8th Bell, Evening

Black over blue, then white, then repeat, then change, blue over white, then black, turn the whole of the yarn over and perform the same from the opposite direction. Pearl was diligent as she worked to weave the yarns with her eyes focused on the pieces she held in her hands. Her fingers moved slowly and in time with the mantra she repeated in her head over and over again so she could weave the pieces of yarn into the pattern her husband chose. The process was tedious, and her fingers were becoming tired and stiff from the positions she had to hold them in for so long during the weaving.

The two of them had bought so many Zibri not so long ago that the entire family had had to resort to weaving the Satalu every evening so they would have enough to place upon their herd, sooner rather than later. At first, the prospect of weaving the Satalu was something she looked forward to. Now it was a tedious task. Of course, she didn’t mind it terribly, it was simply time consuming and, well, no one could call it boring, for it was definitely not boring, as her husband had chosen a pattern that was both beautiful and difficult. That thought brought a smirk to her face and she glanced over at her husband, who was deep in concentration as he was weaving his own pieces of yarn.

Pearl watched him for a moment, the mischief growing within her eyes as she glanced around the fire at the rest of her family, watching each of them for a tick. Belkaia was sitting with Kyanite in her lap while she was patiently teaching him how to weave the yarns into the pattern; her fingers were guiding their son’s as they both worked silently. Just the sight of them caused her smile to soften and the mischief in her eyes to yield momentarily. Yuki sat cross-legged on the other side of the fire holding the Satalu yarn in her fingers and working her own weaving of the pattern. Garrison was cuddled up with her; curled up in her lap and sleeping soundly. Even Raven and Roan were busy weaving.

The embers in the fire pit were crackling; the small popping and hissing sounds mixing with those of the cricket’s rhythmic song of the evening. It was too quiet and there was too much temptation for Pearl to resist; she shoved her elbow at her husband’s arm; the action a little more forceful than just a nudge to get his attention. She meant for it to mess up his weaving, or at the very least interrupt his train of thought and cause him to look away from what he was doing. When he looked at her, his face shadowed by the light from the fire pit, she smiled at him. Those blue eyes full of mischief as that smile turned to a smirk and she elbowed him again, a bit more forceful this time than the last.

Raven, having caught the interaction between husband and wife, and the glint in Pearl’s eye from across the fire, laughed; his booming laughter silencing the crickets. “I think you have a fight on your hands there, my boy!” He managed to say between spurts of laughter just as Pearl slid her foot between Dravite’s and the log they were sitting on and shoved as hard as she could, trying to kick his foot out in front of him.
“Think you can take me?” she teased, making a silly, playful face at her husband with one brow arched; the firelight reflecting in her eyes causing them to sparkle as she issued her challenge.

You Want a Piece of Me?

Dravite sat weaving quietly, contemplating the day’s hunt with Lian and Pearl's father Trail. The fire burned but did not roar, cracked but would not jeer; casting a romantic orange glow across those who gathered to work around it. The horse lord, unlike his wives, struggled with the task of weaving, his burly fingers messing the pattern up more often than not when he missed a thread or couldn't quite pull them as taut as he should. He worked, winding blue over black and white upon that until the Satalu started to take shape, even if it wasn't quite the shape he had intended.

A welcome distraction came in the form of a nudge to his side, one that summoned his attention immediately. Dravite glanced at his wife Pearl and offered the woman a warm smile before going back to his work for a chime. It wasn't long, however, before Pearl nudged him again, this time trying to kick his feet out from under him. He pinned the woman with a look, eyes painted silver in the firelight; she was dressed in simple, white attire with a pair of winter boots to warm her feet. Dravite sat barefoot in a pair of black, leather pants he had worked in all day, shirtless; the black lion's mane tooled into the skin on his back taking pride of place.

"Come here, little bear," he spoke gently and smiled when Garrison moved to join him. Dravite kissed the top of the boy's head through his chocolate curls and pointed to Belkaia, "go and see what your brother has made," he encouraged, helping the boy around the fire pit safely before he returned to his seat on the log, but not without giving Pearl's shoulder a firm shove.

"She is dreaming if she thinks she can take me," the horse lord raised his arms and flex the lean muscles in his upper body.

