Latham Earthsong. He was older than she, and not even Ankal, of what was, admittedly, an unimportant pavilion of webbers. But he was dashing and handsome and charming, and kind. Her family was very upset with her marrying Latham. Ranulff was beside himself with fury.

Tensions ran high between the three families, but Bebinn and Latham were happy together and eventually she bore him three daughters. Tragedy seemed to lay in wait for her, though. First her brother-in-law, Latham’s elder brother, Ead, the pavilion’s Ankal, disappeared out on the sea of grass. Latham unexpectedly took his brother’s place as Ankal, but only for a short time. Then he too, and his son by a first marriage, disappeared.

On top of her grief, Bebinn once again was fearful that Ranulff would try to claim her as a bride. Out of this fear for herself and her little girls, she turned in desperation to her nephew by marriage, Cynelaf, Ead’s son. She begged Cynelaf to marry her, if only to prevent Ranulff from finally getting his way. Cynelaf consented and now, once again, in a very odd sequence of events, Bebinn is still the wife of the Ankal.

History: Definitely one of the more affable members of the Pridesun Pavilion, it's hard to take offence to Sedon. A stout man with maybe more of a belly than is good for him, such a look still bodes well for one responsible for most of the pavilion's meals. Sedon has shown his talent for taking slaughtered animals and scavenged plants, and making them into meals that could feed a dozen men. He's always willing to show others the proper way to fix a stew, skin a rabbit or treat a wound (the latter of which is, of course, a standard risk for one working with sharp knives all day). When the Pridesun healer cannot be found, most go to Sedon for aid. Not only does he know a thing or two about wounds, but he's agreed to be a much more pleasant personality.

History: A relatively new Pavilion, the Firetongue Pavilion earns their money through veterinary care. The Pavilion care for each other but are fairly independent. They all help out to varying degrees with the care of the animals, though some have separate jobs whilst others dedicate all their time to the Pavilion business. The oldest named family members are Beka (61yo), the Ankal, and his younger brother Fenrir (55yo). Their father was the previous Ankal but is now deceased. The other named family members are connected to Fenrir. His child born to his first wife (deceased) is Rosanna (28). His child born to an unnamed mother who left Endrykas 24 years old is a svefra, Valko (26, PC). His remaining children, born to Carla, are Jez (25, PC) Farrah (22), Salva (20), twins Caleb and Liam (19) and Kai (18, PC).

History: Rosanna has her windmarks. Rosanna’s childhood was shaped around the loss of her mother so early on. While she shared in Valko’s pain of not being full siblings to the other children of the Pavilion, his situation was different so she couldn’t fully explain her feelings. Carla welcomed her as if she were her own daughter, but on bad days Rosanna couldn’t help the feelings of not quite fitting in. Noticing this, the adults allowed her to hang around while they worked. The animals brought her solace in a way the other children never could, and by the time she started thinking about a future she already knew that she would follow in her father’s footsteps. She saw how losing a fiancé affected Valko and has sworn against falling in love, so as to avoid that pain; the animals are her everything. She is the most likely to take over her father's job.

History: Salva does not have his windmarks. Though dedicated to his Pavilion, Salva is not really cut out for life as a Drykas. Too many times as he grew up was he in an accident and almost killed. His devotion to the Gods is largely down to the fact that he is still alive, and he thanks them for each day he survives. Not wanting to lose him, the Ankal gave him a job that meant he stayed within the tent most of the time. The least adventurous of his siblings, he is often in awe of their tales.

Now that her children are all grown she is looking into other hobbies to figure out whether there’s something she wants to do for herself.

Later he met Jonas and resolved to follow his newfound leader all the way to Endrykas.

At the age of twenty-six, unsatisfied with her life, she left for Sylira, attracted its reputation for safety and culture, and found work in an inn. Still, the atmosphere and the rules clashed with her Sunberthian upbringing and she left again. Her journey led her into Cyphrus and the Sea of Grass, where she met the Pridesun caravan and joined them on their way to Endrykas.

History:

There is a neat tale behind the origins of the Heartgrass Pavilion, one that Ceadar enjoys telling to all and sundry. Once, there were a man and a woman of the Watch, who were hunting a wrongdoer through the grasses of Cyphrus. The two had a bond of friendship, formed through their time in the Watch. The man was a healer, blessed by Rakk'eli, and the woman was a hunter, clever and fierce. Whilst searching, they discovered a circular glade of flattened grass. Naturally they explored this oddity, finding only that the glade was carpeted underneath with some kind of creeping flower, pretty and white, and smelling of blossom. They were about to leave, when something made them stop. A small, brown creature, similar to a deer, stopped at the edge of the tall grasses. In a peculiar display of calm, the deer stepped right up to the pair. Time seemed to stop, and it was in that moment they realised they were in love, and always had been. And so the Heartgrass Pavilion was born.

The Heartgrass Pavilion is not the oldest, nor the youngest pavilion. Made up of a growing number of members, this pavilion used to be nearing the small end of the spectrum, with only a handful of Drykas sustaining it. However, now the pavilion has grown rapidly, much to the Ankal's happiness. Benefiting from a number of skilled members, the Heartgrasses are always kind and accepting, and choose to welcome rather than exclude.

Ced was the eldest son of the previous Ankal, and had a stable upbringing. He married young and took over the day-to-day running of the pavilion once his father grew frail and elderly. Throughout his life, Ced has sired ten children with two wives, and although the family is now expanding rapidly he keeps the family connected and happy through frequent pavilion meetings and get-togethers. One of his favourite things to do is tell stories to his grandchildren.

History:

Amiella was the first wife of Ceadar, and is one of the most-loved people in the pavilion. Her touch is seen almost everywhere, helping her grandsons and granddaughters, as well as her great grandchildren, into the world. The matriarch takes pride in a happy family, and as such is extremely proud of the Heartgrasses.

History:

Tila married into the Heartgrass Pavilion when she came of age and bonded with her strider. In her early years, she struggled with an abusive mother who beat her and verbally brought her father to his knees. The atmosphere pushed her to escape as often as possible, and she enjoying driving wagons with a neighbouring pavilion, learning how to work with horses in every way possible. As she finally escaped her mother's grip, she found a warm welcome in the Heartgrasses. With her skills in driving, she soon became the pavilion's lifeline, making sure that they were organised and packed up every time they were on the move. Now she is mother to four children, and beloved wife to a growing pavilion.

History:

Having seen her husband die, and then her only two children, Lauran is a silent, meditative woman who is gravely ill and virtually on her deathbed. During her youth the woman was capable of many things, ranging from cooking to mending to archery to weaving. Yet in her later years the capability to do these tasks has slipped from her, leaving her in a pitiful state. She is only alive due to the administrations of her granddaughter and family, who cannot bring themselves to let her pass on. Although physically she is able to do basic tasks, mentally the woman struggles to remember much of her past or indeed her present, and often thinks she is a child or young adult again. She also struggles to understand the motions behind certain things, such as making food for herself.

An internally fragile woman but outwardly happy, Epaiza is new to the pavilion, having only moved with her mother and child in Winter 516. When her husband was killed in a glassbeak attack, she became the backbone of the fractured pavilion left behind. When it became difficult to maintain that pavilion, she gratefully accepted the help of the Heartgrass Pavilion, and joined their family. She is friendly and gets on particularly well with children, although she often keeps to herself. However, despite losing her husband and pavilion, she is beginning to recover and is tentatively searching for a new partner to become a father for her child.

In her new pavilion, Julai is slowly coming into her own and becoming rather talkative and slightly mischievous. Sometimes, she can be quite a handful, full of black moods and excessive gaiety.
