AppearanceRace: Human - Drykas
Gender: Female
Age: 26
Birthday: 29th of Fall, 489 AV
Birthplace: Riverfall, Cyphrus
Appearance: Selene is a regular looking member of her race: she is 5'7 tall, weights 120 lbs and has a lean but muscular figure. Her skin is of a golden brown that conveys the healthy feeling of natural tanning. Her hair are left long as it's common custom in her clan. Their brown, but colour perfectly match her eyes.
Beneath her traveller coat (a tick greenish mantle that she wraps around herself shielding any natural adversity) it's possible to see the pallid reflection of opals (coming form her home clan) and the complicated knot-works that usually embed them in her every-day items, such as the top-end of her boots or her bow-case.
Running vertically along her rib cage, Selene has a windmark that culminates into a tortoise, a symbol of endurance and wisdom, which she received when Artemisia, her first strider, choosed to take care of her.
Ever since, her windmark expanded twice: at the age of 19th when Artemisia died a new bottom part was added
and again few months later when Apogeo, Artemisia's son, officially choose Selene the windmark was expanded to overreach her shoulder.
Character HistorySelene lived most of her life under the simple rules of the Opal clan of the Chyprus grassland. Her pavillion stretched to the maximum to host the members of her family: her gradparents ('the Ankal' and ''granma"), her uncle, aunt and cousins and of course her parents and brothers and sisters. While the pavilion is currently only hosting 5 "second generation" children, over the course of the years Selene had seen many brothers and cousins (especially males approaching puberty) die. Life was harsh and it could always be harsher, so as the strong adults were fully occupied by hunting and gathering provisions for the family, Selene and household's children were raised by their grandmothe. The males were taught how to hunt, while females learned to recognise herbs and heal wounds. They were introduced to wild horses since the youngest ages and once a rider was picked by a strider, they would officially become active members of the family life. For Selene's brothers that meant starting to hunt (and consequentially the premature death of half of them), while the females were given the responsibility of answering any distress call and rapidly succour and heal wounded fellows.
As Selene started to display special healing capabilities her grandmother introduced her to the web. Although Selene had seen her Ankal tangling with it many times in the past, this was the first moment she was truly aware of its existence. "We all exist within the web" her granmother said and Selene understood what she meant when, touching the web, the overflowing impressions of all the members of her clan came at her. Her grandmother believe that healers should be able to read the web to assist wounded as promptly as possible, thus she assisted Selene and mentored her into learning to read and cast webs. Since in Cyprus even the most novice webbers can connect to a network sustained by more competent clan members Selene never pushed herself too much to develop this skill. The only web she ever cast herself is a single string that constantly connects her to Apogeo.
As Selene grew playing between the solid legs of the Cyphrus Striders who trotted around her pavilion she became the protegee of a mare, who treated Selene and her foal with equal care. Once Selene grew old enough to be able to stay on the horse's back it became evident that the mare had chosen her as her rider. At the age of 10 the bond was made official by the traditional windmark. By that time, the mare had had her second foal, Apogeo, who soon became the closest thing to a brother Selene ever had. The two grew so close together that he could easily be mistaken for Selene's strider, which he eventually became after the mare's death in 509 AV. That is also the year since which Selene is known by this name, as Selene was the name of her first strider, the mare, adopted out of respect. Ever since, nobody addresses Selene by the name given to her by her parents.
Once her closest brother died in 505 AV, Selene picked up his shortbow and star of the female healers of her clan. Compared to other members, Selene could not justify the individual insignificance of her existence' by the 'magnitude of the web' and the 'power of community'. Partly unaware of it, she started to explore her continent trying to find a meaning to their life in the sea of grass. The fundamental question, mining her mind, was 'why are we staying here when life is so harsh'. Although symbiotically bonded with nature, Selene does not believe that Drykas should stay in such a hostile land.
Early this spring Selene started to travel toward Konti joining a caravan. Her community life was leaving her intrinsically unsatisfied and her quest is meant to teach her about different lifestyles, costumes, habits. She hopes to eventually go back with increased knowledge to improve the nomad life of her clan. Her ultimate goal is to reach the Opal temple and hopefully learn about medicine. In the fall she arrived to Syliras.
Character ConceptSelene is a true Drykas in manners. She is loud, extrovert and fully embraces the gestural side of their language. She believes that when humans are truly involved in their speech movements come naturally to them to enhance their words and that those are the gestures embed in Pavi. To her, movement and body language are a key to express herself. Her laugh is warm and open as a cup of hot wine, if that makes sense.
She is curios and annoyed by how little she knows and how restricted her view on the world is. She doesn't believe in destiny or faith, but rather that people can shape their life story through hard work and knowledge. Blind acceptance its for her inadmissible.
Her curiosity and her motivation to always find the best of two options make up for one of her best trait: strive toward improvement. However, she did inhered the collective culture of her clan, thus it's not herself that she wishes to improve, but the overall life conditional of her race. Although she is extremely concerned with the well-being and life balance within the sea of grass she doesn't really care about how people live on the outside. She believes everyone should do their best locally and, as long as you don't hurt anyone, that should improve the overall global conditions.
This is a result of the harsh conditions of the sea of grass: although she is truly passionate for fellow Drykas, she does not feel empathy or sympathy for other humanoid races. However, she can get to care - by knowing specific individuals.
While curiosity, determination and wittiness (judging by her ability in quickly picking up the fundamentals of new skills), she has some major personal flaws.
First of all, she is very proud. And whilst it is not easy to pierce her pride, since she learned to shield herself from other people's offences, if someone's words or actions manage to make her feel diminished her reaction can be damaging both for her and the person involved. Thus, she can enter stupid bets or entail in dangerous activities to prove a point (even if she is aware the point is wrong). This has put her in real danger in the past.
Another flaw of her is the appeal she feels for gambling. From risking few money to her whole life on the probability of certain outcomes, she is often tempted to take the more risky and rewarding path. This has already brought her problems in the past.
Finally, as a defence mechanism she tends to be aggressive with people who don't like her.
It is important to say that Apogeo is to her more than a brother. He is her confidant and best friend. And although they are different in mannerisms and habits (e.g. she sleeps 5-6 hours, while he likes to rest for longer), their complicity is unique. None of her life decisions has been taken without his approval. She can't even be sure that she has taken them. thinking back she is always left in wondering who, if she of Apogeo, chose to go a certain way or begin a certain adventure.

Apogeo is a Cyphrus Strider of 15th. His mother, Selene, a horse whose herd travelled along the Livingstone family, took care of Selene(human) as if one of her own foals since her birth. Apogeo and Selene grew up as close as brothers and since the death of Apogeo's mother, they have been invariably sharing adventures. Apogeo and Selene have the complicity she never had with her blood brothers.