Kyanite giggled gleefully from the other side of the fire and did the same, flexing his arms with fists balled tightly, white knuckled and proud.

"Besides, she’s just a woman," the watchman teased, knowing this would wind Pearl up enough to take another swing at him, though this one he was ready for and would intercept before taking the woman's hands in an attempt to wrestle her to the ground. Dravite felt his armed strain, perhaps Pearl was stronger than he thought?

Raven and Roan laughed and gave a hearty cheer, while Yuki sat up, calling out for Pearl to show no mercy, and give him what for. Belkaia just shook her head, mildly amused, though anyone happy to put Dravite in his place always put a little grin on her face, "go Pearl!" She finally called, echoed by Garrison.

The shove Dravite gave her shoulder was little more than playful, and she knew it. She quite possibly had bitten off more than she could chew, so to speak, with her little antagonizing game of poke the bear. But frustration had set in and was mixed with a healthy dose of mischief this evening, and could not be ignored. Barely recognizing his shove, she kept herself upright on the log, though the effort cost her requiring her to tighten her abdominal muscles quickly, a small grunt was hidden quickly behind a hum and a loving smile which she offered her husband.

The half woven Satalu was abandoned on the log next to her for when her husband struck his pose, she was mimicking him behind his back. When he turned around, she was looking up at him like nothing was out of the ordinary; nothing except the chesire grin that was upon her face.

“Delicate woman, isn’t that what I heard the other night?” came her playful retort as she did indeed take that next swing at him in the form of a shove at his own shoulder. When he caught her by the hands, she went easily to the ground for she had no intention of trying to outrun him in this little game she had started. No, she fully intended to use her leg muscles, which were stronger than her arms to her advantage. She went to her back at the first opportunity, that calculating smile looking up to him with a glint in her eyes that he would surely recognize. He’d seen it often enough whenever he’d laid her on her back.

She wedged her knee up between them, pulling it as close up to her shoulder as she could manage before she had her foot in place at the softest part of his belly and gave a mighty shove, which she hoped would at least send him sideways and off balance while she pushed as hard as she could with her forearms up at his chest, the strain of it all causing her smile to fade just a smidgeon. Her husband was not a man to be taken for granted, she’d known that well enough before as she was well accustomed to his strength; still that knowledge hadn’t stopped her. She only hoped that by morning that she was not the only one sporting a few more colourful spots of bruising.

Yuki called out, “Get him, Pearl!” But the words were nearly drowned out by Raven’s booming laughter.
“Sign her up for The Watch,” interjected Roan before he gave a whooping holler.
“Look at the delicate little doctor go!” added in Belkaia, having picked up on the word Pearl spurted out earlier in retort to the man they both called husband.
Both boys were clapping and chanting, “Da! Da! Da! Da!”
Though Garrison wasn’t certain what exactly was going on, he was happy to be clapping with his brother as he crawled himself back into Yuki’s lap. “Go Momma!” Yuki encouraged the youngest Blackwater boy and helped him hold his hands up in the air. “Go Momma!” Garrison echoed with a grin.

A knowing smirk manipulated his mouth as the two spoke with their eyes in that secret language only lovers knew. Delicate, Pearl had said and instantly the man recalled his conversation with Lian Windrunner, one he had hoped Pearl and Belkaia hadn’t overheard; busted, he thought with a laugh, struggling to get a good hold on Pearl, who slipped her legs between them before he could throw his weight (and thus his advantage), down on top of her.

Pearl launched the man aside, causing him to roll onto his back as the rest of the family cheered; at least his boys were loyal. Dravite felt a few wood chips bite at his back and quickly rolled out of the way of Pearl’s advances, getting to his knees to meet her head on with open hands and splayed fingers. His smile said bring it on, while his eyes told otherwise, promising all kinds of payback he dare not speak.

The horse lord made a grade for his wife’s hands, quickly trying to bring them under control behind the woman’s back; if his strength would allow him to gain the advantage in this particular wrestling match. Pearl was more likely to strike him with her knee than to give in so easily and when he got her close, he kissed her hot on the mouth and grinned like a triumphant teen, “What did I tell you?” The watchman teased, sounding as if he had needed to exert more effort than he liked, “no match for me.”

Pearl met him with a fiery, defiant look; one that said she wasn’t about to give up yet. Dravite tried to position himself so that this time when he put her on her back, he would be able to trap her between his legs so that she couldn’t raise hers to push him off again, but his leather wear was restrictive, and her struggling didn’t make it very easy. Suddenly Kyanite ran around the log to jump on Pearl’s back, crossing his arms around her neck as he gave his little war-cry and tried to thread his bony little legs about her middle.
“Oh no, it’s a thieving little pirate from across the sea!” Raven announced, “look out Pearl!”
“He’s come to steal all our Zibri,” Dravite chimed.
“And all your pretty wives!” Belkaia laughed.

Dravite untangled the little monkey from his wife and wrestled Kyanite to the ground before tickling the boy’s sides until he was laughing so hard it looked like he might cry, “no, nooo!” Kyanite screamed between bouts of laughter.
“That’s my wife you pirate thief!” Dravite grinned and gave the boy a breather before lifting him up by the ankles so that he hung upside down like one of the cave-bats, “quick Pearl, I think I see a spot I forgot to tickle,” the watchman laughed.
Behind them, the rest of the family was in stitches and it wasn’t long before Garrison showed up to help his brother, “release the hounds!” Roan called as Dravite was attacked from behind by the little boy.
“The pirate king has reinforcements!” Dravite threated playfully and set Kyanite down gently to offer Garrison a bit of the same treatment, giving his sides a little tickle until he giggled and ran away to the safety of Belkaia’s arms; not quite understanding the game but enjoying it all the same.

No one was as shocked as Pearl when her husband was launched to the side of her with that hefty push of her legs. She knew the advantage wouldn’t last long and she rolled onto her side, trying her best to get up on her knee and get to Dravite before he recovered fully and came back at her, but she was met with that bring it on smile of his and those unspoken promises that sent a chill of anticipation up her spine.

As he made his grab for her hands she tried to evade him with a side step, but wasn’t quick enough. All too quickly he had both of her hands in his once again as was trying to shove her arms behind her back to get better control of her. Each time she brought her knee up he blocked it with his thigh, as if expecting her plan of attack. Only his kiss stilled her efforts. She began to yield, her arms not fighting the hold he had on her hands behind her back, though it was an attempt to make him think he had the full advantage. It was a small comfort to her that when he spoke, he sounded just a touch winded from his own efforts. Pearl took advantage of having him so close and whispered something in his ear before taking a quick nip at the tender flesh.

That firey, defiant look was accompanied by a quick jerk of her right arm as she tried to free her hand from his grasp, to no avail. His larger, work-warn hands held their firm grip upon her smaller ones. A fact that she both despised and desired, at the same time. They met the ground once again, rolling as each tried to gain the advantage, he a heavy weight atop her, she a squirming mass of limbs that refused to be contained. Just as she thought she might actually escape his clutches, she felt the small weight slam into her back and little arms clinging to her neck.

She went still beneath the weight of their son, so as not to hurt him on accident, one arm, as soon as Dravite released his hold on her hands, went up to hold Kyanite against her lest he slip and fall. She was laughing now, unable to even respond to the banter of the rest of the family. When Dravite had the little man by his ankles, she was still on her knees, looking the young boy eye to eye. She made a silly little face at him, wagging her brow up and down, making a little rat mouth and showing her teeth at him like she was going to eat him all up, and was moving her fingers in pinching motion beside her eyes as she moved in closer and closer before taking the squirming boy’s face in her hands and smothering him with kisses before she moving quickly to his belly and blowing a resounding raspberry upon his soft little tummy. All of which brought on squeal of giggles from Kyanite.

When Garrison showed up to tackle his father, she sat back on her heels, watching him bolt for his Ma as soon as he was free. Kyanite was wound up now it seemed and he took off whooping and hollering around the fire pit in some sort of a hopping and skipping dance before he was scooped up by Raven and tousled around and then settled to the older man’s shoulders like a sack of grain.

She reached up for her husband’s hand and gave it a gentle tug as she looked up at him. Those eyes spoke to him of her love and contentment, conveying the message easier than any words possibly could.
